When Jade is given a scholarship to an elite private college in Connecticut, she sees it as a chance to finally escape her painful past and get a fresh start. I really, really like Jade and Garret! To be honest, there are several grammatical errors but nothing that I thought took away from the story. This story does indeed end with a cliffhanger. The next book is scheduled to be released on November 2. I for one will have my one-click finger ready.
Jade Taylor is the Kensington Scholarship winner. She sets off to Moorhust College to begin her freshman year. She struggles with trust and friendships. She is against parties and drinking due to her mother’s death. Jade is definitely sarcastic. I liked her and I really enjoyed her banter with Garret.
Garret is the “pretty boy� she meets on moving in day. He is taken by her, he sees through her tough exterior and just wants to spend time with her.
”I can’t believe I’m telling you this, but � I’ve never had a real friend.�
Jade is haunted and taunted by the negative words of her deceased mother. She is determined to move forward and have a life.
”I hate her. I hate her so much. But I can’t let her words keep controlling me like this. She’s taken too much from me already. She can’t take the rest of my life away.�
Jade and Garret's relationship sways from friends to more. UGH Garret was completely SWOON WORTHY! I just loved the practice hugging, pancakes, runs, swimming, movies, twinkling lights and that concession stand.
”I’m not much of a hugger.�
“Well, you need one, so don’t just stand there. Put your damn arms around me.�

Sadly, Garret’s family has a lot of say on who he is allowed to associates with. So readers be warned, things aren't easy for our couple.
The angst level for these two was really high. Although their relationship stayed PG, I sure had butterflies!
”I like that I have no idea what you’re gonna do after I do this.�
Jade tries to keep their relationship in the friend zone but her attraction and feelings for Garret are just too strong.
”Jade, aside from you, everyone on the planet can see that I’m completely crazy about this girl from Iowa who runs constantly and is addicted to potato chips.�
A mystery unfolds by the end of the story. I have a million different scenarios running through my head on what it all means.
Overall, I truly enjoy this read and thought that Allie Everhart did a fine job with her debut novel!

This was an okay story, but I have to say that the main character irritated me a bit.
Jade was a girl who wasn’t afraid to speak up about her opinions, and boy did she come across as rude at times! Just because someone’s toddler is having a tantrum in a diner, it doesn’t give you the right to shout and be rude to them about it! I mean really?! And ‘Jasmine� is a bad name because it’s the name of a cartoon princess? What a bitch!
The storyline in this was about Jade starting college, and meeting a boy called Garrett, who was considerably richer than her. She was generally pretty rude, wasn’t particularly nice to him, and didn’t seem to want to make friends. She was even rude about swimmers � because swimming isn’t as difficult as running because you don’t have to support your own body weight � can you see why this girl annoyed me yet?
There was romance in this, but why Garrett liked Jade and wanted to be with her I don’t know, she wasn’t any nicer to him than she was to anybody else!
The ending to this was a cliff-hanger. We got a storyline very close to the end concerning Jade’s dead mother, and someone who possibly wants to keep certain information hidden, and is prepared to kill to do it. This came very late in the book though, and left us with a cliff-hanger. Hmm.

The heroine was extremely unlikeable. She was a bitch AND a mean girl...made fun of OW because her name was Jasmine (said she had to be a drama queen and a rich preppy girl because her name was Jasmine...she had one conversation with the girl and based everything off of it) AND while at a restaurant told parents of a child that was crying to shut "it" up.

(no big story summary here, just my impression)
This is one of the very few books in the NA genre section that deserves credit for:
- an original story line (NO instant fake chemistry where heroine and hero want to undress themselves right on the spot)
- characters that are truly compatible and likable (no bitchy heroine and empty headed immature college guys who loves to indulge in every imaginable shit but will suddenly change just for the sake of the bitchy heroine)
the story line develops gradually, in a pace that is realistic and not boring. the main characters meet and are attracted to each other but their interest in each other is genuine and not entirely motivated by hormones as in the other prototypical NA books.
dialogues are realistic and you can actually for a change expect the female protagonist to admit that the guy is "hot" and still expect her to say "NO" and the greatest thing is - the guy will for a change listen to "NO" in this book. even greater is that the protagonist is strong and I always felt like she said no or yes in the right places, never let herself push too much or crawl and remain locked in her dorm-room feeling sorry for herself.
the added plus is the suspense aspect because obviously the book contains some mystery as well involving the protagonists family history. this will clearly be resolved in the next book and i'm really looking forward to it :)
The only thing i really hated though was the cover. I really don't like it and almost refused to read the story just because it left the wrong impression with me.

