I swear to God, this book should come with a care package tequila, Valium, a stress ball and a punching bag. Just sayin !!

This review has no plot-related spoilers in it. Rating: 4.5 stars.

Honestly, when I was about to start reading this, I was just wondering where on EARTH could the story go from that point?? How could the mindfuck POSSIBLY get any deeper?

The facts were there. Actions had been taken. And I was absolutely positive that I hated Tony Rawlings. Like really, really hated!! I was sure he belonged in a jail cell and no where else. I mean looooook what he did! Right? Riiiight??

WRONG.

Le sigh *deep breath*

Over the course of this book, my emotions were toyed with, and my heart was lead down a path I would have SWORN it would never go down.

I have to say that, having finished the book, I am officially on Team Tony ((I think)).

Whaaaat?? O_O

I’m sure any of you who have only read book #1 think I’m utterly insane now. I’m not. I swear. Just stuff happened. Big stuff. Changes. Growth. An understanding. And in the end, I have to say that, honestly, I’m not 100% sold on the Team Tony thing, but I’m about 95% there. Honestly, I don’t think there is ANYTHING in the entire world that will EVER make me able to be 100% in love with him. Why? Because of what he did in Consequences.

Having read Truth, I feel like I’ve come to have a deeper understanding for him. And a respect for the changes he made. BUT. Nothing can ever erase the past. The future can still be determined, but the past is fixed. And because of that, no matter WHAT he does, there will always be a small 5% of me on guard because I *know* that somewhere in that man lies (or, lay) the potential to make the events of Consequences happen. But so long as those old actions never resurface, I am willing to be open-minded and accept the new Tony for who he is.

So, I’ll revise my statement. I am officially Team (new) Tony . That is my team. #teamNEWtony

“Love and hate are very close emotions. Both intense and consuming

“Could it be possible to hate and love someone too?

I have to say that Ms Romig is an very talented author not only because the story is good, but in large part its because of the actual writing style its an extremely well written book.

Did I dread going into this book? Yeah. A little. I wasn’t sure how far the mind fuck would go. Or if I was ready to handle it. But I bravely put my big girl panties on and dove in and seriously, woah!

There’s no ‘easing into this book. Nope! The prologue pretty much just slams you into the story and away you go its a roller coaster ride of questions, more questions, the occasional answer, which in turn leads to more questions I will say though, that we did make some big ‘discoveries in this book. It kept me guessing but I was pleased to see some of my theories work out too.

I was just in this constant state of Wait, could it be him who did that? But then, why would he have done the other thing?? Hmmm *wonders* . Its this complete feeling of not knowing which way is up. Not being able to tell right from wrong.

Do the ends justify the means? I felt myself constantly asking myself that.

After the events of the last book, I’d become jumpy and deeply mistrustful . Of everyone. Now, every single thing was squinted at suspiciously, every possible action was eyed from all angles to try and figure out if it had a double meaning or a hidden purpose.

I have to say that, as a romance reader, I am usually either bored to tears by the ‘mystery side of stories but that was NOT the case with this one. I was really riveted to the story. It was so multi layered and multi dimensional with so many possibilities and outcomes that I found myself just needing to know the answers.

That being said, I will say that this book “felt long . Its not a bad thing, or a complaint, but I found it a longer book to get through than the first one. Kind of like with book #1, I reached a point around 60% in where I was definitely intrigued and invested in the story, but no longer had any idea where it was going. But once again, once I got to the final 20% I just couldn’t look away!!

This story had double layers to everything. The double layers even had layers it was this spiral downward into more and more questions……

I don’t know how to explain how HARD the little reveals hit me. Every time we actually learned something that was a fact, a definitive piece to the puzzle, I got that same full body CHILLLLLLS feeling. It was pretty cool

I liked that we got bits and pieces from all sorts of perspectives in this book. It was still primarily Claire’s story, but there was a LOT of back story into Tony’s early years that gave us a much better understanding of him and the complexity of where the plot originated (gosh, that’s vague, lol), and there were some side characters that got their perspective told to help round out the story as well.

Tony’s back story was one of my favorite parts because we got to see the life events that made him into the kind of person he was. I found it gave a lot of insight into his character and, although it didn’t excuse any of his actions, it DID help me understand him more.

I liked that in this book we got to see more of Claire’s strength shine though. She’d been through hell and now, despite her traumas was at a place where she was regaining a measure of control over her life. She was brave and smart about many things but there were still some moments of naivety where I wanted to shake her, moments where I couldn’t understand *why* she’d go along with something or make the decisions she made. She frustrated me in places but I got to a place where I felt I understood her a lot more.

And then there was Harry. The anti-Tony. Was I in love with him? Hmmm, a little bit. Ok, fine, a lot. And I think that if Tony hadn’t changed, I would have loved him more. But gah, I mean, he was kind of perfect. And I totally could see myself falling for him. I was soooooooo tempted by him! So. Freaking. Tempted!! but the sick twisted part of my mind is grumbling over the fact that he’s just not Tony so even though, I will admit, there was a chunk of the book where I kind of was rooting for him, my heart ended up choosing Tony.

About Tony though.. *deep breath* I really felt like my emotions went though a long journey with him in this book. In my heart, I wanted to ‘fix him. Tried to justify things. But my brain thankfully kept stepping in and reminding me of everything he’d done in book #1 (and even, to an extent, book #2). I mean, where is the line drawn? The line after which the guy is just too fucked up to fix? Had he crossed it? well, yes. But could he still change? Well apparently so!

He toyed with my emotions again in this book though because just when I thought he was turning over a new leaf, he’d AGAIN go overboard and leave me spluttering and wanting to throttle him.

I couldn’t tell if he was still being manipulative or if I should try and forgive him Was he even WORTHY of forgiveness? His actions in book #1 were unforgivable in my eyes.

What if this was the story of the attempted redemption of an irredeemable man?

I wanted to love him. I loved his spark. I loved his intentions but actions speak louder than words and a lot of his were just MESSED up. Not. Okay. There are some things you just can’t justify. But what if its not about justification. What if it was about change? He WAS trying. That was impossible to deny. But was the change enough?

Love should never be forced. Or bought. Or coerced but what happens when you’re faced with someone who doesn’t know HOW to love. Who has never known it. Never been shown it. And never experienced it. Who had wrapped himself in a security blanket of control. Given his back story, I could see where his dominance came from he had such a deepseeded insecurity and fear stemming form a lack of a love and a fear of the loss of the only shred of love he’s ever know that his actions were, to me, for the first time, understandable as opopsed to flat-out crazy (even though I still didn’t agree with them all).

He just didn’t know HOW to love having never really BEEN loved ever.

There was a turning point. A definitive turning point after which the change he made in himself was undeniable. He tempered himself, controlled himself and was put in many situations where he had the opportunity to go all old-Tony-psycho on us but he didn’t. To me, he was showing his self control and how strong his desire to be the kind of person Claire deserved was.

Also, the more he changed, and the more ‘sane his actions became, the more I beganto see the world through his eyes more. He became a lot easier to relate too and I even found myself supporting many of his decisions that I might, in the past, have frowned upon because I could ‘get where he was coming from.

I even got to the point where I was flat-out AWWW-ing and grinning over some of his lines and scenes with Claire. Seriously guys! I even had a heart clench moment for him!! A heart clench!!!! Never thought I’d see that day.

I decided that you can’t fix the past or turn back time. But you CAN decide the future.

I do not take back any of my previous Tony-hating feelings from before. Those ALL remain the same. Yes, I hated him and truly believed he deserved to rot in a jail cell. But as he changed, so did my feelings.

So yeah given his changes and proof in certain scenarios which would have sent the old-Tony into a flying rage, but the new-Tony handled with an attitude I could understand and respect. I have fallen for him.

I’m decidedly on Team (new) Tony. #teamNEWtony

But let me tell you. if he puts one TOE wrong in CONVICTED. *shakes fist* . Let’s just say that my new “team alliance is built on faith and trust and not much else and because of his past, it would be pretty easy to have that come crumbling down so I’m just saying

About the ending I know some of you will be wondering if its a cliffhanger so I’ll let you know there is clearly a TON more to the story lots of secrets still to unravel, a lot more questions to answer, and of course a “conviction to be made, BUT.. it ended at a point I could live with. I’m okay to wait at this point. The characters are all at a place where, in my mind, I’m okay to leave them until the next book is out.

Speaking of the next book, CONVICTED, it is due out late 2013/early 2014 at this point. If that changes, I’ll keep you guys informed

Here’s a break down of some of my reactions while reading Spoiler-free of course!

27% - Ohhhhh FUCK. Guess that’s a lesson never to underestimate Tony! GURK!!

