I never write reviews but for this one, I'd to. I'd so much hope for this series when I read the first book. But all went spiralling downward in book 2, and book 3 just pissed me off. A story can be a dark romance without relying on abusive theme. And this one, out of hundreds I've read, just crossed the line. (Spoiler alert) When the hero branded the heroine with a hot poker in book 2, and later in the beginning of this book, the hero cut up heroine with a knife, she's crying and hurting, and when after all that torture, he tries to gets her off, she orgasms and all is fine in the world. Really? Will it kill y'all to be a bit more realistic? Why do you have to turn the heroine into a mindless nymphomaniac everytime the hero pulls shit like this so you can continue with the story? It's abuse, it's not pleasurable, and it's certainly not pleasurable to read.
In the first book, I expected the heroine to be a fighter, but she greatly disappoints in subsequent books. It pissed me off that the hero gets away with all the abuse and the heroine doesn't makes him work for it.
This theme would've been fitting if Rafe was the true villain and in the end, the heroine would've managed to kill him, run, get therapy, and live her life or just died. But we all know, Rafe is the anti-hero, and no matter how shitty the way he treats Isa, they'll still be together in the end, all will be forgotten with an orgasm.

Less repetitive thankfully. We get added drama with her family and more interactions with other characters to make it more interesting. Heroine finally has some growth too, although she can be a bit annoying at times still, she actually started to stand up for herself. Also, finally she gets preggo! I like seeing a different side of Rafe since we are so used to him just pretty much being harsh all the time, and I really hope we get to see him with more pregnancy or baby moments in the next book🤞

Safety:

Completely safe although heroines sister tries to cause a bit of drama

It's getting ridiculous now. He kidnaps, brands, whips, strangles her, and uses her body whenever HE pleases and yet she loves him. Forget 'he's awakened her inner demon', this is Stockholm syndrome! Isa is a young impressionable virgin who never left her state let alone country. She's naive at best, gullible teenager looking to be herself and stop pleasing her family in all probability. But is she really being herself with Rafael? He's molding her to like his sexual tastes, how he likes his woman to dress (yes she's unable to select her own knickers ffs!!), where she goes and what she does is all meticulously controlled by him.

At one point the book insinuates that maybe she has as much control of him as he does of her. This is utter nonsense. Rafael is obsessed with her, and she certainly has no control. This story isn't dark, it just pathetic. A dirty old man obsessing over a teenage virgin. It's like tasting an unripe strawberry, until you taste a juicy ripe sweet strawberry, how can you compare? I doubt Isa would be given the breathing space to compare.

Their relationship grated on my nerves throughout most the book, however something happened 70% in that I couldn't cope and skim read to the end, to be done with it.

I don't know if I'll read the next instalment, a small part of me wants to know what happens, a bigger part of me doesn't want to read anymore of the toxic relationship between Isa and Rafael. I love a dark romance where the woman grows a backbone (and doesn't succumb to whatever she's put through because he made her cum), and the man shows cracks of weakness because the love he feels softens him, whether he like it or not. Its almost like a transformation between the two, as the female strengthens, the male softens and they meet somewhere in the middle.

This series unfortunately has no female empowerment (unless Rafael allows it and calls Isa 'mi Reina'.. although he's also quick to point out it will always be on his terms). It's just one way traffic from the sociopath besotted with Isabel, not my kind of dark romance.. if you can even call it that.

ALL MY REVIEWS CAN BE FOUND ON MY BLOG:

line

Star Rating : 4.5 / 5 Stars

POV : Dual

Cliffhanger : Yes

Hero : Rafael

Heroine : Isa

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 7/10

Triggers Involved : kidnapping , Stalker , Forced Pregnancy

Plot Summary :
Nothing that Isa knew about herself is the same now. There are chances that Rafael has betrayed her again and she doesn't know what to make of that. Even though Rafael says that things are different this time, that he is as much shocked as her, she is inclined not to believe him.

They have no option but to search for answers now. It's clear that Rafael's father was a twisted man and there is no way that Man left any trail of his crimes for them to track but they are going to try. On their quest to search for answers, they find some shocking facts that can change everything they knew about each other and their past.

