This is a very nice read. The story evolves around the lives of two Egyptian boys from their very young age to their elder years. The key parameter in their lives is that they are very good with numbers and enjoy solving math problems. There is however a very interesting twist compared to other math-themed novels. It takes place in ancient Egypt where math was at a very early stage of development. Therefore, it was quite interesting to see the main characters identify and tangle with problems that were proven or solved by mathematicians many centuries later, e.g. they try to estimate the third side of a triangle without using the pythagorean theorem. The most interesting part of the book for me was that Tefkros Michaelides did an amazing research work with regards to the everyday life in Egypt as well as their calculation methods. The atmosphere and setting are amazing making the reader take a journey to ancient Egypt. Really makes want to visit these places. Finally, as always, the main characters demonstrate an enormous love for numbers and math while politics and all the competitive aspects of common people leave them quite uninterested.
Bottomline: A very nice read that will get you engaged and give a very nice insight on the ancient Egyptian civilization and culture.
