Clean cut, all-American, hot as sin, and sweet enough to lick all over.
That’s how my friend Skye describes Miles Blake. It’s how I’d describe him, too, if I didn’t just find out the one-night stand that rocked my world is my best friend’s fiancé’s best friend…God, what a mouthful.
Now, the cat’s out of the bag, and despite the lingering attraction between us, I’ve locked him firmly in the friend zone.
What else am I supposed to do? If I allow myself to enjoy Miles the way I want to, what will happen when things inevitably go bad? We’d be putting our prospective best friends in the middle, that’s what. And I refuse to be the cause of tension between my bestie and the love of her life.
No way. No how.
But it doesn’t take long for the desire simmering inside me to come to a head. Miles is charming, funny, gorgeous, and kind…everything I could want in a man wrapped in a sexy package that makes my body revolt against my mind and its ridiculous decision to keep things friendly.
So we make a deal––we’ll remain friends, but with…ahem…benefits. Nothing changes outside of the bedroom, and when we end the physical stuff, we’ll remain friends. No harm. No foul.
Piper James lives in Idaho with her husband, two teenage sons, two cats, and a dog.
Her favorite things are romance novels, coffee, potato chips, and her Jeep Wrangler…and her family, of course. Seriously. She loves her family more than coffee and her jeep. *exaggerated wink*
When she’s not writing, she watches ghost shows and spends most of her time trying to convince her family their house is haunted. Because it is.
She wrote YA paranormal romance for 6 years under the name Wendi Wilson before giving into her desire to write spicy romcoms, and it was the best career decision she’s ever made…until she decides to write a book about the ghosts. Because they are definitely real.
When Roxy’s best friend gets engaged to a hot quarterback, he introduces his teammates and sparks fly! But Roxy refuses to do anything to mar her BFF’s happiness. Roxie and Miles try to be just friends, then friends with benefits. Roxie realized she likes the “benefits more than she intended! Spicy, fun and sweet!
These characters hit it off from the very beginning and they are perfect for each other. The chemistry between them is electric. A fantastic performance. #pfp
I literally finished this in one day. I love this cast of characters. It’s like a really X-rated hallmark movie and I loved it. It’s a fantasy and I don’t care that none of this would ever happen. I’ll live in that fantasy town, thanks.
I devoured this book in one day. I think Piper James has become a new favourite author of mine!

Bump and Run is a sweet and sexy sports romance and follows Roxy and Miles. Roxy is a beautiful waitress. She bakes and sells cookies as a side gig. She has dreams of opening up her little shop one day.
One night Miles and his friends are eating dinner at the restaurant where Roxy works and the moment these two cross paths, Miles can’t seem to take his eyes off her. It doesn’t take him long to try and make a move on her. She agrees to meet up with him after she’s finished work. The two end up having an extremely sexy, steamy one-night stand together. Roxy later finds out that Miles plays football and that they both share mutual friends. It’s when they are both visiting Riggs and Tessa (from book 1) that they realise and it shocks them both. They didn’t think they’d ever see each other again and the fact that they share mutual friends has made it complicated and a little messy.
They both agree that remaining friends is what is best, however they can fight it all they like but there is an undeniable attraction between the two of them, just like there was the first night they met. There’s only so long they can deny this chemistry. The more time they spend together, the more the chemistry intensifies and the more they lose their battle and both agree to be friends with benefits. The perfect plan, right?? Can they remain friends and have fun or will feelings get in the way? Are they kidding themselves?
Oh my lord these two were two of a kind. I loved them and was rooting for them from the first time they met! The banter with these two is top-tier. It had me laughing and swooning throughout the book. This book may have been sweet, sexy, and entertaining with humour but it also held depth and emotion. It had it all. I enjoyed it.
The audiobook was great. I’m still fairly new to both the narrators so it takes me a bit to adjust to them but they brought the book to life and brought the emotion in the characters.
I can’t wait to see what else this author has up her sleeve! High recommend!
Gahhhh this one was my favorite of the trilogy so far (I hope we get more from this world, I am loving these cute, sexy, and palate cleanser from some of the darker books I listen to!) I enjoyed how hard Miles fell and how he had to work on getting Roxy to see him as more than a friend. I get her worry, that if something were to happen between them it would ruin the friend dynamic, but he ends up putting everything in jeopardy anyway. So why not go with your heart and just have the leap of faith?!
