The six friends share memories of the summer of 1983, when troubles with their families and three bullies strengthened their bond and changed their lives forever. Fifteen years later, in the midst of their happy reunion, they are reacquainted with their childhood bullies: the sadistic Jordan brothers. Theresa and her friends must pull together in order to survive the present, while facing their darkest memories of the past.

A Whole New Meaning to "Dog Days of Summer"

I chose thus book because of its interesting synopsis. I relate well to lead female character Theresa. I was also relentlessly bullied as a child & it has had an affect on how I view the world & the people in it. Sometimes it's to difficult to trust; I feel socially awkward & other times, those days haunt me like a never ending story. Although Theresa & I have several things in common, I, nor my sister (**POSSIBLE SPOILER**) grew up in an abusive household, our parents did NOT abuse us, physically or otherwise. Aside from being bullied mercilessly, she & I had a fairly normal childhood, unlike Theresa who endured abuse, trauma, bullying - the bullies even attempted to take her life - literally.

However, Theresa & her friends grew up & matured; unfortunately, their childhood bullies didn't - rage had built up even more, they were all the more violent & cruel. Having some understanding if human behavior, I understand why the bullies never changed, but it still does NOT excuse their behaviors. Like Theresa, I would want to seek revenge too.

I like & respect Theresa, she is an intelligent, strong young woman. I'm not sure I would have survived all that she endured. As morbid as it may sound, I want to read the remaining books in this series. In want to see what the future holds for Theresa & her friends.... or whomever the author writes about. This was a great group of characters, it's almost as if I knew them.

I think Beth was the lesson that everyone person should learn from. And the strength of Theresa even though she made a lot of wrong choices in how to handle. The book was an interesting read. Invoked anger with the characters for years of inaction.

Dog Days of Summer is the first in a series set in the 1980's...memories of a long lost unhappy childhood mixed in with mystery and mayhem. While I enjoyed the writing style I had difficulty with the haphazard way the story comes together. In the end, I'd like to read the next in the series...just out of curiosity.

Heartbreaking story

Well written but oh so sad. People can be so cruel. The five of the six main characters are amazing in spite of the lives they never asked to be born into. The bullies caused tragedy but beth the sixth main character caused equal if not more. She has no sense of reality. Ugh I wanted to scream at her.

While this book was good, it was also extremely distressing. I do not think I have ever read so many misfortunes related to one group of people.

Not bad, not good. Just there. Too many coincidences. Too many times the villain gets away.
