I never doubted Aiden's awesomeness but this novella takes him to a whole new level.
He's not perfect, he's not flawless, but he's wonderful and I love him so much!!!!!!!! And going on writing from Aiden's POV after Deity's ending? Just perfect, Jennifer, just PERFECT. Now I can breath when after the last book I thought I was going to die waiting for Apollyon, so THANK YOU because even if my heart hurts just by thinking about it, I'll try to survive until April.

“Love is the only thing more powerful than Fate.

My heart is in pain.🥺

Aiden’s POV after what happened in Deity….the guilt is clawing at him.
Curse you, [redacted].😖

Now here are some scenes that should be illegal with how much pain it caused me:😭
“I feel it in here," she said, placing her hand against her chest and then against her stomach, "and here. It’s like there’s not enough air or room inside me. That I may burst out of my skin or drown in it, and that wouldn’t be a bad thing. I don’t know why I feel this way, but I always have and will." She tipped her chin up and her entire face was a rosy color. "It’s you. I I love you.

“A…
Face pale and lips trembling, her brows puckered. “I’m so sorry. Aiden, I lo— A scream tore from her, and she arched clear off the mattress, eyes widening.
My heart stopped. “Alex?
“I can’t it’s everywhere. It hurts. Aiden, please make it stop please… She slumped back, whimpering and twisting, thrashing her head back and forth.

“Apollo had changed Hyacinth into a flower to protect him. I would give Alex back control so she could protect herself instead of making the decision for her. That's how we were different from the gods.

Yup, JLA loves to torture my poor heart. And it’ll still be getting worse from here.

The first time I read this series, I hadn’t read this novella and I was super confused with some things in . I highly recommend reading this before the 4th book!!!

I mean, it’s also Aiden’s POV so who wouldn’t want to get the chance to read that?!?!😆

Hehe this also helped with my never-to-be-finished reading challenge😈

I have to admit that the more I read, the more enthralled I get into Alex's world. Alex is no doubt reckless, and as most teenagers, she makes stupid decisions that will put her or the ones she loves at risk. Will she be able to succeed in overcoming the perks of having reached eighteen without surrendering herself in mind, body and soul to the First, the one she's fated to?
I guess there's just one way to find out...

My review can also be found on my blog .

Oh Aiden Aiden Aiden... I didn't need this novella to convince me that Aiden is amazing and badass and the one for Alex. Because I already knew all this the moment he stepped back into Alex's life in Half-Blood, the first novel in the series. But I did desperately need this novella for my much needed Aiden fix AND to calm my nerves after reading the epicness that was Deity, which by the way ended on a huge cliffhanger! You can read my review for that book .

Elixir begins where Deity, the third novel in the Covenant series, ended. (So, if you haven't read Deity, DO NOT read Elixir! It's going to majorly spoil Deity for you, and I promise you wouldn't want that.) If Deity left you traumatized and dying for the fourth novel Apollyon, be sure to read Elixir. You'll find out exactly what happened after the closing scene in Deity. This novella may only be 80 pages long, but it's packed with everything you expect to find in a Jennifer L. Armentrout novel. Character development, surprising revelations, and of course, romance.

What makes Elixir even better is that ALL of it is from Aiden's POV. And if you haven't already realized, I think he's the best male character in the series, and he's also one of my favorite male characters ever. He's intense, sweet, protective, and sexy. Seriously, I love Aiden to pieces. There was a part in the novella where he spoke Greek and holy crap... I don't even know how to read or speak Greek, but when he spoke that language... I was swooning like crazy. SO FREAKING HOT. The scene where it occurred actually wasn't a happy moment for him though. Throughout Elixir, you can feel how heartbroken and desperate he was to save Alex. He really would do anything for her, even sacrificing himself. He continues proving himself again and again, and I hope he gets the ending he undoubtedly deserves.

Elixir is a must read for Covenant fans, especially Aiden fans! It eased the pain of waiting for Apollyon just a bit, and it left me even more curious about how things will work out in that novel. Hopefully all the Aiden action we got in Deity and this novella continues into the final books of the series because he is truly an amazing character and person. I can't get enough of him!

Elixir is #3.5 in the Covenant series by Jennifer Armentrout. This novella is completely in Aiden’s point of view. But unlike novellas in other series, this one is completely part of the series, taking up immediately where Deity left off.

