Because she was the one to wake Harry from his long sleep, Edie is able to wish for anything her heart desires and Harry has to grant it! Only her wishes don't always turn out as she plans and Harry can't control all the outcomes. Come along for a rollicking romp and learn that wishes don't always come true, and maybe that's a good thing!

This novella was good and exasperating at the same time...
What I loved: It was FREE!! The HUMOR!! I laughed out loud at times. The characters, especially Harry and Mitch were very likable. The premise, a man (Harry) from the early 20th century is trapped in a bottle while on a treasure hunting archaeological dig in the middle east and is freed in the 21st century by Edie, a woman working in a museum. Part of his curse it to fulfill any wish she desires. Her wishes bring some interesting (and lusty!) consequences. The love scenes weren't too outlandish.
Mitch is Edie's good looking, different-woman-in-my-bed neighbor.
What I didn't particularly like: What others have mentioned, Edie, the main female character. She is alternately whiny and in charge. She is a 30+ (??) year old virgin because who would want someone as ugly as she. She lets her boss walk all over her. But when a naked man shows up in front of her, she's in control. Too, she---unbelievably---believes her father's emotional abuse that she's not attractive. This is a thread revisited---a lot---but is magically (no pun intended) resolved in one chat with her father after having sex (with Harry) for the first time (or first several times).
Like others, I wish there had been more of a resolution to their story here. I downloaded this because it was free. I won't spend money on the follow-ups (so hope to find them free as well), but this story seems to lead to . (Will is Harry's cohort from the archaeological dig and, apparently, also trapped in a bottle somewhere.)
All in all, however, the humor and story outweigh the bad. It's a quick fun read.
This was dreadful. I really don't know what the author was trying to accomplish here because the book was neither fun OR sexy. The heroine had one of my most hated complexes: I'm not beautiful ergo no man will ever want me (and she wasn't really ugly.) Really! There is something called brains and personality that men also like! (Although to be fair, she had neither.) She behaved like a 12 year old with all the stupid wishes - I mean, how long did it take to realize the consequences of the whole wishes thing? - and was constantly going back on forth between throwing herself at the guy and then rejecting him because she thought he didn't want her.
If you got this as a freebie, just delete it from your Kindle. It's not worth the time.
This wasn't awful, however... Edie got on my effing nerves.
Seriously the book was mostly just her going "I'm uuuuuuugly." When she's not.
That got old.
Annnnnd of course she was a virgin. Of course. Because apparently "ugly" women never get to have sex. And amazingly, she's also never masturbated. Which just seemed beyond unrealistic.
The wishes were stupid. Even her accidental wishes felt so forced. I'm sorry, no one talked the way she did. Yeah you can offhandedly say "I wish you wouldn't do that", but they seriously felt all forced and awkward, and wow she was an idiot.
However, I will read the next one because why not..
What I Liked: I absolutely loved the humor in this book. There was a lot of laugh out loud moments that made this book just so much fun! It also made it easier to forgive some things that didn't always work for me that I will get to in a minute.
I also really enjoyed the storytelling along with the fast pace and the strong characters that were fleshed out extremely well. There's a strong possibility I'll read more from this author in the future. I can't remember how I discovered her, but I'm glad I did. Despite the issues I had with this book. Explanation .
What I Disliked: I had some issues with quite a few things. First was a major pet-peeve of mine; unprotected sex. I don't give a shit if he's from the past, he can still get her pregnant and she can still give him HIV. It made Edie irresponsible and stupid and I didn't care for her at all after that (her pity-parties didn't help her case either).
I also didn't care for how she went from insecure fragile little virgin to confident exhibitionist having sex in front of people with no care about who watches and in the case of the library sex, any child that is doing school research. Did I mention how irresponsible and stupid she was?
Another problem I had with Edie was her non-reaction to the . I had several more problems with her, but suffice it to say, she belly-flopped into the TSTL pool. Pretty ironic since she constantly reiterates how smart and independent she is.
Some other issues are the biology lesson the author takes us through during the smexy times. That got really annoying really fast. And there's also the incorrect word usage. Seriously? People still haven't learned spellcheck won't fix a wrong word spelled confetti (correctly~)? And the ending was so bad it almost made me wish I had never read the book. To say it was rushed and incomplete would be an understatement. So disappointing.
Final Analysis: A fun and funny beach read that was enjoyable for the most part. The humor is the life-support for this book though. I wouldn't have liked it without that. Right up until the end I was set to give this book 5 stars as well, but the ending (or lack thereof) means I don't want this to be a keeper to reread, so 3.5 stars it is for the entertainment factor.
Cover: I like the cover. Not only the man with no face, but also the rock on the left that has everything to do with the book. I like the color of the heading.
Characters: I like Harry, the main male character. He was a good hero. I like Mitch the secondary, male character. I dislike the heroine. Eddie was a 30 year virgin, full of confidence problems because of family history that suddenly tries to became a vixen. I didn't buy it. She really irritated me, most of the time. There is also a third male character, that it promise good things for a future book.
