Santana Knox is a Brazilian author, a South American immigrant, a mother, wife and witch.
Santana got tired of letting the voices in her head drive her crazy, and decided to write down the stories they were begging to tell instead. A lover of the unusual, and a hopeless romantic when it comes to toxic villains, Santana's books should always be taken with a grain of salt, specifically the kind that keeps demons away.
Queen of Nothing by Santana Knox is a gripping and darkly seductive start to the Reina del Cártel trilogy that left me breathless and craving more. This novel plunged me into the shadowy depths of the criminal underworld, where power, betrayal, and raw desire collide in a thrilling and unrelenting narrative.
Queen of Nothing Santana Knox
Opinion
The story centers around Cecilia Flores, a woman whose life has been shaped by the ruthless ambitions of the surrounding men. As the head of the Flores Cártel, Cecilia is no stranger to danger or the high stakes of the criminal world. However, when the very destiny she fought to carve out for herself is stolen, she finds herself on the run, seeking refuge in the most unlikely of places—among the very men who have every reason to want her dead.
Ronan Zerkos, Santos Ãlvarez, and Mateo Kane are the enigmatic leaders of the Black Crow Brotherhood, a fearsome and brutal crime organization that holds Cove City in its iron grip. These three men are as dangerous as they are captivating, each bringing a unique blend of menace and magnetism to the table. The tension between Cecilia and the Brotherhood is palpable from the first encounter, as the scars of their shared past threaten to rip open old wounds.
The dynamic between Cecilia and the three men is the heart of this novel, and Knox deftly weaves a tale that is as much about survival as it is about power and control. The romantic and spicy interactions between Cecilia, Ronan, Santos, and Mateo are steamy and intense, adding a layer of complexity to the already volatile situation. Their relationships are fraught with mistrust, revenge, and a raw, almost primal attraction that Knox captures with a deft hand.
What sets Queen of Nothing apart from other dark romance thrillers is the strength of its protagonist. Cecilia Flores is a force to be reckoned with—a woman who refuses to be broken, even when the odds are stacked against her. Her resilience and cunning make her a compelling character, and watching her navigate the treacherous waters of her relationships with the Black Crow Brotherhood is nothing short of riveting.
The plot itself is fast-paced and full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Knox does an excellent job of balancing the criminal intrigue with the romantic tension, ensuring that the story never loses its momentum. The world-building is gritty and immersive, drawing you deeper into the dangerous world of the Cártel and the Brotherhood.
However, Queen of Nothing is not for the faint of heart. The novel’s dark themes and explicit reverse harem content may not be suitable for all readers, and Knox doesn’t shy away from the more brutal aspects of her characters lives. But for those who enjoy a darker, more complex romance with a side of suspense and danger, this book is a must-read.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Queen of Nothing is a thrilling, steamy, and utterly addictive start to the Reina del Cártel trilogy. Santana Knox has crafted a story that is as dark as it is captivating, with characters that will stay with you long after you turn the last page. If you’re looking for a dark romance that will keep you hooked from start to finish, this is it.
CW for child rape, abuse, incest, torture, claustrophobia, gun violence. This is a lot darker than I would have liked. Multiple POV’s so you’re getting everyone’s thoughts, but not a lot of actual romance. There were a lot of inconsistencies. The next book is even darker according to the author, and I’m not interested in that.

Cecilia Flores has been prepared her whole life for the crown that she will one day take. Queen of the Cartel, that is her destiny and she is ready for it. Until her Uncle steals her throne out from underneath her causing her to have to hide away and run so that he doesn't catch up to her. When he begins to close in, the only place that Cecilia can go for help is the man who's heart she broke twelve years ago. He wants her dead, but she's hoping that there's still some part of that boy she fell in love with still in there. Her betrayal shaped Ronan Zerkos into the ruthless leader of the Black Crow Brotherhood that he has become - now he's known as Berserk. Along with his brother's in arms, Santo and Mateo, the three of them run the most violent and powerful gang in the city. In order to reclaim her throne, Cecile will have to survive the hell they put her through and hope that when she comes out the other side, they're behind her.
