This was just not what I was in the mood for and definitely not the caliber romance that I am used to from this author. I LOVE her MC club series and have been a hardcore fan for a while. I think I’ve put off reading this because I had a feeling it would be more...debut-like, being that I think this predates that series.
And I was right.
I was thoroughly enjoying her recent rockstar series, but got to the end of book two...realized book three hadn't been released yet (my bad!)...and was bereft. So I figured I’d give this a shot too...but this was just a little too campy for me and, in my opinion, not as good as her more recent stuff.

Received as a free read during the promotion for the sqequel. Took me awhile to get around to reading it, but once I did, I was hooked and immediately grabbed and devoured the sequel, Onyx Shadows. Fantastic start to a new series. I really hope there are more to come.
Onyx is the perfect paranormal heroine. She's the perfect combination of sweet, sexy and innocent without being TSTL or annoying.
Cole hits every one of my sexy-professor kinks. If only my college had professors like him!
If you like shifter stories that are a little different, you'll definitely enjoy Catnip and Cauldrons.

Hot, hot, hot!
(I hope this isn't a spoiler*)
I love the whole shifter in heat trope. Plus, there's a sexy professor! Love the whole forbidden professor/student thing. There aren't a lot of domestic cat shifter books out there, so this was a gem to find! Very promising new series!! Ends on a cliffhanger, so I was happy to find the second book.

I love AJL's Lost Kings MC series and I love PNR, so I had to give this one a try.
Onyx Night is the first of a trilogy. We get to meet the characters, learn their backgrounds. It's a fast-paced and very steamy novella. So if you love shifters, insta-love and hot scenes, this book's for you.
I'm curious about what happens next and yes, I'm a fan of Cole's.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. My rating is 3.5 - 4 stars.

The Verdict?
Totally brilliant! The cat and mouse chase is thrilling, the sex is well written, and I absolutely love the paranormal were-cat. Not many out there are just regular house cats, most involve the big cat variety. But, I cannot express enough how well the author seemed to get into the mind of a cat! The high and mighty attitude, the curiosity, even the movements. I was completely enthralled! (As I myself am a cat person, there is some bias there. Sorry.) As this was just the first in the series, and the second has already been released... I know what I'll be reading over the weekend! "Onyx Shadows"!

Everything I love in a paranormal, shifter romance and a little something I like from mainstream romance.
Solid story. Sets the tone for the series. Very hot romance between the two main characters. I like that Onyx is a strong character. She needs Cole's help but also uses her own smarts to get the job done. Had to auto-buy the next book!

Magical story
So I love this author's other works and was intrigued when she released this story. Naturally I was curious and snatched it up right away. Little did I know, it would be a great story that I devoured. The only downside was it ended too soon.
Onyx - such a strong and independent character. I liked how she was written and how she dealt with everything that happened. I also feel there is something big in store for her and can't wait to read the next book to find out.
Cole - yeah he's a hunk of a teacher

Onyx Night is a quick, light read about a werecat and a sorcerer with a nice balance of romance and action. Great start to a series!

Another great book by a skilled author. I'm a huge fan of her MC series, so naturally I couldn't wait to read the start of her new series. The chemistry between the H and h is flaming hot, but doesn't overshadow the intrigue and mystery. Looking forward to book two!

Nice beginning of a different style of writing for Ms. LAke but I just love everything she writes. This is a paranormal sexy romance. Cole definitely has the markings of being a good hero! Enjoy this short book.

I love all of Autumn's books the LOKI series especially. Whilst I prefer the LOKInooks to the C and C books they are still extremely good books and great reads. AJL is a great author and her books are without exception well written and gripping.

Good beginning
Nice beginning to this paranormal series. It focuses heavily on sexy scenes. Hoping in future the books are more substantive while sill sexy but this one did set the plot. Definitely worth reading

This book was a little different than what I am used to reading but since I love all of Autumn Jones Lakes books I gave it a try. Still impressed with her ability to tell a good story and it captured my attention. I would continue to read this series if she expanded upon it.

Onyx Night was a fun magical read. I enjoyed the idea of this story, werecat, and the community / politics the author set up along the way, they seemed natural.
Onyx is a college student and when her parents tragically die, a change is forced upon her. The ability to turn into a cat. But that's not all that's being forced-- people she has loved all her life are trying to make sure Onyx never leaves...
This book is the first in the series. The ending doesn't end on a cliff hanger, but is left open enough for the next book to come into play.
I really enjoy paranormal and think the werecat is a neat plot to play out. I easily connected with Onyx as the main character and can I just say- LOVE that name!
The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because the ending came so suddenly.
But as far as first in a series I'd say if shifting, magic, and a bit of mishap is what you enjoy in a book--this one is worth a read.

Omg this author can really write just about anything. I loved it and wanted more right away. The story is not one I personally have read before anywhere along with hearing about it anywhere before. Amazing I don't think covers it. Like I dont even have enough words to say what I think, I'm left speechless. The characters are really wonderful Onxy and Cole are fastly becoming my fav couple. They have so much life and love that you can feel it come right off the pages. I really don't like Wilson or Marie they make me so mad the whole story. okay I can go on and on about this story but I really think this is one short story every paranormal lover would 100% love to the end.

I think this book is a great start to the 3 book series!! The story was interesting and sucked me in from the beginning!! I really enjoyed reading about shifters and magic and murder and some REALLY hot sex!! I definitely recommend this book which is the perfect length to read in one sitting, and I really look forward to reading book 2, which I hope is very soon!! It doesn't end in a huge cliffhanger, it's more of a Happy For Now, but you know from the beginning there are 3 books, which is just more to enjoy!!!

I finally got this book. Finally. I read it in about forty minutes I think? It wasn’t long at all, which made me horribly sad but then it also didn’t; because this is what my friends would label a fanfic, one called porn with plot. To explain there was a tiny bit of plot or story, only so that the porn could happen. While maybe not wholly true it’s very close. I was looking forward to seeing some kitty shifters, but instead it is just another tool to have the porn happen.

One of my favorites! Onyx Night is a sexy, quick, novella about Onyx, a werecat and Cole, a sorcerer who against all odds are determined to be together.
I love Onyx! She is sweet, but also goes after what she wants. Cole is a completely drool-worthy book boyfriend. Together they are great.

Very good start to series
I've read Lake's MC series and I like this magical world of Catnip and Cauldrons just as much. Cole and Onyx are interesting characters. I like how we get a glimpse of Onyx's parents through her mother's writing. There's some steamy scenes. There's a little twist too.