30% - Hmm there’s that *spark* again with Tony. Dammit. WHY AM I FALLING FOR IT?????? Cuz I so am :/

33% - O_O

39% - DAMMIT!! I swore this wouldn’t happen but yes, Tony is melting my heart just a wee bit.

45% - Grrrrr Tony, dammit, stop making it so hard to love you!!!! *mimes throttling*

58% - *blink* *blink*

69% - SAY WHAAAAA???? Gahhhhh!!!! Ok This brings a whole extra level of NOT OKAY to the already high levels of NOT OKAY surrounding the dream thing. Just sayin!

78% - Ok. I’m officially leaning towards Team (reformed) Tony now Tony, pleasepleaseplease don’t make me hate you again!!! *whispers* #TeamTony

80% - Awwwwwww!!! Seriously, I can’t believe I’m awww-ing but I totally am.

84% - FFUUUUCCCKKKKKKKK!!!!

89% - *grins* seriously, AWWWWWWW

92% - HOLYYY FUCKING HELL!!!! OMG! I so so SO called it!!!!

97% - Pleasedontbeacliffhanger pelasedontbeacliffhanger pleasedontbeacliffhanger pleasepleasepleasepleasepleeeeeease

100% - *deeeeep breath* okay. I’m okay with it ending there. I FREAKING WANT THE NEXT BOOK. but I’m okay to wait. *whew*

Teehee.

If I had to rate it, I’d give it the same rating as book #1 > 4.5 stars.

Here's my casting for Tony and Claire:

1 Deflated Disappointed Star!
I Must Tell The TRUTH!

Beware of the Spoilers Below…and Warning of Long Winded Ranting!

The Review:
If you read my review for this series first book, Consequences, you know that I didn’t think favorably of it. In fact, I only gave it two stars because of how much I disliked both main characters, Anthony and Claire and I wasn’t inclined to move on to book two and subject myself to another read that left me feeling desolate and empty. But I was assured that I would feel completely different about Truth and by the end of the book I would be “Team Tony. So against my better judgment, I moved on to book two with hope and an open mind. Partnering with my favorite gal pal, Juls, we did this as a buddy read, so we could rant or rave as we read through each chapter.

Well, as I sit here trying to come up with what to say in this review, the only phrase I can come up with is

I Call Bullshit!

Truth had me wishing I could rewind time and get back the hours I spent trapped inside this tortuous, infuriating read!

If it’s even possible, this book was worse than the first book, leaving me with no choice but to hide behind the masses of four and five star raters with my lonely one star rating.

And I have one question

What in the hell did everyone see in this book that I didn’t?

I know I’m in the minority here but if you’ll continue to read I’ll share my thoughts and why I thought it didn’t warrant praise from this reviewer.

The Story
First let me say, the first fifty percent of the book was great! By some stroke of luck and a dying judge’s attempt at revenge, Claire is released from prison. With the help of her lawyer, a mysterious benefactor and an old friend, Claire sneaks away from Iowa where she’s spent the last three years in purgatory. She gets to the sunny shores of California where she starts a new and beautiful life filled with the love of good friends, family reconnections and even a new love interest. Things seem to be going in the right direction for Claire and with her mind set on her new life as well as utilizing her new-found detective skills, she seek out information on her ex-husband, Anthony, knowing knowledge is power. Certain its only a matter of time before Anthony finally finds her, she wants to be ready to combat whatever his next move is. She knows her life is a game of chess to the domineering and vile Anthony and with her friends and family, she gains a strength she hasn’t known in a long time.

And then the book takes a one-eighty down the path of “I can’t believe this shit!. In walks Anthony into Claire’s new life and everything goes BOOM! Instead of stealing her away in the middle of the night and trapping her in his mansion in Iowa as he did before, Anthony worms his way back into her life spouting promises of love and being a changed man.

And Claire, instead of being revolted by her kidnapper, rapist, abuser and armed with the knowledge or at least the suspicion of his past deeds as a murderer, Claire decides this poor man has had such a horrific childhood by stumbling across the bodies of his murdered parents, that surely he’s scarred and in need of a big ol Claire hug! *sigh* Soon her resolve for vengeance for all this evil man has done to her, vanishes and in its place is sympathy, concern and the idiotic notion that he couldn’t, nor will he ever hurt her again!

And while she’s running about defending this man who destroys lives everywhere he goes, he’s out continuing to plot his revenge on the next unsuspecting person.

THIS BOOK WAS STUPID!!!

󲹰ٱ
Anthony’s reasoning for wanting revenge in the name of his grandfather is way stupid! Nathaniel’s unsavory business practices start this whole mess by stealing money that wasn’t his! And when he gets caught, he rages how he’s going to seek revenge on those who turned him in but before he gets a chance to do so, he dies in prison where he BELONGED! So Anthony and Nathaniel’s young wife take up the gauntlet to exact his revenge on his behalf. Time and money are the only things standing in their way so they wait and Anthony builds his empire. When the timing is right, they start killing off family members of the two men who turned Nathaniel in. Marie and Anthony’s vengeance was just self-indulgent and dumb.

Anthony isn’t a complicated character. He isn’t a beautiful soul hidden behind a rough exterior. He’s completely ruthless and insane! He’s a petty, childish man with control issues who’s pouting because someone stole his favorite toy and now he's throwing mud in everyone’s sandbox! Ugg!!! I HATE HIM!!! Even if his reasons weren’t completely ridiculous, his methods were irredeemable!!! I could NEVER find him attractive! He kidnaps Claire, he rapes her repeatedly until she submits through fear, he beats her into a two week coma where she suffers a concussion, broken ribs and broken bones and he puts such a whammy on her mind, she actually thinks she’s in love with him. He intimidates her through fear and domination. He ruined her sisters life by ensuring her brother-in-law, John, lost his prominent lawyers career and Emily lost her teaching job by having to move once John was thrown in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. One in which Anthony set him up for. Anthony is implicated in Simon’s death. Claire suspects he could have had something to do with her own parent’s death. And most importantly, Anthony sets Claire up for his attempted murder and sends her to prison!!! His crimes are countless and extend further than I can list here on this review.

Why in the hell would Claire want him? How could she love a man who’s done all these things to HER? Is she just an idiot with no common sense or mind of her own or is she a masochist who gets off on the pain and misery? And what’s worse, throughout Truth, Claire gives up her new love interest Harry, a man who cherished her and was honorable. She actually gets upset with her sister and her brother-in-law for trying to talk her out of going back to Anthony. There were several times she puts off talking to Emily and flat out refusing to tell her sister the truth. Emily, who was there for her through everything, who suffered as much as Claire, even if not physically, is now a nuisance to Claire because she wants good things for Claire instead a life of fear and degradation.

Claire is a selfish bitch! This chick, by not telling the truth and not trying to change her circumstances in Consequences and by going back to Anthony after everything he’s done to her and her entire family, has once again pushed the unconditional love and support away to be with a man who was the reason for all the bad and horrific things in her life.

And then if all that wasn’t bad enough, the mystery surrounding the revenge in this book fell flat and was entirely too predictable. Another thing that irritated me was Claire seemed to be the pied piper of men. Whoever came into contact with her, wanted her. She must have had beer flavored nipple or something because Anthony wanted her to the point of insanity, Harry wanted to be with her and then the PI who Anthony hired fell in love with her. I’m sorry, but there was NOTHING special about Claire let alone enough to warrant man after man falling at her feet in worship.

Also, the ending of this book sucked and the fact Claire leaves town letting her sister think she’s been kidnapped again or is dead is so disturbing I can’t even wrap my mind around it. But the one person she lets know she’s still alive? Anthony! If I had been Emily, John, Amber and Harry, I would have wiped my hands of Claire the moment she decided to go back to Anthony and cut off any and all contact with her. The first time she didn’t have a choice. This time, she chose to go back. He might have initially blackmailed her to go back to him, but she had resources, she had family, she had friends. All these things would have helped her fight Anthony, but Claire didn’t want to fight. She wanted to go back and she wanted to be with him. It’s all on her what happens next!

The Wrap Up:
Needless to say, this is NOT a book I will ever read again. I am permanently deleting it from my Nook and will NOT read book three. I have no desire to read any more of this story or these characters and suffer the frustration it causes.

Special Thanks
I would like to thank my good friend Juls for reading this and Consequences with me. She kept me sane as we tried to analyze, figure out and come up with reasons why things were happening. And finally, she was there when we both decided to just give up and read the last 90 pages as a free-for-all because we just wanted to get this stupid, messed up story done and over with. Thanks girl.. I’m still completely “Team Kill Evil Anthony and not even him saving babies in Africa could change my mind! :)

While the 'Consequences' series is one of my all-time favorite series, 'Truth' is my absolute favorite book in the series. That isn't to say that all of the books in this series aren't wonderful -- they are. However, this book is so damn great that I can't even begin to express how much I love it.