I was excited to read this one. I haven't read very many mafia reverse harem stories and I'm keen to explore more because I love the strong, morally grey characters that we're sure to meet in them. This one definitely delivered on that and I'm keen to see what happens.
We first meet Cecilia when she's younger, we get to see her life as her father is the head of the Cartel, we get to see some of what she went through in order to be trained up to take his place one day. Fast forward a tiny bit and we see her relationship with Ronan evolve and how her father reacts to this while she is still being trained and prepared. We see the tragedy that unfolded which brings us to Cecilia now, hiding and on the run when she should be sitting on the throne of the cartel as their Queen. When she appears at Ronan's doorstep the reception she receives in not entirely what she hoped for but it is what she expected. Having never told Ronan what her legacy and future was meant to be he has no understanding of what she's dealing with or running from, though he'll do his best to break her in order to find out the truth.
I absolutely LOVED the beginning of this book. Getting to see Cecilia's upbringing in preparation for the crown she will one day hold was amazing, and I loved getting to know this character from such a young age. I was keen for when she appeared on Ronan's doorstep appealing for help because I couldn't wait for things to unfold. However, I did find that once we hit the middle portion of the story, the pacing kinda fell in a bit of a hole. I get that this part of the book was giving us a chance to get to know the male love interests a bit more in the way that the reacted to her torture and captivity, the way their feelings towards her changed as the days progressed and how they treated her differently from the the other captives. I also loved that even though these are some bad men, their motives and goals are actually something that I can get behind. I just found that the bulk of the book felt a bit repetitive with her days in the tower, though I understand that this also gave a chance for more information to be given due to the flashbacks Cecilia experienced due to the torture she was going through, so I'm not super mad at it, I just wish it had have moved a little bit faster. This book was definitely a set up for what is to come and I'm super excited to see how things progress and I cannot wait until the guys realise who Cecilia actually is, that is the main point that will probably keep me reading.
Cecilia is such a strong character and I absolutely adore her. She is calculated, brutal and dangerous and I am here for it, her story just has me enthralled and I can't wait to see how it unfolds as the series progresses. I love Mateo and Santo's characters as well, Ronan I'm still on the fence about, but I understand that his prickly exterior is due to the betrayal he felt when Cecilia up and left in the middle of the night. I'm keen to see the moment when he realises why she did it and that in the end she was just trying to protect the one man she has ever loved. There is still so much to be unpacked an explored in this story and for these characters and I can't wait to see what happens.
The story itself is just beginning, as said above, this was definitely a setup instalment where the foundation has been laid for the story to build on. I'm keen to get right into the story and see what's going to happen with Cecilia as well as the guys. I also love that we got a bit of a look into the Black Crow Brotherhood and their agenda and what they stand for, even though these characters are bad people, deep down I believe there is good in there, but they need to get their hands dirty in order to help others and they're not afraid to do that.
The world building was done well, and gave enough information in order for the reader to understand the way the Cartel and the gang organisations work without getting too bogged down in the details. There were violent and sexual situations in this story but they worked so well for it, they weren't just being used for shock value they were used to allow us as the reader to get a feel for certain characters and what they stand for, as well as character and relationship development, which I loved.
All in all, this was a good first instalment, it's really opened up the way for amazing things to come, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when Cecilia finally reveals all, I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for that moment, you have no idea. This has me wanting to delve deeper into the Mafia, Gang and MC stories that I've been putting on the back burner. I'd also love to eventually get an offshoot for the Motorcycle club that we encounter in this series, I feel like there is a wealth of stories just waiting to be told there!
4-4.5 stars. I was lucky to be given an ARC of this book and let me tell you, I could not put this down.
The FMC Cecilia is the heir to the Cartel Throne until her uncle steals it away from her and she loses her entire family. She ends up living with her boyfriend and friend who she runs away from in the hopes of protecting them from her uncle. She ends up having to turn to same people she ran from which brings us to the present story.
