Three photos of three unknown women. Sent to Deputy Chief Jess Harris by the Player, one of the world's most sadistic killers. No leads on the children were ever found-until now.

Ruthless Is Riveting, Thrilling, And Worth Every Second

Compelling Romantic Suspense always is expected in the Faces of Evil series but, in Ruthless, Debra Webb raises the bar.ÌýWhile frantically investigating two serial killer cases, the recurring characters also are dealing with a plethora of emotions, not the least of which are fear, anger, and desperation, and so are you. By the end of Ruthless, you will be happily depleted but eager for the next book, Vicious. Yes, Ruthless is that good!

To those not familiar with the series,Ìýthe main characters are Dan Burnett, Chief of the Birmingham Police Department, and Jess Harris, the Department's Deputy Chief of the Special Problems Unit. Dan and Jess were lovers twenty years ago. Dan now is her boss and her lover again. Jess, a former FBIÌýprofiler, returned home to Birmingham following a botched case involving serial killer, Eric Spears a/k/a “The Player,â€ who still is obsessed with her.Ìý

Jess is an acutely intelligent, independent, and driven heroine who continually does things her own way, even if they are outside of police protocol. Dan does not like it, but he accepts it. He also is very protective of Jess much to her annoyance.

Since her return to Birmingham about one month ago, Jess has dealt with murderers, taunting texts and gifts from Spears, drug lords, and threats to her life. When Spears sends Jess photos of three unknown women, she knows that he is ready to “play the game with her and that one of the women will be his next victim. Jess desperately wants to find the women before Spears can claim another victim. While she is frightened for the women, Dan is terrified for her.

Unfortunately, Jess is forced to redirect her attention from Spears to the Man in the Moon serial killer when he delivers to her the thirteen year old remains of his last victim. Thirty-three years ago, a little girl in Birmingham was abducted from her home on the evening of the Harvest Moon. For the next nineteen years, one little girl disappeared from her home on the night of Harvest Moon. When he continues to deliver the remains of the little girls to Jess, she is scared that his thirteen year respite is over and that he will resume taking little girls. After he does take a little girl before the Harvest Moon, Jess and her Team, Chet, Lori and Cook, work furiously to solve the case and save the child. But, will they be in time to stop the Man in the Moon from killing again?

Meanwhile, Dan and Jess learn that Spears has a “network of worshipers who are doing his bidding with respect to Jess by watching her and making threats on her life.

As if Jess did not have enough on her plate, at 42, she is worried that she may be pregnant with Dan's child. She also is wreck about her sister, Lily's mysterious illness.

While Jess manages to hold it together most of the time, she is her most vulnerable in Ruthless. While she does not fear for herself, she is afraid for Dan, forÌýSpear'sÌýpotential victims, for the little girl taken by the Man in the Moon killer, for her sister, and for the baby she is carrying if, in fact, she is pregnant. She also makes a few professional and personal mistakes which is unacceptable to her.

Dan and Jess cautiously but surely are moving toward a future together. Likewise,Chet and Lori are together dealing with the issues developing in their relationship.

There is sufficient deceit, betrayal, unknown killers, and twists to keep you captivated. You probably also will be exhausted from the pace of the action.

Ruthless is the sixth book in this series. While it is a stand-alone read, you may prefer reading its predecessors, Obsession, Impulse, Power, Rage and Revenge. I guarantee that if you read Ruthless first, you will go back and read the earlier books.Ìý

There is a reason Ruthless received 4 ½ stars from RT Magazine.Ìý

I highly recommend Ruthless, and the other books in the Faces of Evil series, to any one who genuinely enjoys Romantic Suspense, that is, a balance between the two genres.Ìý

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Book number six in THE FACES OF EVIL series, RUTHLESS, is a whirlwind of mystery and intrigue. Debra Webb expertly conjures up an evil predator who has been silent for the last thirteen years. When he suddenly reemerges, the children of Birmingham, Alabama are no longer safe. Will Chief Jess Harris be able to catch this monster and get him off of the streets before another child abduction can take place?