I frequently find myself returning to this book and rereading my favorite parts. I'm a glutton for punishment that way. Never has a story made me feel more conflicted...or more addicted, than the story of Tony and Claire. I just cannot get enough of this screwed up, controversial and suspenseful story.

After the huge upset at the end of 'Consequences', it is no surprise that 'Truth' takes Claire and Tony's story in a new direction. So much has changed. Yet, so much remains the same.

While many of Claire's actions continue to be irrational and perplexing, I am so glad that Aleatha Romig dreamed up her character. Otherwise, I would have never experienced this phenomenal story. While all rational thought should send Claire running as far away from Tony as she can get, I'm so glad that she continues to defy all reason and repeatedly engages in his games. I cannot get enough of it!

In comparison to her demeanor in 'Consequences', 'Truth' shows a more independent and strong-minded version of Claire. She is no longer trapped at Tony's mansion, at the mercy of his violent whims. This book sees Claire pursue more of an "offensive" approach to her interactions with Tony, whereas Claire had previously been limited to a sort of passive resistance.

Nevertheless, Tony is not one to be out-maneuvered. Time and time again, he proves that he is still in control. The back and forth antics of Tony and Claire keeps me flipping the pages every time I read this book.

Even though I should hate Tony, I just can't. That is the beauty of this series. In fact, as "truths" are revealed and more of his horrendous actions come to light, I find myself trying to fight a stronger pull to him. He is the epitome of an anti-hero. I love him more, despite all reason, with each new detail shared. I can relate to Claire in that regard.

This second book in the series begins a slow unveiling of Tony's motivations. Little by little, Claire begins to unearth details of a their families' shared past. The depth of Tony's hunger for revenge is astounding. Claire tries to gather clues to figure out exactly where she fits into the picture.

This book was jam-packed with information. Blink and you'll miss something. Each time I read it, I pick up on something else that I overlooked before.

Not only are "truths" revealed in this book, but new mysteries surface. For every question answered, more questions arise. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Once again, Claire finds herself in danger. Only this time, the person trying to harm her is unknown. Is Tony really trying to turn over a new leaf or is he up to his old tricks? Can Claire ever trust him after everything that he's done? Is there somebody else that wants to do her harm?

In addition to all of the facts that are unveiled in this book, the introduction of several new characters makes for a multi-dimensional story. Claire finds an unlikely friend in Amber, the fiancée of her recently deceased ex-boyfriend. Amber's brother, Harry, also plays a pivotal role in this book, helping Claire adjust to her new life. Phil, a private investigator hired by Tony, also ends up being a key player this time around. The introduction of Derek and Sophia Burke adds yet another layer to this story, while familiar characters like Courtney and Brent evolve further.

I don't want to give too much away, as I believe that this series should be experienced. I cannot begin to coherently state how much I love this series, or why. It is simply spectacular!

If you like darker reads, full of suspense, romance and mystery, then this is one is a must-read. You have to go into it with an open mind though. This story is not for those with "triggers" related to abuse, etc. It is full of controversial, offensive subject matter. However, if you love stories that mess with your head and make you step outside of your comfort zone, then you don't want to miss it.

And the game continues.....

Actions and their consequences are just one side of a coin. The side which receives light.

On the other side, lying in the shadows is the ...TRUTH behind those actions which resulted in those CONSEQUENCES.

By the end of the first book we saw how Anthony Rawlings(Tony),the utterly cruel, conniving and manipulative devil played the game to perfection. He had his vengeance. And it appeared that as his last move,he disclosed all his pieces to Claire.

At last everything was clear.

But.....***shakes head***

When am I going to learn? APPEARANCES!!!

Appearances deceive.Nothing is as it seems.

In the last book,we saw the thousand and one facades of Anthony and even Claire.

In this book the masks will be ripped off and the people behind those masks will be revealed.

Is the dark persona of Anthony real or is it just a mask or is it a bit of both?

Is Claire the quiet, meek submissive or under all that lies a core of steel?

The questions are answered here and more...

Some new (pieces)characters are introduced in this book too. Each has his/her own role to play.

The game is still on,but the stakes are even higher...

Anthony and Claire will have to decide whether they will be playing against each other or have to unite their forces to thwart an UNSEEN ENEMY,whom none of them has ever anticipated.

An enemy more cruel, more ruthless and more evil!!An enemy who is driven by a lust for vengeance more stronger than even Anthony's.An enemy who doesn't have his/her own personal beacon of light,as Claire is Anthony's.

Would-be-readers of this book, get ready...hang on tight....or you'll be sucked inside the vortex which is TRUTH.

Short storyline--

After 18 months of serving her sentence,Claire is pardoned.Which means that her every record of committing the (framed) crime has been wiped off.Amazed, she tries to build a new life in California with Amber, the fiancee of deceased Simon. She meets with Harry,Amber's brother. She reconnects with her sister Emily. All the time hoping that Tony doesn't find her.

Tony get's word of her release after two weeks(the news was kept under wraps). Tony is furious. He seeks Claire out.Well,if you are thinking that it was because of his unfulfilled vengeance, then you are wrong...

Why? Please read the book.I do not want to spoil the shocks you'll get,one after the other.

But,I had hoped that Tony would face the consequences of his actions, and he did........

"I'm so sorry...for everything... why? ...why did you leave me?"As the tears coated his cheeks he told himself,Anthony Rawlings doesn't cry.He doesn't apologize, and he doesn't cry...

Though my heart cried a little too.

For those who think I'm crazy, you try and read this book and not fall for him.

Why are you still listening to my babble,(or reading shall I say)???Go and grab the book.Right now!!!

I think my brain cells start to hurt for working overtime. What a mind blowing, twisting, compelling but totally well-written story. Looking forward to read the next three books... it's like a riding on a roller coaster and I enjoyed every page of it.

Some of the emotions I felt while reading this book...

Just like Consequences, the first part of this highly enticing, fascinating and mind-boggling series, Truth (again) left me speechless, shocked and just emotionally exhausted after finishing it. It also left me in awe of the amazing writer that is Aleatha Romig, for creating such a marvelous story that can make you feel so many emotions during such a short period of time.

After you've dealt with the Consequences, prepare yourself to face the Truth...

What happened in Consequences was only the beginning, what follows in Truth is the unravelling of a masterfully created web of secrets and deceits that will most of the time leave you on the edge of your seat.

When Claire is released from prison after being incarcerated for 18 months, she hopes to finally move on with her life, her life without Tony. She moves to California to live with her newfound friend and ally Amber (fiancee of Claire's deceased former boyfriend Simon) and her brother Harry. But, as to be expected, Tony isn't ready to let Claire go that easily, he hunts her down and what follows is an emotional and psychological figurative game of chess that will, in the end, lead us to the Truth...

"Perhaps, someday she'd learn to expect the unexpected, and his actions wouldn't shock her. Yet, as was their history, whenever Anthony Rawlings was in Claire's life, so was the potential for abrupt change."

In this second part there are some very interesting new characters and although the story no longer solely takes part around the close surroundings of the Rawlings' Mansion; in the end it all comes down to this:

Same game,

Same rules,

Same main players.

"It's like chess. I make a move, he makes a move. Eventually one of us will declare check-mate."

"From my short experience, I believe you're a worthy opponent."

"You see, that's where I'm confused. Sometimes I think I'm an opponent. Other times I think he believes I'm the prize."

"In their figurative game of chess, Anthony Rawlings had Claire in check. Every move she made, he countered."

"Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it." ~ Mark Twain

In this "game" nothing is as it seems and just when you think you've figured it out, something unexpected happens and you are left in the dark once again to ponder on what the meaning of everything you've just read, is.

As for Tony, I have to admit, as much as I hated and detested the man that is Anthony Rawlings in Consequences; in Truth we do get to see a much different side of him. We learn about his history and everything he's been through in his young life. And we learn that there is in fact a more human, lighthearted side to him that might make you want to revise your entire opinion about him. But, nonetheless, the man has a lot of issues and my main message to him would still be:

Overall, this series is a definite MUST-READ!!! I would highly recommend reading it to everyone and to embark on this extremely entertaining (to say the least) roller coaster ride, a ride that will propably stay with you for a very long time after you're finished with it...

Well done, Aleatha Romig, well done!!

And now I can't wait to read Convicted and find out what will happen in the next part of this unbelievable story...

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me

If the first book was the perfect nightmare, the second book is the perfect fairytale.

So Claire will have a second chance for happiness.
Finally free from jail, free from Tony, free from debts; she will be surrounded with old and new friends, her family, new allies and a new boyfriend.

Tony definitely will not like losing control of Claire and her life. He has never wanted to let her go.

But what about Claire? Surely she should be happy. But something is missing.
Maybe deep down Claire never wanted to be free.