I loved the different themes throughout the book, including enemies to lovers, second chance romance and a possibility for friends to lovers.
All three men in this story have different personalities so there’s a little something for everyone. Cecilia and Ronan have a love hate relationship because she ran away from him and continues to keep secrets. Santo is sweet and Cecilia can rely on him. And Mateo is unpredictable and has a heartbreaking story which Cecilia relates to. I can’t wait to see where each of these relationships go.
It is a dark romance but in my opinion, it didn’t feel overly dark or dark just for the sake of being so. Everything that happened had a meaning behind it. And the spice was great!
This book ends on a cliffhanger. I’m very excited for the second book!
I REALLY wanted to like this book. I saw a lot of hype about it recently on my booktok feed via Tiktokâ€ and the worst part to me was that I saw the potential for it being a GREAT story in the beginning. But, I didn’t like the execution of it all. It felt very repetitive throughout the latter half of the book. I found none of the characters to be likeable 🤧. The only reason why I did not “dnfâ€ this book was because I have a hard time putting down a book even when it pains me to continue reading it and like the tiktok audio says “I have to see it through my boyâ€ 🥴🤧😵â€ðŸ’«ðŸ« ðŸ«
Queen of Nothing follows Cecilia. She has lost everything and still has more to lose. She ends up running from her past to gives those she loves ha future. But when she can't run anymore to runs to the very men who might just want to kill her the most. She runs to the Black Crow Brotherhood; where Ronan Zerkos, Santos Aĺvarez, and Mateo Kane rule. Will the past and past vendettas come back to haunt Cecilia? Will she break? Or will her strength and perseverance prevail to keep those she loves protected?
Cecilia.... my queen and saviour!!!! Her strength, stubbornness, and unhinged-ness are unparalleled. I want to be her.
Seriously, Mateo is sooo good. Not as in like a good person 🤣🤣🤣 but his character his 🥵 just got chills thinking about him!
What To Expect: ▪︎Listen you all this series is DARK. Really dark! It's not for the faint of heart. Trigger Warnings âš ï¸ (may contain spoilers) below.. but not an exhaustive list. Please be aware! * Violence * Mention of drugs * Explicit language * Torture (psychological and physical) * Dub-con * Claustrophobia *Child abuse, rape/incest (not within the harem or with the female main character). ▪︎Morally Grey FMC ▪︎Morally Grey Villianous MMCs ▪︎Why Choose? ▪︎Lies, Secrets, & Betrayals ▪︎Cártel Dark Romance 18+
This is a good first book in the reverse harem, enemies to lovers, dark romance series. I haven’t read many dark romance books, or any cartel books, so this is all new to me. I enjoyed the author’s world building which made it easier for me to understand the setting and circumstances of the characters.
Cecilia is such a strong character and her resiliency was great to read. Despite her harsh upbringing and the ruthlessness that was ingrained into her at a young age, she was still able to care for and protect others. The chemistry between her and Ronan was explosive, and the chemistry between her and Mateo was sweet and smoldering.
The author’s development of Ronan, Mateo and Santo’s characters was well done. I could feel their dedication and loyalty to each other, even when it was strained. Each man’s relationship with Cecelia was different and served a different purpose and need for her.
This book was well written and the author set a good pace. It’s a quick and easy read which I recommend you pick up.
Thank you to @katieandbreypa and the author for my complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own.
Pages: 282 Style: Contemporary, Second Chance, Enemies to Lovers, Dark, Twisted, Suspense, Reverse Harem, Gang, Cartel.
I am always up for a cartel dark romance, and this didn't disappoint!
If you are after:
- morally grey MMC - Super strong, resilient, and overall badass FMC - gang/cartel violence and drama - slow-burn RH romance with some deliciously spicy scenes - A deep understanding of a child growing up in a cartel - love, lust, hate, betrayal, and forgiveness - torture, games, and danger - And, all the tension and angst, then check this out!!!