This was cute and a bit different because of the political mystery aspect. Jade has had a loveless life. Raised by her alcoholic/drug addict mom who constantly berated her. She never knew motherly love. After her mother died at 15 she was raised by neighbor and friend Frank, and his son Ryan. She gets a scholarship to college. Her first day she meets Garret.
Garret is the son of a wealthy man. He's very sweet and has taken a liking to Jade. She's not used to having friends or someone wanting to care for her. Her mom has left some very deep emotional scars so opening up, being affectionate and trusting is not east for her. Garret and Jade spend a lot of time together as "friends". But it's very clear their affections go deeper than friends.
On Jades 19th birthday she learns a huge secret from a letter her mother left her. Things are more complicated than young Jade realizes. Until she gets a very threatening phone call...
Garett's dad is not only wealthy, he's into politics. At least his pocket book is. His dad is against Garret and Jade and is not allowing them to be friends. But they have other ideas and don't want to let Garret's dad dictate their life. But his dad is very adamant...
I can see where the story is headed and what the secret most likely is, but I still like Jade and Garett and the flirty friendship they've developed. He's done such a good job of being slow and tender to a girl that's always been on the receiving end of harshness. The traditions they've established are sweet and perfect.
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next with Jade and Garett and also the outcome of Jades family secret.

История проста. Опять колледж, любовь, дружба. История не плоха, но для меня сюжет был нууу очень скучным - бедная девочка - сирота едет в колледж. Девочка груба, раздражительна, недружелюбна, быстра на осуждения. По приезду в колледж сразу же знакомится с парнем - богатым, красивым, популярным, который не смотря на безразличие и грубость стелиться ковриком перед грубиянкой. Ему видите ли нравится, что она такая необычная, простая, что ее не интересует слава и деньги. Вообще, между ними завязывается дружба-отношения. Вообще, они ругаются, мирятся, МНОГО-МНОГО разговаривают. Почти 70% книги это их разговоры. Мило, просто... но вот скучно. В книги почти ничего не происходит.
Главная героиня меня жутко раздражала, этакий умирающий лебедь, бедный, несчастный. Несмотря на бедность, дама работать не бежит, а ноет, считает копеечки которые ей дарят друзья... I'm really confused by all the negative reviews I read about this novel, and I'm really glad that I ignored them. The most noted flaw was in the heroine, Jade. Almost every negative review said she was a bitch and I really don't see it. Did she have bitchy moments? Sure. Does her horrible childhood make these moments excusable? Of course not. But I really don't see how anyone can flat out think she's a "bitch", especially when we're in her head and she's just as confused about her behavior as everyone else is. Honestly though it makes a lot of sense to me. When you are so used to being left alone, you learn to be the one to push people away first so it doesn't hurt as much (even if you really still want to be with them). Yes, Jade was seemingly all over the place with her feelings but I really believe it was just a fear of abandonment and she pushed Garret away because that's the only way she could believe in his feelings. And not because she was playing games but because subconsciously that's the only way she can understand it.
There are quite a number of NA/YA novels where the heroine comes from a troubled background and more often than not she's timid and sad and truly believes that she's to blame. I thought it was rather refreshing to read about a heroine who is angry at her situation and has no problem saying "This sucks. This is not my fault and it's not fair." And despite this she doesn't feel sorry for herself. She recognizes that outside forces are at play but she is also adamant to take control and forge her own way in life. Granted being that angry all the time isn't any healthier than being sad, but honestly I haven't read too many novels that touch on the anger like this novel did. And just like a heroine would need to work through her sadness to find happiness, I believe Jade can work through her anger to find happiness. I'm really glad the author wasn't afraid to make a heroine like Jade. Also I find it funny that Jade's behavior has her labeled "bitch" when in plenty of other novels the hero has been much much worse but because (as females) we can see ourselves having feelings for him we come to understand it or overlook it. It just doesn't make much sense to me. But personally I liked Jade. I'm really looking forward to how her character is developed.