Claire apparently does not like taking decisions. She prefers it when someone chooses her clothes and her food at the restaurant. Her new boyfriend gives her the freedom of choice. He always asks her opinion. But maybe Claire is well trained by Tony. She is the perfect submissive. She can only take what she is given. She does not ask.

Tony.the rapist, the sadist, the possibly killer, the respectable businessman, the shark. I tried very hard to understand him, but I gave up.

Tony and Claire’s love is twisted. Not many of the people that they really know them understand it. But that is okay in the fiction world.

Some may say that Claire when she gets a normal boyfriend, she also gets a new chance in love.
It just looks as a distraction to me. A way to postpone the inevitable. Not a really important relationship, because Claire undoubtedly craves the dominance of Tony.

There are different kinds of monsters and devils in this world. If the “victim agrees to her torture, then she is not a victim. And if the “tormentor is accepted, then he is not really a tormentor.

Claire is a perfect match for Tony. I wouldn’t take him, but this is her life.

What I did not like in the book:
-Still there is PP (product placement). At least this time is less extensive in comparison to Consequences. Reading about all these brands that I cannot afford can be very painful LOL.
-While “Consequences was an extremely slow book; “Truth is a bit too fast in some instances that I want it to be really slow. When good things are happening I really want to savor them. I want to appreciated them and learn all the details. Especially towards the end, when Claire is winning battles. I want to know everything. Instead I get a perfect moment fast-forward in a perfect isolated tropical island in the future, where I need to speculate the facts and imagine the most important scene of the book.

I was not bored with this book. There are many twists and many surprises. There is also another mastermind more ruthless, psychotic and devilish than Tony.

Additionally, the moments that Tony is trying really hard not to be such a frighteningly controlling, manipulated bastard are really satisfying and amusing.

------------------------
------------------------
BEFORE STARTING THE BOOK

Before I start the next book of the series, I just wish that toxic acid rain will fall on Tony Rawlings while he is sunbathing.
And consequently he will die a horrible death.
And his ashes will be scattered in North, East, West and South with the help of at least 6 different types of winds.
While black crows will laugh at him.
And nobody will remember him ever again on the face of the earth.

This is the book that supposedly will make me change my opinion about him. HA HA.
Bring it on!

This book is Insane!! Brilliant!! & Oh My God, I am going to die waiting for the third book. BTW Seriously, if we die before 2013 I am going to be pissed because I am waiting for at least 15books+ of series which come out in 2013.

By the end of the book you have NO FUCKING IDEA who played who, like seriously, I got no clue who played who and even then I loved it.. Can't wait for whats going to happen to ALL of them.

Anton, Anthony, Tony.
I love you! Yes, call me crazy!

Loved this story, the author is sheer brilliant.. like seriously.. someone should learn how to fuck the brain from her. Brilliant. The twist, the turns, bloody hell.. nothing is predictable.. This should be made into a movie.
I didn't feel connected AT ALL with Tony and Claire in book one, but boy book two compelled me. I was like burning the midnight oil and read it till sunrise and then I was like 'how can I sleep after all of this madness?'
The book sucked me in! I fell in love, connected, understood and freaked my ass out.
I do not know when the 3rd book is coming, what is going to happen.. but I am ready to jump onto this madass moving roller coaster.
Claire is the most spineless person ever.. she is hella stupid and a fool. But once you start thinking from the heart.. who isn't.

11% -
“Good Evening, Claire.

I swear I get more freaked out than Claire when he says that! After reading Consequences.. I didn't sleep for 2nights because I had bizarre dreams of Claire and myself being kidnapped by Tony! SCARY DREAMS!

After he called her and she had a meltdown, I was panicking more than her here sitting at my home as if he was going to come and find me now. This book has terrorized me. Badly! x_x

Claire didn’t feel vengeance. She felt pity for the man she’d loved.

Bitch, You have brain problems!!

And as of 29% in, I stand corrected. She is demented and so has Stockhold Syndrome!

“Be careful. You don’t want to disappoint me.

SMUG BASTARD!!! I know, I know I should hate you.. but sorry! No can do..
I LOVE YOU. description

“Not as much as last time.

39% -HOLY HELL! TONY! Creep rapist!

Nathaniel and Marie's story pissed the shit out of me I hate such crap!!
It got a bit irritating, how the story kept bouncing from Clair and Tony to Nathaniel and Marie and Sophia and Derek. :\ But we learnt A LOT along the way.. so its fine.

“Are you letting me in, or pushing him out? - Harry

He was never let out Harry ;) Only you pushed pushed in a couple of times! LOL

Never a book got me so infuriated as this one.The only character that I liked was Emily, she was the only one with common sense.
Most of the story is Claire trying to get revenge (emphasis on trying) for what Tony did to her but I just see her as a weak pawn being handed from one person to another. Constantly relying on the strength of others to go on. I keep waiting for her to scream and stomp and just raise her voice and be heard. Sometimes she would only to be bow down and be bullied once again by Tony and take a nap. She's always napping!

You see, I never expected for Claire to plan a perfect revenge.I knew she's just too stupid for it.Still,I expected her to at least TRY!I wanted her to make a move that I wouldn't see coming. She did too much talking but so little actions. From the moment she walked out of jail she started talking about how much she missed Tony and remembering her time with him.She didn't even need time to heal.I mean, giiiirrrll you spent 3 years in there because of HIM, can't you even be angry? I hated that she didn't talk about her days in prison. When she was confronting him, she would bring all the stupid shit like how he broke her little heart and how she trusted him and why he divorced her.But NEVER did she mentioned how could he sent her and James in jail, how much Emily suffered. She own it to them to be angry at him.

overall I was bored with all the designer labels and shopping and galas. I know some people consider this to be one of those mindfuck books but I just find it infuriating and keep waiting to click with any character and actually care about what happens to them.

Spoiler Free Review -Quick review
4.5 STARS out of 5
Genre: Adult Fiction -Psychological Thriller

ARE YOU READY FOR THE TRUTH??? I sure as hell wasn't....
NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING was what it appeared to be, yet EVERYTHING weaved together flawlessly with a JAW DROPPER ending.

In Consequences
A man with no compassion started to feel compassion.
A man with no regrets started to regret.
A man who NEVER apologizes, apologized.
Claire's ability to ADAPT produced CHANGE.
Claire's decision to adapt provided her with a wealth of knowledge. She has learned from the master and now she can use it to her advantage.

Freedom
In Claire is released from prison after doing an eighteen month stint. Shocked yet grateful she seeks solace in sunny California with an unexpected friend. But happy day's of freedom don't last forever because when Tony get's word of her release....Well....Let's just say he is none to pleased. His unhappiness however does not stem from her newly found freedom but from his loss of control. AND the fact that he still wants her. Which is something he never anticipated.

A new game begins with a host of new players. Unbeknownst to him, puppet master Tony is no longer pulling the strings. Because there is someone more EVIL lurking around to take out both him and Claire. And the new puppet master is ten times colder, twenty times more calculated and very much determined to win.

Truth takes off with a BOOM and keeps up the momentum at high rate speed; with it's perfectly spun web of events that are mind consuming. Romig has crafted a well developed plot, strong characters and jaw dropping story lines. This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time as the truth was slowly revealed piece by piece. I consider this series A MUST READ! You will not be disappointed!

My ratings
Characters- Cunning
Writing Style- Methodical, Leading and Skillful
Plot/Storyline- Clever, Deceptive, and Intense
Steam Factor- Medium/Moderately Steamy
Overall- I loved it!! A MUST READ!!

Now go forth and read. Then come tell us about it on ŷ!

10,000+ truthfully gleaming stars !!!!

Give me CONVICTED like right now !!!!!

EDIT : 11/05/2012

Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many. The intelligence of a few, perceives what has been carefully hidden Roman poet Phaedrus

SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS !!!!!

I'm spent ! Exhausted ! Both Mentally and Emotionally !

Mrs Aleatha Romig , you deserve a standing ovation for sure ...

Wow , If Consequences was all about actions and consequences , then Truth is all about the truth that had paved the way to those actions . Infact , its all about separating the lies and deceptions from the truth . Honestly speaking , I'm not going to get into what this book is going to offer story wise because there is no way I can do that without giving away a lot of spoilers . And its something I dont want to do . This journey is for the reader and for the reader alone . The blurb gives a perfect description of what you will be getting yourself into ... okay , maybe not EXACTLY what you'll be getting into , but if you've read the first book then there shouldn't be a question of thinking what you can expect from this book . Aleatha is a mastermind-ish twister of events , scenes and scenario's ! Phew ... that was exhausting !

All I'll say now is that you have to abandon most of your assumptions because like the fact that is mentioned above , NOTHING IS AS IT SEEMS ! AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE FROM THE LIES ! .. In a way it would , but then it'll probably ground you back with a dozen new questions .