I thought this was a great read, I have only marked it down slightly as I feel the writing needs to be polished slightly, but overall it had an engaging plot, interesting characters and good pacing. Great work Santana.
"She was f*cking with all our heads, and she didn't even know it."
This is my second book by Santana Knox. I enjoyed this book for the most part. It does, however, have one of my least favorite tropes in it. The “I have to lie to you to protect you trope is so irritating to me. In the beginning I get it, I understood why she didn’t tell him when she was 15 years old, and even at 18. But when she came back? She would have put him in way less danger if she just said the dang truth. I did enjoy the book despite that trope though. There were times when I wanted to strangle Ronan though. He was at times cruel for no reason. That closet was awful. I did hate how Cecilia is supposed to be this big bad cartel heiress but she spent 12 years running. In that time she didn’’T even think to formulate a plan. That’s not very leader like to me.
3.6, plot inconsistencies and would have liked to see more of Cecilia and Ronans relationship prior to her betraying him. It would have probably helped me like them as a couple a bit more. Overall a fun read, very dark!
I wasn't expecting much from this read, my other half got for me because he knew I'd appreciate the cover 🤣 I didn't even know what it was about. BUT MY GOODNESS WHAT A READ it was so intense and so nice to step away from fantasy!! I can't wait to read the next two, I'm on the edge of my seat!!
I honestly wished she was more physically strong. She was definitely mentally strong. What her father put her through made her that way. BUT it's hard to believe he didn't teach her how to fight better than any man. Regardless, this was a good book. The romance is dark and toxic, but I can't wait to see what happens.
Wow! I honestly didn’t know what I was in for when starting this book, but nothing could’ve prepared me for this wild ride of a story! Santana Knox weaves a story that is dark, full of anger, violence, sex, and screaming with realness. Cecilia is NOT a victim, she is La Reina in every sense of the word. She is not your typical fmc, she is tough, savy, able to withstand ANYTHING thrown at her , and also surprisingly very adept at realizing her own flaws. This is not a HEA book/series . It is DARK, gritty, violent, but there is beauty in that darkness and a strength that only comes from such. I cannot wait to delve into book two to see how Zerkos, Mateo, and Santo unleash hell on those who would dare touch La Reina.
Ok, give me a minute to catch my breath. This was SO GOOD! Usually with series, I feel like the stories are dragging for no reason but to fill up a few books. Santana throws all the rules out the window and I love her for it. This is refreshing, unusual and caught me completely off guard. The slow climb of every relationship, the small nuances of each character as they evolve. I’m happy. I mean, don’t get me wrong. It is violent, crazy, and none of these characters are innocent. But it is also well written, full of passion and with a fierce Latina FMC. What else do I need? Oh yeah, at least five books on Ceci, please.
So in the beginning and the book started off well. She's a heiress.
Who knew Ronan would become a crime leader is a brotherhood? I can kind of see where this is going. She's a queen, he a technical king sort of .
Weirdly, despite Ronan being the mean crime leader guy in most mafia or crime books, and despite the book being centered around crime, the book doesn't give that vibe off. Like nor in a bad way but when i think of how everything is going, i mostly see the characters adn not the crime revolving around them which i think is actually perfect.
Until shit does hit the fan tho but right now I'm actually pretty invested in this damn book and the characters and I know ronan and his crime will probably become problematic and violent bcuz of the target on Reina's head. They'll get back together bcuz he'll be possessive and everything and I'm sure she'll find some way to take down her uncle or at least close to or towards the end of the book.
Just a guess.
(My guess was sort of off but i was on the right track)
I like how She's not a coward but I don't want her to just take anything from the guy because she loves him still and is desperate.
Seriously?! A prisoner Reina. You're a reina for fucks sake. And once she become her true power, I would've paid ronan back tenfold for everything he put me through. Then sweetly loved him afterwards like he does to the girls. Mind fucking at best. Mwah.
It's nice to know he didn't want her to do it yet.
At least Santo has compassion. I like him.