Overall Opinion :
Holy shitttt I don't think I can ever have enough of Rafael. The man is literally at the top of all anti heroes for me! Adelaide Forrest strikes again! It astounds me the way this author always writes such amazing books! This series is my top read by her and by God, it just keeps on getting better and better. I don't know what to think because she doesn't give us any clues!

Every book, every chapter is a shock in itself and I can't even tell you guys how much I am loving it. The ending of this book is a cliff hanger too and I can't believe the ending myself. I am back to square one now, begging this author for my next fix for this series!! I need it sooooo much.

I would highly recommend this series to all the psycho hero loving people! Rafael is someone you don't want to miss meeting. Although, this book has a lot of triggers and I'll mention them above so please keep those in mind before picking up this series.

ok, this actually has more plot & action than the previous books. the h also learns to stand up for herself a bit (to other people, just NOT to the H 😒). i love the H still, but this dysfunctional dynamic with the h is getting tiresome. i also didnt agree with the family drama, especially the evil twin angle. idk i feel like the h is purposefully made (by the author) to have no one in her corner, except the irredeemable as$hole hero, which is simply...tragic. her blood family is not the best, but i didnt like how they were treated as if they were expandables or served only as a plot device. the h is losing them one by one, but she doesnt seem to be all that torn up about it. her grief passes by like swish swish. 🤷‍♀

mini thoughts on:
#0.5 Until Memory Fades 3 stars
#1 Until Tomorrow Comes 3.25 stars
#2 Until Forever Ends 2.5 stars

Christ on a cracker! There were so many OMG, WTF, and Oh no he didn't moments that I don't even know where to begin with this one! Just when you think this series can't take another turn, the author throws another twist right into the mix.
Rafe and Isa, after discovering a new piece to the puzzle, return to where it all began - Chicago! Think you had it all figured out at the end of book 2? You're in for a surprise lol! There were so many things I did not see coming and new wrenches are thrown in that take the story in a whole other direction!
This series just gets better with every book. The push and pull and the fiery romance between Rafe and Isa ramps up even more in Until Retribution Burns. I love Isa and her growth has been phenomenal thus far, but I feel like we still are waiting for that one moment where she emerges as the queen she is and shows her true power to those seeking to destroy her. I want to see her step out of Rafe's shadow and show that she's not just his little woman kept at home from harm. I want to see her protective instincts and that fiery temper come out in the face of their enemies.

Can we, just for a moment, talk about Rafe?!?! At first, I was like he's so jealous and possessive (insert starry-eyed stare) but I think we've moved WAYYYYY past that now! This man gets better and better! He will gladly punish or kill anyone that touches, wrongs, or hurts his woman be it friend or foe. He wants to stamp his ownership on every inch of her body and in every way conceivable so that anyone looking at her knows exactly who she belongs to. Oh wait, it doesn't end there. He ALSO wants HER to stamp HER name on every inch of HIS body so anyone looking at HIM knows exactly who that delectable body belongs to! *Swoon* He's unapologetic about it and at times he takes it a bit far. Still, he recognizes his faults and doesn't hide his true nature. And if there was an Olympic sport for sex, this man would win every freak gold medal available! This series has hands down some of the HOTTEST freaking sex scenes I have ever read! Adelaide Forrest deserves her own gold medal for thinking this stuff up!

I am both excited and terrified to see where she will take us in book 4!

3.5 stars!

Rafael and Isa's story continues and everything Isa thought she knew is wrong. Isa is worried that Rafael isn't being honest with her and while she feels like she is sitting in ashes, she begins to realize how to rise from them. With new information and threats, Rafael and Isa have to search for answers and discover the whys and hows of Isa's past. Along the way even more shocking revelations are revealed that could blow up everything they've ever known about their past and present. Will Rafael and Isa rise from the ashes as the Queen and King they were meant to be together?

I have loved this series. It's dark, dirty and suspenseful. Rafael is the ultimate anti-hero and I adore his ruthlessness and obsession of Isa. Isa is starting to be a stronger force in this book and I like how she has changed to face down all that is happening. However, I felt like this one could have been consolidated into their final book. Until Retribution Burns ends on a cliffhanger but it still brings all the heat and depravity that the first two brought. If you like dark romance, I highly suggest picking this series up.

