So, as always, I must advise those of you who have not read the series to read them, starting with volume one. Also, be forward about reading this review as it may not make much sense if you have not read previous volumes. It is very focused on character story, growth and change.
So in this volume, Ren continues to spiral further into his past as he delves deeper into his role as Cain/BJ. Kyoko is not sure whom is facing anymore: Ren, BJ, Cain, or...someone else. This also has her in a state of confusion about staying in her role as Cain's sister or be herself confronting Ren.
This volume had me bouncing in my seat, wanting to read the next volume. This darkness we get to see has me seriously questioning Ren's past. And how did he clean up so nicely?!Aiyee! Must have more!!!!
Why!!!! please tell me why they don't publish it weekly. It's such great story and the art is excellent. And the main thing is that after all this years the QUALITY didn't slip. Unlike some other longlived mangas The STORY AND ART ARE STILL EXCELLENT!!!!!!!
There is something uniquely funny about this series. I'm immensely pleased that I chose this read this :). Kyoko is so remarkably funny, not just with her varyingly intense expressions and emotions, but her skills as an actor. It's so funny.
Okay, an improvement over the last volume, but I still have so many unanswered questions ;u;
We got some more "Kuon" (...I think) flashbacks, where Ren/Kuon seemed to for some reason REALLY enjoy beating the shit out of people, and it seems that that Kuon was somehow brought to the surface during Cain's performance as BJ (...I swear, trying to review this series is hard as anything due to all the different names that all the different characters go by XD I mean... Ren = Kuon = Cain = BJ @_@) but I just... I want to know MORE dammit. What exactly happened in Ren/Kuon's past? ;u;
And of course we HAD to end on a cliffhanger after telling the reader NOTHING. DANG IT.
...onto the next volume. ASAP.

How long is too long for a manga series? That's what I'm starting to wonder with several of the series that I'm reading right now. It's not that Skip Beat is languishing exactly. Kyoko has finally figured out that she likes Ren - but it took 28 volumes to get there! I fear we're going to have another 28 volumes before they finally get together.
At least the plot is still changing. It's not necessarily moving forward, but things are happening to keep me entertained. Kyoko and Ren are fully immersed in the edgy Heel sibling roles, both on and off screen. Kyoko is the scantily clad, much pierced little sister of Cain Heel. They've quickly managed to antagonize and intimidate Ren's co-stars, particularly a juvenile delinquent turned actor.
Ren and the former Yanki (Japanese term for juvenile delinquent) push each other's buttons. The Yanki (I can't remember his name) thinks too highly of himself and is sure Ren/Cain Heel is all show. To his surprise, Ren is not all show. He's a skilled and experienced fighter. Meanwhile, Ren is fighting himself more than anyone else. We learn that Ren has a somewhat violent past as an American teen. Acting is an opportunity to truly become a different person. But it's a constant battle between Ren and Kuon.
On a side note, I miss Sho. I really hope he shows up in upcoming volumes.
This volume was all about Ren. Or should we call him Cain? Or BJ? Or Kuon? Half the time, we didn't know who he actually was, and neither did he. The interesting thing is that by this point, Kyoko knows him so well that, even though she doesn't know who Kuon is, she could tell Ren wasn't himself or Cain or even BJ. She could tell he was controlled by some other being, and in the end, that he needed her, whoever he was.
Ultimately, finding out how and why Ren is shaped by his past is important to the story, and to his relationship with Kyoko. I just wish it wasn't so sad. And I wish it wasn't so confusing. I want him to just sit down with Kyoko and explain everything to her. At one point, she would have freaked out, but I think by now, she would be a big comfort to him. She already slept in his arms to calm him down, for goodness sake! And everyone that knows Kyoko knows how big of a deal that is to her.

Is Ren acting...and if he is, which part is an act? Cain? BJ? Is it possible the answer might be "none of the above"? My heart breaks for him...love Kyoko's response....
Today's manga post is on Skip Beat!, Vol. 30 Yoshiki Nakamura. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kyoko and Ren on it all dressed up. As it is the thirty volume in the series, you need to have read the previous twenty-nine volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this volume. The story is third person close following the main characters mostly. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Ren*s new cast mate Taira Murasame used to be a biker, and he sees show biz as just another gang to get to the top of. Normally Ren would have no problem dealing with a punk, but his role as BJ requires him to tap his darkest depths. When Murasame and Ren have to fight on camera, can Ren remember that it*s only acting?!
Review- This volume is mostly about Ren and him dealing with how this role is making him remember his past. But there is also him getting into the role both on set and alone with Kyoko. Kyoko is a little worried about him because she is so in tune with Ren and his feelings. The rest of the volume is the normal over the top humor. Ren getting into a 'real' fight with Murasame, Kyoko being Setsu and causing some mild drama. I am really enjoying this silly arc with both Kyoko and Ren pretending to be this weird, tough siblings. But it is also nice to get some background trauma for Ren when he lived in America. I look forward to seeing what nonsense they are going to get into next.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Still playing the Heel twins, Setsu and Cain, Kyoko starts to worry about Ren, who is he playing when she was fighting with this cast mate. She begins to wonder who was controlling his body if it was Cain or Ren. Cain asks her to sleep next to him once she returns from the store, but she is unable to sleep until being so close to him. She wonders if there is some darkness inside Ren too. Ren is started to doubt who he is and when. Is he fully becomes Cain then Kuon will come out. Then what happens? Will he snap out of it before or will it be too late.
Kyoko calls Yashiro is hopes of finding what is going on with Ren but the calls drops after ten seconds.
The next person she is calls is Lory, who appears to have been waiting for her call.
I adored this squeal I read it not long ago but I decided to reread it, it*s always nice to reread a series that you adored when you were younger and this was it o borrowed it from my local library, and I*m very grateful to continue but I will be devastated to finish the series but will forever love it.
I didn't understand this volume very well, but perhaps that's my difficulty. Ren has a 'gangster' past that unconsciously resurfaces like a conflagration that overwhelms everything in his path. Every now and then the tenderness he feels for Kyoko returns.
Every moment solidly reinforces we're on the Ren Tsuruga pain train. He's immersing himself in a killer role to test himself and exorcize his demons. Kyoko is along for the ride because he's come to rely on her as his happy thought. But the scene stealer is the new costar Murasame.
