Different and I really liked it

I haven't read a book like this one in a while and it was refreshing. The characters were well built and the storyline was definitely strong and well paced. I look forward to reading the rest of this series

I was given this book for free as part of a Blog Tour through Crossroads Reviews. This has in no way influenced my review.
Blurb from Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ:

First I’d like to address the cover of this book. I have to say that it does not draw me in. I feel like it’s missing a bit of something. And seeing as I really liked the storyline, I really think that a better cover would draw more readers to pick this book up and read it.

I really loved the main character, Jaden Beckett, in this book, at least for the first half. She’s witty and funny. She’s strong willed and snarky. I have to say that I did not find her personality to be that of a 17 year old girl. She came off as much older to me. And, while I know she has had to grow up more quickly in the last year since her mother died. I just didn’t get the feeling that she could have become so mature in just that year. Perhaps I missed something. And she is very easy to forgive, especially Ryder, which kind of surprised me seeing as he did do a terrible thing to her at the beginning of the book. She came across as somewhat unbelievable which made it hard to connect with her.
Ryder, well, he’s sexy, honest, loving, caring, fierce, strong, and a totally “swoonable book boyfriend. I was overwhelmed by his complete and utter attraction to Jaden. He gave himself over so easily to her, and so quickly. I was fairly untrusting of him for most of the book because of this. It just really bothered me. Even though he tells her that he’s known he’s loved her since they were kids, I just could not wrap my mind around it. He was also hard to connect with. I almost felt that although he loved her so much, he was still distant in a way. I didn’t feel the connection between them as much as I would have liked.
Ralston is by far one of my favorite characters in this book. I love his “professor attitude. He’s also quite cryptic, which lends to his mystery for sure. I wasn’t sure if I could trust him or not. I didn’t know if he was on Jaden’s side or the side of the IUGA.
The supporting characters are a nice touch to the story. Drew is an awesome brother. I would totally want him in my family. Jaden’s dad is also easy and understanding. Her mom is strong, but you see a softer side of her when it comes to Jaden. And I can see how some of the characters will definitely be assets to Jaden in the future: Maria, Christine, Andrew, and many others.
I love the plot line and idea of this book. Science fiction with a bit of what I might call fantasy. It’s an interesting concept, having the same person in different realities. And being able to transcend those time lines and barriers to actually get to those other places, so interesting and fun. And the world building is so awesome. I love the alternate universe the author creates on earth. The idea of living in a dome, of earth’s atmosphere actually being toxic to us is something that really isn’t that far off from what could be a reality in our world. And the author employs so many “green ideas, it made me happy to see this in a book. I especially loved the hydroponics. The description totally reminded me of Epcot’s ride “Living with the Land and since I’m a Disney freak, well, there you go!
I really enjoyed the author’s writing in this book. It was easy to read and flowed very well. The dialogue between the characters was believable.
All in all I really enjoyed this book. I found that the beginning really took off with a bang, but then the book kind of slowed down as the author did her world building and built her character relationships. I kind of wish she would have had a few more action scenes or scenes that caused me to be a little more on my toes. I didn’t really feel this until the end of the book.
3 stars from me!

I received this book as a free gift from the author for an honest review.

I just finished the book last night and couldn't sleep because I kept thinking about it! This is a hidden gem of a novel and I absolutely loved it.

What I loved: I really liked the protagonist Jade, who was strong and knew what she wanted. I loved the Skorplings, I could totally picture them in my head and wish I had one as a pet/friend! I was mesmerized by the worlds that Ms. Savage created- the domes and the politics between them were fascinating. And she does have a way with words when it comes to food and clothing and scenery. My mouth was watering in several places and I had to go grab something to munch on. I also wanted to possess the dress made of crystals for my own! One of my favorite characters was Ralston, so I was excited to see he will be back for the next installment. The whole idea of Transcenders and if they do or don't mess with the fabric/track of time is really interesting and I hope we'll get a lot more into that in the next book. I loved the idea of parallel worlds and being able to travel to other ones. The one thing that I wonder will ever be dealt with is... what about the other Jade? What happened to her? and why is it that she can go back to her time without anyone noticing whereas, the hints in the cliffhanger suggest that she has been missed in Dominica.

