Yoshiki Nakamura () is a Japanese mangaka. She was born June 17. Nakamura made her manga debut with "Yume de Auyori Suteki" in the manga magazine Hana to Yume in 1993.
Volume 29 of Skip Beat is a scattered addition to the series. Well, I suppose the whole series is scattered, but this is particularly so. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is one of numerous reasons that - especially when I step away from it for awhile - it's hard to take it seriously.
Kyoko has finally - finally - realized that she likes Ren. And this terrifies her. All the emotions she locked up in an unbreakable box have shaken out. Of course, she doesn't think that Ren could possibly like her that way. And Ren still thinks she's not interested in him that way. The tension between them is higher than ever, although both try to deflect it with humor.
The plot moves through several different events. They start out at a cast wrap party. A male co-star is interested in Kyoko so dresses her up like a doll. Ren is furious. She looks gorgeous, but being tarted up by a man has consequences that Kyoko is too naive to realize. I love seeing Ren's protective side. Then it moves on to Ren and Kyoko's new roles, playing the black clothed, pierced Heel siblings. The last portion of the book is a set up for what I assume will be a long plot arc.
There's a brief moment with Sho. Sho's manager/girlfriend (I'm not sure which she is) sees Kyoko on TV dressed up beautifully. She is desperate to keep Sho away from the screen knowing that he'll freak out if he sees Kyoko. I miss Sho. I hope he plays a bigger role in future volumes.
The soap opera continues. And like all good soap operas, I can't tear my eyes away from the craziness.
I like how they share the wrap-up for Dark moon. Although I also got so see my least favorite look of Kyoko's so far. Ren continues to accept how he feels about her but does not act appropriately on it (Naughty Ren!!) but the outcome is rather amusing. Once again, the presidents antics both disturb and crack me up. I love seeing Kyoko step up into her new role as Setsu! Such attitude! I loved it!
We continue to get glimpses into Ren's past. I just love her comedic timing, the funny faces and the unbelievable fantastic story. It's a classic shoujo and I just know there is a happy ending at the end. Until then I eagerly await for the day we know what happened to Ren!
Yeah, yeah, Skip Beat! is one of those series where the cover art isn't indicative of the actual story. This is about as much romance as we're going to get.
Misleading covers aside, Dark Moon is wrapping up, after-party and all, and now it's time for Ren's role as Black Jack to start. Ren's worried that he'll lose himself to the darkness that used to be part of his past. Kyoko has other worries on her mind, including trying to keep a lock on her heart.
Even after 29 volumes, this series is still going on strong. In fact, this is the only manga series that is going to go beyond 30 volumes that I am determined to keep reading. I drop most series by this time because I tend to get bored of the serialized feel, but Skip Beat! manages to still feel fresh and fun. I do have my issues, however, the art style being chief among them. I know it's the style, but at times, the disproportions get to me a little (this coming from a CLAMP fan where they seem to specialize in disproportions!).
Looking forward to the next volume once my library acquires it (though my husband keeps trying to talk me into just buying this series ourselves...but if it keeps at this pace, we'll be reading this well into the 50's or 60's and I don't think I can take that plunge in buying that many volumes, no I don't think I can, ha).
This was a fantastic read. Skip Beat is one of my favourite mangas of all time. All of the volumes will get 5 stars from me. Each volume just keeps getting better and better. In this volume, Kyoko gets a makeover by her costar, Kijima. We get to see how vulnerable Kyoko is when she starts to realize her feelings for Ren. We see more of Ren's jealous side as well. Also, we get to see more of Ren and Kyoko portraying the Heel siblings as they begin to film the movie, Tragic Maker. It was a wonderful addition to the storyline that already exists. I Loved Ren and Kyoko. Ren showed a protective side of himself in the last chapter, which made me love him more. Also, I just love Kyoko and her attitude. Another A+ book for me. I cannot wait to read Volume 30. Overall, an amazing read.
Okay, this was a pretty cute volume... but at the same time, nothing really happened and it just felt like filler 8'D
Basically... we got... - Kyouko being an idiot and accepting a makeover from a random (admittedly co-star) guy, and almost ending up on a date with him. - Ren being possessive - but in a weird controlling way (not cool dude). - A brief interlude where Shou's manager was watching the interview with Ren and Kyouko, and trying to prevent Shou from seeing it and turning into "jealous Shou" again - A quick introduction of Cain Heel to his costars (in the movie where he will play "Black Jack") - A set-up for tension within said cast
...But nothing really HAPPENEDDDDD >.>
I'm hoping the next volume gives some definitive stuff to happen, and some closure with the things that were introduced in this one (but weren't followed through) 8'D

?Ups!
OMG Kyoko looked so pretty ?? She always looks pretty anyway ? But did anyone think that Ren was being a bit much? I mean, I didn’t like how he used LME and practically shaming Kyoko to hide his true feelings ? Also, Kijima was slimy, but still- no need to make her feel bad, Ren! ??