Everyone was complaining about the bitchy h, but I ignored it thinking how bad could it be. She’s worse! One of the worse h EVER!
- MCs had zero chemistry. She’s attracted to him, because he’s super hot, but I don’t even know wtf she looks like, because the author never mentions it. She’s just a rude fucking bitch to him and every single person in this book.
Some of her charming moments were�
1. Screams at a toddler and her parents when she’s at a diner, because the child was being loud. I mean who does that?
““What the hell? Can’t you make that thing be quiet? I mean, seriously? Are you not hearing this?”�.
2. She’s judgmental. Says she won’t be friends with a girl because she thinks her name -Jasmine- is silly.
(A convo between her almost brother, and her when they arrive at her new school)
““Jasmine seems cool, right?�
“I don’t know her well enough to say. But from her name alone, she doesn’t seem that cool. She’s named after a cartoon princess. That speaks volumes about her personality.�
“What did I say about judging people?�
“I’m just saying that I doubt we’ll be friends. I don’t get along with people like her. I doubt I’ll get along with anyone here which is fine with me.�
3. Oh she’s rude and insulting to everyone. She’s the mean girl but with no friends.
4 slut shames pretty normal college girls, but she thinks one girl is nice because she’s not wearing make up lol.
5. Goes to a college party and then insults the H and his friends, and says she’s leaving because people are drinking alcohol.😂. Omg this girl is so self absorbed.
6. Looks down on everyone at the party for drinking. And then, makes the H stop drinking, because she threatened to leave.
7. She can’t accept kindness. She’s has to act like a fucking annoying feminist, has to pay for everything, etc.

Actual rating - 2.5
I didn't get on with the main character at all. She was rude.
I felt bored for most of this unfortunately. Not much was happening and none of the characters were likable enough to save it.
When the story did get a little bit more interesting, it ended! Really annoying.

Maybe it's just me...
Lately I find myself at an impassive with most of the NA genre. I feel like I nitpick at everything in a book... or it could really just be the books.
I couldn't bring myself to like this book when the heroine is the most annoying thing in the world of characters. I was having whiplash throughout the ENTIRE book. I'm not even being over-dramatic.
Here's an example:
“Maybe she doesn't want to get to know you.�
As in referring to herself in the third person. I mean this was like literally 5 seconds before letting him basically read a love letter she just wrote him.
“What the hell does he want?�
This is her exact thought after pining over him for like a week. Oh and they keep on going these were just a few.
The tantrums:
Jade acts like a 4-year-old who doesn't get her way. Its just over the top ridiculous that she wants to impose her non drinking rule on Garret because of some so called bad childhood experiences. Her whole attitude is just stupid and annoying as heck.
She's judgmental and a complete and utter witch. I don't understand how in the world could Garret just stand there and actually have the guts to like her. Dude, are you on crack?
Oh and the schizophrenic tendencies:
This was actually a conversation they had:
“My mom.� I say it louder. “I was talking to my mom.�
There’s awkward silence. I shouldn’t have told him.
“Didn’t your mom die?� he asks cautiously.
“Yes, but sometimes I still hear her.�
“You mean like in your head,� he confirms.
“Yes. It started after she died.�
“I hear my mom in my head sometimes, too.�
I think we should really just pair them up, put them in a nice straitjacket and send them on their merry way to the ward.

I don't think this should have been a series. The author is just stretching out what could have been a possibly, not entertaining per se, but an almost tolerable book and has turned it into a heap of garbage.
Lately I find myself at an impassive with most of the NA genre. I feel like I nitpick at everything in a book... or it could really just be the books.
I couldn't bring myself to like this book when the heroine is the most annoying thing in the world of characters. I was having whiplash throughout the ENTIRE book. I'm not even being over-dramatic.
Here's an example:
“Maybe she doesn't want to get to know you.�
As in referring to herself in the third person. I mean this was like literally 5 seconds before letting him basically read a love letter she just wrote him.
“What the hell does he want?�
This is her exact thought after pining over him for like a week. Oh and they keep on going these were just a few.
The tantrums:
Jade acts like a 4-year-old who doesn't get her way. Its just over the top ridiculous that she wants to impose her non drinking rule on Garret because of some so called bad childhood experiences. Her whole attitude is just stupid and annoying as heck.
She's judgmental and a complete and utter witch. I don't understand how in the world could Garret just stand there and actually have the guts to like her. Dude, are you on crack?
Oh and the schizophrenic tendencies:
This was actually a conversation they had:
“My mom.� I say it louder. “I was talking to my mom.�
There’s awkward silence. I shouldn’t have told him.
“Didn’t your mom die?� he asks cautiously.
“Yes, but sometimes I still hear her.�
“You mean like in your head,� he confirms.
“Yes. It started after she died.�
“I hear my mom in my head sometimes, too.�
I think we should really just pair them up, put them in a nice straitjacket and send them on their merry way to the ward.