Small comment of what I didn't like, which obviously did not detract from the stars given above... Savage does have a habit of inserting "dude" or mentioning "Brad Pitt" etc. when she wants Jade to have a faux pas. I think if she just talks naturally without those phrases, it is quite clear she talks differently from the other characters.

I hope everyone gets to take a look at this book. Ms. Savage has an amazing imagination and put it together really well in this first installment. I look forward to reading the next book and will look out for it!

Wow, this was truly an amazing story. At first when Christina recommended to me, I thought, "not my cup of tea!" The more and more I read, I started to feel how Jaden felt. The aww of a new realm, being able to see a loved one after losing them in another time, and getting to finally experience true love. I fell in love with Ryder and how he was so dedicated to his people, and fought for what needed to be done to save them. I would recommend this book to anyone, it was a great read, and now I can't wait to read the next installment.

Jaden the heroine transports you to a parallel world that is clever and well-crafted. Part love story, part adventure-ALL fun. My world stopped for the two days it took me to read this story.

4.5/5 stars

Something about Vicky Savage's writing is so engrossing and wonderfully detailed. Once I read the first chapter, I was already super intrigued and dying to know more. Jaden is such a strong, kick ass character with a wonderful habit of trying to find out the truth on her own, regardless of what the people around her are saying. I loved seeing Domerica through her eyes, especially with the touching element of her mother added in, and the world building is just phenomenal. Her love interest, Ryder, is not only swoony, but adds such an interesting diverse aspect to the story. His love for his people is so strong, and I seriously ship him and Jaden. It's far too easy to get caught up in their story, and I happily paid the price of several hours of lost sleep to devour more of it.

What took away half a heart for me was the use of Jaden's slang. In Domerica, where she plays the princess, formal language is key. I understand a few slip ups (I would be terrible at speaking only formally), but it seemed at times she wasn't really understanding or acknowledging how important blending in was like Rals stressed to her. It's definitely more in there during the first half than the second, and it in no way stopped me from adoring Jaden and her story, but I did slightly affect the rating. Regardless, Transcender is absolutely a favorite of mine now!

4.5 Hearts!

Fabulous Book!
I simply can't believe I got this one while it was available for free on my kindle. Currently it is only $2.99. Which is totally a bargain when you can be guaranteed a terrific story.

The author,, wields some serious story-telling power. I love the universe she created. I love the adventure and contrasting lands of Domerica and her post-comet-annihilated Earth.

I finished the book, 'turned' the next page and with the next swipe purchased book two, ,(also only $2.99!) and delved into the next three chapters before coming up for air to finish this review.

Transcender is a trilogy and I am already having anxiety that I'll not have access to book three until it's released.

BTW, don't judge these books by their covers just get it and enjoy :)

Note to friends: mild adult language throughout

This book was truly a dream. I thought that it was just going to be a nice YA book that I could talk about with my children but WOW did it capture me. The plot was was predictable except for a few unexpected twists. The characters are wonderfully personable. I was sucked in and couldn't stop reading. A little disappointed that the next book is still in production and I can't read it right away!

Although dystopian is not my favorite genre, this book was AWESOME! It was nonstop action and a new world so intricately created and detailed, I could see it in my mind. This was such an original concept; I couldn’t put it down, keeping me from my own writing. I highly recommend this to EVERYONE!

This is a really interesting mix of romance, sci-fi and fantasy with a touch of dystopia blended in. Jaden is a teen who wakes up after a lighning storm in a situation and a place that she does not recognize. She comes to find out that she has somehow jumped to an alternate, post-apocalyptic version of our earth. There were a lot of flaws in this book for me. Despite that, I enjoyed the storyline enough to want to continue reading to see where the story would lead.

