Karin continues to come to terms with her feelings for Kenta, but her flirting will have to be put on hold for now. Karin's grandmother is in town, and that's enough to put her entire family into a panic. Elda Marker is no silver-haired, cookie-baking matriarch. She's a hot and heavy vampire vixen with a taste for blood, but a distaste for everything else having to do with the human race. So how can Karin possibly tell her about her new human almost-sorta-not-quite-boyfriend? It's going to be one freaky family reunion that you're not going to want to miss! Also in this volume, get a glimpse into the Maaka/Marker family past in a side story that focuses on grandma and grandpa!
Yuna Kagesaki (Ó°Æé ÓÉÄÇ Kagesaki Yuna ) is a manga artist, born on March 3, 1973 , best known for being the author of the manga Chibi Vampire. Her work has been published under four different names: Yuna Kagesaki (Ó°Æé ÓÉÄÇ Kagesaki Yuna) (professionally published non-pornographic comics, except for Sakura no Ichiban), Yuna Kagezaki (Ó°Æé ÓÉÄÇ Kagezaki Yuna?) (same characters but different readings; only in Taish¨ Komachi Jikench¨ Sakura no Ichiban!) Y¨±na Kagesaki (Ó°Æé ϦÄÇ Kagesaki Y¨±na) (spelled with different kanji) when drawing CG's for PC games, and Yuta Kageyama (Ӱɽ Óɶà Kageyama Yuta) when drawing hentai manga or HCG's for PC games. Her real name is presumedly Keya, as she calls herself in the bonus comic strips at the end of volume 3 of her work Hekikai no AiON. In middle school she was a member of the brass band.
In this volume we meet an old member of the family.
If you look at the cover you'll probably think the exact same thing as me. That that is either Karin's cousin or maybe a besty or something. They look very similar.
But nopes... while its not a besty it IS a member of the family.... HOLY SNIKEYS!! that's her grandma!!
Grandma has been asleep for a long long time and well, Karin's mom put big boulders ontop of G-ma's coffin but that all changed when they had an earthquake and she was able to get out.
G-ma is really into REN which was kinda creepy because they look the same age and ahhh... she actually groped Karin's boobs and told her they were like big cantaloupe's bulging our of her collar. So, we are then led to believe that Karin got her boobles from her Mom (because G-ma is Henry's Dad)
An even weirder note is at the very back of the book it actually tells G-ma's and Karin's bra CUP size. I mean... why is that necessary? I figure someone has noticed this and bugged the artist about it so she must enjoy making fun of the fact that Karin's boobs are freaking HUGE!
Besides playing "Where did those boobs come from" we continue on with Kenta and Karin's "I really don't Love you" storyline when you know they do. They have a cultural festival at school. Henry and Calera's (Karin's mom and Dad) story of how they met is told and Henry and Calera go to a vampire convention
It wasn't the best story line but I said that 2 books ago so that must mean the next one will be better. I'm really happy I checked a bunch of them out from the library. They're a fun easy read and I just LOVE LOVE LOVE looking at the pictures :)
Karin is a vampire - she just isn¡¯t like her other vampire family members. Whereas they drink the blood of humans for nourishment like traditional vampires, Karin has a problem with having too much blood in her body. Her blood constantly increases. It builds up faster the closer she is to a human with the type of blood she is attracted to. If it builds up too much, it gushes out in the form of a horrible nose bleed. Sometimes if someone is around her and the time is right she can bite someone and inject the blood into them. Her problem is, she can¡¯t erase the memories of the people she bites. She must rely on her siblings for help.
Karin¡¯s life becomes even more difficult when a transfer student arrives at her school. Kenta Usui causes Karin¡¯s blood to increase everytime she is around him. She has trouble just looking at him. What is even worse is the fact that Kenta witnesses Karin biting someone, becomes suspicious of her, and is determined to find out what she is doing.
Karin must attempt to control her problem and figure out how to handle her relationship with Kenta. This is an interesting concept for a story and turned out to be pretty cute and I¡¯m glad I gave them a chance (even though I bought the first one because the main character¡¯s name, Karin, is spelled like my first name). I¡¯ve read 5 volumes so far and plan to read the others soon. There are novelizations and an animation series available as well.
The addition of Karin's granmother makes this one of the best of the series so far. It was funny and even a little sad. The bonus story was great too and I hope we learn more of James in future volumes.
As we continue this series, our main girl Karin continues to come to terms with her feelings for Kenta, but their flirting will have to be put on hold for now. Karin's grandmother awakens from her slumber in the family basement which puts her entire family into a panic mode!
Elda Marker is no silver-haired, cookie-baking matriarch. She's a hot and heavy vampire vixen with a taste for blood, but a distaste for everything else having to do with the human race. Also, she looks exactly like Karin! So how can Karin possibly tell her about her new human almost-sorta-not-quite-boyfriend? And as her school hosts a haunted house for the cultural festival, Elsa causes all sorts if mischief as she wants to get a taste of young blood from Karin¡¯s classmates.
I LOVED this part of the series because Elda was such a chaotic character but despite the facade, she was a very loving grandmother to Karin. I also enjoyed learning more about the Makka family history.