I'm not going to lie, Cecilla is an asshole. Constantly she rucks Ronan who by the way treats her the worst out of them all and then is Santo who may care but barely even tries to stop her misery while Mateo has made it clear if she chose him then he would help at least more than Santo. She keeps not choosing him at all. Choosing the wrong one and she's hurting him by doing it. Just leave the man alone and not entertain him. Damn. It's annoying. She's an idiot.
I'm at the end of the book and the surprising thing about is, the book was introduced with her family needing to hide or run from the uncle. Ir gave the impression that's what the book was mainly about, but it wasn't. The main problem should've been her uncle which was used as a pretense to need "protection" and seek it from Ronan. But truthfully, the book was about her and the guys. Barely any of it had anything to do with her being a Reina or anything of a cartel. That didn't come until the end of the book.
Hopefully next book is more definite and explaining to the actual problem at hand.
HOWEVER like i said earlier, the book does focus less on the problems revolving around them and more so the characters themselves and I like that. I just hoped that the actual problem could've been more introduced and continual throughout the entire book.
I like the book and will be reading the second one as well right now.
I can see Santana Knox has a thing for multiple lovers in her books just like the Heartless Heathens

This book was freaking HOT! I absolutely loved the characters and the way that the story was written hooked me from the very beginning and kept me there all the way to the end! I immediately went and got Reign of Ruin because HOLY CLIFFHANGER!!! Then I promptly got destroyed once more with another EPIC CLIFFHANGER!! Now I’m officially destroyed until Empire of Carnage comes out in January 2023. . I have read a lot of mafia/gang type romance books but this one is NOT like any that I’ve read before. This is the first book I’ve read that focuses on what life is like inside of the Cártel WOW. The Flores Family is NO FREAKING JOKE. The book begins with the Flores Family fleeing Mexico when an attack is made on their home. Scared but unable to show it Celia at 8 years old is already her Father’s fierce Cartel Heiress keeping calm in the most traumatizing situation of her life (so far) When they relocate to Ocean Valley Celia meets Ronan and they form friendship and eventually a relationship. Known as Cecelia to Ronan she knows that he is only temporary as she will have to marry for influence/connections for the Cartel one day. When everyone in her Family is killed in a drive by shooting at the order of her TÃo Ignacio Celia makes the decision to go into hiding because as long as she’s alive her TÃo knows the Cartel will never truly be his. Unable to tell Ronan any of this she keeps the most dangerous parts of herself a secret and one day she makes a decision to leave him behind to keep him safe. Years pass and she decides to go to him and ask for protection as her Tio has never stopped gunning for her everywhere she goes. Ronan is now the Head of the Black Crow Brotherhood along with his two chosen brothers Santo and Mateo. Unfortunately for Celia he’s not so forgiving. At least not on the surface. Loyalties are tested and as the danger increases so do everyone’s feelings. And I do mean EVERYONE. . Solid 10/10 for me all around.
While I do want to read the next book and see how this story unfolds more, I feel the author missed a lot of opportunities to explore character development during the time jumps. Celia's character as the story progresses becomes almost a split personality. One moment she's a true cartel queen and the next she's a broken woman alone in her misery. While, both sides of her definitely make sense the transition between these mindsets could have been written more fluidly. Ronan went from this teenage crush to a cartel king in the blink of an eye and it caught me off guard a bit. Again the time jump would have been a perfect opportunity for character development and his journey from schoolboy to minor crime teen to combat vet all the way to cartel king. I also wish she had explored Caesars character much more. I honestly thought he was going to be one of her men and then boom he just leaves. While I appreciate his reappearance at the end I'm curious how he went from Celia's father's body guard to just leaving her to fend for herself and then ending up as head honcho for this notorious biker gang. While it was briefly touched I feel the emotional connection was abruptly severed and I just wanna know why so sudden.