Alex has awakened, and immediately connected with Seth. Her biggest fear came true, she lost herself. Aiden will do anything to save her and is forced to make a decision he never thought he would face in order to.

“Please come back to me, Alex. Please. I love you too much to lose you. And I love you too much to allow what’s about to happen, but you’re leaving me no choice.

I loved getting inside Aiden’s head. It is a beautiful place to be. Every misgiving I originally had about him is long long gone. Aiden is in love with Alex. She is his first priority, last, and everything in between. The depth of his feelings even shocked me in this book! What he has to do broke my heart into a million tiny pieces. But his faith and hope that he will find a way to break the connection with Seth kept me going.

“I would burn down the world if that meant Alex would be safe.

The Gods want a war. Seth and Lucian want power. The Halfs want equality. With all this hanging in the balance, is there hope that Aiden can find a way to save Alex? I’m on to the next book to find out. I hope my own heart can take it. If you are planning to read this series or are reading it, make sure you include this short book. It most definitely is part of the sequence of events and is important.

First of all, READ DEITY BEFRORE YOU READ THIS LITTLE GEM!!!!

So holy crap! If I wasn't already in love with this series after reading Deity, this novella just took the cake then. Oh gods, my head is so full of emotions. Aiden. Oh Aiden you are truly the most remarkable character I've ever come to know. I really loved this little bit from our beloved Pure's POV. He really is pure....okay well in his own words...."Saint Delphi, my ass." Yes, you really are a saint in my eyes. Gods, the shit he had to endure in this book was so heartbreaking. I cried so much because of his suffering, anguish, despair, guilt. I enjoyed being inside his vulnerable and beautiful mind. Oh the love he has for Alex is so admirable and sweet. I really loved it.

Alex. Oh Alex, at first I wanted to ring your neck. I was so upset with the hurtful words...but then realizing that you were being controlled-making you say such hurtful things to our beloved...nearly unhinged me. I had to remind myself..."Its not Alex. It's not Alex. She'd never say that. She'd never do that. It's not Alex." Over and over until it stuck. Then later in the book, I just cried for you. I was so sad to see you so broken, a shell really. I know there is hope for you. I have faith.

Oh then the rest of the gang; Apollo, Marcus, Deacon, Luke, Solos...even Lea. The way you guys stuck together was wonderful and filled my heart with joy. Oh gods I do love this series the best. Well, the best JLA series that is. It comes close in my top though.

And one of my favorite parts too was during that sweet moment between Deacon and Aiden. I love their relationship and how it seems to be stronger. Aiden, the older brother watching out for Deacon. So awesome! I am so Team DUKE!!!!
But honestly, this was a masterpiece novella....the best I've read in the history of novellas. Ahhhhhh next spring can't come soon enough....I'm starving for Apollyon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!

OMG! What was I thinking when I said I was #TeamSeth for Alex? No, hell NO! Aiden is the one and will always be the one for her! Oh my, I truly need a man like Aiden in my life. Someone as caring and thoughtful as him. Someone who is ready to fight the world for me 🥰
Love is beautiful. Love is always the answer, no matter what the question is..

MY GOD! This is me while reading the book:

I know. I look a little silly.

DO NOT read Elixir if you haven't read Deity! It will be a huuuuge spoiler!

Now that we've cleared that, let us get back to the book. One word to describe it: breathtaking. You can imagine a list of similar adjectives that will surely do justice to the book.

In Deity, we get a few glimpses from Aiden's POV, which as expected, leaves us all swooning and drooling, not a very ladylike behaviour as one might say, but WHO THE HELL CARES?? We're talking about Aiden here!! One can't read about him without her hormones going wild and Elixir is proof to that.
In this book, we see both Aiden and Alex fighting their destiny with all they have and you can truly feel their love(JLA made sure of that- here's a chocolate chip cookie for you!). Aiden is willing to sacrifice himself and everything he has ever come to know in order to save Alex from Seth, the gods and even from herself. As he is the only one that truly believes in Alex, he's the only one who will fight everyone in order to protect her.

