The sixth of seven daughters, she studied at the Birmingham School of Art and became a writer and illustrator of children's books, in particular for Ladybird Books.
A delightful, beautifully illustrated children's book, which tells the tale of two naughty kittens.
Told in verse, the kittens eventually are forgiven by a most understanding mother! It might by a book aimed at the younger reader but it is great fun for the older reader - certainly it was for me!
We read this book again today having not read it for some years. This book was a bedtime favourite. The storyline is perhaps a bit basic and old fashioned, two kittens up to mischief and trying to steal some treats, but my children really enjoyed the story and we all think the illustrations are gorgeous. The kittens are lovely, the illustrator has done a wonderful job of making a kitten stand on back legs and look like a child too. The picture of them eating their stolen jam tarts is beautiful. A ladybird classic.
Love the illustrations, and the viewpoint, which is that kittens will be kittens, as children will be children, and needn’t be punished for doing what comes naturally! Of course, this was published in 1942, and only the rich are now likely to have a cook and a maid!
