Imadoki!: Nowadays, Vol. 3

Rate this book
Imadoki! (Nowadays) follows the trials and tribulations of a budding horticulturist as she makes her way down the winding road to friendship. From Yuu Watase, one of Japan's most beloved shoc;jo artists, Imadoki! packs comedic charm and heartfelt antics into an adorable bouquet of whimsical fantasy. Every club needs to take a field trip, and Tanpopo's Gardening Committee is no exception. Koki gets a tip that his elusive older brother may be living incognito in Hokkaido, so the rest of the group packs their bags and heads north with him. Tanpopo is doubly pleased because this extracurricular excursion affords her the rare opportunity to visit her former home, a very different place to the hustle and bustle of big city life. Later, when Koki's betrothed, Erika, shows up as a new transfer student, it'll take more than flowers to soothe the situation at Meio Academy.

Imadoki!: Nowadays, Vol. 3 is the most dramatic of the bunch (so far). There will be heartbreak, there will be turmoil, and there will be blood *clap of thunder* (I'm just kidding about the last part, it is both light hearted and a tad melancholic at parts, but not gorey).

This volume kicks off with Chapter:1-6.

The story is now starting to get some twists and turns in it, and the love triangle is one of the few that I can forgive. Seriously Tanpopo is a rocking character because she stands up for her friends, and doesn't give up on them after she brings them into her circle. It was awesome that she knocked the $h1t out of the philandering student council president!
Also I love her crinkely old grandpa, he's just adorable.

I'll write more when editing mode hits me.
Have fun reading!

While I didn't like some of the characters at first, you sort of get used to them and they kind of grow on you. And wow that was quite the uh oh moment at the end. And kind of sad, especially for Tanpopo.

Zum Inhalt:
Mit Yuu Watase auf die Schulbank
Unsere Heldin hei? Tanpopo, was auf Japanisch L?wenzahn bedeutet.

In this volume they finally track down Koki's errant brother and bring him home.Tanpopo thinks that this will put an end to Koki and Erika's engagement but is devastated when Erica decides she prefers Koki and wants to stay engaged to him. Erica not only joins the school but the planting club as well and hangs on to Koki like a leech. The main body of this volume deals with the rose exchange event - you give a red rose to the one you love and get either a white rose (your love is reciprocated) or a yellow one (for rejection) in response. Erika challenges Tampopo and suggests they both give a red rose to Koki and whoever loses has to back off from him AND quit the planting club....

Great characters, wonderful art and touching emotion. Yuu Watase proves yet again why she is one of the best shojo manga creators out there.

In this edition of cute, expressive art which sometimes makes me laugh, but is buried in cliches, well, it's more of the same. This time, there's a summer trip and a festival involved, because it's legally required of shojo manga and Yuu Watase didn't want to be arrested.

This volume felt a bit more serious to me, probably because of all the drama with Koki's family and fiancee situation. There was still some goofiness and wonderful expressions, but not as much as previously.

Again, this is not a game changing volume -- if you liked the previous ones, this isn't going to be different, and if you didn't like them, then this one isn't going to turn it around for you.

How does Yuu Watase fit so much into her books?!? There are no fillers! It¡¯s nice but sometimes, I feel like the pacing is too quick!

Anyway in this volume, they find Koki¡¯s brother, but Erika still wants Koki. She even transfers school for Koki. Which leads to me question why his older brother was set to marry a teenager????

Anyway, I don¡¯t care for Erika. After they find Koki¡¯s brother, she asks about what will happen to her? She was promised to marry a Kugyo. It¡¯s been her dream.
YOUR DREAM?! Who dreams about arranged marriage at 16? Bleh. Get a life, chick.

THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH! Omg like aoidhsfaosdhfoahsdf. I feel bad for the fiance tbh... like she's not gonna end up with Koki just saying. As for Tanpop she's basically set. Like the author can 'pretend' that they're not gonna be a thing but like... come on, actually, they are. I also noticed this series only has 5 volumes. Meaning, that legit it's gonna end so soon. I'm not one for endings so just watch as I don't touch this series for like a year. Ya... BUT THE ENDING THO

I¡¯m so pleasantly surprised with just how much I enjoyed this volume. Watase¡¯s humor is some of my favorite in all of the manga I¡¯ve read over the past 10+ years, and it was so wicked and crude and hilarious this volume at such random moments. She balances drama and comedy really well (like with the teen pregnancy subplot) Her work is so nostalgic for me!! I really, really enjoyed this volume. What a silly little cliffhanger though, lol.

The romantic entanglements are fairly predictable. In the first and second volumes I thought the secondary characters were intense and dramatic, but they've rounded out more and I enjoy their interactions with Tanpopo and one another. Koki is slowly becoming a more complex character, although he's still mostly just the "hot guy."

I enjoy this cheesy stuff so much. This is all I needed now. Friendship, the wanting and longing. Okay, it has a triangle but not cheating so I'm okay with this. Also, Rose exchange!! This is getting so dramatic. I love it. And that cliffhanger, so bad.

Koki receives news of his elder brother that has been missing for two years, leaving all his troubles and responsibilities on Koki during that time, including his frail fiancee, Erika. But according to Koki's sources, Yoji, his brother, has been spotted in Tanpopo's hometown of Hokkaido! Koki is immediately ready to go and on his way with Tanpopo right behind him, and the entire Planting Club behind her. Even though they find Yoji and take him back home, that doesn't take any of the heat off of Koki, especially when Erika says she wants to stay betrothed to Koki, not Yoji! But to make matters worse for both Koki and Tanpopo, Erika transfers to their school and challenges Tanpopo. The Planting Club is holding an event where you give your crush a red rose and they will give you either a white or yellow rose as an answer, the colors matching the exact meaning of the flowers in real life. Erika proposes to Tanpopo that both of them should give him their red rose, and whomever he gives a yellow rose to, thus denying them, that person must quit the Planting Club and never speak to Koki again. But when Erika plays dirty, it'll take a lot more than jars and flower petals to win this game!

Ooh! Erika is the worst! She acts all sweet and frail but she is really a conniving little greedy brat! Ah, but I love that idea with the roses. It really made me want to buy or grow some and 'mm, I can smell them. <3 Their silk-like petals, their fragrance that makes you think of candlelit nights in the coziest of homes with your lover, or a garden rich with love, or even a rose water bath. Ahh, I want roses now. Q.Q Somebody- buy me roses! Please?! <3
And on a different note, I suppose Uchimura isn't so bad. I guess she's kind of just a character that one must give time to grow on ya'. And she really does look better without all that makeup, oh my God. ._.
P.S. YOJI MAKES MY HEART GO DOKI DOKI. <3 AAHHH, I LOVE HIIMMMM~ <3 <3 <3 !!!!

The third volume of Imadoki! introduces Yoji, Koki's no-longer-missing older brother, Erika transfers to Meio, and the planting club hosts a rose exchange event - Tanpopo and Erika agree that whoever receives the yellow rose of rejection from Koki must quit the club.

I'm not sure Koki needed an older brother for this story to be effective; the conflict with Erika is poignant regardless of whose fiancee she originally was. Koki would still have the option to choose between his familial obligations and his own feelings. Yoji, so far, has been too coincidental - he happens to be near Tanpopo's hometown. He happens to show up at just the right moment during the rose festival. He happens to look a whole lot like Koki. The more coincidences that pop up, the harder his character is to believe.

That aside, I like the complications given to Arisa's character; she has evolved far beyond the "screw off" mentality she had in the previous volume. Erika could use a little further development; I can't tell if she actually loves Koki, or if this is a game to her.

The plot flows nicely and story line moves at a good pace - it reads neither too fast nor too slow. The artwork is beautiful and I especially love this cover.