Rafe is back and just as possessive as before but now his princess is transforming into a queen as they both uncover some secrets in their respective history. I continue to enjoy this quasi mafia romance of these made-for-each-other lovers. The language is quite flowery descriptive, which makes this a definite medium burn veering toward slow, and by now the third book in the series, I’m tethering on a faster pace for more story progression. Still loving these characters though.

Others may find this book dark, but it remains mild by my standards. There are dark themes, of course. This book, this series, continues to deliver on fiery steam with Rafe’s dominating prowess probably one of the more sensual series I’ve read.

Another biting cliffhanger as I look forward to the next book and Isa and Rafe’s realization as this series concludes.

Isa and Rafael are in a vicious cycle of push and pull, give and take, as they continue their journey. Between outside forces, internal influences, and Isa's family, these characters are struck with blow after blow, never getting a chance to just be.
Until Retribution Burns is a dark read but so incredibly well written and wonderfully entertaining.

3.5 stars

The words use and overall review shouldn’t reflect personally on the author or any other of her series and books.

When I first read this book I went blindly not knowing what the first two books were about, the description attract me and I said I had to read it. Wow It was too much for me hhahaha like One I was completely lost, I didn't know the characters before hand. Two Like I wasn't prepared for so much. Like if I put pass the not knowing what was the previous books It was a good book. So if you are looking for a possessive Male Alpha, A Plot with twists, Sexy scenes this book is for you. I gave it a 3.5 Because once again I didn't like the female lead that much.

I don't know why I keep reading this. I'm just as much of a masochist as Isa is.

In this book, the main plot is discovering the secret and all that. There's family drama and whatnot. In despite of all of this, RAFE STILL GETS NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. He's the same sick sociopath he has always been and the relationship lacks any type of love. He does not regret any of his actions even though he knows they're wrong and they hurt Isa. He does not care about her and its clearly shown when he keeps saying how all he wants is her submission. At the same time though he wants her to fight him?? Like make up your mind, do you want her submission or her rebelling?

Let's not even talk about Isa. The actual idea of her going from the princess to the queen is actually quite nice and I thought it was nice in THEORY. In actuality it wasn't. She never stands up for herself when it actually matters and just accepts everything that is thrown at her. You can't tell me that she actually loves the guy. At least she seems self aware that it's stockholm syndrome but it makes me so mad how she keeps forgiving him time after time. There is no talking about issues and whenever something bad happens, they always just end up fucking.

Rafe realises this and uses it to his advantage. He knows she won't do anything if he just fucks her so she just ends up forgiving him for everything each time. Also she keeps on saying how she's gonna murder Odina and whatnot but there's no showing of this? The author keeps telling us how mi reina is this badass woman but all I keep seeing is this weak girl that's been manipulated into being something that she's not.

Rafe keeps saying how her family put her in a cage but is he really any better? He admitted to wanting to break and rebuild her into something that he liked. I remember one of the lines saying how he loved her just the way she was but if he really did, he wouldn't have wanted to change her in the first place.

I don't know who needs to hear this but this is not romance. This is just straight up abuse. I can dismiss a lot of things in fiction but there is a very fine lie between kinks and something pleasurable and just straight up abuse.

The plot itself is not much better either, there is so much going on and yet nothing at the same time. Without giving any spoilers it just feels like the author has thrown in all these new ideas to keep the reader hooked. She probably knows that her characters are fucked up, beyond being redeemable in any way, her writing boring so what she does is make up for it with all these crazy plottwists that honestly I find hard to believe. It just seems so unrealistic even for fiction.

Rafe is also a massive hypocrite. He doesn't want Isa to keep any secrets from him and yet he seems to have so many of his own that he is unwilling to share. It seems like everything he says, he's always contradicting in some way and it gets tiring. His dominating act isn't hot or sexy and it's just exhausting to read knowing how he's never gonna change. He's never gonna become lovable and no matter what everyone says to him in the book, he is more alike his father than he could ever think. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree after all.

He's also hella unrealistic. Everyone's concern for Isa and her safety is completely valid and him just wanting to kill everyone in her family isn't great. How can she honestly be okay with the murder of her family because let's be fucking for real, she would 100% forgive him if he did end up murdering every single one of them. I was honestly baffled when reading this book.

