Levi Huxton Great question. I would love to read Michael Chabon 'covering' one of the Alexandre Dumas adventure novels I grew up with, but as queer capers... maybe The Three Musketeers or The Count of Monte-Cristo.
Levi Huxton I start with a sexual fantasy. However uninspired I might be, sexual fantasies rarely dry up. This guarantees I'm starting from a very personal place - never a bad place to write from - and that I have conflict (or at least some kind of power dynamic). I then layer onto the scene some context, a sense of place or time, character backstories and motivations. Once I've got that, I might delete the sex altogether, but with any luck I'm left with a seedling from which a story can grow.
Levi Huxton You can take your real life mistakes, humiliations and injustices and write better outcomes. In the very act of writing lies the potential to learn, heal and improve.
Levi Huxton I'm just starting on my writing journey, but I recently received good advice which I'm commited to following. Just because you can now self-publish at the click of a button doesn't mean you should stop short of giving it everything you've got. Your readers deserve nothing less.
Levi Huxton I'd travel to fair Verona, where Shakespeare lay our scene, and rewrite his timeless (and influential) romantic tragedy as Romeo & Julius. Travesty! Yes, but just imagine how it might change the course of literature and history...