With all that said...I love dark, steamy, villain gets the girl. Ronan is a heart broken boy bringing this trauma with him throughout his lifetime. Making his choices questionable. When Celia shows up out of the blue on his doorstep after years of searching for her with no trace his heart and head play a vicious battle against him. His heart wins out and now he's out for blood. Everyone in his path will die and he will not let her slip through his fingers again. This book ended on a cliffhanger right at a critical scene and I cannot wait to be able to read the next book to see how bloody he will paint his path to her.

Page turner! The beginning was amazing, chef’s kiss. Enjoyed the history of who she is and what happened to her and her family.
The bulk of the book takes place in Cove City, in the tower. There’s a lot of detail put into the world building of Ronan’s operation, which I appreciate because it shows why she returned to him as a means of protection. And, what his operation is about. However, at one point it seemed Celia became content being held hostage and focused on the relationships she had with these men. On one side it makes sense because the point was to break her to get the truth, and the other side is like are you your daddy’s daughter or not?? Where’s the game plan?? Are you taking note on how this operation can benefit you and your situation??
When Ronan and Mateo met with Cesar.. I echoed Cesar’s sentiments because how do you still not have a SINGLE clue as to who she is?? The crest is literally branded on her and there’s no indication if he was ever curious or if he saw the weapons he stole. Each situation was explained away, but it’s like he didn’t use all these years to look at the bigger picture.
I personally didn’t care for Ronan’s “brothers interests in the love of his life. Literally saw everything he went through because of her in his perspective and Mateo is like.. “but she’s fine and my head doesn’t hurt 🙄 Santos was perfect up to the end when his interest started to show and it’s like he’s the guy that’s friend zoned and just waits for an opening, but worse because they’re friends because of Ronan. I thought he would be her one alliance that gets her side as well, but respected his brother. In some ways he does because he doesn’t act on it, but still. HOWEVER, it’s like they’re falling victim to their own game.

Reina del Cártel series by @santana.knox was a freakin' wild ride! Loved every minute! First let me say, I went in not realizing *cliffhangers*! I rarely read books with cliffhangers because I don't feel like I have enough time to read series like this. Too many books and I jump around so often. BUT THIS SERIES Y'ALL!!! I finished book 1 and was instantly one clicking the next. Okay... the review... really is it needed after that beginning?!?! LOL This is a cartel, why choose (RH), dark romance, enemies to lovers with a bad a$$ FMC and morally grey, yummy MMCs. Cecilia Flores is heir to the cartel throne. She was preparing for this role since she was young. But after her dad is k!llėd, and she is too young to take over, she goes into hiding. Whoever placed the hit on her dad, would come after her next. She moves in with her high school boyfriend Ronan and his best friend, Santos. But when things get real, and their dealings touch on her family and the secret of who she is, she bolts. Years pass and she comes back to Ronan for help when she has no one to turn to... and this is where things HEAT UP! Ronan runs the city with his two best friends. He's powerful and has connections. And all he wants to do is make Cecilia pay for hurting him. Their intense connection can be felt and is oh so good. Santos has loved her since their young days. He's hurt and loyal to Ronan. Mateo is Ronan's friend from the military. He is the perfect guy to move the story along. But it is not only about the "love story". The story takes off and you witness Cecilia's strength and fierceness! Highly recommend!
This is book one in the Reins Del Cartel series, all books are out now so you don't have to worry about the cliffhanger. This is a very dark, why choose series so please take trigger warnings seriously! This was so good! It has action, spice, heartbreaking back stories and leaves you ready to jump right into the next book to find out what happens.
When she was just a child Cecilia her family had to leave Mexico in order to stay safe but she knew she'd be back one day to run her father's cartel. When years later her family is gone and she knows no one is safe around her she leaves the only two people she found a home with and went ghost, now she's back after years begging for protection but Ronan is not going to make it easy. He puts her through brutal, tortuous test to break her to get the answers he needs but she was trained not to break. Along the way she finds comfort in not only Santos her old friend who can't bare the torment her ex puts her through but in Mateo Kane. One of their closest brothers she works her way into his void of a heart and Ronan just can't take it but all that changes when she's kidnapped and they'd do anything to bring her back.