I'm sorry but I feel the story was way too repetitive, I really did try to get into the story but it just didn't seem to happen. :(
I really hated Jade too, I felt she just constantly felt because she had a past she was able to be a bitch all the time, I don't see how Garrett could put up with that. If I were him I'd tell her to fuck off right away!

Choosing You is a book I didn't expect to love but immensely did . It has been in my kindle library for quite some time now and I finally decided to give it a try, something I'm now so happy about.
Choosing You is a book filled with wit, banter, romance, wealthy families and suspense. In my eyes there are so many things this book is doing right. In a lot of ways this is a typical rich boy meets poor girl story but the story is so much more than that. It's complex, with a proper relationship buildup and clear character development.
However, to really convince you of the greatness of this book I will make a list of all the amazing things this book has:
� Relationship buildup. The romance in this book feels completely genuine. There is no instant love that you see in a lot of books. Sure the attraction is there from the start but the main characters actually get to know each other and become friends, best friends actually, before anything else happens. It is a slow burn book but it's so worth it.
� Banter, insults and wit. From the very first start this book is funny, it's real and it's incredible. Jade and Garret insult each other (it sounds awful but trust me it's the best), and they tease each other and they're both so incredibly competitive. It brings a lot to their relationship.
� Suspense. It's real, behind the love story there's an actual story closely connected to the characters that shows you how wealthy, influential and political families in the US can get away with anything. Secrets, blackmail and breaking the law without consequence are all things that make this book what it is. However, it should be noted that this storyline is only secondary but oh so exciting.
� The setting. I love that this book is set at a small elite college where everyone knows everyone except for the newcomer Jade. It adds to sense of them belonging to two different worlds that later on collide. I also love that this book shows and reflects over different aspects of college culture such as parties, prejudice, alcohol consumption and sports. All of which make this book more amazing.
� Real life issues. In this book there is the loss of a parent, growing up with an addicted parent and how this affects us as grown adults. Choosing You shows us how two people from two complete different backgrounds still can have a lot of things in common.
There is so much more to this book than what I have mentioned above but in the end there is really only one thing I have left to say, read Choosing You, you will not regret it! It should also be noted that Choosing You is free right now at Amazon, so if I were you I'd grab it right away because who says no to a freebie.

Choosing You is the first book in the Jade Series by Allie Everhart. I have to say that this was a great book to start the series. This is my first book by this author, but it won't be my last. Being that this book ended with a cliffhanger�.I am definitely continuing on with the series. I have to see where Jade and Garret's journey goes. I really enjoyed this book. I thought the writing style was smooth and flowed well. This was a pretty quick read but nothing seemed rushed, so you weren't left feeling empty or missing something. I know this is classified as a NA, but I would have to say that I would classify it as a Mature YA book. I don't know if the whole series will continue on that way, but this book, even though they are college aged, is very clean. Yes there were some themes and topics that aren't for a younger reader to read and there is some bad language but nothing over powering. But I do understand why someone would place a warning on this book because I didn't think it is an appropriate book for the younger reader.
I do have to say that I loved the characters in this book. Garret and Jade, I thought felt very realistic. I thought that Allie portrayed college life pretty accurately. I also thought she gave us an interesting look into what it would be like to have parents that are extremely wealthy and have certain ideas of how things should go in life. I thought Jade was a very strong and independent person�(sometimes too independent) but after everything she went through in her childhood and then after some of things that she has to deal with in college�.most normal teenagers would've broken completely. I do hope as the series continues that we get to see Jade open up more and not shut herself off from the people who truly do care and want to help. As for Garret�..I really liked him, but I wish he would've grown a bigger backbone when it comes to his Dad and friends. I hoping to see him grow as well as the books continue. I loved the pace that the author took their friendship. I thought it was very realistic and believable. There wasn't any instant love and they didn't just throw themselves at each other�.kind of like you see with the college aged characters. They actually took the time to get to know each other. Which I found very refreshing.
We meet quite a few other people who support the main characters, but we also meet some that are a big pain the butt. Each person adds their own spin to the story.
I know I didn't talk a lot about the storyline of this book, but I didn't feel I could, because it would reveal to much. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book with a unique storyline and an easy read. There really isn't a whole lot of drama and what there is, is rectified pretty quickly. This book does have an element of suspense that is just brought to light towards the end of the story, so it will make you want to continue on to the next book.