Chief Jess Harris has her hands full. First she receives three photos of unknown women by the Player, one of the most depraved killers in the world. Then she receives a package that contains the human bones of a young child. After an examination of the skeletal remains is preformed, it turns out to be a victim of the Man and the Moon killer.

Young girls went missing for years, once a year on the harvest moon. For the last thirteen years the killer hasn’t been heard from, until he started sending his gruesome mementos. It is Jess mission to find out what has brought the Man and the Moon back to life and also figure out if the two killers are connected in some way. But time is running out, the full moon is coming up quickly. Will Jess be able to stop an evil killer in his tracks?

This is the 6th book the Faces of Evil series, I was given a copy of the book by Ms. Debra Webb for an honest review.. with that said, I think this is my favorite book of the series.

Dep. Chief Jess Harris has a serial Killer sending her Text messages and photos of three girls that she knows he has added to his collection. She has also just received a package from another Killer that is known as the Man in the Moon. He hasn't been heard from in years and all of a sudden Jess is getting the remains of the missing kids.

Chief of Police Dan Burnett is in love his her, No questions asked. He has been in love with her since they were in High School, but when he made the choice in college to go back to Alabama. I don't think that Dan has ever forgiven himself for leaving Jess. But now they are finally back together and he knows that she has a Serial Killer playing games with her, she has been shot at, followed, and now that The PLAYER is back he knows that he has to keep Jess close.

I Love Debra's books, like a lot of Mystery books they keep you wondering who is the Killer, I had the killer figured out about half way through but I couldn't stop reading it because I wanted to see who and how they would come up with. I love the characters in the series, not just Jess and Dan, but Lori and Chet, with his son Chester, and Officer Cook, and the other Dep. Chiefs, I love that Jess is spending time with some of the other ladies in the books as well..

Way to go Debra I can't wait for the next book to released!!

I loved it! This is an action-packed story that makes you want to keep reading without putting it down. You want to know what happens next. I was up until after 4am finishing it.

Jess is still looking for the Player who is still taunting her and sending her gifts and messages. He isn't the only one interested in Jess now. She is developing quite the fan club. Another murderer who was dubbed the Man in the Moon, wants Jess to find him. He likes to send her gifts, also. She is so worried about all the victims and is feeling pressured, stressed and very tired. She is not on her guard like she usually is. Her boss and boyfriend, Dan, is so afraid something is going to happen to Jess and he won't be able to protect her.

Ruthless is the 6th book in the Faces of Evil series. You will love these books and the author knows how to keep the story interesting and exciting.

Debra Webb continues to keep us the reader involved in the story. Especially in book 6th she is dealing with several series cases, one is an old- cold case “The Man in the Moon, which is a very old cold case. The other one is with Eric Spears, who seem to not go away, and now both cases are at the for front of her cases.
If you enjoy suspense with romantic then you have pick the right book. For me I so enjoy the element in trying to figure out the how, and the why, and the when. Debra Webb is just that type of writer, because she keeps you on the edge of your seat, thinking you know the fact, and then she has to add more twist and turns to the story. Her books are like a roller coaster that has the thriller aspects, and you will enjoy the ride. You need to get this book now!!! If you haven’t read this series you need to pick them up today!!!

Debra Webb continues to enthrall in this next book in the series. Jess has to deal with not one but two seriel killers vying for her attention. Eric Spears is back to haunt and taunt Jess. The Man in the Moon a very old cold case has reared his ugly head and draws Jess into tryig to fid him. The whole time Jess is dealing with rather large problem in her life... is she pregnant or not. Debra Webb does a superb job of expressing the anxst that Jess feels as she tries to work the case and come to terms with if she is or is not pregnant. Cannot wait for the next book in the series and the prequel of when Dan and Jess met up at the Publix.