Consequences ended with a lot of explosions ! But that wasn't the end of it . In Truth , Claire tries to find out more about the man that is Anthony Rawlings . His past and what makes him what he is . We definitely got a bit of his history in Consequences but that was just a small part of a much bigger picture .

I loved Claire in this book . Her decisions were a bit shocking at times , but thats just who she is , or thats what she's made up of . Somehow , I found her as a person who looks into the soul of a Person . Someone who is optimistic in her approach towards life . And judging by that there was no questioning the path she took . But is she right or wrong ? She was a victim before , but this time , has she deliberately walked into a trap that could lead her to darkness ? Or has she bought about a change that no one expected ? A change of heart and mind . A change of Priority . Only time will tell .

Tony ... All I can say is , " Oh my god , was he for realz ?? " He is still manipulative , he is still controlling but .. but ... he just stole by heart . Sexy as hell and mighty fine I tell ya . He has a little humorous side to him too . God , how much I loved him here in spite of all the douchery that he was in book 1 . I'm not saying thats forgettable but he's only human so ..... yeah I sound a bit biased here but ....

There I said it ...

The ending !!!!! God lord , that ending was just

I shouldn't even be surprised , this is Aleatha Romig we are talking about . But still .... speechless !

Aleatha Romig really knows how to have her way with words. If Consequences had a very eerie and a dread like feel to it , then truth was all about anticipation and surprises . I'm sure you must have noticed that every chapter begins with a quote , and somehow I felt that those quotes are so rightly placed because they end up giving a feel or what that chapter is all about . She very cleverly creates a web of words and actions that leaves the reader all tangled up . It took me two days to write up this review , because every time I thought about the book , I ended up seeing things in different shades . That ending ... just AWESOME !

This is such a Hollywood movie material . Its a perfect mixture of :

a little action , a hint of humor , a lot of mystery and a huge dose of suspense !

To sum up the entire review , Truth is a journey from darkness to light , from the unknown to the known , from the expected to the unexpected .. yup you read that right . From assumptions to reality .

I'm definitely going to be on pins and needles till Convicted come out !!

Oh , before I go , Aleatha , Failure to give me a HEA is not an option . Any other conclusion to this series is non-negotiable and undebatable . Do not disappoint me .

5 Mind Blowing I Will Never Be The Same Again after Reading This Stars

There was no question in his mind he’d seriously underestimated this woman.

Mr. Anthony Rawlings had a lesson to learn, and this time Claire claimed the role as teacher.

Let me start out by saying that I hated...no that's not right. I despised...no, that's not quite accurate. I LOATHED Tony in Consequences. I kept asking myself how in the fuck people could be team Tony with such a cruel, brutal, and in my eyes irredeemable asshole. (Now I should probably admit that my internal masochist was silently hoping that he would redeem himself. That bitch is eternally optimistic and has a thing for irredeemable assholes. I just didn't think it was possible with Tony.)

So imagine my surprise where halfway through this book I not only began to feel for him, and actually (gasp) like him, but became a full fledged member of team fucking Tony.

This book fucked with my head.

Claire once read that time doesn't pass at normal speeds within a black hole. If one were to travel into a black hole for only moments and return again, centuries would have passed. That explained the sensation she felt, once again peering into his dark gaze.

Tony was a giant magnet. His pull affected everything, from the rotation of the earth, to her mind’s ability to reason.

Oh Claire, I feel for you. I was right there with you.

I'm not even sure how to go about reviewing this book without revealing any spoilers. So I'm not even going to try. I was questioning where Aleatha Romig would take this series. I struggled through some parts of Consequences. It was one tough fucking pill to swallow. This book? I have one thing to say to you, Ms. Romig

I forever worship at the altar of your greatness.

Holy shit. I'm speechless. My mind? Blown! My sanity? Well what little of it was left...gone! I will never be the same. Truth was a crazy thrill ride filled with enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page. And then when you read the end?

This book will keep you guessing until the end, it will make you question EVERYTHING and you will still not be close to what the truth is. I couldn't put it down. My brain hurt. I was going crazy. I needed a shot or 5 of vodka once I finished. But FUCK! What a ride!

Luckily I had reinforcement, because I'm pretty sure...no, I KNOW, I would not have been able to handle this ride alone.

P.S. What a way to pop your BR cherry than with this series, Mirjana <3 AHAHAHAHAHA!!!

The Police in a press conference, shared today new information regarding the recent murder of a Kindle Keyboard that has shocked the reading community. The investigation is considered ongoing and there weren't made any other comments. Our reporters are trying since, to contact Mr. Rawlings but he is unreachable. We will continue to keep you informed as new evidence surface...

5+++ AMAZING STARS
Another winner for Aleatha Romig and in my opinion even better than the first book!

I was stunned, I was speechless and by the end I was breathless. This book grabbed me and never let me go and my GOD what a ride! If I have to find a minor minus, I'll say that the parts about Sophia started as intriguing but until her importance in the story was revealed they were a little boring, only because I was bitting my nails to found out more about Tony (yeah in this book he is definitely a Tony!) and Claire. The title is Truth and the book does live up to its title. We learn the whole truth and the heroes face it no matter the consequences...

description
These book are a chess game. A game that is being played for about 30 years. Every move has a significance and its piece equal importance, because let's not forget: a pawn that reaches its eighth rank (a row of the chessboard) can be transformed into the player's choice of a queen, knight, rook, or bishop. So don't underestimate anyone! (All of us did it...)

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls;
the most massive characters are seared with scars.

- Kahlil Gibran as quoted by Aleatha Romig

Anthony Rawlings: In this book he not only shows redeeming qualities, he managed to throw away his stoic mask and give us a glimpse of the vulnerable man who hides. I finally saw that he trully loves Claire and his love may be obsessive and possesive but is also deep and everlasting... I don't forgive him his atrocious actions, I just see a way to put them in the past and start anew.

Claire Nichols: Well, she still is a little doormat-y for my taste. She is impulsive and immature, indecisive and naive. In the end she managed to surprise me and in an epic twist, just I was ready to destroy my Kindle, she moved for the win and eventually after two whole books I cheered for her!!! Claire your final plan ROCKED!!!!!!!

Saying all that doesn't mean I condone or even understand the actions of these people. I still find myself an innocent bystander, willing but unable to stop the proverbial train wreck.

Now, I'm more than ready for book #3... I seriously can't wait to get my hands on it. The questions are finally semi-answered, all the pieces are set and the last moves will decide the WINNER.
So, let me check the release date..

This is, quite simply, a brilliantly told mind-bender.

If Consequences was a jigsaw with pieces missing, then Truth is most definitely a strategic game of chess.

I think it’s nigh on impossible to review without giving away too many plotlines which no reader should know before embarking on this one. I want you to go in blind, the way I did I want you to feel what I did. I lost sleep over these books, I never knew what was coming next, Aleatha Romig has the ability to constantly surprise and she wields this weapon over us readers with, I suspect, wicked glee!! What is going on here is just plain, good old-fashioned story telling. It’s an incredibly well-crafted story with layers constantly peeling back to reveal yet more shocking truths.

As a reader, I felt like I constantly teetered on the edge of an abyss of obsession, madness, hidden identities and vengeance and, even after so many Truths were revealed, it remains a compelling mystery that I still can’t quite unravel. Thankfully, there is to be a third book, Convicted, to finally tie up all the loose ends and, once and for all, finally explain who exactly did what and why they did it. The whole book is incredibly compelling and a worthy sequel to Consequences, a book which left me completely stunned by the turn of events. It’s enigmatic, tense and never deviates from the central emotional quandary can Claire ever forgive Tony for his actions? Can anything justify what he has done to Claire and those who love her?

I will say that, for me, Tony was 100% villain by the end of Consequences. I could never have envisioned finding a happy place for him in my imagination but Aleatha Romig is an absolute mistress of misdirection and she has bent my mind once again and now I find I have sympathy and even empathy for him. By the end of Truth, I feel now that I understand him and his motivations better. I still really do not like what he did and I need to hear more about that fateful day from his perspective but Tony and I now have an entente-cordiale and a fragile peace exists between us.

Claire after being such a victim for nearly all of the first book, has now grown a backbone of steel. She’s been bitchslapped by the last three years of her life into a much stronger and resolute woman and she now knows what she wants, what she wants to avenge and how she is going to go about it. I did feel for a while that she dallied a little with other people’s affections and kindness but, for the most part, there’s a lot to admire in her in this book.

There’s also the addition of several very important secondary characters who have a big role to play in what happens here and also startling revelations about established characters although I will confess I worked out the ‘biggie, fairly early on in this one through the frequent flash-backs and flash-sideways. Truth gets off to a fairly explosive beginning and then stalls to a fairly sedate pace before once again picking up speed and galloping for the finish line. It’s absolutely unputdownable. Is that a word? Well, whatever, it describes it perfectly.