I won't spoil anything for you, but I will tell you- with this book not all is as it seems! I figured this was just a regular contemporary romance read, I loved the plot, and was pretty happy with where things were headed and then about 85% through, BAM, the whole story takes a turn I totally didn't expect! I was genuinely surprised and excited.
If you've read any other reviews, or taken the time to check out the authors page you will notice that this is book 1 of 4, and yes, it is a cliffy! Big time. So you may want to have book 2 ready to go!
Anyway, on to the novel- Jade is starting her college life far from home, thanks to a scholarship she was awarded, and it's there she meets Garrett. The two are from different worlds, socially and financially, but are drawn to each other. Naturally, they have many issues you'd expect with that. But they also are up against so much more- there are dark secrets in their families that they are both learning about, and it will have the wheels in your head spinning!! I usually am able to guess where a books heading, not this one.
Jade is great. She's so sarcastic and sure of herself and I find it to be a great and hilarious combo. Her outlook on life is just so...jaded. I loved her, especially her huggy moments with Garrett. Garrett... *sigh* he's dreamy. I love him too! He's confident and sexy and funny and sweet and I want to marry him!!! But, he's perfect for Jade so I'll step back.
This whole story was just fantastic. It took it's time, letting you really feel like you were getting to know these characters as they learned about each other. There was no insta-love and getting married in a month crap here! I loved the authors pace. The plot seemed familiar until I got to the real good stuff and I now know it's pretty darn original.
I would highly recommend you give it a try. Some may be turned off by the fact that it's a long series, but to me it feels so exciting that I want to read more, there are mysteries to be solved! It's not just the continuation of characters lives and new random drama they face, it's a continuation of the ride we've just barely started with them, and I can't wait!

A really good NA, Contemporary Romance!!
I was pleasantly captivated by Jade's story. It was one of those can't put it down reads for sure. And I was all like, "What, no!" When I came to the end of the story! Aaah! I so need the next book! I am definitely going to see the series through. It has a good amount of mystery and intrigue to it. I like the writing and I love the plot. I like the interaction between Jade and Garrett, alot. The world that Garrett lives in is a complicated one alright.
Jade has just begun her college journey and is finding out alot of things about herself. She tries desperately to let go of the past that has shaped so much of her future. I was pretty much glued to the pages on this one. It definitely does not disappoint! If you like the coming of age drama with a side of Jacked up and hot guy, this is most definitely the read you are looking for!
Jade is a great MC who has moved on from her painful past and is having to learn to interact with others. She has kept to herself because it's safe that way and Garrett is slowly but surely determined to infiltrate her safety walls she built up. I love the progression of what they have in this book and i was pretty much stunned at the plot twist at the end!! I love the characters, the story and the setting for it all. This was definitely one of my favorites so far this year and I have no doubt that I will be reading the rest of this series ASAP!

An okay story, with a very Romeo and Juliet feel, only with a very unworthy Juliet.
Gosh, Jade was annoying. I couldn't like her.
Garret made mistakes as well, but they were somehow more "reasonable" than Jade's. And a word of caution: this ends just as it begins to get interesting. I'm not sure yet whether that'll be enough to make me keep reading.