“Ruthless is book six (6) of the Faces of Evil series by Debra Webb. After reading “Revenge, the prior book in the series, I had to read this one. It did not disappoint. It continues the story of Jess Harris, Deputy Chief of the Special Problems Unit of the Birmingham Police Department. A former FBI Special Agent, she left the Bureau and came home after her mistakes let a serial killer go free. She has renewed an old love affair with her boss, Chief of Police Dan Burnette. The serial killer has been is taunting her with text messages, but now he tries to unnerve her by sending her pictures of women who are presumably his intended victims. As if this was not enough action, Jess receives a package full of bones, which turn out to be from a child victim of “the Man in the Moon. The Man in the Moon is the name given to a serial killer of children, inactive and not heard from for thirteen years! Another suspenseful romance full of unanticipated plot twists has come from the pen of Debra Webb, and you won’t be able to put this one down. I couldn’t!

Wow! Debra gets better and better with each installment of this series!

This book take my take "the man in the moon" to a whole another side for me! This book was very hard to put down, only when I had too! Watching Jess & Dan is something, I rather enjoy... Dan will come to terms with what he did in the past sooner or later... it may just be sooner... Someone from the past comes back and Jess has to deal with them, and she rather not.

I can't put much more on my review because I rather you purchase this great book/series! Great Mystery with a lot of action... This is a mini movie playing in my head... Can't wait for the next book!

OMG, Deb has done it again.

Each new book is better than the last. The psycho's are giving Jess and Dan a run for their money. With the man in the Moon Killer back after 13 yrs and Eric Spears spotted in town Jess has her hands full. Oh and is Jess pregnant or not? The answer is revealed at the end of the book.

OK Deb, We are ready for the next installment.

Remember to read 1-5 first.

Whew. This series just gets better and better. And lordy Ruthless got me all churned up. Not only is a serial killer continuing to taunt Deputy Chief Jess Harris but a long gone cold case of 20 missing little girls from 30 years ago has landed on her desk with a reappearance of the kidnapper. It's a lot for a girl to take on but dang was it captivating to watch it all unfold...

The mystery is the main focus of the book and, whew, like I said it was a gut wrencher. I felt like I was right there with the detectives dealing with the discoveries, the frustrations and turmoil involved with the search for the little girls and answers to who took them so long ago.

I really loved Jess's determination. She's an incredible heroine and even though she's dealing with some personal dramas she puts every single thing she has into tracking down the criminals and bringing justice to these families. She's really a heroine you can look up to and admire.

While there's next to no heat factor I was really happy to see more romance coming out this time. Jess and her boss Dan seem to be slowly moving forward now that they've admitted their feelings and I liked seeing the subtle changes and how they interacted. They really have an interesting relationship...
He reached for the quilt to cover her up but hesitated. He should be ashamed of himself but he couldn't help admiring those long, toned legs and the curve of her bottom. The desire to crawl in bed beside her was nearly overwhelming, but she was armed and he wasn't taking any chances.

This is definitely one I recommend reading in order since it follows the same characters through different cases and they kind of build on the previous ones even though the particular story arc is solved each time. I really like that you learn more and more about not only the main lead Jess and Dan but each of the secondary characters that make up her team of detectives as well. It's really fun getting to know their quirks and how their relationships are developing.

All in all I'm really loving this series. It's not a hot and heavy romance but a very slow burning one that takes back seat to the murder mysteries but it's working for me now. Webb does a great job of pulling you in and keeping you invested in what's going on. If you like cop murder mysteries this is definitely a series to check out.

In the short time Deputy Chief Jess Harris has been back in Birmingham she has certainly solved some brutal cases with scary killers, and one stalking serial killer who follower her from Quantico, and reconnected with Chief of Police Can Burnett. Jess has a great team by her side and with Dan trying to keep her safe she may take down some awful people who torture for fun and kill for attention. There is some resentment at her new police headquarters, issues with her FBI background, but overall the job is starting to click. Jess is trying to keep her relationship with Dan on the down low, but that is proving to be much harder than she expected and something she is getting tired of the more in love they become. Good police work will over rule any issues her co-workers have about her sleeping with the boss, right.

The bright lights are on Jess again as another case is brought to her door. A dormant child serial killer has decided to come back. Having worked under a particular pattern before seems to be a help and hindrance, as that one piece of evidence connecting them all cannot be found.