The only thing that's keeping me going to keep reading this series is that I've already come so far and it would be a shame to drop it now. No matter how many times I wanted to dnf this entire series.

Normalize stopping at a duology.

What i love about mafia books like these is that we all KNOW this is screwed up and wrong but we're animals and love the danger anyway. This whole plot where Isa is like "I CHOSE HIM AND YOU ALL HATE ME BECAUSE YOU MADE CHOICES FOR ME ALL MY LIFE AND ALSO BECAUSE IVE BEEN WANTING DANGER THIS WHOLE TIME SO IT'S ACTUALLY YOU GUYS WHO ARE WRONG FOR CARING ABOUT ME"
yeah i was not a fan.

Like, bffr girl.

So yeah Isa got on my nerves. Forrest was trying to give her this arc from "mi princesa" to "mi reina" and i definitely see it but it felt rough and forced and also uncharacteristic. Isa was molded into this new person in order to "fit" Rafe better, but I feel like she fit Rafe best in the first book. Idkk im bad at articulating this stuff, but bleh, everything was kinda dragging too.

The MMC need to talk with his mouth and not his dick.

Hmmmmm..... this have a little mystery and it's getting a very interesting. Comparing to the second book this one has a stronger plot especially at the beginning.

Even though the MMC can be abusive and strong-willed I never really was scared of him however in this book I was a little nervous especially when he keeps on lying to the FMC about his involvement in children trafficking.

The FMC sister is so annoying oh my gosh!!! They need to get rid of her. The rest of the family was okay I actually understand the apprehension of the FMC husband to be honest.

Now Thinking this book series could have been a duet instead of a four part Book. I still enjoy it however I would not have continued if I wasn't listening to it on Audible.

i read the first two in may thinking this one will be the last one, but once i started this one months ago i discovered that this is again another cliffy and of course by leaving it after the first chapters months ago i forgot a few stuffs from it and it's so annoying 😒.
Anyway i hate to love Rafe :D, in this book he was really good, in the other one's i remember not being to happy about a few things he did BUT i do like him ,and i love how devoted he is to her.
Isa really annoyed me most times and i'm so over her everytime overthinking each thing Rafe's words or intention like come on , i get it at the start but not after, it's getting really old.
This story is to long because i feel like at some points is a little ripetitive, i skipped a few scenes .
Anyway i will read the conclusion of it.

"Until Retribution Burns" is the second continuation of Isa and Rafael's story.

The fruits of the devils' sins take root, and our heroine comes to terms with her captivity. Whether it is his insane obsession with him, or her reciprocated love. She has to deal with her own turmoil, as well as the judgement from her family and friends. Secrets of the past are also uncovered. But when an accident threatens those nearest to her, what will they do?

Another thrilling ride! Cannot wait to read the conclusion.

How to word it right. I did like the first book. I think it was honestly the best. Second one was already shaky. This?

Biggest problem here is, that it's the typical route of betraying body syndrome. I wanted her to be afraid and not orgasm and be all dandy and shit but truly afraid of him or when she finally wanted to detach herself from reality then bam orgasm and all was awesome again.

I love anti heros and villains, who gets the girl, be that abusive, toxic whatever but I want realistic approach to feel how this all comes together. Very well done is Twist me, deadly vows and sinister kisses. You could feel all of h's being really afraid of H not being bipolar with their mind and body.

But first book will be re-read for sure.

OMG, this book blew my expectations once again. This is a great book and read it in a day and a half. I was soo excited that I wasn't able to do a lot of my work. Also, Isa and Rafe so much love and there is a twist here and there that needs to be answered!! I also thought the ending was mind blowing and I had to re read it since I was like ... wait what Author you didn't and of course, she did and I was so happy and now I have to wait till the last one... it will be really good I can feel it in my bones. What is in the book without spoilers: family drama, love scenes, epic turns and surprises, hatred sister ( yes she is back... still is wondering why Odina hates Isa.. I hope we get a clarify soon I need it. ) Anyways I love you isa and all the drama.. also rafe I want to blow up and send you to the ocean but I still want you to come to me and do the dark twisty kinky things to you too. muhaha

I received an ARC and this is my own opinion and personal honesty for the book.