The biggest flaw in this book, in my opinion, is the dreaded Insta-Love. Uggghhh... I really cannot stand it when two characters are immediately in love with one another. Drawn to each other, ok. Some chemistry, ok. In love? No. It just turns me off. This book is all about the insta-love. Jaden initally meets Ryder as her kidnapper. Shortly he sees the error of his ways and tries to make ammends. By their third meeting they are in each other's arms and having an intense make-out session. Ick! Jaden knows nothing about this guy, other than that he's hot, and she's making out with him. Throughout the rest of the story there are declarations of love and such but there is really no evolution of a relationship. They know next to nothing about each other except where the other is from and who their family is. They don't know each other's likes and dislikes or really their personality. I would really liked to have seen a more natural progression of a relationship.

I also didn't really completely "get" Jaden. The book is written in first-person from Jaden's point of view so we read her thoughts and hear the most from her. That she accepts her situation without more worry and thought about mental illness and such seemed a little far-fetched to me. Sometimes she says things that didn't ring true to me. For example, it seemed that she used the word "Dude" more than most teenagers do. At least, teenage girls. There are other examples where she reads older than she is: "I count every heartbeat until I'm with him again." First of all, ick! That is one of the cheesiest lines ever. Second, I don't know any teenage girl who would ever say that line.

There were also a few inconsistencies involving the IUGA - the Agency that governs those who travel between universes. In the first chapter we learn that Ralston is being assigned to help Jaden get back to her correct universe. He explains to Jaden that there are thousands of universes because there are thousands of possible ways events could occur. It bugged me that Ralston seemed totally familiar with both Jaden's earth and Ryder's earth despite the amazing differences in technology, society, customs, etc. Is there some way that IUGA agents are briefed on the home universe of their charge? Do they just know because they travel to them? How could each agent know that much about each universe if they can be so drastically different? Also, this alternate universe is only in existence because the IUGA stepped in and saved a part of the population during the apocalyptic event. If the IUGA is supposed to prevent interference, why would they themselves interfere in such a huge way? It's not a huge problem with the book but it was this little niggling thing that bothered me throughout. I would really love to learn more about the IUGA and I suspect we will as the series continues.

So, if I'm being so harsh with this review, why the heck am I giving it 3 stars instead of 1 or 2? Because despite the insta-love, despite my problems with the main character, despite the inconsistencies in regards to the IUGA, I really loved the plot! This is an original take on the idea of parallel universes. I loved the world-building. The society is original and intriguing. There are three domes over parts of the earth where most of the world's population live. They are each ruled by a monarch and their societies resemble medieval kingdoms with the exception of some more modern technologies and energy sources. I found this intriguing and loved reading about the world.

Besides the love story, the main plot involves Jaden trying pass herself off as a princess, trying to convince her mother to save the Unicoi - a race of people living underground outside of the dome who are being slowly decimated by underground uranium deposits, and clearing the Unicoi people of accusations made against them. The pacing is great, the book is exciting and the plot builds to a great conclusion. A lot of questions are left unanswered but are set up well for the next book in the series.

Overall, despite quite a bit of eye-rolling, I really enjoyed the book. Those who don't mind the insta-love aspect will probably really love this book a lot. The romance is pretty innocent but is a large part of the storyline and fans of romance will enjoy this even more than I did, I'm sure. Fans of light sci-fi and fantasy may also want to pick this one up. It's original and entertaining.

I'll have a review of the second book in the series in January so stay tuned!

Note: I received a copy of this book for free from the author through Crossroads Reviews and Tours in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Review posted here.

I've been very cautious about what I'm reading this summer because 1. I've been burned by some books, even those that have been recommended by friends, and 2. with my limited reading time, I want to be reading books I love, not books I feel obligated to read. I am so glad Christina approached me to be part of the Transcender: First Timer tour because this book was a lot of fun! Transcender is a really unique read. Jumping genres is certainly an increasing trend, and I really like the way Vicky managed to merge historical, contemporary, action/adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, and romantic elements into this story without it feeling choppy or forced. I think fans of any genre will find something they enjoy in Transcender, but please understand that Ryder's abs are something you will have to enjoy from a distance because DIBS. :P