There are so many things flying at Jess to close the case that she is pushing any personal issues aside to get this wrapped up and closure for the family provided. When the killer starts leaving presents and clues like crumb she should follow, Jess starts down that road but the problem is before a lead can be followed it becomes frozen and goes nowhere. Slowly Jess begins to connect the dots and figure out the single connection between all the cases and it will go faster if the stalking serial killer still after her could be caught.

With each book in this series, Debra Webb pushes the story line up to an even greater level and leaves the reader wanting the next book in the series right now.

A thrilling, attention-grabber...One of the world's most sadistic killers, the Player, sent Chief Jess Harris three photos of unknown women. While trying to solve this case, an old case re-opens. Children were being taken on a full moon. All of a sudden, these disappearances stopped and the Man in the Moon case went cold. Someone begins sending Jess mementos of the missing children, that were never found. Is this the Man in the Moon resurfacing, a copycat, or one of the Player's games?

This book was full of action and it was hard to put down. What a page turner! Jess is a tough girl and doesn't show fear in the face of evil. She is determined and is willing to do almost anything to get to the bottom of a case. In the book, Jess has a lot on her plate. Not only does she have the Player playing games with her, but she is the main recipient of the items sent from the missing children. The author did a fabulous job at holding the reader's attention and creating such intense scenarios that Jess gets into that the book is near impossible to put down. I really enjoyed this book and am interested in reading more from this author.

I received a copy of this book for free through Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ First Reads.

As the 6th novel in Debra Webb’s Faces of Evil series, Ruthless is just a glimpse at the Evil that lies in wait. Readers of this series will never say “oh poor Jess. We know better. Jess is a magnet to all things vile; which she welcomes like the breakfast that she just can’t seem to keep down. It is what it is, much to the dismay of her loved ones. We have finally seen cracks in Jess’s emotional boundaries that maybe hinting at what’s to come. She may actually have to take some of her life back from this Evil and figure out a way where they can each share a part in her future. Ruthless is tower of unsteady story pieces that keep climbing and when we least expect it, they all start to fall into place. With the exception of one, Spears. Again we have been sucked into Jess’s world of twisted evil, that we all know doesn’t end with Happily Ever After.

As with the rest of the books in this series, Ruthless begins right on the heels of book 5. Jess's world is crumbling around her but she has to find the strength to carry on because things are about to get a whole lot worse. Spears is closing in and vows to take another victim, Ted Allen is still missing, and now a cold case is about to get a whole lot hotter. The Man in the Moon case went cold about 13 years ago. Every year for 20 years a young girl would go missing on the night of the harvest moon never to be seen again. One day a package shows up addressed to Jess containing the bones of the last victim with a note for Jess.

Jess is forced to open old wounds going over evidence 2 decades old trying to shed new light on this case that had Birmingham's mothers and fathers living in fear for their daughters. During the investigation Jess finds herself dealing with Eric Spears, The Player, as he gets closer to her. Jess receives a package with the pictures of 3 women. One he vows to kill. Jess has to work with her old colleagues at the FBI trying to find these anonymous girls before Spears gets them.

We also get to see the relationship between Jess and Dan progress as never before. Even with all the danger surrounding her, Jess finds herself with a personal problem that could change her life forever. These characters are wonderful, well rounded, and relate-able. I can't recommend these books enough. Debra Webb draws you into this world effortlessly and you find yourself drawn in from page 1. You won't be able to put it down! If you love suspense, buy this book!

"Ruthless" is another A+ in the Faces of Evil series' by Debra Webb. Deputy Chief Jessie Harris is back still on the trail of the "Player", a heinous serial killer who goes after young women who look like Jess. In the midst of this hunt a dormant serial killer the "Man in the Moon" who once struck every harvest moon returns.

For 20 years a little girl disappeared in the middle of the night from her bed. They were never seen again. Then it stops for 10 years until he begins sending Jess packages containing their bones. With all this, another innocent little girl is gone. Can Chief Harris and her detectives find her in time? There is also the fact that Jess has not started her period.... how does she tell her boss and lover Chief of Police Dan Burnett? And is it really fair to bring a innocent child into all this and would she be able to keep that baby safe?
Be prepared to do nothing else but turn pages because this is a really hard to put down read.

