Jason Aaron

His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.
Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.
In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.
Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.
In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.
In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.
After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

গ্রাফি� নভেলের ধারণাট� আমাদের বাংলাদেশীদে� জন্য খু� পুরন� কিছু নয়। এখনও স্রে� সাদা কাগজের বুকে কালো হরফে ছাপানো চিরাচরিত গল্পের প্রতিই আমাদের ঝোঁকটা বেশী, গ্রাফিকস বা ঝা� চকচক� ছবির মাধ্যমেও যে গল্প বল� যায় সেটি আমাদের অনেকের কাছে� একেবারেই নতুন এমনকী অজান� একটি ধারণাও বটে। পাশ্চাত্� বিশ্বে গ্রাফি� নভেলের এত ছড়াছড়ি থাকা স্বত্তেও বাংলাদেশ � ক্ষেত্রে অনেকটা� পিছিয়� থাকবার অন্যতম একটি কারণ বাংলাদেশের আর্থ-সামাজি� কাঠামো� গ্রাফি� নভেলের কা� বে� ব্যয়বহুল। প্রচুর মানুষে� শ্রম� একটি গ্রাফি� নভেল তৈরী হয়। যিনি গল্প লেখে�, বেশীরভাগ ক্ষেত্রে� তিনি আঁকিয়� হননা, আবার পেন্সিলে আঁকা সাদা-কালো ছবিগুল� রং করেন আরেক জন� সব মিলিয়� � এক দক্ষযজ্ঞ বল� চলে। একজন বাংলাদেশী ৩০�-৫০� টাকা হল� যেখানে বিশ্বে� বড� বড� লেখকদে� কাজে� দু চারট� নমুন� বগলদাব� করতে পারে�, এমনক� সমগ্� পর্যন্� কিনে নিতে পারে�, উন্ন� মানে� একটি গ্রাফি� নভেলের খা� কত� পৃষ্ঠা কেনারও চিন্তা করতে পারেনন� তিনি � এক� দামে� মার্কি� অর্থমানে যে মূল্� লেখা রয়েছে এই বইটি� পেছন�, ঢাকা� কর্মজীবী শ্রেণী� বহ� মানুষে� এক মাসে� বেতন� হয� তাতে� নিঃসন্দেহে আমাদের জন্য ওট� স্রে� বড়োলোকোমি� তব� তা� বল� এই জনরাটিকে আমরা একেবার� ফ্যালনাও যে� না ভাবি� মানুষে� কল্পনাশক্তির � সৃজনশীলতার স্বাক্ষর গ্রাফি� নভেলগুলো� বহ� করে। সুদি� একদি� আমাদের� আসবে, আমরা কে� চো� রাখবোন�?

গ্রাফি� নভেলের ধারণাট� আমাদের বাংলাদেশীদে� জন্য খু� পুরন� কিছু নয়। এখনও স্রে� সাদা কাগজের বুকে কালো হরফে ছাপানো চিরাচরিত গল্পের প্রতিই আমাদের ঝোঁকটা বেশী, গ্রাফিকস বা ঝা� চকচক� ছবির মাধ্যমেও যে গল্প বল� যায় সেটি আমাদের অনেকের কাছে� একেবারেই নতুন এমনকী অজান� একটি ধারণাও বটে। পাশ্চাত্� বিশ্বে গ্রাফি� নভেলের এত ছড়াছড়ি থাকা স্বত্তেও বাংলাদেশ � ক্ষেত্রে অনেকটা� পিছিয়� থাকবার অন্যতম একটি কারণ বাংলাদেশের আর্থ-সামাজি� কাঠামো� গ্রাফি� নভেলের কা� বে� ব্যয়বহুল। প্রচুর মানুষে� শ্রম� একটি গ্রাফি� নভেল তৈরী হয়। যিনি গল্প লেখে�, বেশীরভাগ ক্ষেত্রে� তিনি আঁকিয়� হননা, আবার পেন্সিলে আঁকা সাদা-কালো ছবিগুল� রং করেন আরেক জন� সব মিলিয়� � এক দক্ষযজ্ঞ বল� চলে। একজন বাংলাদেশী ৩০�-৫০� টাকা হল� যেখানে বিশ্বে� বড� বড� লেখকদে� কাজে� দু চারট� নমুন� বগলদাব� করতে পারে�, এমনক� সমগ্� পর্যন্� কিনে নিতে পারে�, উন্ন� মানে� একটি গ্রাফি� নভেলের খা� কত� পৃষ্ঠা কেনারও চিন্তা করতে পারেনন� তিনি � এক� দামে� মার্কি� অর্থমানে যে মূল্� লেখা রয়েছে এই বইটি� পেছন�, ঢাকা� কর্মজীবী শ্রেণী� বহ� মানুষে� এক মাসে� বেতন� হয� তাতে� নিঃসন্দেহে আমাদের জন্য ওট� স্রে� বড়োলোকোমি� তব� তা� বল� এই জনরাটিকে আমরা একেবার� ফ্যালনাও যে� না ভাবি� মানুষে� কল্পনাশক্তির � সৃজনশীলতার স্বাক্ষর গ্রাফি� নভেলগুলো� বহ� করে। সুদি� একদি� আমাদের� আসবে, আমরা কে� চো� রাখবোন�?