I really like that this book is primarily about Jaden finding and asserting herself. She starts off as a kind of follower, doing what Ralston or her mother want her to, but eventually she learns to stand up for herself or for the right thing, no matter how much opposition she faces. Jaden's adventures in the alt-universe of Domerica might be a work of science fiction, but her struggles to trust herself is one that many readers will identify with. Add in a healthy dose of Parental Drama and horrible first dates with douche-tastic boys, and you will totally find yourself empathizing with Jaden's plight, even if you can't jump to other dimensions including worlds in which you may be a crown princess. Also, I think it's pretty fantastic that Jaden doesn't wait around for the men in her life to rescue her; she rescues herself! Add in the fact that Jaden is willing to rescue THEM when they need it, and I'm loving our outspoken sassy mc.

I also really like the way Vicky portrays different kinds of relationships in Transcender. Jaden and Drew, Jaden and her mom, her dad, Ryder and his friends and family.... There are so many different family situations represented in the book and all are depicted in their own unique way. Ryder and Jaden do have a bit of an insta-love connection going on, but it is explained in certain terms that make me okay with that in addition to the fact that I've recently changed my views on the whole insta-love tihng. Also, I am intrigued to read Streaming Stars and Illuminosity to see how this relationship grows and changes throughout the series as a whole. Jaden's relationship with her mom is probably the most complex in the book, and I like how Vicky really explores and delves into it in each of their interactions. Even though these two characters are queen and princess, they still have normal mother-daughter moments that are very realistic and relatable.

A couple things that I was less happy with were the pacing, which seemed incredibly fast sometimes but a little too slow at others. I would have liked some of the primary action at the end of the book to have happened earlier to build up the conflict over a larger portion of the book rather than having the conflict happen directly before the resolution. I think this happens because of the considerable amount of world-building that needed to be done as well as introduction of some series-long conflicts so I do understand, but my personal preference would have been a smoother, more uniform pace. Secondly, even though I do love the inclusion of so many different genres, sometimes I felt like the historical elements stilted the dialogue a bit too much. Jaden, in all her current-ness, obviously speaks like someone who lives in 2014 USofA. Everybody else is obviously a bit more formal as the societies of Domerica and Unicoi, the entire world in fact, is completely different. Still, I found the drastic changes a bit too distracting. Like with the pacing, I would have liked the vocabulary of the dialogue to be more moderate.

Overall, I found Transcender: First Timer to be engaging and intruiging. I've only read book one, and even with a couple minor technical complaints, I can't wait to read the other books in the trilogy. I think Jaden and her story contain qualities that any reader will find relatable and thus enjoyable. Also, ALSO, Ryder's abs, but again I say dibs!

Because this review is going up so late, I'm going to just leave my thoughts as bullet points. I do have to warn you that a lot of it, particularly when I talk about what I liked about the book, are vague because I can't put into words exactly how I feel and/or why I feel the way I do.

--There was a lot of great world building throughout the book, with lush descriptions and great insight into the government and societal structure

--However, particularly at the beginning, there seemed to be a lot of info dumping. While I can understand it to a certain extent because it's being dumped onto Jaden herself, for me, it got to be too much too quickly. Perhaps that's the exact intent, but it didn't make it any easier to deal with. Not the worst issue in the world, but!

--I love the characters! They are unique, and I particularly love the character interactions.

--At times, however, I felt that someone was acting out of character. I'm not sure if that's because I felt that some characters seemed to always be changing, not really having one steady personality, or for some other reason.

--Stemming off, there are some really great complex, in depth relationships and ideas (about the government, morality, responsibility, international relations/diplomacy, politics, and more)--it helps bridge the large gap between our world and their world, making it more real, more understandable, and more relatable

--The concept is well thought out and pretty well executed. While Savage's writing isn't my favorite, it's not bad either.

--Oftentimes, Jaden seemed to oscillate between two extremes--hating her new life and loving her new life. Again, while I can understand it, the change was often sudden and without a clear cause, making it confusing for me as a reader

--I'm confused as to why other characters don't do something more than perhaps point out the fact that sometimes she'll slip up and say something wayyyy too modern. It's like they question it but easily accept her (lame) excuses. I can understand getting away with it once or twice, but afterwards, isn't it really obvious?