I fell in love with this manga immediately. It drew me in and kept me there. Sadly to say i have been reading it from the internet and hate to wait in between chapters. I've also been watching it's anime and I've seen the first episode of the TV show extravagant challenge based on this manga. But nothing beats the manga because it has all the extra details that are not shown elsewhere.
I'm writing this review for all of the volumes of Skip Beat because i tend to read them all together. I enjoy Kyoko's personality, the way she is inexperienced in various things(such as friends, boyfriends, etc.), serious with others(her acting,etc.)..Her relationship with Ren and how she won't admit to her feelings. I also like the turn of events with Sho, how he is now interested in her.
I like reading this manga over & over again because it basically shows a young girl who had her heart broken and was stepped on, who gathered up all her anger, her little left hope and decided to get revenge. Along the way she makes friends, experiences new feelings, develops a deep love for her acting which changes things around for her.
No matter how many time you get knocked down, you should get back up and fight!!
Urrrgh. Kyouko, if it looks like a duck...! She tries way too hard to apply ambiguity to Ren's actions. Ren's caught on to this tendency and has begun to exploit it. He's less guarded around Kyouko and does things that would make any other girl plainly aware of his fondness for her. Kyouko has realized she's disappointed that she's able to attribute Ren's actions to other reasons (finally. Such denial.). And even other people are starting to notice how well they fit together (I mean outside the matchmakers Yashiro and Takarada-taicho). Meanwhile, Shou's out there somewhere thinking he got game; Reino's probably getting off by flogging himself whilst eating Kyouko's hate-filled chocolates and watching Dark Moon; Kijima's probably plotting to get Kyouko to a love hotel and make sweet, sweet statutory love to her; and Murasame wants that tail so bad he grew his thugly balls back. He'll be lucky if "Cain" doesn't tear them off.
I loved the anime of this, and kept wishing there would be more. I should read more of the manga, so I saw this volume as an opportunity to do so. -------- The J-drama, *Dark Moon*, that Kyoko and Ren have been starring in has come to an end. Now, they must encounter the press and talk about what they liked most of it. Can Kyoko Magami successfully handle this task? Then, Ren must present himself as a British actor, and Kyoko as his sister/translator. How well can they convince everyone that they are these people? -------- This volume was provided to me by VIZ Media via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own. I want to say that I loved this, and look forward to reading other volumes.
On to the next project, and a (smidge) closer to Kyoko and Ren finally having a romantic something...
The Dark Moon arc has finally ended, and Kyoko is on her way to the wrap-up party when a costar offers to pay for a full makeover. Once again, a little makeup and a stunning outfit turn Kyoko into a completely different person; Ren hides his jealousy by lecturing her on her professionalism. Both Kyoko and Ren must be careful though, because the LME president has a new project that will bring them closer than they have ever been before.
A good filler, but we all know we're waiting for Ren to just make a move already. I'm curious about the new Cain siblings, and I'm eager to see how this particular character parameter works for them.
I got this for Christmas and practically screamed my head off in excitement and I don't do that unless its something I absolutely love love anime or comics ;) I was sick while reading this and it was so entertaining I quite forgot my nausea and sat there laughing my head off at these fantastic characters.
First of all, I am so totally happy that there is such a thing in the world as shoujo manga. It has literally made my life, many times over. This volume of Skip Beat! is as good as any of the others, as we continue to get closer to the truth about Ren's past. Love these!

Today's post is on Skip Beat!, vol 29 by Yoshiki Nakamura. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. As it is the twenty-ninth in the long running series, you need to have read the first twenty-eight volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes shojo manga, humorous over-the-top plots, and good characters. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this series. The story is told from third person close of Kyoko and at times Ren. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- On the wat to the Dark Moon wrap party Kyoko bumps into her cast mate Kijima. He's never paid her any attention before, but he heard that people called her beautiful in her Natsu role. Kijima can't contain his curiosity and buys Kyoko a total makeover for the party. But is his interest innocent, or does he have wicked plans in store?!
Review- Kyoko gets to see some of Ren's jealously over her and of course she does not know what to think and just glosses over it. The meat of the volume is Ren and Kyoko playing the Heel siblings again and Ren causing from trouble as Cain Heel. He is playing his role well and is annoying another castmate. Kyoko is much more comfortable in her role now and I look forward to seeing what trouble they cook up as the Heel's.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Kyoko debates going to the party and how to act around Ren now that she is conscious of her feelings for him.
She attends the part with Kijima who is interested in her because of people who says she is beautiful and grown up when she is dressed as Natsu. He pays for her make over and she attends the party on his arm. Ren is angry and informs Kyoko that when a man does that its because he wants his way with her. Kijima even acts her own but she thinks he is joking.
Eventually its time for the Heels siblings to make their debut but they are an hour late. When they finally arrive, its get their co workers talking, mainly about how he looks and who is Cain because no one has heard of him before.
The director is aware of Cain Setsu but is keeping it a secret excited how the movie will be. Meanwhile, Cain and coworker Taira Murasame don’t start on the right foot. As a former gang member, he feels he shouldn’t be intimidated by Cain, but he is.
Kyoko Mogami is only smart when the plot calls for it *deep sigh* I know she's 17 but there seems to be no sense for the fact that the men around her see her as a woman despite her supposedly working past so many other issues this one seems inconquerable!
Are the Japanese really such perfectionists when it comes to starting a business? To the point of playing bad characters even off-set. Kyoko tries to extinguish the flame of her feelings for Ren at all costs. Some of the close-ups are breathtaking.
Press event for Dark Moon. The return of "I'm just a girl" Kyoko getting swept up in a love rival's attention. And officially the start of Ren filming as Cain Heel. His costar saying the "creepy" outloud.