This was another 5 star review for me but it’s almost impossible to classify. I labelled Consequences as ‘dark-non-con and I guess it falls under that category for the darkness but there’s also contemporary romance and suspense going on here too. This is a fantastic series I am going to highly recommend it.

Series Reading Order

1.Consequences
2. Truth - released Nov 2012
3. Convicted - release expected 2013: date tbc

“It was amazing how the mind can twist things, making them legitimate, especially under duress.

Bravo, Aleatha Romig for exceeding my expectations with a second book in a series.

It was mindfuckingly-beautiful!
description

The twists and turns, screams and yearning- all so well done. After Consequences, I had a plan for Claire to be strong and take “the man DOWN but oh no, you had other plans for us and I believe the story (the game) is just going to be better played.
Ms. Romig, you make me want to pick up every thought-provoking psychological thriller book and devour it. You wreaked havoc with my mind and emotions and I hated it but yet want more of it.

I still may be in this camp:

“All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered. The trick is to discover them. -Gallolao

Okay, seriously, my mind has just been blown!!!!

Yeah... thats how I feel. I am shocked by that ending. Did not see that coming at all! And I have to wait how long to find out what happens next?!?!?!?!? Late 2013/Early 2014- Are you kidding me????

I’m not gonna lie- I wasn't 100% sure how I felt about Consequences, but this book was phenomenal It was long, but it kept me on my toes the entire time. Just when I thought I had everything figured out- BAM- I was totally wrong.

“I think it was a game to both of you, a real life chess game. Every move you made he countered. In order to get his king, you sacrificed your queen, a bold move. One I believe will work. But at what cost?

Claire- as usual, infuriated me a lot of this book. Although she did have much more of a backbone at times- especially the beginning. She was much stronger than I gave her credit for.
Anthony/Tony/Anton- I hated Tony for much of this book. He was still obsessive, crazy, creepy, and totally out of control. But then, I didn’t so much. I hated my self for not hating him the last 10-15% of the book. I wanted to, I really did. What is wrong with me?!?! So conflicted when it comes to Tony. Tony is the bad guy- why did I start to feel for him?!?!? He is truly messed up and did some unforgivable things- but I feel he is on the road to redemption. It may be wrong, and after hating him so much in Consequences, I feel bad for saying this.... but I am SO TEAM TONY <3 <3
Harry and Amber- I seriously loved you both... Especially Harry! I wished things would have worked out for him differently.
Courtney and Brent- Loved you both even more in this book than the last! Courtney- you are freaking awesome!
Phil- At first I wasn't sure how I felt about him... but I ended up really enjoying his character.
Derek and Sophia- I had a lot of theories on you two- I’m glad I was wrong on some accounts. Although They had the most awesome relationship, I hope we see more of them in the next book!
Catherine One of my favorite characters from Consequences...

These books are unlike anything I have ever read. They had me all over the place. I still don’t understand what some of these characters were thinking. I felt like as soon as some of my questions were answered, more came about. It never ends! Like I said before, at first I wasn’t too sure how I felt about these books. But I loved Truth! It was brilliant! If you haven’t read this, you are missing out!

Seriously... WOW! This series continues to BLOW my mind. I have no idea how to review this, so if it sucks... sorry.

I started this book with the intention of continuing my hate for Tony and watching Claire get sweet, sweet revenge. So when it begins, I loathe Tony for what he did to Claire. If you read my review of the first book, you know just how much I really hate him. When Claire is liberated from prison, I am so beyond happy that she can finally do something to retaliate. I love that she researches and tries to recreate the mystery box of information she had recieved when she was incarcerated. I love that Claire has Amber and then later on Harry for support. Two people who seem to truly believe in her. And so the ball starts rolling, or should I say, the game of chess begins...

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

"In their figurative game of chess, Anthony Rawlings had Claire in check. Every move she made, he countered."

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“Mr Anthony Rawlings had a lesson to learn and Claire claimed the role as teacher.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

In the beginning, I had so much hope in Claire. I knew she could do it and possibly best Tony in the game. I knew Tony was intelligent, but I felt Claire was often underestimated. Plus I loved the backbone she developed in this one. I liked her interactions with Harry. I really liked him a lot. At one moment I thought he could be really good for her, totally different from what she had with Tony. I also loved that Courtney and Brent were totally supportive of her. Even the hired creeper ended up helping Claire, with some blackmail of course. But it seemed she had all her 'chess pieces' where she needed them to be to carry out her plan. I loved the way she was able to make things go in her favor. Still, there were many moments I was a bit annoyed with Claire for how weak she seemed at times. But like I said, others underestimated her... even I did.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“This is why I haven’t answered all of your questions. You may think you’re ready for answers, but you’re not. Bits and pieces may help you understand. But, the blatant truth is too much.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

Oh, how I hate Tony. I got so paranoid in the beginning of this book. Whenever something happened, I instantly thought it was him. I was so freaking scared of him. He wouldn't stop stalking claire. Then, I got a upset with her because Tony has a way of getting to her. I was like 'NOOOOO! STAY AWAY FROM HIM! STAY STRONG!' (Yes I may have shouted that at my Kobo. Sorry Kobo) I didn't understand how she could melt for him after ALL he did to her. But she did, and soon the unthinkable happened... I LIKED HIM TOO!! I know!! I was shocked! It didn't happen in one page but still it happened. What is wrong with me?? I have no idea, but Tony turned around. He was 'trying' for her. I will say though, It was really hard for me to accept what he was saying when it came to his feelings. I didn't know if he was playing her again. But I just couldn't help but believe him. He isn't perfect, but he has definitely changed. There was one scene in particular that made me cry for him. I wanted to hug him so bad that's how bad I felt for him. I KNOW! That's crazy! I still don't know how it happened, but I am now on his team. Which really scares the crap out of me. I hope he stays this new Tony for good.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

His glaring abyss penetrated as he demanded, "Say it!"

Her emerald eyes begged for understanding, uncertain of what he wanted.

"Say you are mine and nobody else's."

Her voice resonated above his growl, "Yes, Tony,
you are mine and nobody else's."

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

Two new characters were introduced in this book. Derek and Sophia. We were able to get glimpses of Nathaniel's life and how he had a lover, Marie. We were given some new information that finally revealed some of the truth. I knew Derek and Sophia were somehow connected to the past. Almost near the beginning I knew who Sophia would end up being. I ended up being correct. I'm still scared what the future will hold for them. Because it seems someone's revenge is not over and they are now the main targets. I was suspicious of who it was that was behind it all. I had an inkling that is was Marie. But I wasn't sure where she was. After some clues throughout the book, I figured out who and where she was. I couldn't believe Claire hadn't seen it sooner. I was so shocked when I figured it out because I really liked this character. I couldn't believe I was deceived.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

“I think it was a game to both of you, a real life chess game. Every move you made he countered. In order to get his king, you sacrificed your queen, a bold move. One I believe will work. But at what cost?

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

The ending totally STUNNED me. I was not expecting that ending. There were so many twists that messed up with my mind completely. I didn't know what to expect next. I felt all sorts of emotions. I was happy, confused, angry, frustrated, and then more confused. The writing was just brilliant! Absolutely loved the writing and how it was able to keep me enthralled with this story that I didn't want to put it down. I didn't think I would end up liking Tony and I did, no matter how much I resisted. Still, I don't love him... but maybe in book three... we'll see. This book was one crazy ride and I loved every moment of it. I must say, I enjoyed this book better than the first. I still can't believe a character I liked ended up being the biggest evil bitch ever. I can't wait to read the next book. I hope Tony and Claire get their HEA. AND... I hope I get some answers because now I have more questions with that ending. I'm so happy the third installment is out or else the wait would have killed me. An absolute great read. I definitely recommend this book if you don't mind getting mind fucked.

The only way to possibly start this review is to begin by saying... this book is friggin amazing!!

I loved Consequences, but Truth was just a whole other level! It's definitely going on my favourites shelf, and what a way to start 2013.

I couldn't possibly begin to describe the storyline of Truth. It's so complex, interwoven and mind blowing, that I can't remember what happened in what order. Just know that it is completely gripping.

Mr Anthony Rawlings had a lesson to learn and Claire claimed the role as teacher.

I read, like the addict I am, every single second I could manage. I was totally addicted to Claire and Tony! And my emotions were all over the place.

As they sat, him on the sofa and her in a chair, she added, "I know you enjoy coffee, I'd offer you some. But, the last time I got you coffee, it didn't work out so well for me."
Tony smirked, "God, Claire you're something else. I can't imagine anyone else joking about that."

One minute I adored Tony, the next I wanted him to suffer. I was right there along with Claire as far as emotional whip lash. Aleatha Romig is an actual genius when it comes to creating a character that evokes both intense passion and hatred. One minute I was soooo Team Harry (just need to mention here; how adorable is Harry?!) and then Tony would come along and I'd be pining for a Tony/Claire HEA!