--I do like Jaden and Ryder's relationship, but at the same time, I felt iffy about it since the start. It was obvious it was going to happen (maybe a little too obvious?), but it felt so sudden at the beginning. And then, I felt that a large part of their relationship was on the basis of their ermm...let's say "connection" so it's not spoiler-y.

--It's a really engaging story, but I often felt like I could only read it in chunks, having to put down the book every 30 or so pages. I'm not entirely sure why because I'm really interested in the story and the plot and everything

--Overall, the book really made me think about our lives, our responsibilities, our morality, how we react to problems, etc. I find this exploration and insight really interesting and very thought-provoking.

--I really enjoyed the book, even if I can't completely explain exactly what I loved about. Something about the story and the characters just drew me in. I'd recommend it!

I received this book for free to read and review by the author.

Transcender: First-timer is about 17-year old Jaden Beckett, who lives with her brother and her father ever since her mother died. On a stormy night, she is accidentally transported to Domerica - a country under a dome in a parallel universe. Jaden finds herself trust into the life of Princess Jaden and into the unfamiliar world politics on a dying planet.

Transcender was a surprising read for me. I applied to read it as a R&R and immediately received a copy from the author. I had never heard about the author or the book before, so I didn't know what to expect. From the looks of the cover and the short description it looked like a sci-fi novel, but it actually was more like a dystopian adventure/love story.
The strongest point of the book is definetely the world-building. I found the parallel universe to be believable and strikingly real. I found the idea of a multi-universal corporation controlling universe-travels and trying to control the destiny of the differents earth very interesting.
The book was mostly action-packed and interesting, but it was still the author's first book and there were a few scenes that were simply unnessecary. The character of General LeGare, for example, was mentioned all the time, but he never actually said anything throughout the book. This way, I never really managed to grasp what his motives are and what he means to the story.
And there was the aspect of the love story between Jaden and Ryder. It was cute and nice, but their romance wasn't believable. They didn't really have any reason to like each other apart from the inexplainable pull they felt toward each other. Problem about the "pull": it was literally unexplainable. Seriously, isn't there any reason at all in the world to love someone apart from it being simply "meant to be"? I think there is. And since Transcender is a trilogy, the author should have given the romance between the two main characters more time and space.

With that said, I would give this book 3.5 stars. Since you can't give half-star ratings on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, I'll give Transcender 4 stars. I really enjoyed Transcender and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of the series.

What an amazing story, captivating your mind as you learn about Jaden and her travels to a alternate world. Thrilling adventure filled with mystery and danger as she tag along and discover who she really is. A strong willed, determined young woman that is not afraid to face the problems head on as they unfolds in her life.
Meeting the most spectacular young man Ryder Blackthorn. I was extremely impressed with this young and fierce chieftain who rocked her world. He is everything a true hero is suppose to be. Strong, decisive, brave, good leader, not afraid to show his feelings towards her, accomplished, and compassionate. If I had another daughter he would be the perfect candidate. smile
From beginning to the end I was fascinated with the plot and how the words simply flow from the pages that it became a easy read, although lengthy. You hardly notice it because it just holds your attention.
Each character were fully developed to play his/her role to perfect the story. From the lowliest servant to the villain.
The blooming romance between Jaden and Ryder centers the story and the plot to be a perfect entirety that I can recommend to all lovers of YA and Sci-Fi stories. I believe all ages can enjoy this book to the fullest.
Taken to another world where life as Jaden knows it are different in all aspects and she learns to become a intricate part of that world while doing her best to safe those she loves. Her determined actions saved a few people but always stayed humble at her skills. No typical youth arrogance was displayed through out the story her willingness to learn and adapt and making the most of what she has, the forefront of the plot.
My heart was touched at the end as the two lovers were separated and life had to continue without Ryder in her life. Feeling the loss of that separation as Jaden struggles to get back to "normality"
But do not fear my good readers the story does not end there. Well I hope not.

A enjoyable adventurous read, looking forward to read Book 2 in the series.
Well done Vicky Savage.