Plot: It's an ok plot. The woman works in a museum and brings out a bottle and a rock from the past. Sort of like a "genie in a bottle", but her genie is talk, dark, handsome and naked! lol
Heat: it has lots of good scenes, but the girls first time was really a turn-off IMO.
End: There is no end. Really, it's stops in the middle of a scene. So you need to buy the next book, to know what's going to happen.
Opinion: Some funny moments with a good idea of a plot. Really the heroine and the end dropped my overall rating from "I like" to "It's ok".
I got it as a freebie and even though I was left hanging, I'm not certain I will buy the next book.
This book was OK. The male characters were much more likeable than the female lead. Another one of those "woe is me, men are so scary" virgins that, of course, turns a 180 and decides to overcome what is (presumably) decades of neglect and (verbal/emotional) abuse to become some sex-ay woman.
So Modern! (beat-down) Independent! Woman! Finds a genie in a bottle with unlimited wishes. And she's stupid about the wishes. The genie is some guy from the 20s that got caught in the bottle. Cue old-fashioned chivalric man falling for his Sexy! Modern! Independent! Woman! And the stone giving the power to the bottle wielder is awesome and bad people want it. Cue conflict.
The actual writing? Some of the sex scenes were OK, some were bad, but the language needed work. It was neither awesome nor hilariously bad, though at one point, "she wanted him to mount her, like a male dog humping a bitch." (sexy!)
Meh. It ends on a cliff-hanger, and I don't care enough to read further unless Amazon makes the sequels free, too.
FIrst! In Irag they speak Arabic. In Iran they speak Farci (Farsi), sometimes called Persian. Get your facts straight!
Now about the story. Loved the humor. Loved the fast pace. Loved Harry and Mitch. Hateed her dad. You miss your beautiful wife. Yes we understand. That is NEVER a reason to break your daughter's spirt nor make her feel unloved. Never! Edie had issues becausey of this. Understandable also. No matter how much others tell you, if Daddy doesn't think you are beautiful you won't. Edie did go on and on about this. Then she becomes a temptress in a heartbeat. Made the sex scenes great, but a little fast. Unprotected sex, not good. Who knows what he brought with him from the 1900's. Edie did not even stop to think about it. She also did not seem upset by almost being gang raped. She should have had some emotiobal reaction to that event.
I did like the story line. Harry is a great Genie. Will Mitch be a Genie now? What about Will? Wanted to know more. Wanted to read on. A fun read that could be reworked into a longer more in depth book that I would want to read.
Hmmmmm.... This one leaves me right in the middle a bit of good, and a bit of bad. The story is that while excavating a mummy Harry gets sucked out of 1920's Iraq and into a bottle for 80-years to be unleashed by Edie. Edie is shy and reserved 30 year old virgin with an verbaly abusive father. She now has the power to make wishes through Harry. That part of the plot was good. But then the wishes Edie starts to make just make her seem like a twit not a woman with a PHD. When she does accidentaly wish to get the info she needs she doesn't do any thing with it. The story evolves into porn star mode, swashbuckling pirate mode, and streaking through the library mode. After lots of gratuitus sex scenes it does come back to plot. But then the author does the unthinkable $%#@ing cliffhanger, for no good reason. Not even a HFN ending a hi were in the middle of Iraq with out a clue held at gun point ending. My normal response is that clifhangers automatically take out a star. I would have given this 3.5 stars and 2 seems just a bit low, so over all it gets 3 stars.
I really liked this book. The writing was fun, the situations that Edie kept getting herself into with her wishes were ridiculous and sexy, and I was rooting for Harry from the beginning. However, I do kinda, sorta wish that we could have been given a little more closure on Edie and Harry's relationship before the rather abrupt ending to this book. While I expect that we'll learn more in books 2 & 3, I wanted it now. I'm stomping my mental foot, if you can't tell.
Still, I enjoyed the book overall. I just wanted a more concrete ending for our couple.
This book was a free Kindle download I picked up 06/19/12 for the Why Buy the Cow? reading challenge.
While a fun read, some of the changes in characters were too unrealistic to suspend my disbelief. If I'm working to believe that a man can be sucked into a magic bottle for over 80 years, then I need the details and characterization around that to be realistic enough so that's the only thing I have to hand-wave.
I enjoyed this first book but was a little surprised that it ended in a little bit of a cliff hanger. It felt more like an HFN not an HEA. I have already started the next book Trouble With Will. Hoping to see Harry and Edie again.
This is an interesting take on the genie in a bottle theme. I really liked Harry and Mitch, edie annoyed me sometimes with her constant "i'm not beautiful" phrase. Overall really liked it and now i have to get the next one:)
Meh. Heroine's insecurity, although realistic, was too annoying. Though she does find her backbone by mid-story. There is a cliffhanger ending, but story took too long to get moving, and I wasn't invested at all in what happens next.
Another new author for me. This book was just what I needed, full of laughs and Hotness. I thought it very well written, the story just flowed and I fell right in. Haven't been able to put it down. Will definitely read more from this author