I’ve always had my eye on this novel, so when I got the blog tour invite, I couldn’t help but sign up!
Plot
Choosing You follows a girl named Jade who has just been accepted to a prestigious university on a full scholarship provided by the Kensington family. But Jade believes that all of the students that attend will be the same—shallow jerks who will shun her for not being rich enough. So Jade instead decides to shun her. But Garret just so happens to walk past her on her move in day and helps her and her semi-brother, Ryan, move her in. After that, Garret is intrigued and starts trying to be Jade’s friend. And the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. But Jade starts getting threatening phone calls and Garret is hiding a secret from her, and these two things could be the end of whatever they have going on.
This novel was one of the more interesting contemporary new adult titles that I’ve read. What made this novel amazing was its definable plot. More times than not, new adult contemporaries tend to revolve around a growing romance. Sure, their relationship was a focus in this novel, but there was also a larger, more interesting plot that the romance supplemented. I can’t say much about the plot itself, but there were a lot of mystery and suspense factors in this novel, which I haven’t seen a lot in the NA contemporary romance genre. It was an interesting mix of things that made it so I didn’t want to put it down.
Leading Lady
“‘You think you can beat me, huh?� He stretches as well. ‘So what’s with the insults? You don’t like swimmers?� I shrug. ‘Swimmers are okay. I just don’t think they have to work that hard. I mean, the water makes you basically weightless. It’s easy to go fast when you don� have to drag your body weight around. You don’t get that benefit with running.� His jaw basically drops to the ground. I’ve just insulted both him and something that’s near and dear to his heart. Apparently this has never happened to him before. Pretty boy must be used to only getting compliments.�
Jade was our leading lady and I absolutely adored her. One word that comes to mind when I think of her is independent. She didn’t like others doing things for her. In addition to that, she was tough, guarded, and didn’t just submit to anyone’s wishes. The only thing about her that bothered me a little was how negative she was, but it was realistic due to her circumstances that we learn in this novel. I liked that she didn’t just give in to the feelings that she was developing for Garret, and she didn’t take anyone’s crap. She was determined and just overall a great character in my opinion. I can’t wait to see more of her as the novel progresses.
Leading Male
“‘I don’t know what you do to me, but whatever it is, I guess it shows on my face because everyone knows how I feel about you. Not just Ava.� ‘Is my face showing anything?� I turn it right and left. He holds it straight again, his hand cupping my chin. ‘No, because you’re not into me yet. I haven’t won you over. But I’m working on it.’�
Garret was actually a better character than I was expecting. In most of the NA contemporaries that I’ve read (excluding ones like Jessica Sorensen novels), the girl has the past and the guy helps them out of it. In this case, the girl has the unknown past and the guy has certain conditions and standards that they’re held to. I actually love those novels when the rich guy/girl falls for the poor guy/girl, because it almost always creates interesting conflict. I loved Garret because he fought for what he wanted. He was determined to win her over despite what others thought. On top of that, he also had his layers in his character. He wasn’t just the perfect guy upstairs, no—he had his own problems to deal with, which made him more realistic of a character.
Romance
“He smiles and comes up right in front of me, so close we’re almost touching. ‘You know what, Jade?� ‘What?� Having him this close to me makes my heart pump even faster than when I was running. ‘I like you, I really like you.� I don’t respond because I’m not sure what to say. It makes no sense for him to like me. I do nothing but insult the guy. ‘That said, I still think you’re rude and sarcastic and extremely difficult to please.� ‘Aww.� I tilt my head to the side, smiling. ‘That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me. Just for that, I’ll run back with you at your barely-moving pace.’�
The relationship between Jade and Garret is barely budding in this first novel. It’s more of a game of cat and mouse, to be honest. They both have feelings for each other, of course, and you can feel the tension, but Jade doesn’t want to get involved whereas Garret definitely does. And so Jade tries (and usually fails) to resist Garret’s advances. It was very entertaining, actually. So of course, I’m interested to see how their relationship develops in the next novel, especially with forces like Garret’s dad trying to keep them apart.
Other Characters
Another character that I’d just briefly like to mention was Harper, who becomes Jade’s best female friend. She was a nice and bubbly character, and I think she will do Jade well over the course of the series.
Conclusion
Choosing You was better than I was hoping and expecting. It blew me away with its amazing plot and suspenseful events. It’s one that any NA reader would love, so you should definitely give it a shot!