Great illustrations and an interesting take on the whole vampire legend. I dont get why there is always has to be a love story hamfisted into anime tho. Premise is kinda wacky. Um vampire family has an unexpected visit from an older relative. The older relative wrecks their sense of normal but no one complains out of respect. I started with this volume so I'm pretty sure I missed a couple things. Maybe starting at the beginning would give more perspective to the characters and their motivations but I think any anime worth its pages should be able to drawn one in(puns) at any point. This story doesnt really do that.
Grandma Elda comes out for a few chapters to wreak absolute havoc on poor Karin and then leaves, and I could have an entire series about Elda Marker just messing things up because she's chaotic neutral.
The vampire lore is finally coming in to play because the other regions have been introduced and they're going to start getting into their business, which means that Karin is going to be in real trouble soon.
Anju is still a baby, but I think volume six is when she starts to phase into adulthood herself. There's a lot that happens all at once, but this is a short series so it does need to be wrapped up quickly.
I noticed a couple of interesting features of this manga series. The first is that this manga includes a vampire family (mom, dad, 3 kids and even grandma). I didn't even know there could be vampire families!
Also, in most manga about school-age kids, the parents are off somewhere else, practically invisible. In this manga they have an important role, not just Karen's family but Kenta Usui's mom as well.
This volume was hilarious and you got to learn more about the background of the parents of the main leading lady. I like how it's so easy to read and it's so simple yet fun. There are unfortunate aspects in the sense that there were some crude moments that I was not a fan of. Because of these points I have to give this volume a 4 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed it.
The grandmother showing up is a nice, refreshing change of pace. Also the chapter about the past of Karin's parents is interesting. I guess like my favourite chapters are always the ones that don't involve Karin that much?? What does that say about why I like the series?
I like reading this series just because it's something different. It's light and humorous and gives me a good laugh here and there. To me the whole series so far has been great. While at first I was a little skeptical about the whole manga thing I found it's actually quite a pleasant read. When looking at it as a whole I found this novel to be great. It was full of humorous bits and pieces that had me laughing out loud. The serious parts were really good as well. I love the character of Karin, she's funny and I love that she is 'different'. I just find characters that are different to be so refreshing and interesting. While she does tend to cry a lot I find her a very lovable character. I also must give a special mention to Karin's grandmother, Elda Marker, she is definitely a cool grandmother. I found her character to be a great one because she was the complete opposite of Karin and she was just so young it was fantastic. I especially loved how there was an explanation as to why her grandmother was so young looking compared to Karin's parents. As far as the vampire genre goes, I adore the way in which Karin is presented. She is a very different vampire who gives people blood when she bites them instead of drinking their blood. This is a very unique and interesting take on the whole vampire genre. So my overall thoughts on this novel, I loved it. It's a great, short read. I recommend it to anyone who loves vampires and manga and anyone else who feels like they would love this series and this book.
In Volume 5, the Marker family has a surprise visitor... Henry's mother, Elda, who's been sleeping in the basement for quite some time. Calera, Karin, Ren, and especially Anju are less than thrilled about this new arrival. Elda is old and ruthless and - the family fears - may not be understanding of Karin's "reverse" vampirism or her dependence on Usui Kenta for protection.
At the book's close, Henry and Calera attend a vampire convention in northern Japan, where we learn they are the only vampire couple in Japan to have successfully had multiple children. We also learn that Henry and Calera's marriage was arranged.
haha, i love karin's grandmother she's so adorable, but its so sad how her hubby dried up in the coffin T____T karin is SOOOOO adorable *HUUUUG!!!* she loooooves kenta like crazy, and they look so adorable together, the only difference is that she's a vampire and he's a human luckily he accepts her difference and actually befriends her, one of the few occurances in the vampire world haha :3 kentaxkarin forever :3
Blech. I picked this up b/c the kids recommended it for the library but no way! It became a world of "No!" when grandma vampire felt up Karin/teen vampire and the parents have to tell her not to sexually harass the grandchildren... And then it further devolved into name-calling and emotionally and physically abusive relationship drama. I guess it's all meant to be slap-sticky funny but it's just obnoxious and icky. :P
Karin's grandmother is awake and wants fresh young blood. The problem with that is... karin and her grandma are like twins. Except for the development of womanhood from Karin. Seems like everyone wants a piece of that. Grandma does find out about Karins love for a human. Karin is the cutest misfit vampire and extremely loveable. <3
Ugh what's with everyone groping Karin's boobs? This time it's her grandma who looks exactly like her. I forgot to review when I finished reading this so I don't remember much else. We do get more of a glimpse into vampire society which was neat. And I do like Karin and Kenta's blossoming love
With each book we're getting a bit more info on the family history. We met Karin's grandmother on her father's side and learned how her parents met. I would like a little more about Kenta's backstory. Hopefully that will come soon!
Absolutely loved the bonus story about Karin's parents Henry and Calera. Was so interesting to see back into their past and also see Karin's Grandfather James alive and interacting with Elda. 5 stars!
