Wild Art is an incredibly vivid, colourful and current collection of over 300 extraordinary artworks that are too offbeat, outrageous, kitsch, quirky or funky to 'make it' in the formal art world of galleries and museums.ÌýFrom pimped cars and graffiti to extreme body art, ice sculpture, flash mobs, burlesque acts, portraits made from bottle tops, paintings made by animals, light shows, carnivals and giant artworks that can only truly be appreciated from the air, this book has it all.ÌýThe works featured here are variously moving, funny or shocking, celebrating the beauty and art in anything and everything. Authors David Carrier and Joachim Pissarro have studied alternative and underground art forms and cultures for years and have compiled the ultimate collection of creative works to challenge and engage every reader's perception of what is and isn't art.
An astonishing book about non mainstream art forms.
I was quite fascinated by the body modifications, really interesting if you are not too easily grossed out.
My favorite picture in the book was the hotel room that was full of color on one side and the other side was completely white. The shocking contrast was so strong, it kept me captivated for a long time. Now, when I think of this book, that is the image that instantly pops into my mind.
Interesting art covering a huge spectrum. Personally, I don't think of tattoos and mutilation as art but it's all here if you're interested. Fantastic photographs.
Ok, so I'm not really reading much in this book, but the pictures are amazing! There's a section on body modification that is really fascinating if you don't get grossed out too easily. There's also a chapter called "forbidden art." :) And some of the tiny art: astounding.