I did not care for the Doctor Rot story. Bit too dark and gruesome for me as well as predictable. The Deathlok is the main attraction here, as smartly featured on the cover - the other stories are much lesser and forgettable. Initially I was a bit taken aback by the number of the Deathlok clones and their evil nature. I'm an old Deathlok fan. I loved his original run in the 1970's. I even own a Deathlok statue! So, I was disheartened to see my hero turned evil without explanation.
We later get the reveal and the story ended to my satisfaction. In fact, it is a pretty great Deathlok story and a very different one than what we've had in the past. The art's great. One of the Kubert boys if I recall correctly.
So, while I can't recommend the whole book - it is worth reading for the terrific Deathlok tale.

Хм, для мене це і ніби щось хороше, а ніби не зовсім. Після того, як моя увага перемикається поволі на манґи, котрі викликають у мене справді різноманітні емоції, та де екшн сцени розбудовані набагато краще - здається що от з Росомахою можна було експерементувати більше, але знову ж таки...комікс це одне, а манґа інше.
Цей том легше читалось, тут нема якогось арки, через яку пропадає настрій читати, через котру все псується. Тут радше все на рівні котрий тягнеться до непоганого бойовичка із елементами жорстокості. Люблю Росомаху, але це не ті історії, які б мені хотілось мати на полиці, щоб до них повернутись.
До величезного плюсу варто віднести те, що як в першому так і в другому томах ми бачимо певне поєднання історій, котре плавно доповнюється ваншотами чи лімітками і утворюється цілісний сюжетик. Не треба бігати шукати якийсь окремий випуск, щоб дізнатись що, де і коли. А, ну і звісно короткий зміст подій перед певними арками.
Тому, це хороший середнячок)

This is the second volume collecting Jason Aaron's Wolverine material (it is not an entirely consecutive run, but the volumes nevertheless make sense as editions) and, with some initial digressions, picks up during his Wolverine: Weapon X run (the first issues of which closed the first volume, which I enjoyed, overall). This volume is a slightly more mixed bag, however.
The volume opens with a 12-page story from Dark X-Men: The Beginning #3, and it features Mystique (rather than Wolverine). The story is all right, but I do not at all care for Jock's art here (I really enjoy some of his work on other titles, but here it just does not gel for me), nor do I care for the highly over-amplified Mystique (whether this is Aaron's fault or just something he has inherited I do not know). Two stars.
Second story out is "All We Want Is the World and Everything in It" (from Dark Reign: The List � Wolverine) and is drawn by Esad Ribic, whose work helps my enjoyment of this somewhat crazy tale featuring Wolverine alongside Marvel Boy and Fantomex. Three solid stars.
The first longer arc, Insane in the Brain (from Wolverine: Weapon X #6�9), features Yanick Paquette on art duty. Sadly there are many aspects of this story that I am not fond of, and Paquette's work does not really help my appreciation. Dr Rot is a gruesome villain, to be sure, but � for me � he is gruesome in all the wrong ways. The story just does not take off for me and is held down by its splatter elements (which get in the way of the story � and I say this as someone who enjoys quite a few splattery things in various media). Two stars really.
"Love and the Wolverine" (from Wolverine: Weapon X #10) is a welcome single-issue piece, which investigates Logan's relationship with Melita (as well as his history with women). The art by C. P. Smith is quite stylised, but works very well for the story told. Three very strong stars.
The next arc, Tomorrow Dies Today (from Wolverine: Weapon X #11�15), is the longest one in the volume, and it sees the return of Ron Garney on art (his contributions to the first volume were some of my favourites there). The story involves both Steve Rogers and the Bucky Barnes Captain America, and Deathloks sent from the future to eliminate certain powered individuals. All in all, it is a good time travel tale with a few twists for good measure. Four stars.
The volume closes with "The End of the Beginning" (from Wolverine: Weapon X #16), and I will say up front that I really do not like Davide Gianfelice's art here (generally, art not to my liking seems to be the recurrent flaw in this volume). Furthermore, I am not convinced by the story itself, which is set up to deal with Logan's handling the death of Kurt Wagner, a.k.a. Nightcrawler. There are some nifty plot moves in the narrative, but on the whole, it just does not do it for me. Two stars.
Overall, this volume earns a rather flat three-star grading from me. As mentioned, where it fails is mostly in the art department, but it also seems as if Aaron generally work better with good artists. Maybe that is all just happenstance, but the coincidence (if that is what it is) is hard to shake off.

