After a terrorist bomb catapults her into an alternate universe full of magic and mystery, teenage Noriko finds herself the central figure in a political power struggle over a dark prophecy she's destined to fulfill, turning the man she loves into a monster that could ultimately destroy the world.

With the evil Brunei brothers hot on their trail, Noriko and her doomed warrior Izark follow Clairgeeta to the rebel enclave in the fortified city of Ennamarna. But the reunion with old friends is quickly interrupted. Corrupt local officials plan to oust the fugitives and turn the walled city into an enemy military base.

While Noriko and Izark once again use their power to save their friends from the greedy government, their enemies in Reinka are joining forces, mixing up new magic that they hope will bring the evil prophecy that much closer to coming true.

Name : ±ù´¨¾©×Ó (¤Ò¤«¤ï¤¤ç¤¦¤³)

Blood type : A

Likes Jackie Chan movies and American movies like BIG. Also cats, but not enough to own one. One of her favorite activities is decorating and creating useful objects for her home. Hates mosquitoes and cockroaches. Has enormous trouble in bicycle parks.

Does mostly light-hearted comedy stories, but very entertaining. She does surprisingly great action scenes (haven't seen many shoujo artists try at a Western before!!).

Her stories ranges from cute to action, but all done unparalled attention - the drawings are refined and the storylines bring the readers into what the characters feel. Her page layouts and camera angles varies a lot, and thus keeps the interest of the reader.

Opening in mid-swing, in the midst of the battle with the Brunei brothers that concluded the eleventh episode of Kyoko Hikawa's fourteen-volume fantasy manga epic, this twelfth entry in the series sees Izark's true nature once again revealed, as one of the brothers tries to incorporate his power, but is transformed into a monster, and then destroyed instead. Somewhat heartened by Mr. Clairgeeta's assertion that it is not power that makes a man evil, but the uses to which he puts it - "If one is attracted to the World of Darkness, he¡¯ll generate darkness. If he chooses the World of Light, he¡¯ll generate light" - Izark, Noriko and their companions fall in with the dissident scholar and his other rescuers, and the entire company embarks on a sea voyage to the country of Donya, where they hope to find shelter in the independent "city of light," Ennamarna. Running into trouble in the nearby town of Lango, the companions eventually do manage, with the help of Doros and his chimos, to make it to Ennamarna, where they are reunited with Gaya and Zena, Duke Jeida and his sons, and Agol and Geena Haas. But unbeknownst to them, they are being pursued by evil seeress Tazasheena, determined to rise in the esteem of the wicked Lord Rachef...

It stands to reason that I would greatly enjoy this episode, as I'd been hoping Noriko and Izark would be reunited with their erstwhile companions for some time now, and I did. The opening scenes were action-packed and exciting, not to mention a little terrifying, and after all of the trials and tribulations through which Noriko and Izark have come - all of Izark's insecurities about who and what he might be, and Noriko's fears about her role in transforming him - and their knowledge that their friends must be aware of their true identities, the warm welcome they receive at the end of this volume was particularly heartwarming. The idea of the World of Light and the World of Darkness offered great promise here - no doubt it will play an important role in the development of the story - and the stage seemed set for the final showdown. I was reaching for the thirteenth almost as soon as I'd set this down...

Where there is darkness, there must be light¡
As the world of darkness encroaches upon the land, a legend begins to surface of a history long forgotten; the world of darkness and the world of light, as well as an evil priest long buried deep beneath¡

I ended up taking a bit of a break from Kanata Kara, as it was taking a darker and darker, more and more political turn, and that type of theming didn¡¯t really fit with the atmosphere of my life at the time.
Even as I¡¯m coming back to it now, I¡¯m still surprised at how dark, and even grotesque, it¡¯s become. Perhaps that highlights Dr. Clairgeeta and his positivity all the more. In a darkness stricken world where all hope seems to be just out of reach, Dr. Clairgeeta offers hope for those who seek it. His different way of thinking, unusual for this world, offers Noriko and Izark a different way of considering their shared prophecy, thereby a different way of considering their relationship.

Dr. Clairgeeta offers that there is always a different way to see one situation.