I’ve always had my eye on this novel, so when I got the blog tour invite, I couldn’t help but sign up!
Plot
Choosing You follows a girl named Jade who has just been accepted to a prestigious university on a full scholarship provided by the Kensington family. But Jade believes that all of the students that attend will be the same—shallow jerks who will shun her for not being rich enough. So Jade instead decides to shun her. But Garret just so happens to walk past her on her move in day and helps her and her semi-brother, Ryan, move her in. After that, Garret is intrigued and starts trying to be Jade’s friend. And the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. But Jade starts getting threatening phone calls and Garret is hiding a secret from her, and these two things could be the end of whatever they have going on.
This novel was one of the more interesting contemporary new adult titles that I’ve read. What made this novel amazing was its definable plot. More times than not, new adult contemporaries tend to revolve around a growing romance. Sure, their relationship was a focus in this novel, but there was also a larger, more interesting plot that the romance supplemented. I can’t say much about the plot itself, but there were a lot of mystery and suspense factors in this novel, which I haven’t seen a lot in the NA contemporary romance genre. It was an interesting mix of things that made it so I didn’t want to put it down.
Leading Lady
“‘You think you can beat me, huh?� He stretches as well. ‘So what’s with the insults? You don’t like swimmers?� I shrug. ‘Swimmers are okay. I just don’t think they have to work that hard. I mean, the water makes you basically weightless. It’s easy to go fast when you don� have to drag your body weight around. You don’t get that benefit with running.� His jaw basically drops to the ground. I’ve just insulted both him and something that’s near and dear to his heart. Apparently this has never happened to him before. Pretty boy must be used to only getting compliments.�
Jade was our leading lady and I absolutely adored her. One word that comes to mind when I think of her is independent. She didn’t like others doing things for her. In addition to that, she was tough, guarded, and didn’t just submit to anyone’s wishes. The only thing about her that bothered me a little was how negative she was, but it was realistic due to her circumstances that we learn in this novel. I liked that she didn’t just give in to the feelings that she was developing for Garret, and she didn’t take anyone’s crap. She was determined and just overall a great character in my opinion. I can’t wait to see more of her as the novel progresses.
Leading Male
“‘I don’t know what you do to me, but whatever it is, I guess it shows on my face because everyone knows how I feel about you. Not just Ava.� ‘Is my face showing anything?� I turn it right and left. He holds it straight again, his hand cupping my chin. ‘No, because you’re not into me yet. I haven’t won you over. But I’m working on it.’�
Garret was actually a better character than I was expecting. In most of the NA contemporaries that I’ve read (excluding ones like Jessica Sorensen novels), the girl has the past and the guy helps them out of it. In this case, the girl has the unknown past and the guy has certain conditions and standards that they’re held to. I actually love those novels when the rich guy/girl falls for the poor guy/girl, because it almost always creates interesting conflict. I loved Garret because he fought for what he wanted. He was determined to win her over despite what others thought. On top of that, he also had his layers in his character. He wasn’t just the perfect guy upstairs, no—he had his own problems to deal with, which made him more realistic of a character.
Romance
“He smiles and comes up right in front of me, so close we’re almost touching. ‘You know what, Jade?� ‘What?� Having him this close to me makes my heart pump even faster than when I was running. ‘I like you, I really like you.� I don’t respond because I’m not sure what to say. It makes no sense for him to like me. I do nothing but insult the guy. ‘That said, I still think you’re rude and sarcastic and extremely difficult to please.� ‘Aww.� I tilt my head to the side, smiling. ‘That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me. Just for that, I’ll run back with you at your barely-moving pace.’�
The relationship between Jade and Garret is barely budding in this first novel. It’s more of a game of cat and mouse, to be honest. They both have feelings for each other, of course, and you can feel the tension, but Jade doesn’t want to get involved whereas Garret definitely does. And so Jade tries (and usually fails) to resist Garret’s advances. It was very entertaining, actually. So of course, I’m interested to see how their relationship develops in the next novel, especially with forces like Garret’s dad trying to keep them apart.
Other Characters
Another character that I’d just briefly like to mention was Harper, who becomes Jade’s best female friend. She was a nice and bubbly character, and I think she will do Jade well over the course of the series.
Conclusion
Choosing You was better than I was hoping and expecting. It blew me away with its amazing plot and suspenseful events. It’s one that any NA reader would love, so you should definitely give it a shot!

I thought this was a cute story with a lot of emotion and great character development. A lot of people dislike the main character because of how rude she is, but given the circumstances of her past, I'd say her behavior and attitude were pretty realistic. The author did a great job describing the mental health effects of abuse and loss.
The only thing that bothered me a little bit was some of the cheesy dialogue. But overall, this story is a good example of someone working through her troubled past to create a happy and healthy life.

This series had every other book merged together so I'm not sure where this book exactly ends. Nevertheless I obviously am adoring Garret and Jade!

Jade has overcome a lifetime of adversity. Growing up with a mom who took pills and was drunk most of the time wasn't easy on her. Her mom yelled and screamed and Jade had to learn to do everything she could to be out of the house when her mom was mad. Then one day it stopped. Her mom was dead and she had to learn a new way to live. She was taken in by a family friend and worked hard in high school. Becoming the Valedictorian was something she probably never thought she could do, but she was determined to make something of herself. Jade also earned the Kensington Scholarship to Moorhurst College. She enters College with a plan to keep her nose in the books and no boys. Well she didn't plan for Garret.
Garret Kensington was brought up with money. Coming to Moorhurst was a no brainer considering his father donated a ton of money to the college. He was sort of dead inside though. For years he played by the rules set forth by his father. From his staged girlfriends for media reasons to his handpicked friends, Garret has just kind of strolled through life not wanting to rock the boat until he meets Jade. Jade awakens something in Garret he never saw coming.
"I like that you ignore me, making me work my ass off to chase you down. I like that you don't care what people think, including me."
Jade definitely doesn't make it easy on Garret at first. But once she starts letting him in, there is no going back. He has to be around her, she feels like home to him. Jade has no clue who Garret really is and he isn't about to tell her until he has to. Then over dinner at his parents house things come crashing down.
"I should have told her who I was on that first day we met. But I didn't. I should have told her the next day, or the day after that. But I didn't because I didn't want anything to change between us. Every moment with her was so real and so perfect. I didn't want it to end. But now it has. And I miss her. All I can say is that I'm sorry. But I know sometimes that's just not enough."
Jade and Garret have a long road ahead of them. Jade has huge trust issues and Garret I think he just is head over heels for her and is willing to break all the rules for her. I loved watching the back and forth in these characters. There are lots of bumps in this story for the two, twists and turns that you do not see coming. I was absolutely shocked at some of them! Allie Everhart did a great job with this book and makes you not want it to end.. and well it doesn't there are more books in this series. I am dying to hear what happens next!!!

