About the author

本名倪聪，笔名有卫斯理、沙翁、魏力等等。1935年生，上海浙江寧波镇海人，学问皆靠自修而来。1957年偷渡香港，抵港初期白天在工厂工作，晚上进修，后来投稿到《真报》和《工商日报》，不但被採用，还获《真报》聘用，先后出任校对、助理编辑、记者和政论专栏作家，就此走上文学创作之路。他的第一篇小说《活埋》是描写中共的土改故事。翌年倪匡开始创作武侠小说，早期作品包括女黑侠木兰花、浪子高达的故事、神仙手高飞的故事以及六指琴魔等。
在金庸的鼓励下，1962年开始用笔名「卫斯理」写科幻小说。第一篇小说名為《钻石花》，在《明报》副刊连载，从此开始他的写作生涯。而后出版的《卫斯理》系列小说达140多本，其后还有《原振侠系列》、《浪子高达系列》等等系列。1960年代末，香港武侠影片兴起，倪匡转而从事剧本创作。十多年间，如同他的文学创作一般多产，所写剧本不下数百部，代表作有张彻导演的《独臂刀》。1992年移居美国旧金山。
倪匡写作范围极广，包括武侠、科幻、奇情、侦探、神怪、推理、文艺等皆有涉猎，自进入文坛以来，迄今写了叁十年，一个星期写足七天，每天写数万字，自称是全世界写汉字最多的人。最令人称奇的，是他可以写叁十年而灵感不断、题材不尽，且是畅销的保证。出版界流传一个笑话：即使倪匡写的是无字天书，也会迅速售清。
倪匡不懂驾驶，但迷上了研究汽车时，曾经独个儿把一部汽车化整為零后再装嵌為原状。他又花上几年收集及钻研贝壳，虽然最后意兴阑珊把心爱的收藏卖掉，但他对贝壳的认识已达专家境界。
倪匡的广泛兴趣、过目不忘的本领，以及鍥而不捨的研究精神，使他所写的各类作品深入人心。尤其他的科幻小说已成当代经典，结构严谨，驰情入幻，又带啟发性，常使人有意想不到的收穫。

This is indeed a great book if you are looking for some thrills . The author successfully mixed reality with fantasy together and mixed in some science . The book was really interesting and I was truly surprised by the ending . The only reason I didn't give this book a five star is because the thrill part wasn't really there , which was rather disappointing . It somehow turned in to action than mystery when he jumped off the building , which is what made this book worse .

我覺得這一本書是我一直以來看過最好看的科幻書,因為這本書的主題與我所居住的環境很貼切,香港的高樓大厦都有升降機,而這本書的內容正是與高樓大厦的升降機有關,書中內容是說大厦內的升降機把乘客送到異空間,再把人們困在裡面......這書不但很貼切,還非常生動,所以我一定會繼續閱讀這系列的書。

A re-read from many years ago....the idea is really frightening, esp. when that happened some months ago in this city, but of course, that did not "penetrate" the top of the building!

Interesting story but some questions left unanswered.
I think the ending could have been a lot better and he could have played with the time difference aspect a lot more but he didn't hence the 3 stars.