I enjoyed this sports romance, friends to lovers, reluctant romance hahaha. The football hints and glimpses were so fun, I enjoyed his explanations to Roxy (an avid football fan here made me giggle haha). I liked seeing for once he guy being the first to fall and the one to push for the relationship, it was a nice change of pace. I thought the friends in this one were spot on too, like come on girl we all know you like him and he likes you...just go for it!! The tension and chemistry between them was ridiculous, I loved how protective he was of her (him barging in on her date was hilarious and knight in shining armor). I like they could be blunt with one another, they didnt hold back when one was being ridiculous (even though Miles had to play off the friends with benefits thing for a bit). Miles proved himself time and time again Roxy could depend on him, that he wasnt going to go anywhere. I also loved how golden retriever, funny guy, flirtiness galore Miles was. He made me smile so much and I was so jelly of Roxy haha.
Narration was good again in this one, the male narrator had to switch it up (I mean he did book 1 so that helped cement these personalities of all the guys) and really did a great job with Miles performances. It was so believable, the angst of not being with Roxy fully, the perseverance to make her his, and his goofy but sexy nature was perfection. The female narrator did a good job in this one as well, with how stubborn Roxy was, but how deep down she wanted to let Miles in and sweep her off her feet. She did a great job with the friends as well, keeping their personalities in check and making them all believable and come to life for listeners. Overall solid 4.5/5 for the narration!
Couldn't get enough of this story, the ending make me laugh so hard and the smile stayed on my face hours afterward. This is the kind of book that makes you feel good and brightens your day. Loved their love story, wish it was longer 😍😍😍
When “Roxanne meets “Blake at the restaurant where she works, sparks fly immediately. The two share a night together that neither of them will forget. She slips out while he’s still sleeping, thinking that she won’t see him again.
Miles Blake is a professional football player for the Branston Bandits. His best friend and teammate, Riggs, has recently become engaged to his girlfriend, Tessa. Riggs has recently moved in with her, so his house next door is going on the market. Miles makes an offer on the house and Riggs sells. He’s thrilled to be living next door to Riggs and Tessa. Miles decides to throw a housewarming get together with a few teammates, including Riggs. Tessa invites a few of her friends over, including her best friend, Roxy. When they see each other at the party, Miles and Roxy realize they’ve met before. Yep, the one night stand of “Blake and “Roxanne. Things are about to become complicated.
Roxy is convinced that nothing else can happen between her and Miles because when it will inevitably end, it will make things uncomfortable within their friend group. Tessa is finally getting her happily ever after, and Roxy doesn’t want to stand in the way of her happiness. If she ends up dumping Miles later, it will cause problems between Tessa and Riggs. So, at Roxy’s urging (despite Miles objections), they decide to just be friends.
As time goes on, Roxy and Miles find themselves drawn into one another’s orbit. They’re spending quite a lot of time together, forming a real friendship, while fighting their growing feelings for one another. Roxy confides in Miles that she doesn’t want to be a waitress forever and she’s trying to build her side hustle, baking sweet confections, into a sustainable business. Miles knows she’s an excellent baker; he’s spent enough nights at her house helping her. One night, they give into their feelings again. They decide to chance the rules they’ll be friends with benefits until they decide to stop, then they’ll go back to being friends. Simple, right? Ahh, the best laid plans
I loved Roxy and Miles together. He was supportive and levelheaded every time Roxy started to spin out. Because of her past, Roxy wasn’t banking on a forever with someone, so Miles took her by surprise. I can’t wait to see what happens next for this friend group.
Cecily Foster and Josh Innerst were the narrators for this installment of the series and, again, I really enjoyed their performance.
Terrific Story & Narration🎧A Sweet & Spicy Delight!
Bump and Run Branston Bandits, Book 2 By:Piper James Narrated by:Cecily Foster,Josh Innerst
Piper James pens another delightful novel set in her “Branston Bandits series, a sports romance with lots of humor, heart, and heat. Roxy is a waitress and bakes and sells cookies on the side, with dreams of opening her own shop one day. Miles is eating dinner with friends at the restaurant where she works and he can not keep his eyes off of her, so he makes a move on her, and she agrees to meet him after her shift and the two have a steamy one-night-stand. Roxy did not know that he played football or that they had mutual friends in common until they both saw each other again while visiting those friends, Tessa and Riggs, from the first book. She was not expecting to see him again and having friends in common complicates things, so they decide to only be friends. But there is undeniable chemistry between them and they could only deny each other for so long and they agree to be friends with benefits. What could go wrong with that? There is never a dull moment in this book and the writing, plot and world building are terrific, as are the character growth and development. I thought these two were great together and for each other. Piper James, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Cecily Foster and Josh Innerst deliver another fabulous performance, bringing the characters and story to life. They have a complete understanding of the characters they are portraying, giving each their own voice and personality. Their portrayal of the characters is spot on and they are believable in every role they play. You could hear how much heart they put into their performance as they capture all the characters emotions, having you feel each one. They set the perfect tone for the story and handled the witty dialogue natural and with ease. These two make a great narration team, their voices and performance complement each other and they are a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.