"It's documented, when a person is forbidden something, once it's available, they tend to overindulge."
Tony met her gaze, his tone a sultry melody, "Before it is made available, a person may dream of it, long for it, and fantasize about it. Especially if they once had it and know how amazing it is."

Tony is such a fabulous character! He is sexy, tortured, broken, unexpectedly sensitive, protective, utterly insane at times and you learn to love every side of him, light and dark. Somehow, the fact that he started off as such a dark soul, makes his admission of love to Claire all the more heart wrenching.

"I have made some bad decisions... and done some things I regret in my life... but without a doubt... what I regret the most... is divorcing you. If you tell me there is hope, that one day you'll be Mrs. Rawlings again, I will wait."

The are so many twists and turns and unexpected findings that you just can't possibly predict this book. That is one of the things that keeps you reading. What with the addition of Sophie, Derek, Harry, Phil, etc. you just have no idea what the next chapter, or page, even, is going to throw at you.

Tony lifted his glass and proposed a toast, "To you, the only person in this world, who can keep me on my toes."
Claire held her glass.

And the ultimate twist at the end, oh myyyyy GOD!!! I was preparing myself for the unexpected! I knew Aleatha Romig was going to try and rip the rug from under my feet and I wanted to catch her out... but I didn't! It was like a punch to the gut! Oh my God.

No matter how much he loved her his need to fulfill his promise to Nathaniel would always prevail.

How in the hell am I ever going to wait so long for book no. 3?!!!! I need it now! Like, right now!

Truth had my heart racing, breaking, melting and palpating, my mind spinning, my palms sweating and poor tired little brain working over time. It is seriously intense but so so so good. I can't recommend it enough.

Tony squeezed her hand and whispered, "It's as beautiful as I remember."
"Have you been here - recently?"
"No, I'd be lost without you."

It worries me that Consequences takes a while to get going, so people might throw the towel in too early. If that describes you, don't! I promise you with all my heart, it is worth it. It is an incredible book and will take you on such a journey!

I'm off to add Convicted to my list of 'Can't Wait Fors' of 2013 and Truth to my favourites shelf!

I picked up the first book in this series back last December but just never got around to reading it. A bargain at 85 cents! Friends were going to read the third on release date so Jxxx asked me if I wanted to do a Buddy Read of the first two before the third came out. Okay, I said. And so the journey began. The first book was a solid 5 stars and this one was just the same. But, OMG, you would need nerves of steel to read these books. My emotions were all over the place. Up and Down !! Anthony, I went from hating you to loving you. Thanks girls for the support during the BR, between you guys and the Vodka, I survived.

There's a menagerie of characters in this series, they all have their place and add to the development and suspense of the story..... and in my head, the question I kept asking myself was.....

Truth is the second part in this intelligently written series and the tangled web created by Aleatha Romig continued to grip me and blow my mind..... It's not just simply about the relationship between Claire and Tony..... There's so much more going on, the past, the present, the thought of what will be in the future.....??? But, it's Tony and Claire that tugged at my heart and kept me on the edge of my seat for practically the entire book.

The emergence of Claire’s defiance, independence and strength gave a new dimension to this story of superb substance. Do NOT think it's a series about a week heroine because it's quite the opposite, her character never failed to disappoint me; she's a fantastic heroine caught in a web.

Without a BR on this book I may have gone crazy!! I think Mo and I spent as much time talking about it, looking back at our highlights, and coming up with theories as we did reading. I LOVED every damn minute!!!

What a treat!

But before I tell you about this book, I have to tell you about the Consequences Series Support Group here on GR. They have ongoing buddy reads for these books and reading in a group makes the experience even better, imho. Here's the link:

This book is quite brilliant and I highly, highly recommend it for any reader who would normally enjoy a dark romance and doesn't require her reading material to be morally, emotionally or socially appropriate.

I was obsessed with this book for the day and a half (and much of one sleepless night) it took me to gobble it up. For that alone, I want to give it 5 stars. However, there were flaws so I don't feel I can do that. I will probably come back and add that 5th star in a couple of days if I can't stop thinking about it. Its highly readable and gripping and shocking... just delicious.
ETA: Had to do it. Please refer to the fifth gleaming star at the top.

This book is practically unreviewable for me. There is just no way to capture its story or my reading experience, but I will at least try to say something helpful.
Here goes:

It might be helpful to know this is a mixed-genre novel. It has a Psychological Thriller feeling to it because it tells a story about the battle between a protagonist and antagonist which plays out like a battle of wits and is dark and disturbing. It also has a strong Romantic Suspense quality in which a sassy heroine is plunked into a dangerous situation and has to figure her way out. There's a lot of plot surprises and developments. There's help from some sexy male characters and there's definitely relationship development going on*. All this is wrapped up in the new mind-fu*kery genre (isn't that the name of this captive, non-con, not-quite-BDSM, power dynamic stuff in which the heroes are actually the "problem" but can be heroic in a pinch?). If not, that's what I'm calling it until someone gives it a proper name.

For those who may have been a bit yuck or meh about the first book in this series, I want to encourage that you will not find any of the same writing issues in this one. Do yourself a favor- pick it up right now. Read it today. Do not pass go!
I consider to be a prequel to the "big show" (which is this book right here).
Word.

*I got a bit of genre definition guidance from bookcountry.com

What lies behind Appearance is usually another Appearance.

The saga continues..........

Anthony Rawlings : The diabolical character whose true face had been revealed by the end of .....whose vendetta for vengeance had led to consequences so monstrous that it had left me stunned, gaping and still with shock......is once again not who he truly seems to be.

I had been sooo sure that in he would receive his comeuppance and would face the consequences of his actions and he does but just not the way I'd thought........

Reading this book was like walking in a room whose end seemed so close and yet as soon as you think you're near it, it would go farther away......

Things are not always what they seem; the first appearance deceives many. The intelligence of a few perceives what has been carefully hidden.

So true and I had forgotten that the truth as it appears may not turn out to be the truth......that everything as it appears may not be in reality the same......that the players, the chess pieces, the opponents...no one was as they appeared to be ........

New players, cunning subterfuge, shocking revelations, and an unknown opponent whose moves changes the dynamics of the story and whose presence everyone is unaware of.....this story has it all.....

The story begins with unforeseen circumstances leading to Claire's release and from then on, people, it's a roller coaster ride in the dark.......because nothing is as it seems.....

Claire, a mighty woman....who appears submissive and meek but proves that she is definitely more than that....who rises once again....just not in the way I had expected.... A thing long expected takes the form of the unexpected when at last it comes. .....I should have known.

Change alone is eternal, perpetual, immortal. And who would have thought that my feelings would change so drastically regarding the man who I had considered the villain, the monster of the story? I definitely hadn't! Call me crazy because I'm in love......with Anthony Rawlings!

This is so...

As astounding and amazing it may sound, Tony had actually loved Claire.....despite his actions and the resulting consequences....So what led him to do the things he did?.....The mystery is unraveled slowly and slowly....the enigma called Anthony Rawlings is revealed but that is not all.....

Tony’s realization hit months ago when he realized it didn’t matter if she were dressed in designer gowns with perfect hair and perfect makeup or newly awake with no makeup and tussled hair. He no longer saw the difference. For a man who valued outward appearance as much as Anthony Rawlings, that insight was shocking.

....For the first time in his life he’d dared to believe in happily-ever-after.He learned at a young age it was unattainable. Therefore, he’d never even tried... until Claire.

...His words were barely audible. That was all right; they weren’t intended for anyone except the woman who wasn’t there. “I’m so sorry... for everything... why? ... why did you leave me? As the tears coated his cheeks he told himself, Anthony Rawlings doesn’t cry. He doesn’t apologize, and he doesn’t cry...

Oh God....after this how can anyone resist him?.....Move over 50 shades...there's a new man in town...Tony (there are so many shades, facets of his personality that counting them is pretty much redundant)...*sigh*....

This what my Tony looks like....

But it's not over people....the unknown is still out there and no one knows....-There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know.-.....you'll find out.

So don't miss this opportunity to find out the Truth....fasten your seat belts and prepare yourself for the ride....venture into the dark without the flashlight(because it's not gonna help you anyway :P)....

Do I need to say more?....just read and find out because all that appears in this review is not as it seems to be..... ;P

WTH!!! WOW!!!! ONCE AGAIN I'M SPEECHLESS!!!!

I feel so emotional drained with this book. Once again the ending was so jaw dropping. When I thought I had this book figured out something totally different happens again. I'm left feeling like....