For a bit there, I ended up thinking that Lord Rachef might be something inhuman¡ I still think that he is. But the entity I expected him to be is someone else.
The evil priest in the legend, the one who wrought darkness over the world starting in one country, is whom Lord Rachef refers to as the master. The one who gave Keimos his power as well. Everything is beginning to align and to make sense. Even those old ruins; they¡¯re the evil priest¡¯s original temple, sunk by the lava and yet untainted by its heat. Perhaps the evil priest lost his body and wishes to take Rachef¡¯s? Or perhaps Rachef is only a tool, and he seeks to take Izark¡¯s. Perhaps he no longer even wishes for a body, he only wishes to spread the world of darkness which he was unable to finish doing so long ago.
This story is coming to a head and it¡¯s building a lot of anxiety over what¡¯s to become of our heroes, and how much anguish even the reader may have to bear.

this volume was pretty heavy on the politics which is fine but it was kind of difficult to get invested in. it might have helped if the land's geography was discussed earlier on

VIDEO REVIEW HERE:

"I believe that the world of light can overcome the world of darkness. If we can just open a pathway to the world of light we might even be able to change the sky demon from an engine of destruction into a force of good."

Oh man, I was about to start crying when we get that reunion at the end! I had to really reel in my emotions because I was just so thankful!

What an awesome and excellent volume! I really really love how this series encourages us to not loose hope. There are times that it was definitely dismal and dark, especially as we see the fighting in the first quarter show, but as the story goes on, we see the love people have for Noriko and Izark. And even greater, Noriko is the one hoping most for change for Izark and believing that not only will they continue to have a relationship, but that Izark himself will be free. Just as free as he was when those chains were broken in one of the previous volumes. <3

Alef and the two ladies he protects really are amazing characters and so glad they are around. They never once have been afraid of Izark, even when they see something that totally changes others view of him. They continue to depend on him (Alef and his shoulder pat LOL!!!) and continue to stand strong with him. (Also special shoutout to Alef because we keep seeing Izark out of his element and I'm 100% here for it!!)

And Doros!! I know I've said it before and I'll say it again, I deeply love his character!

I haven't said it in a while, but our ship continues to be ultimate shojo ship! That one moment with the teleporting was SOOOOO cute! Gah, I love these two!!!

Also can we take a moment to appreciate Izark smiling on the cover? <3 <3 <3

"What...are you!?"

Just before defeating the Brunei brothers, one of them absorbs Izark's powers in the hopes of using it against him...right before he is horrifically turned into a dragon-like beast that vanishes in the sky. This brutal disfiguring really shocked me since this is a shoujo series. And I'm grateful that this series isn't covering up terrible truths. It's simply presenting them as is and it really makes you wonder how the series is going to get to its finale.

Clairgeeta implies tht he knows who Izark and Noriko is to them as he relays his theories about the world of light and how a person only becomes evil or good depending on the intention of their being. In order to learn more about this, they intend to travel to Ennamarna, a holy land once thriving but now a desert of people who cling to their beliefs.

The military is planning to destroy their lands, and as Izark and Noriko travel to warn them and put a stop to this, Lord Rachef and Tazasheena learn of their whereabouts. And this time, they plan to kill Noriko, the girl fated to be the Awakening.

Overall Series review 3 Stars. I probably should have left it after book 7, because there is a sort of ending there with Noriko and Izark leaving their (first set of) friends behind but I did want to see what the conclusion was.
The second half of From Far Away (books 8-14) is weaker in my opinion but I do like Noriko as a character, she¡¯s endearing, and there are parts that I enjoyed.

The question of what Izark is comes to a head, in this volume, and everyone seems to be starting to figure out more of their story. Noriko is beautiful as ever in her love. I'm still absolutely loving this series!