The story shows us how both of them truly come to terms with their feelings, regardless of society norms. They surpass the prejudices completely, but really, who would care about them when their life is threatened? Survival mode on! But to get back on topic, they love each other and that's that. Do I hear a Hallelujah??? Aiden's so much more at ease with displaying his feelings for Alex and we get pleeeeenty of said displays, which, needless to say, will leave us wistful and daydreaming for our personal Aiden. Really, who wouldn't want a drop-dead gorgeous guy, with a protective streak, a bit of the good ol' wit and a dash of common sense?? *giggle*

The story is very fast-paced. It wouldn't be a J.L. Armentrout novel if it were otherwise. The writing is flawless and I was quite surprised at how the the story unfolds seeing that it has only 80 pages. Nonetheless, it grips you with such a force, that you'll not be able to put it down once you start it!

Emotionally speaking, you'll be overwhelmed. To be honest, you'll be mostly in pain. Why? Because Aiden will be too! Now, this wasn't meant to frighten you in any way, just to emphasize the fact that you'll hold your breath more often than not, since you'll experience the book through Aiden's intensity. And since you've read Deity, you know these aren't happy-happy, joy-joy times.
Actually, there was, in my opinion, the most heartbreaking moment of the series: Aiden has to make a devastating compromise that might jeopardize his very soul and his relationship with Alex. It's as fascinating as it is sorrowful to watch both characters battle with reality and the threats of war.

I gave it 4 stars, because I didn't feel an instant connection with it. I know, I know, it sounds weird as hell.. and very much inane. But unlike the other 3 books, this one didn't pick up my interest from the very first page. Of course, you'll wonder how's that possible? I mean, this is St. Delphi we're talking about! I cannot explain it, but it's merely my opinion. It obviously doesn't make the book any less than it's cracked up to be and again, this is just a personal point of view. It depends solely on the reader and their perception of the series so far.

Anypoo, the cliffhanger will leave you, well, hangin'. But, it's worth the wait. I recommend the series wholeheartedly to all YA lovers out there!

P.S. A bit of eye-candy. This is how I pictured Aiden:

2. okuma

If you've read any of my reviews for previous installments of this series, you'll know where I stand and why I feel torn about even reading the series. In my last review, I opted out of saying much in favor of just shelving the book as read, but man, it's hard when I can't not compare. However, my curiosity to know how everything turns out won't allow me to quit reading.

Moving on. I'm a sucker for a male PoV, and this novella is in Aiden's PoV. It was sweet to see how he internalized his feelings for Alex. If you are continuing on with this series, this story is going to fill in a pretty big gap between books 3 and 4, so you'll probably need to read this.

The similarities issue...series vs. series, this one followed the second half of book 4 of VA. Spoilers for this novella and book 4 of VA for my comparison.

If we stay on the same pattern, chances are we'll be seeing characters mirroring Sydney and Abe in book 4, which wouldn't be a big surprise, since in book 3

Also, this isn't as big of a similarity, but I do find it interesting that there was an emphasis put on

Yay, I've managed to make it through 2 reviews for these books and remain fairly zen. :)

“Saint Delphi my ass.

Well, bookworms everywhere who haven't read The Covenant series by JLA yet... Have you ever read something hauntingly good? A series that plays with your feelings on a regular basis? A story with such intense twists and huge sacrifices that leaves you breathless? That makes your heart flutter, your eyes water and your whole body just go Rambo at some particular scenes? Let me just say -- you just think you did. Because you don't experience true sadness and kick-ass emotional rides until you read these books. So I suggest you start with Half-Blood, read the prequel novella entitled Daimon and continue with Pure and Deity. Only after you've read Deity start Elixir.

Jennifer did it again. I'm amazed. I don't know if it's even possible to love and admire a character's strenght as much as I love Aidens. We see him completely shattered, at the edge of tearing himself apart, consumed by guilt and regret. And I must say: I'm heartbroken. And trust me: I'm kicking myself here because I was actually on Team Seth until Deity. How the hell could I have been so so wrong? Regardless, I fell in love with Aiden once more and I don't regret a single word I read from this wonderfully written story.

And oh, daimon babies everywhere! We're faced with a mind-blowing revelation from Apollo and an earth-shattering sacrifice. Alex's situation really left me numb.

“Alex, you have to be in there. I know you. My heart would not be beating if you were truly gone.