Thank you to Debra Webb, who I seriously hope never stops writing and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ for my copy of Ruthless!

His methods are Ruthless.
Ruthless, book six of the Faces of Evil series, really kicks things up a notch. Instead of one crazy sociopath trying to get Jess’s attention, she now has two. After a 12 year hiatus the Man in the Moon has returned and wants Jess to find him. For twenty years, every fall on the harvest moon a little girl disappeared from her bedroom in the middle of the night. There were no clues and the children never found. As inexplicably the abductor, dubbed the Man in the Moon after the fairy-tale, began he quit. After all the years of silence he’s revealing his crimes to Jess and taunting her to catch him. At the same time, the Player and his followers have upped their evil cat and mouse game.

As with the previous books, Jess is able to resolve the case of the week while the Player remains elusive. In a slight departure, the true motive for the reappearance of the Man in the Moon is never revealed. This will drive Jess crazy as she is very focused on motive. Hopefully we will come to a quick resolution before it drives her nuts. Another strong entry in the series that just keeps getting better and better.

Deputy Chief Jess Harris has her hands full with a child serial killer. For more than a decade has passed since the Man in the Moon killer has been active, but now he is back and bringing his "prescious bundles" to make Jess and her team try to bring an end to his killings. Looks are deceiving, and so is this serial killer. While tracking the Man in the Moon killer, Jess is still being stalked by another serial killer, The Player. He knows her every move and is ready to deal with her one-on-one. Again, Debra Webb has topped herself with this novel. I didn't think she could create such a sinister killer, but she has. The location for this book is set in Birmingham, Alabama and other surrounding areas. The last child abducted was from the City of Hoover and as a resident of Hoover, I was thrilled to read about areas I am familiar with in her book. Being a southern writer, Ms. Webb has the lifestyle and traditions down pat. I cannot wait for her next release. I received my complementary book from a Good Reads give-a-way for my review.

What can I say? Webb did it again. She gets better with every book in this series. I am not the type to bore you with a summry of the book because I figure if you are reading this you have already read that. So what I have to say is I loved it how Jess and Dan's relationship grew in this book. I am also intrigued by the other relationship in book between Chet and his partner with all the obstacles they face. How Webb is able to keep all these books flowing so perfectly without skipping a beat is pure talent. With that said I recomend that you read these books in order because there are spoilers about previous books mentioned. Now with the first half of the series finished I can't wait to see what evil Jess will face next and what Spear's has planned to make her life a living hell.

A long-dormant Birmingham serial killer, the Man in the Moon, has started sending the bones of his previous victims to Jess. And her nemesis, Eric Spears has returned to the United States and is taunting Jess with pictures and presents. Obviously, he has help. So Jess needs to find the Man in the Moon before he starts killing again and find Spears or his minions. And one of the departments detectives is still missing. Things are very busy at the BPD.

I think this might be the best book in the series so far. Jess is still stubborn but she has toned down a bit. The personal relationships in the book are proceeding nicely. The hunt for the Man in the Moon was exciting. And the threat of Spears is creepier than ever. I am excited for the next book in the series.

Ms. Webb nails it again. This time Jess is up against a new sicko who snatched children for twenty years before he just stopped. Now he's back and fixated on Jess. Plus, there's still that damned Eric Spears lunatic in the background. And he's upping his game. Definitely another story to keep you biting your nails all the way through. My only niggle is that the running story with The Player needs to wrap up soon. It's like getting just a taste of something amazing again and again until sooner or later your tastebuds get weary. Jess needs to put a bullet in this guy and be done with him, so she can move on to busting other bad guys.

I like the series and the characters of Chief Burnett and Asst Chief Harris. What I question why the FBI no so little about the Player. Once they discovered the surgery the Players assistant why did it take more time to discover more about the Player's followers. Supposedly the FBI learned their lesson with Manson not gone around with their heads in the sand.

The other thing I didn't like is as intelligent as Jess is and with the medical attention she needed due to injuries why didn't the doctor question the results of the blood work?

I have pre-ordered #7 and I still don't like serial novels but when you are hooked you are hooked.
