The best-written poems of the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam, as selected by the audiences during the festival. Contains poems from preliminary rounds, the Lit Slam, and Finals Stage.
This book was read for the #readwomen month. Three of my favourite slam poets are featured here: Dominique Christina Ashaheed, Sierra DeMulder, and Denice Frohman. it would have been ridiculous of me to miss it. However, I had already listened to the poems here after I listened to it on Button Poetry. () For blood-curling slam poems, check these three ladies out above the others, because they are certainly the ones that stand out the most.
There are some really lovely poems in this collection. It's a quick read, totally worth your time. Stargazer by Dominique Christina Asaheed, Hey Mister by Sasha Banks, Laura Lamb Brown-Lavoie's poem about the Titanic, and the piece by Amy David were standouts for me.
I got the book from the button poetry website but they had the 2014 lit slam not the 2013 so I'm confused as to what the edition here is exactly. It was a great read though, not I want to seek out the videos of those poems being narrated if they exist and watch them for the full effect.
no, really. I couldn't put it down. I found it because I searched "sarah kay" in the book store, hoping to find her newest collection. I did not find it. I found this. This was wonderful, I'll read it until I've memorized every pixel.