Bump and Run Branston Bandits, Book 2 By: Piper James Narrated by: Cecily Foster, Josh Innerst
A baker and a football player meet in a restaurant. Yes please. Especially when it's these two. Roxy makes erotic cookies and we first met her in the first book of Piper James's Branston Bandits series. She is quite the personality, a bit vulnerable, confident in her baking but when it comes to relationships, she is hesitant. Especially when she realizes the man she has taken interest in is the one and only Miles, friend of her best friend Tessa and her fiancé Riggs. Miles is a player, but there is something about Roxy that has caught his heart. Playing friends may be the way to start to win her over, right? This is a fun listen, packed with humor, good friends and spicy moments. I can feel Roxy's hesitancy, and the pull she has towards Miles. Miles is a sweetheart, and his confidence in Roxy and feelings are genuine. Loved their progression to find their happily ever after!
Cecily Foster and Josh Innerst continue this series with a fantastic performance. These two find the personalities in their characters and create the perfect atmosphere for their budding love. The way they interact and their chemistry comes through and made for a wonderful listen.
Gah, I love Miles so much. Such a golden retriever goofball.
This book was so much fun. I really enjoy James' fast paced books. They always hit the spot when I'm looking for something short and spicy. This one was no different.
This one follows Miles and Roxy, who are the best friends of Riggs and Tessa (book 1). After a chance meeting at Roxy's workplace where she is a waitress, Miles and Roxy have a one night stand. Only to discover the following day that their best friends are dating.
Miles is drawn to Roxy and wants to date but Roxy is against it as she doesn't want to cause any problems in their friend group.
This book was so good. It made me laugh so hard at the banter between Roxy and Miles. I loved how determined he was to prove himself to her. It also made me annoyed at Roxy because she was letting her fear control her decisions when they are so obviously good together.
🌶️🌶️🌶
Tropes/themes ✨One night stand ✨Friends with benefits ✨Golden retriever MMC ✨He falls first
This is book 2 in James' Branston Bandits series and can be read as a standalone, but I think better when read in series order as there is character crossover. This book is the journey of Roxie and Miles (best friends of our main characters from book 1 - The Turnover. Not as many football puns in this one but still super fun and I loved the scene with the football cookies - so funny! James' delivers a wonderfully well written and narrated romance read with a great balance of sweet and steam. These characters fight their HEA love from the very start - from a one-night stand to friends with benefits, these two take their relationship to every level before finally submitting to their HEA! A great read / listen with an extra epilogue that teases us for book 3! Love this group of friends who find their loves in a group of football teammates and friends!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Nothing wrong with going home with the hot guy who's been flirting with you all night, you'll never see each other again, right? That's what Roxy thinks when she goes home with Miles Blake one night after her shift,,,,only to discover that he is the best friend of the fiance of her best friend, Tessa. Yeah, too much risk there. She won't let anything happen between them again, even if the tension between them is still off the charts. Miles can't get Roxy off his mind, or out of his heart. Agreeing with her, that they need to be friends and friends only, he makes it his life's mission to show her that there is more between them. He wants forever with her, not just another bump and run. This was so freaking cute! And hot and sweet! I cannot wait for the next book and I would love more from this couple!!
Another touchdown from Piper James! (Sorry, couldn't resist the football pun.) Miles Blake is a cinnamon roll of a defensive back convinced his one night stand is the woman for him, while Roxy fights her attraction to the hot football player to avoid upsetting her friend group. As with all Piper James books, the heat between the characters is smoking and the friendships are fun and real. I just love that Miles is frustrated that Roxy won't give in, but willing to play the long game, confident that she'll realize in time that "friends" should be something more. I love how easy their friendship is (well, easy other than the simmering heat between them that Roxy is trying to resist) and their interactions brought a smile to my face. Another fun, sexy read from Piper James, and I can't wait to read the next one!