This one is a tough one for me to review. It took a long time for me to read it. I'm not sure it was the books fault or that I was reading other books at the same time which I don't usually do. Anyway, I did enjoy the story. The world building was done exceptionally well and I could visualize it in my mind. Everything was in place. The story idea itself was excellent and at first I couldn't put the book down. Then somewhere in the middle I got a little bored and would only read a short snippet at a time. I don't think it was the writing, this was very good, but I think the story just dragged a bit in the middle so I got bored. I tend to like fast pased edge of your seat type books. The ending picked up and again I couldn't put it down. absoutlely loved the ending including the cliffhanger, which again is something I don't usually like. I prefer my stories to be independant of the sequel, but this one was very well done.

The only thing that I didn't like which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of five is that the main character was a little off. She didn't speak or act like a 17 year old girl most of the time. She seemed so grown up. This isn't a bad thing, but I would have expected more teenage angst and drama for someone so young thrust into that situation, (****spoiler alert****)especially when thrust with the idea of marriage at that age. I get the whole soul mate thing but what 17 year old from our world would be even thinking about that? Even if she says she is going to wait for a while before actually doing it.

This is one of those books I wanted to love more than I actually did.

On the one hand, as far as indies go, this is pretty well done. It could use a little more polish (especially with the names - oy, those are almost cringe worthy - even the title could use some tweaking) but it's certainly nothing book breaking like can occur in indie books.

On the other hand, the author takes a fantastic idea - one person jumping universes and taking over the life of the your self in that universe - and then doesn't really do anything interesting with it. She jumps into a dystopian society where she's a princess and her mom does vaguely evil things and makes people marry at 20 or never marry (seriously, what is with that trope in YA?) while her literal soulmate (like it actually shocks them to touch) lives in a society of democracy and choice and All Things That Are Good and it's all be done before.

I can see a 15 or 16 year old girl having a blast with this book (Jaden is a blank enough slate + this book is told in first person making it easy to insert yourself into her shoes) and just enjoying it for what it is.

Me though, as much as I wanted to keep going, I just couldn't. I set the book down like last Thursday with every intention of picking it back up again over the weekend to try and keep reading it. And I just couldn't bring myself to do it. For me, that's the hallmark of a book that's just not for me.

This is an amazingly well done book. It is probably one of the only books I've read that fluidly mixes several genre's together and still delivers one heck of a story. This review is more of a 4.5 star, but I couldn't give it a 4, so it gets a 5.

I cannot wait to pick up the next book and see where it goes. I adored all the characters in this book and the hero (Ryder) was unbelievably fascinating. The world building was fantastic and I loved the explanations for the power sources and the domes but still utilizing actual events that occur on earth. I loved the mix of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Dystopian/Apocalypse genres that were occurring.

The only thing I wish, is that we got a bit more development to the love story. This story uses the soul mate theory to bind the main characters. There is a pull between them. You don't really see the tension as they fall in love or the development of that love. It is more described through the soul mate theory.

That is the only negative I had about this book and it is a very very small one.

This book.
Is amazing.

I'm not sure where it came from, I saw it on a suggestion page, took a chance, and WHAM! Addicted.

So it's a mixture of all the best parts of different genres. It's YA, it's sci-fi, it's romance(young adult, but still definitely there), and paranormal. It's got aliens, alternate universes, royal families and plenty of drama.

The story begins as Jade's begins her new 'normal' life after her mom dies in Connecticut. There's a massive storm that causes her to jump into an alternate universe. Thinking the people who captured her were just freaks who dressed and talked weird, she tries to escape. She is suddenly forced to accept that she's somehow herself in a new world, yet in this world she is the Princess of Domerica(America under a dome, clever).

Her goal is to get back to her life in her own time in her own universe, but it's not as easy as she thought. She meets a boy, she gets deceived by those closest to her, and in the end what she really wants isn't so easy to figure out.

THIS BOOK WAS GREAT. READ IT.