The obscenities she screamed at Aiden in the beginning made me gasp in shock, because there's no way she would've said that. All those details in her behavior made me appreciate her real personality even more and support her through this earth-shattering journey that awaits her. And I just want that certain little bastard that Aiden kept mentioning out of her head FOREVER.

I also think Marcus became one of my favorite characters from this series since Deity. His affection for his niece is heart-warming. And Solos, Luke, Lea and Deacon are great secondary characters too. Apollo has attached himself in my heart, don't worry, but I'm concerned about his possible actions after Aiden's last decision.

There is one other thing I find utterly swoon worthy about the romance between Alex and Aiden: it stays true under any circumstances and it only gives them more strenght, power and, the most important of them all, hope. Every (sane) reader that enjoyed this novella also realized that their love is impossible to restrain. Alex made a great declaration to Aiden that had me sobbing for their harsh reality the outside scene, anyone?

“I feel it in here," she said, placing her hand against her chest and then against her stomach, "and here. It’s like there’s not enough air or room inside me. That I may burst out of my skin or drown in it, and that wouldn’t be a bad thing. I don’t know why I feel this way, but I always have and will." She tipped her chin up and her entire face was a rosy color. "It’s you. I I love you.

Loved the fact that new gods were introduced to us. Great novella, a must-read if you want to understand what will happen in Apollyon. Gorgeously written, gut wrenching and intense, this short glimpse of Aiden's POV wraps beautifully in the whole other-wordly atmosphere.

“Love is such a wild and reckless creature. It cannot be planned or threaded. It cannot be controlled. Love can coexist with Fate, or it can undo it. Love is the only thing more powerful than Fate.

If you thought that you'll need Apollyon after Deity, then you were wrong. You'll NEED to read the fourth book in this freaking awesome series when you're done with Elixir. But here's something you definitely need to know: Apollyon doesn't come out until April. So yeah, bring on the torture.

“The gods wanted war?
They were about to get it.

ENJOY!

~happy sigh~ This was exactly what I needed! I haven't been reading much lately, but if anyone could get me excited about books again, it's JLA baby!

Aiden is absolutely freaken amazing and such a beautiful beautiful man inside and out. You could feel his desperation and pain right down to your very core. It broke my heart for what Aiden had to do and it broke my heart to see Alex the way she was.

This is the ultimate love story about faith, love and hope and I'm right there with Aiden when it comes time to read Apollyon, fighting against all odds.

Elixir is an absolute must read for fans of the Covenant series. It's sweet and sad and just gorgeously done. Can't wait to own it for my collection!!

Special thanks to Spencer Hill Press!

5/5

This is the book that comes between Deity and Apollyon. When I started to read Apollyon (thinking that this book wasn't necessary) I was very confused and realized that I had to read this one before hand. I did and it explained a lot of the answers so you should definitely read it first.
Elixir is told from Aiden's perspective and I loved being inside his head seeing what he was going through and his views of Alex and everything that was going on. There was action in this shorter novella and it seemed to be a bridge to get readers more excited and desperate to read the 4th book in the Covenant series. It worked for me and I'm off to read it now.

*** If you have NOT read Deity, DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW.***

Seriously, it’ll spoil Deity for you. So unless you’re the kind of person who reads the last page first , you really don’t want to be here.

Still here? Ok, you’ve been sufficiently warned. Starting in 3 2 1

After that jaw-dropper of a cliffhanger in Deity, I’ve been dying to find out what happens next. I’m pretty sure I could’ve survived (though just barely) not knowing what happens to Alex & Co. until Apollyon. I could’ve done it with the help of multiple rereadings, bulk packages of tissues, endless pints of mint chocolate chip, and a self-imposed, home remedy for nail biting. Maybe. But did I want to?

Um that would be a “No. No, I want to know more now.

Guess what? Wish granted. Elixir has arrived, and thank you, thank you, thank you, Jennifer, for giving your readers a little something extra to hold onto until next we meet up with the Covenant gang.