3stars only for ML's manipulative way for making this book work
I don't like the FL..!! She just stays angry for one chp and after that the issue nvr exists!! I skip her pov most of the tym... Coz even after skipping it I did not find any miss in the story... Rafe'e pov is interesting everything is very clr and on the point... And for Isa she didn't even know what she was doing and what's best for her making the same mistakes of forgiving everyone again and again even to ML... Like forced pregnancy on an 18th year old is no joke!! She should be brave and to taste him his own medicine should have gone back to the island.
To be honest the author has dragged the story in 4 books if she wanted she could wind it up in 3 books since ML is doing everything in the storyline... He would have found the truth much earlier without the melodrama of Isa and her family tbh

It all starts with Rafael going to Chicago for a business trip when he sees a beautiful girl across the street that he just has to have. When he finds out that she underage and still in high school, he launches into a 16-18 month plan to find out all the information he can possibly find on her on her while putting his people in place to befriend her and gain her trust. Once Isa graduates, she goes on a trip to Spain with her friends and meet this incredible guy, Rafe, that sweeps her off her feet. And when she tries to leave and go back home to Chicago, Rafe decides to keep Isa all time himself....forever! And from that moment the story of Rafe and Isa is one hell of a ride you don't want to miss!

Listen I read this book in a box set and I cant tell you how many times I just kept turning the page not knowing which book I was reading because it that good. In book three is where I felt like the story line was really good but it dragged on and on. Yes, it very action packed and keeps you on your toes but it's very repetitive when it comes to Isa and her need to get under Rafe skin. Don't get me wrong, when Rafe is mad they have some of the best "moments" but the story could have been wrapped up in this book.

I appreciated the initial intensity that Rafe brought to the story, making the narrative engaging and unpredictable. The chemistry between Isa and Rafe added depth, and witnessing their relationship evolve was satisfying. The portrayal of Rafe's character, initially over the top, eventually allowed for a more nuanced exploration of his complexities. As Isa demonstrated strength and resilience, the balance of power shifted, creating a more satisfying dynamic. While the series maintained its intensity, the evolution of the characters kept me invested, resulting in an enjoyable and well-executed narrative. Solid four stars for a compelling story that navigates the complexities of passion and power dynamics.

What the heck!!!
I really thought it couldn't get any better, wrong so wrong was I.
Book 3 made me feel everything, Rafe had me pulling wtf faces many times - but i still love him.
I love Isas character development, shes turning into a such a confident woman now who isnt afraid to speak her mind.
Rafe continues to be the hot, obsessive alphahole but thats why i love him.
So many secrets exposed which made my jaw drop.
And the ending - my kindle nearly got thrown across the room.
Adelaide you've done it again - freaking amazing book, roll on book 4.

The mystery behind Isa and her twin ending up in the Chicago River when they were children starts to unravel as Rafe's obsessive abuse of Isa continues. The two relentlessly justify why their toxic dynamic is acceptable as Rafe continues to cross every single boundary Isa tries to establish. Isa tries to convince her family and her best friend to accept the choice she doesn't even have to stay with him. Because Isa is trapped, whether she likes it or not. She hates him but loves him and I'm so confused and borderline disappointed. I'm starting to think the only HEA I'd accept is if Isa finds a way to leave his ass.

Odina's war with Isa seems to have no end in sight, either, and the bitterness and spite there is unreasonably intense. If there's a redemption arc for Odina in the next book, I'm not sure I'd buy it.

Isa's mother is also starting to feel like a villain, which is unfortunate. There doesn't seem to be enough depiction of her mom's guilt toward what happened with Odina to make that the reason she essentially turns her back on Isa. If the reason Isa was her favorite is because Isa used to do everything that was expected of her and never did anything wrong until she made a decision the mom doesn't agree with, then that makes the mother a garbage human.

I loathe Isa's and Rafe's dynamic at this point. I love dark romance, but this gives me constant sexual and domestic abuse vibes with no redemption in sight. To me, it got repetitive and became less and less satisfying. I'm not sure I'll finish the series, though there's only one book left. I barely got through this 3rd installment.