I was given this book as a free read by the author, I was a little confused by the title and the cover picture thinking it was going to be a bit more of a science fiction read but I was pleasantly surprised. The story line is fresh and not just another supernatural teenager that falls in love. The author really built a whole world around this different dimensions of reality coexisting simultaneously I thought it was a great idea and was really anticipating the main character learning more about her ability to travel through these dimensions. I enjoyed the pace she set for the romance with the connection they felt between them right away it seemed to me that she still kept a slower pace which makes sense to the story and everything the main character was already dealing with.
I can't wait to read more about this world that Vicky Savage has created I found it intriguing and her imagination to be a wonderful place to visit.

An uneven but ultimately satisfying read. There are a few things that bothered me - instant love between the main characters and some things that were too much to believe. It really bothered me that Jaden kept viewing all of the people in Domerica as the same people from earth. They aren't the same - they don't have the same memories or experiences, and other than physical appearance, are ultimately strangers. The other thing that got to me was that no one realized the Domerica Jaden had changed. The family never sits back reminiscing about old times and realizes that this Jaden doesn't remember? They don't realize that her speech and world view has drastically changed literally overnight?

Nevertheless, Vicky Savage is phenomenal at bringing worlds alive. I was so engrossed in this world that she built that I couldn't put it down. The people, their lives, and their world seems to be breathing at your fingertips.

I bought this book when I was at a book fair because I was immediately drawn in by the cover: two beautiful green eyes. It was described as fantasy with romance and indeed it was! I love everything about the book. The protagonist Jaden Beckett is living in Connecticut and a lightning storm transports her to a parallel world called Domerica (it is fashioned with Domes). In Domerica her life changes from the life of a normal teenager to a life imposed with responsibility. My favorite characters would have to be the Skorplings and the ever steady Ralston who is a mentor and friend to Jaden. I don't want to reveal too much so all I'm going to say is the only part of the book I didn't like was the IUGA because I felt their stance on Jaden wasn't explained. That however is one small thing in a great book! I can't read to read the next one!

Good book. Jaden, a seventeen year old in the process of moving to another school and house with her brother and dad shortly after the death of her mom finds herself in another world and another time. A parallel world populated by friends and family who are not who she knows them as. In this world she is not just a regular teen in school she is a princess who will rule a third of the world. She falls in love with her kidnapper, lives with her mother (who is still alive and the reigning queen), meets Ralston, an agent of the Inter-Universal Ghidance Agency (IUGA) who is suppose to guide her until they can get her back to her world, saves an outcast civilization, and in all of this, discovers who she is as a person.
Definitely a recommendation for those interested in time travel and parallel universe scenarios. Oh yeah, there is a twist at the end.

Right from the beginning, I was taken by this story. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical. I'm not a huge fan of the covers, but it's what's inside that counts... and the inside was fantastic. Honestly, this is one of the best indie book trilogies that I have read. Jaden is such a strong character and I loved reading about her. It's crazy that she had to switch from being a normal teenager to being a princess (which, by the way, sounds awesome).

This was one of the best books I've read as far as world-building goes-- out of every indie or traditionally published book. Vicky did an amazing job building a story that had a beautiful richness to it. I couldn't stop reading this. I didn't want to put it down. The descriptions were flawless and breath-taking. It was some of the best writing I have seen in a very long time.

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was well-written and it definitely captured my attention throughout. I really liked Jaden although I wish I was more vested in her relationship with Ryder. I think it might have been too "easy" for me. I think that was my biggest complaint - that everything was a bit too "easy" - Jaden pretty easily got herself out of bad situations and I would have liked a bit more conflict, for instance, with Olivia (her best friend from Earth/rival for Ryder's attention in the other dimension.) Although I definitely enjoyed the read, I wasn't planning on purchasing the second installment immediately. And then I did :)

I love this story. Talk about star crossed lovers, these two are an entire dimension separated. Jaden is a saucy girl, pulled from what we consider normal earth into an alternate earth where society exists only within three dome structures. All others humanity was destroyed in an event in this dimension's history. In this new earth, she meets Ryder, son of a chief of those who survive outside the domes. In the short time she is there, she manages to change a good bit of the social and political structure of one of the domes and possibly the entire planet. I can't wait to read more of this wonderful series.