As you might remember from my Deity review, snarky, tough, smart-mouthed, completely rash Alex took a while to grow on me in this series. I always liked her enough, but it wasn’t until Deity that I fell in love with her character. She matured, she thought before she acted, she was sacrificial and used better judgment, while still retaining that essential spark that makes her so lovably Alex. From Half-Blood to Deity, her maturation as a character is just so well done and organic. It might sound strange, but if I hadn’t been so “eh… about her character in the beginning, I’m not sure I’d love her as much as I do now.

However, now fully awakened as the Apollyon, that Alex is virtually unrecognizable, and it appears as though her greatest fear about awakening to her powers, completing her connection to Seth, may not be wholly unfounded. As her friends and loved ones witness her transformation, they know they must find a way to break her connection to the First. But when it becomes clear that they must choose between one unforgivable course of action or another, Aiden must choose between his love for Alex and his duty to the gods.

I love that this novella was from Aiden’s point of view. Finally! We get a glimpse inside his head! Aiden’s a hard nut to crack. He’s so outwardly steady, stoic it’s really hard to ruffle Aiden St. Delphi’s feathers. Then along comes the one person who manages to do it on an almost daily basis Alex. The depth of his feelings for Alex, the lengths to which he’s willing to go to keep her safe, his grief, his alternating moments of hope and hopelessness, his anger, his protectiveness, even his infuriating self-discipline it all speaks volumes as to just what Alex means to him, and I loved seeing just how he feels for her firsthand. It’s absolutely adorable but also extremely heartbreaking, and I, for one, hope there will be many more Aiden POVs

I know there have been mentions of how “boring Aiden is compared to Seth an opinion which I’ve never really understood. But after being in his head in this little novella, I’m not sure how anyone could ever think that again. Whatever else Aiden may be, boring isn’t it. More like “Bone-Meltingly Dreamy, Super Kick-Butt Sentinel of Awesome. I didn’t think it was possible to fall more in love with Aiden. I was wrong.

Overall, with a title that foreshadows the dark and ominous, Elixir more than delivers on that promise while also giving readers a tiny but bright sliver of hope to grab on to, amping up the drama, and ultimately setting the stage for Apollyon.

**Please note there are spoilers for Deity in this review

Oh. My. Gods! There are no words to describe just how excited I am to have read this novella. It is no surprise to anyone just how much of an enormous fan of Jennifer L Armentrout I am. She is without a doubt my favourite author of all time and there is nothing she can write that I will not completely obsess over. Add to that the fact that Covenant is my favourite series of all time and I am completely and utterly head-over-heels in love with Aiden it's accurate to say I was VERY excited to read Elixir. Yes... I screamed and jumped up and down as soon as I got it.

Aiden will do anything for Alex. Even fight the Gods. So when the only way to find a way to save her and bring back the real Alex is to do the one thing he always swore he would never let happen Aiden is torn. Is he willing to break his word to save her? And if she ever gets back to normal will she be able to forgive him? Aiden is willing to do anything for her. Even if it means fighting the Gods.

Ever since I first heard of Aiden's novella I could not wait for it. I heard about Aiden's novella after I had just read Pure and although we still had book 3 in the series, Deity to come I couldn't help but be over-excited and counting down the days until I could read Elixir. Aiden is without a doubt my avoruite fictional boy EVER! He beats everyone so to get this novella from Aiden's point of view I couldn't wait. I was so excited to finally get inside that boys head and find out his thoughts and feelings about everything. Jennifer L Armentrout definitely does not disappoint with this. I read it in one sitting and stayed up all night reading as I just couldn't put it down.

There are so many twists and turns in this book I couldn't keep up. After reading Deity I was speculating what could happen in Elixir and had many theories of what was going to happen. None of them were correct I was completely blown away and gobsmacked by what happened and I was so addicted to this book and dying to find out what was going to happen I just couldn't put it down. I needed to know what was going to happen.

I thought after Deity there was no way I could love Aiden more. He is just perfect and sweet and everything any girl will fall in love with. I love Aiden so much and I thought no way could I fall even more in love with him. I was definitely wrong. I fell even more head-over-heels in love with Aiden during Elixir. He is just amazing and me heart hurt so much for him. I was in tears so many times throughout this novella. It is such a hard, emotional journey for Aiden and it is definitely heartwrnching. I loved every single second of this book and it was way too short and was over way too fast. I want more Aiden, that's for sure.

