Nikolai Haitov (Bulgarian: 袧懈泻芯谢邪泄 啸邪泄褌芯胁) was a Bulgarian fiction writer, playwright, patriot and publicist known for his publications and research regarding the life of Bulgarian revolutioner Vasil Levski.
A collection of amazing short stories inspired by the way Bulgarians think and act. Tales of Love, Betrayal, Friendship, Corruption...All them are perfectly valid for today. Incredible !!! A must read !
The bottom line when it comes to literature. An ode to the mediocrity of 20th century bulgarian writers. This book being dubbed a 'classic' is a deeply saddening yet irrevirsible event. You should read it and try to find something good about it
Haitov's "Wild Tales" is a collection that, while vividly capturing the essence of a specific cultural and historical context, ultimately falls short due to its overtly sexist and conservative undertones and preachy narrative style that glorifies a backward, patriarchal world. Every narrator is a man, living in a society ruled by violence, honor, and outdated traditions. Women are mere props, serving only to stir men's passions and provide a stage for male bravado.
Shockingly, the translator's introduction celebrates this sexism, framing the male-dominated narratives as a proud reflection of cultural values.
"Wild Tales" isn't just a product of its time; it endorses oppressive values that feel more alienating than enlightening. It's a relic better left in the past.