This story is for Roxy, the wild red head, waitress and future bakery owner and Miles, the muscular, sweet, football star.
In a wild one night stand filled with steamy chemistry, Roxy and Miles have met their match in each other. Little did they realize they already ran in the same circle, they just hadn’t been introduced yet. Roxy’s best friend Tessa is engaged to Riggs, best friend to Miles.
Even though the connection is there, Roxy refuses to let him get too close. She’s determined the relationship would fail and cause tension between Tessa and Riggs. Little to her realization, her plans at denying them both has unintentionally cause tension through the friend group.
Everyone can see how great they are together. They just need the chance to see it too.
OMG! 🤭 I’m still buzzing from Bump and Run! 💥 I loved it even more than The Turnover. 📚 Miles and Roxy’s one-night stand turned into a major surprise when they realized who the other was! 🤯 😱 They decide to remain friends even though the chemistry is there. 🤫 But as time went on, their friendship blossomed into something more. 🔥 🌶
This was such a cute, fun read with so many laugh-out-loud moments. 😭 And there were definitely a few AWWW moments too! 🥰 The spice was perfect and their relationship felt so real and relatable. 💯
This was an entertaining lovers to friends to lovers romance. The two main characters Roxy and Miles became lovers before realizing how close they were already connected by their best friends. They try to take a step back, to be just friends, and of course this being a romance novel things don’t work for them as friends. I really enjoyed the time spent with the characters actually getting to know each other. It made the ending ring so much truer. The narration was pretty good. I found myself liking the female narrator more so than the male narrator. Just as a personal opinion. I thought at times he sounded older than the character was supposed to be. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this though and am excited for book three. TheFlockVIPReviewTeam
As with every book I’ve read from this author, this one was another great book. I absolutely love the story, and the characters. This book caught my attention from the beginning, and held it throughout. Roxy is this strong capable woman. Miles, he’s this super sweet amazing guy. Then these two share an amazing one night together, not knowing who the other is. And then they meet again, and learn their best friends are engaged. These two, trying to keep their hands off each other, when the chemistry is through the roof.. it was great. And you spend the entire time hoping that they can see how perfect they are for the other. Definitely recommend this book. Was a quick, fun, amazing read.
Roxy is a fiery redhead, waitress, aspiring business owner
When Miles suggests to Roxy that they leave together after her shift (she was his waitress) she takes a chance and does and man oh man the sparks flew!!! She sneaks out the next day without even knowing his last name or number
Well imagine her surprise when at a friendly get together that Roxy’s best friends fiancés intrudes Miles as his best friend!
Despite super strong chemistry Roxy has up high walls and Miles has nothing but clear vision that Roxy is the one for him !!!
Miles and Roxy are everything. I actually really enjoyed seeing their relationship progress from the initial one night stand. Sure, the way that they got together may not have been conventional, but I think that it was a good way for them to start out. Piper weaved together a beautiful story that made me yearn for more. I devoured this book, and was actually kind of sad when it ended. Miles was such a gentleman for agreeing to being friends with Roxy, even though he thought that it wasn't necessary. It allowed him to be in her life, which is what he wanted most.
Well done Piper! Can't wait to see the next in the series!
Loved the dual narration from Cecily Foster and Josh Innerst, perfect.
Roxy dreams of having her own bakery, at the moment she is a waitress, while bakes and sells them from the side. One night out with friends Miles at the restaurant Roxy is working, he askes her out, Roxy agrees to meet him after her shift and the two have a steamy one-night-stand. Unknown to Roxy Miles plays football or that they had mutual friends. It while visiting friends they meet again. Both decide to be friends. But there is undeniable chemistry between them and they could only deny each other for so long and they agree to be friends with benefits. A brilliant story, with such a emotional rollercoaster ride.
This is a delightful listen! Roxy and Miles's story starts with a steamy one-night stand, only for Roxy to discover he's deeply connected to her social circle. Determined to keep things platonic to avoid friend group drama, they opt for a "friends with benefits" arrangement. Their chemistry is electric, and their journey is filled with humor, romance, and emotional moments. I loved how Roxy struggled with her boundaries while Miles's charm and kindness kept pulling her in. The narrators did an excellent job bringing the characters to life. This audiobook is a perfect blend of fun, spice, and heartfelt moments. Highly recommend it for fans of sports romance and friends-to-lovers tropes!