Another MindFuck Ending

In the beginning of this book, I loved the new Claire. She finally grew some lady balls and stood up for herself. She came to her senses and wanted to get revenge against Anthony for all the horrible things he did her. She even developed this "Don't mess with me cause I don't play that" attitude which made me so proud. Then, all that hard work went straight to hell and Claire really disappointed me. I wanted Claire to keep fighting back and make Anthony beg for forgiveness, but that didn't happen. She became weak and helpless Claire all over again and now I just think she is so stupid. I seriously don't feel sorry for her anymore.

A big round of applause goes to Aleatha Romig...

Photobucket

Mrs. Romig did the impossible. She actually made me see things in a different light when it comes to Anthony. I'm so confused!!!!! I don't know how to feel about him now. I still don't like him, but I don't hate him anymore if that makes any sense. Don’t get it twisted!! He is still a psychopath though, but with a sweet side lol

This book was amazing!!! My hat goes off to you Mrs. Romig. You're such an amazing author!!

Photobucket

I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!!! Overall, I loved this book!! Definitely a must read now!!!

re-read April 2019

5 +++++++ Stars

The web is just getting more tangled, with every answer we get we are left with more questions. I think this is the book that made me fall for Tony hard, as we are shown bits of who he truly is and why he did some of the horrific things he had done in book 1. Again there is just to much going on in these books to even try and explain it and this book is even more intense and full on than book 1.

I still feel the same for this book as I did in 2015, I think I love it even more now. I have read so many books and series since I first read this and I can say with all honesty that this is still in my top 10 series ever read!!

I have to say how amazingly written this series is. Filled with angst, intrigue, suspense and drama it is why I will always 1-click any dark book Aleatha publishes, she is the queen of the dark twisted alphas. I also want to give props to the narrator, at first I was bummed that it was just a lady narrator reading all the characters but after a while it didn't bother me. She needs recognition as these books have so many characters and she plays them all well.

2015 review

5 MIGHTY STARS

I LOVE this series it is in my top 10!!!! The books are long but because they are written so well and there is so much going on the pages turn easily. I am skipping the companion books because I just need to know what happens :-).

Anton/Anthony Rowls/Rowlings makes you hate, love, fear and lust all in one page. I like books that contain hot and steamy bedroom scenes so it surprises me that I love this book and it doesn't have the explicit scenes in which an erotic reader is accustomed but seriously who cares when the writing and story is so FANTASTIC.

Soooo, Tony's revenge went perfectly!!!!

Claire is rotting in prison, his cogs in the evil vendetta machine are still turning.... People will PAY!!!!

After the start of this book i strapped myself down for a showdown of the century. Tony was the cruel, manipulative bastard in book one, now was time to even the grounds!!!! Claire was on the move and this was going to be EPIC!!!!!

Wishful thinking....

By the time i was done i hated Claire bloody Nichols and the horse she rode in on.

Allow me to elaborate:

She gets out of prison, and goes to California, to see Simon's fiancee and to plan her revenge against the bad Tony R. She suspects that Tony had something to do with his death. She makes some progress, Tony closes in on her. Nervousness fills the air, the situation is charged.

They met on several different occasions and discussed what he did to her. First, she did not think about personal safety (like telling somebody to stand by in case he would try to pull something, i mean he did drug her once before and carted her off). Second she never thought about getting a small pocket sized recorder for any of those meetings. And he had shitloads to say. I dunno about you but common godamn sense of preservation should be enough to get you thinking if the colorful past wasn't enough. The time in between she spent wishing that she had something to hold over him. No....DUUUUUUH????

Tony, however, in the outside world displays new characteristics that even some James Bond villains might be impressed with. I mean the man knocks down firewalls of Internet Gaming Companies like they are made of paper, keeps close tabs on his ex-wife and all the other players in his revenge, manipulates Claire with a bat of his eyelash, runs his billionaire empire, crashes websites by whim alone and holds the world press in the palm of his hand!

*queue music from Tomorrow Never Dies*

Yah, this about the press.... Claire is so upset that he can make her story disappear. Dafuq? She spoke to only one reporter, only one... What happened to the others? She wasn't hounded by anybody else about her exclusive story, even though she was creme de la creme of the rich, and had a scandalous past. They should be all over her like white on rice. And i don't care how fucking rich you are, you can't stop gossip magazines from rolling their ink. Freedom of the press and all. But noooooooo. Tony managed to deflect one story and Claire was dismayed.

*eye-roll*

But true to his old character Tony sneaks in her flat and rapes her. To prove to himself, to her, to us, that she belongs to him.

In the meantime she develops a relationship with the beautiful and most importantly NORMAL Harry.

Of course that didn't last. Tony pulled Claire back in his web, and she followed his rules like an automaton. Appearances, don't make any private matters public. She nods her head like a stupid fucking idiot she is. Many times she could have just called out, twisted her arm away. Sprayed some pepper spray (witch she never bought).. Aaaaaarrrrrggghhhh.

I don't see their romance, i am sorry. I will NOT vote them the couple of the year. That is still the man that kidnapped, raped, brutalized, beaten and humiliated her constantly. And she gets all calf-eyed.

And he is not sorry at all. He is just selfish. By his own admission, he would have had no problems killing her or her sister if he did not fall for her. Love apparently did not have the same effect on him as it does on normal people. He doesn't give, he takes. She lives, because he has the hots for her. Lovely....What women out there wouldn't melt?

She wound up pregnant with Tony and runs away for her own safety, because Tony can't get over his revenge.

His motive for this revenge? His grandfather made some illegal moves while building his empire and got busted. He died in jail. Tony promised that everyone involved in his demise would pay, and their children, and their children's children....... see what i mean???? Everybody else has to pay their due but not good ole Tony or his family.

He is a mean, spoiled brat and a bully.

All this stupidity gave me a headache.

There is a third book, and with all honesty i don't give a rats ass what happens.

Honestly one of the worst books I've ever read. By halfway through the book I honestly believed the heroine deserved every bit of abuse she ever endured.

What a fucking weak ass pathetic heroine. She tries to come off as strong but she's still weak and never puts up a fight against Tony. After everything he did to her and all her new found support she still has no backbone and immediately accepts everything he demands of her.

What an absolute idiot. There were an infinite number of times where she could have easily made a scene in public or told him something as simple as "FUCK YOU" but she never does. She just lets him abuse her without s fight.

She deserved everything she got for being such an absolute idiot. The man ruined your life as well as the lives of all the people around you. Not including the fact that he definitely had a hand in your parents death and yet you can't bring yourself to tell him to fuck off? You agree to every demand without a fight?

I lost all respect for her when she wept with joy over seeing Catherine again. The same woman who stood by day after day knowing Claire was being raped, beaten, and abused and did NOTHING.
Are you kidding me? This woman is a mother figure to you? You stupid twat.

Oh and let's not forget to mention the fact that Tony rapes her after drugging her somehow and she ends up pregnant. YET SHE NEVER QUESTIONS THE SITUATION. She thought she had dreamt the night up or was hallucinating but really he had broken into her home and raped her.

I just can't even begin to understand how she doesn't question how the fuck she is pregnant or get furious over what he did to her!???

Ugh I hate this author and this shitty book. I'm done.

You cannot make the same mistake twice. Because the second time you make it, it is a choice.

Claire and Tony's mind blowing story drove me to the brink of insanity. So many TRUTHS were revealed in this book. left me bored until the last 11% where the story took a major twist. Truth gripped me right from the start and became unputdownable.

Ms. Romig did an excellent job creating a story full of mystery and suspense. Only two other series I have read have been able to create a master puzzle that keeps your attention and has you on the edge of your seat: The Original Sinners and Love Me With Lies.

For all those who I told that they were crazy for being Team Tony...I'm officially apologizing! I was wrong. Please forgive me; Kara, Renee, Christy, Monika, Jaqueline (and anyone else I missed). Friends still?

Re-read 10-10-13 in prep for Convicted. 4.5 "crazy ride" stars!

I re-read this book in prep for Convicted. I remembered it had lots of characters and a rather complicated plot, so I decided a refresher was prudent. I'm happy I did too. Not a whole lot of my opinion has changed since the first read... It's still very mysterious, captivating, shocking at times. Towards the end, we start to get some answers to all the secrets hidden behind Tony and each character's involvement in his plan. A lot of shockers are thrown in also. Moving on....

Previous review.....
I didn't think Ms Romig could do it but she surely did! Holy Moses! I did not see that coming! Loved loved loved this . It's on my favorites shelf for sure. I had no clue. So many twists to the story. This needs to be made into a movie! She kept me captivated, at the edge of my seat. My hands are trembling just typing this. It is impossible to review this book thoroughly without giving away parts of the plot and answers that lie in the end so I'll be vague. New people come into play with this book and all tie together in the end. There's still a "what's going to happen next" component but I'm happy with the end as it stands. I can't wait until Convicted is out. Write fast Ms Romig. You have a gift! I never thought my hatred of Tony could lesson.....but it did. BRAVO!