Izark battles Lida, which was intense but Lida ended up killing himself. Izark thought removing the evil seeds would help him but he just disintegrated. Sido steals Izark abilities but he couldn't control it & ended up destroying himself, that made everyone present wary of him except for Clairgeeta as he always knew the sky demon was not evil. Danjel, Wei & Katarina was shocked to learn of Alef's group ID.
Due to what happened they soon parted ways but not before Clairgeeta's supporters tells Alef's group where they might find Duke Jeida: Ennamarina in the country of Donya.
Gorya & Rachef recieves word from Tazasheena that she's found Izark & Noriko who in turn informs Keimos.
Arriving in Donya, Doros has been teaching the others how to teleport but Noriko was the last 1 to get it as she was afraid of teleporting. Irktule then shows up to warn Noriko & Niana that the people of Ennamarina are in trouble. The military wants to use Ennamarina as a military base while they invade Yansk but the mayor refuses to allow that to happen.
A meeting is happening in the city of Ennamarina to discuss the situation. Barago scares Agol, interrupting the meeting but allows Geena to tell them about her vision. Zena confirms her vision.
Rachef has prepared the purest moonstones to send to Tazasheena but as soon as Gorya mentions the Awakening, his thinking splits & decides to deliver the moonstone himself, shocking Gorya.
In a small town, Lango, right outside Ennamarina, Niana once again wanders off & into trouble. With help from Izark, Doros & the chimos they escape the town by several miles. Irktule helped too & brings news that trouble is escalating in Ennamarina, they need to arrive before the military makes their move.
[Good parts start here]
Ennamarina: word spread that Izark & Noriko is coming & appearing in the center of the city.
Though they were warned Izark & Noriko was surprised by the welcome they received from everyone, since what happened in Book 7.
Niana happily reunited with her husband, Glocia with her brothers, Alef with Banadam.
Rachef meets up with Tazasheena, who was happy to see him but he was all business.
The gang was given a room where they could catch up & they discussed everything that happened. Zena tells everyone about the legend of the world of darkness & that temple buried underground where Izark fought with Keimos & Rachef is the same temple in the legend.
To be continued...

It's getting closer to that epic battle between Light and Darkness.
Lots of action and lots of cuteness too, I just adore when the powerful Izark still need that cutie fragile Noriko desperately, and they'e adorable together.
A bit scary that Racheff and Keimos are heading to end Noriko and use Izark.
Overall, I like this volume and definitely will jumping straight to the next volume.

My Thoughts:

In this volume, Izark and Noriko learn about the world of light and it makes it seem more likely that Izark could become a force of good rather than evil. It's thanks to Dr. Clairgeeta that the two of them now have some hope for their future.

They begin to travel towards Ennamarna in search of more knowledge about the world of light and in hopes that they will meet up with Duke Jeida and the others again. It looks like Ennamarna is in danger of being taken over by the military of Donya, though, so their plans need to speed up a bit. Luckily, they get there and the reunion is a happy one, but the plan is for Izark to stop them somehow.

What they don't know is that Rachef is met up with Tazasheena in order to track down Izark and Noriko. I'm not sure why he went himself, but I wouldn't be surprised if he plans to take the power of the sky demon for himself somehow and double cross that evil spirit that has been giving him power. I don't put it past him to try to kill Noriko himself, either. They believe that with Noriko dead and out of the way, Izark will lose his free will and transform into the sky demon as a force of destruction to be used by the evil spirit. I think that spirit is planning to take Izark's body over for himself. Based on what they learned from Zena, there is also a world of darkness and that seems to be the place the evil spirit lived when he was alive.

This could go anyway now. I'm worried about what will happen, but I'm hoping that Izark and Noriko will get to be together in the end.

¡°Can you see it. This is the world of light. Everything has become one in light. I entered the world of light and I found you.
Do you understand? We are the world of light. This is what we have been searching for. I feel a gentle energy that embraces everything. And this energy can be felt anywhere anytime as long as you open yourself to it¡±

Kanata Kara by Kyoko Hikawa has been my most favorite Shoujo Manga since early 90s till today and I know it will stay as my most favorite for years to come.

Kanata Kara is the only shoujo manga that can come close to shounen manga. Hikawa can beautifully mix love story with interesting adventure and great fighting scenes, she also put some good moral in it.

That's the last story arc. Noriko and Izark meet with some of the characters that have appeared in the previous volumes, such as Gaya and the little seer. Glocia and her mum are reunited with their family and they're all preparing for war.

There's not a lot of action here but the author is merely preparing the way for the two last volumes. Not that I'm complaining, though. Still one of the most interesting manga I've read in quite some time.

Sigh, on to volume #13...