Narration was good. I enjoyed listening to the narrators.
This was another, cute, steamy, funny one night stand turn friends with benefits, sports romance. Miles and Roxy hook up and then find out their friends are a couple. Roxy is a feisty independent doesn't want a relationship especially with Miles in case they breakup and make things awkward with their friends. Miles 💖💖💖 what can I say these football players know what they want, they just have trouble expressing themselves to these ladies. Great addition to the series. Can't wait to jump into the next book when the audio releases.
Another great read from Piper James. Did not want to put it down I got an ARC from author And This is second book in this series it's just as good as the first not as many laugh out loud moments ,but we get more naughty cookies . Great to dispatch up with Tessa and Rigg but this is Roxy and Miles story with plenty of heat they have one night stand instant chemistry, but then realise they are besties of their engaged friends and Roxy feels she can't date him but decide to be friends with benefits when both can't keep way from other can't wait for book 3
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love me the playful romantic interest! They are always so fun to read
This book is equal parts sweet, silly, and spicy 🔥🔥
Miles is your swoon-worthy goofy all-star with a panty dropping smile. Roxy is your fiery, stubborn goddess with a heart of gold.
I loved watching Roxy slowly realize that she has true feelings for Miles (no matter how hard she kept denying it to protect her friends). I loved the friends to lovers trope. It is always so much fun.
I also LOVED that scene where Miles said those "three little words". I about died 🤣 also that epilogue? I want video footage! 🤣🤣
Miles and Roxy start with a one-night-stand, can they end with forever? Miles thinks so, and he’s out to prove it. Roxy doesn’t want to rock the boat of their friends group. Afraid of commitment, they enter into a friends with benefits arrangement—on her end anyway. What happens when she realizes she feels and wants more? Can she get what she wants even if she’s afraid? Will she break through the defense and score?
Piper James counties to bring us couples with flaws that match perfectly.
Roxy had mind blowning one night stand that she cant for get till she walks in to her friends backyard and see him sitting their. Roxy want to keep thinks friend and keep mile at arm length but Miles known what he wants and want something more with her. Miles is a wrecking ball coming to destroy the wall around Roxys heart. The chemistry between both of them makes me wish i was there watching it all unfold with some popcorn. They are my favorite couple of this series so far and i cant wait for the next one.
Even tough they are combustible together, Roxy friend zones Miles in order to not cause issues for her best friend should it not work out between them. As they begin to spend more time together, Roxy comes up with a friends with benefits arrangement which Miles agrees to, for now. This works for them until real feelings come into play. Now they need to take the chance to get their own HEA.
Great narration by Cecily Foster and Josh Innerst once again.
This is the second book in the series and follows two other characters in the 8 person friend group. This story still has the funny moments and great interactions between the main and side characters which I LOVE. I truly wish these were my friends. Roxy and Miles are so perfect for each other but of course people try to fight it for responsible reasons but all ends well and how it is supposed to be. I can't wait to see more of the couples in the first two books and to see how things turn out for the others.
Y’all I want to marry Miles Blake!!! This book is everything you want rolled into one!!! It’s sweet, sexy, loving, and heartwarming. I was immediately hooked but what sealed it for me was this quote “And I quote, He made me come so hard, my grandchildren probably felt it. Unquote. I knew from that I was in for a ride with this book and it did not disappoint!
Good lord Miles Blake is the epitome of a good man and the perfect book boyfriend!!!
When Roxy serves a table of enticing eligible bachelors, she keeps her cool & her professionalism…at least until one makes his interest known. Sometimes, it’s just hard to resist. And when your one night stand rocks your world in the best way possible, what are you to do? Bump…and run…of course. But when Roxy’s best friend finally gets the opportunity to introduce her friends to her fiancé’s friends, sparks fly. Miles and Roxy find themselves in a precarious situation. They will forever be connected just from the fact that their best friends are getting married. They make every attempt to remain “just friends, but with chemistry that intense, they both know what they’re missing out on. And sometimes, knowing the intensity makes resisting the urge that much harder. I absolutely ADORED Miles persistence & total golden retriever/cinnamon roll status. His pursuit of Roxy and persistence surprised me, but he never ever pressure her. The way that he showed Roxy her worth & his desires just had me falling head over heels for him.
Audiobook Review: Cecily Foster & Josh Innerst delivered another great performance of these characters. The push & pull between Miles & Roxy was on point & made me refuse to press pause on this book until it was over.