The first is a Grand Guignol version of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, with Logan trapped in an insane asylum run by a sadistic doctor. It’s genuinely disturbing and Yanick Paquette goes all out drawing the gory craziness. The second major arc has Cable-like killers from the future eliminating targets for reasons tied to Roxxon. Logan, Captain America (Bucky and Steve, back from the dead), and others try to take these guys down. This story goes on too long and it’s not really a Wolverine story. I like the first issue with Logan taking Cap on an international bar crawl, and there are some funny scenes with Spider-Man. But it’s overblown and not that compelling in the long run. One thing I’ll say is that I like how each of the three Wolverine: Weapon X arcs are very different tonally. Shows what you can do with the character.
As with the first collection, the best parts here are the standalone issues. The one about Logan and Melita is funny, heartwarming, and sad all at once. And the Nightcrawler tribute is very touching.

Drugi tom, który wydaje się jeszcze lepszy niż część pierwsza. Mamy tu dwie dłuższe opowieści. Pierwszą bardzo dobrą, mającą miejsce w niby psychiatryku i drugą całkiem fajną, będącą hołdem dla serii Terminator, gdzie Deathlok odgrywa znaczącą rolę. Dodatkowo mamy bodajże cztery pojedyncze historie, które już pozostawiają więcej do życzenia.
Ta z Mistique jest niezła, z Dark Reign taka sobie. Nowa dziewczyna Wolverine'a jest poprawna, zaś końcówka wali sentymentem, ale nie na tyle mocno, aby się tym brzydzić. Całość jest sprawnie napisana i nie można Aaronowi odmówić kunsztu pracy. Fajny zbiór, jaki został wydany przez Egmont jakiś czas temu, a który odkopałem przy okazji przeprowadzki. 3.5/5

This is an alright collection of stories. Aaron writes Logan in his own versions of "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" meets saw, uses Deathloks in the place of a group of Terminators in a bit time loop, and Logan drinks beer with Cap, and gets a girlfriend. Nothing is truely stellar here but it's also not bad.

This collection of Wolverine adventures by Jason Aaron was okay but a little weak. I really enjoyed the first volume a little bit more. I only really enjoyed the Dr. Rotwell story the most. For those comic readers looking for a dark story with a little edge you may love this book. My biggest gripe with the book is the every changing artwork. I just didn't like some the art. I still think Jason Aaron is good with the character of Wolverine. I really hate what Marvel is currently doing with the character but this collection is still better than what's on the stands now.

A very solid volume of stories, though the second half of the book focuses more on Deathlok than Wolverine. The first story set in an insane asylum is quite intense and much like a horror film, and Deatlok bit is a fun variation on the Terminator. Aaron keeps things moving briskly and adds some good dark humor throughout. The art varies in style, but always seems appropriate for each story. One of the better Wolverine collections.

Fun and engaging, good stories are well supported by good art in a volume that was a pleasure to read. I appreciated that while knowledge of the (then) state of the Marvel universe would enhance enjoyment, it is by no means necessary as the stories can be understood and appreciated as is. Particular mention goes to the Deathlok storyline, which successfully handled the always tricky issue of .

Good art. Good Stories. This Book covers Wolverine : Weapon X # 6-15 (the end of the series). It also has 2 issues from the Dark Reign event. Self contained enough to be enjoyable without having to know the 40 years of Wolverine.