I love the idea of why choose but really I always fall one more than the others! And in this book it's Mateo Kane! He's dark, he's haunted and mysterious, he wants to love but is too frightened to get close to people. He says he's the worst of them but all you can see is his heart under that hard exterior and that just makes you want to melt! And he plays the piano! I'm so glad I picked this series up.
I loved this Mafia Romance book. It's very different from most of the Mafia books I've read. Cecilia Flores is a bad@s$ FMC. We first meet her as a child. As things move along we get snippets and flashbacks throughout the book from different ages and moments in her life. From a young age she was a bright and smart individual who was determined to take her training very seriously to prove her worth as a female, who'd be taking over her father's position in leading The Cartel. Unfortunately a jealous and power hungry Uncle has ruined that and taken away everything from her. She finally decides to run and hide to protect her boyfriend and best friend from the same fate as her family. Cecilia returns to those same 2 guys many years later needing protection from her Uncle. Cecilia has always held her secrets close to her heart. Ronan, her ex, was destroyed by her leaving all those years ago and makes her sign a POA for his protection since she won't tell him why she ran. He's determined to know her secrets, and his ways of trying to get her to spill are extreme. It's a love/hate romance that is so hot 🔥 🥵. You really have to read this book to get any info on the 2 other men, Santos and Mateo. The anger, sexual tension, and jealousy is thick between these 4. I am super excited for book 2 to release in September🤞. It ends on a cliffhanger and I have to know what happens next ASAP! I'm hoping by the end of this series that Cecilia gets her pound of flesh and revenge for losing everything. Girl better get that 👑 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I can wait to read the rest of the books in the series!! Highly recommend!
âš ï¸ ð™ð™’: violence / mentions of drugs / explicit language / torture (psychological and physical) / Dub-con / rape (not within the harem or the the female maim character) âš ï¸
The MMC? Yup, Alphahole Extraordinaire. **NO SPOILERS**
Wow, this book is easily at the top of its genre.
Cecilia Flores, the oldest child of one of the Mexican Cártel leadership. She’s been groomed for that leadership since she was a young child, to be the Queen of the Cartel. After a huge betrayal her family forced to leave everything behind as their home is burning around them. A new identity and additional training continues until the day her entire life fell apart.
Cecilia has to forge her own path, all of a sudden she has options until she doesn’t. Now there’s only one Flores leading the cartel but it’s not her father who’s running the business. Fast forward to the present day and Cecilia is out of options she needs help and the only person she can ask is her childhood sweetheart, the one man who hates her as much as he loves her.
This book is an exceptional read, I devoured it in less than 24 hours I just didn’t want to put it down. The MMC is a full on jerk but naturally he doesn’t have the same level of information that the reader is privy to. The FMC is stuck between a rock and a hard place. So the levels of stubborn between the two main characters is off the charts. I can highly recommend this book to those who love Dark RH stories. Book 2 here I come.
Before I begin... I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
That being said, I would give this book 3.5 stars. I have rounded it up to 4 stars for the breadth of detail and the quality of the writing.
This is a slow burn multi POV organised crime RH.
The story starts in a firey blaze when Cecilia is just 8 years old. At 15, her life comes undone at the seams in a hail of bullets. And at the tender age of 18 she leaves all that she loves in the world behind in the middle of the night.
The story picks up again some 12 years later when Cecilia finally admits to herself that she's tired of running and without help she too will meet an untimely end. Chin held high (because she's no wilting wallflower) she seeks out the man she once called home to ask for help. Although the sexual chemistry is still scorching hot it isn't enough to thaw his heart into throwing caution to the wind.
With strings attached the next two months unfold slowly as we get to know our FMC, the three men who now 'own' her and the intricacies of the lives of crime they now lead. And let me tell you, this has been done to utter perfection!
Ultimately, this is an intriguing start to a new series. It is action packed, drama filled and laden in darkness.