The ending totally blew me away and the last sentence in this novella literally gave me chills. I had goosebumps all over my arms and was left going *gasp* I need Apollyon NOW! I am dying to read Apollyon. I seriously cannot wait. One thing I know for sure is that Apollyon is going to be phenomenal and I now have lots of conspiracies flying around my head on what could happen in Apollyon. Elixir was without a doubt phenomenal and I think it may be my favourite book in the series, join with Deity. I absolutely loved it and I am left reeling dying to read Apollyon.

It was phenomenal and this is a must-read series for everyone. It blew me away and it was full of epic awesomeness.

When I first found out that there would be Aiden's point of view novella, I thought it would be some kind of "thank you" or gift from author to her readers who love Aiden and Covenant series. But Elixir was so much more. Aiden's point of view was definitely needed for the sake of storyline development and to be in his head was incredible. He is exactly a person Alex always thought he was, if not better. I have always been Team Aiden girl all the way but now my love for him is even stronger.
My Aiden:

Even though this was only short read, so much has happened. Readers will find out new info about whole Apollyon thing, new Gods were introduced, couple of emotional scenes took place and much much more. If this is only a glimpse of what is coming in , I seriously cannot wait!

Simply amazing,
I loved being inside Aiden's head. It's official, now I'm 60% Team Aiden and 40% Team Seth (For now, things may change).
Is it weird that I found freaky Alex amusing? I was laughing most of the time.
Great book! Can't get enough of this series. Off to "Apollyon" !!! Woop.

AIDEN HAS SEEN THE LIGHT PEOPLE!
He has finally fucking answered my prayers guys!

HE SAID I LOVE YOU TO ALEX. Which she obviously said back because that bitch was on the love train way before his ass. I'm so fucking happy right now. I love novellas. I love love. I seriously can't wait to read about this kick ass fight to go down between Aiden and Seth. I'm team Aiden obviously. I can't wait.

Loved reading from Aiden's point of view and his devotion to Alex is beyond doubt. It's certainly getting creepy with Seth and I'm so afraid for Alex, I hope she is strong enough to overcome and break the connection. Difficult to read of her change under the elixir. Strong writing, another great read from Jennifer L. Armentrout.

“Love is such a wild and reckless creature. It cannot be planned or threaded. It cannot be controlled. Love can coexist with Fate, or it can undo it. Love is the only thing more powerful than Fate.

Aaaaahhh, is there anything better than a novella to give us more insight into a favourite series? Oh yes! A novella from the hero’s POV. SQUEEEEEE!! Yes, that’s right, it’s Aiden time, baby!!!

This was a great little read that relieved me of my tension after the cliffhanger that ended . I now know what happened to Alex . And OMG was it heartbreaking to read. One scene in particular was brutal. I may or may not have even rocked back and forth while reading chanting ‘oh my God, oh my God.

But through it all, Aiden and his love for Alex absolutely shone through.

"Please come back to me, Alex. Please. I love you too much to lose you."

He was so shattered by what she was going through, and yet he never gave up hope. His absolutely focussed determination to protect her and help her was just amazing. And with his small gang along to help Marcus, Deacon (love him), Luke, Lea, Solos and Apollo (love him too), he doesn’t hide his love for Alex, which is absolutely forbidden in their world. He is there for her 100% and he shows that he’s going to do whatever it takes to save his girl.

"It’s love the real kind you make sacrifices for. The kind where you scream ‘screw it to everyone else."

God, could this man be any more perfect???

For Alex, and the world in general, the stage is being set for the battle to come, and I’m even more excited for the next instalment now. April cannot come quick enough!

5 elixir stars!

Usually not big on novellas as they are short and you don't get much story but this one packed a punch!

Told completely from Aiden's POV it was brilliant. The emotions and feelings it evoked from me was shocking. You feel Aiden's love for Alex and his struggle to face that he may never see or feel the real her again.

Seth and Alex are connected and all she wants is to join with him and destroy the gods. It is chilling and so hard to see Alex go through all this shit.

Seriously though I freaking hate Seth! I want to stab him! I am still baffled at how anyone can be team Seth!

Aiden stays strong and he will give or do anything to break the connection and get Alex back.... This is the time for war and he will fight till the death to get her back because without her he can't live! True love right there folks!