What a fantastic new adult read. I hadn’t heard of this series before and I absolutely love it. After reading Choosing You I couldn’t get the characters out of my head and picked up book two shortly after. Allie Everhart has a fantastic prose and the premise was unique and fun. Ms Everhart is certainly added to my buy now list and favourites.
Jade Taylor is an 18 year old that had a terribly upsetting childhood. Hiding from her feelings and not dealing with the death of her mother, Jade doesn’t make friends and keeps to herself. Receiving a scholarship to a private college that she didn’t even apply for was definitely a surprise. Now moving across the country, away from her guardian (Frank) and for intents and purposes brother, Ryan, Jade is feeling so very alone.
Moving into her dorm room, an extremely hot boy comes to offer help. Garret introduces himself to Ryan and Jade, but Jade doesn’t want his help. Ryan accepts and together the three of them unload the small amount of belongings Jade brought with her. Garret doesn’t give up and tries to befriend Jade, asking her out to dinner and parties, but she refuses.
To relieve stress, Jade runs and runs and runs. Garret spots her and tries to join her, with their competitive streaks they race. Jade wins of course! Now Garret has shown he isn’t a sore loser, Jade agrees to go with him to dinner and a party.
This is the beginning of their very complicated relationship. Jade doesn’t want a boyfriend, but will accept being friends. The more time they spend together, the more their feelings change into something stronger and the more they want to spend with each other. With Jade’s mother stuck in her mind, it is difficult to form a relationship as Jade keeps hearing her mother’s warning about boys. Garret is determined to support and help Jade deal with her issues, but with Garret’s father trying to keep them apart, will they ever take it to the next step?
On Jade’s 19th birthday, Frank and Ryan send her a parcel full of presents. Inside is a rather unusual gift, a letter from her mother. It was written just after Jade was born and describes how Jade was conceived. Jade is in shock and has conflicting emotions, could her mother really have loved her? But now she is getting threatening phone calls to have the letter destroyed.
Can Jade work out what is going on and why this letter is so important? Will Garret stay with Jade even through the complications and against his Father’s wishes? Will they take their relationship further and become a couple officially?
I absolutely loved this book, there were so many elements and intrigue; the hardship of Jade’s childhood and conflicting emotions all added into a fabulous read. I highly recommend this book and fabulous start to the series to all new adult readers.

Review: Jo
"Choosing You" was my first Allie Everhart read and I know it will not be my last. I completely fell in love with the story of Jade and Garret.
I immediately liked Jade (the female lead in the story). She was a girl who had had a heartbreaking start in life but despite this, had shown a real strength and determination by becoming her high school's valedictorian and gaining a place at a prestigious college. From the moment she set foot on college grounds, her life was changed, even more so since she met Garret on her first day!
Garret was a fellow student who just so happened to be extremely attractive. A friendship was quickly formed between the couple but it wasn't long before that developed into something more.
Jade and Garret were sweet together. I loved watching their relationship develop, it made my heart melt how Garret was so considerate of Jade's feelings. Unfortunately Jade was plagued by fears and insecurities that developed from her past and Garret appeared to truly understand, treating her with so much love and patience. He was everything that Jade needed him to be.
Life was good for Jade and Garret and it was lovely to see how happy they were together. Garret was so romantic and did so many special things for Jade.
Unfortunately though, It wasn't just Jade that had problems, Garret also had his own fair share of trouble brewing. This couple were facing a bucket load of drama but together they refused to let this get in their way. They worked together to overcome these obstacles and for a short time it was working. Unfortunately things were about to take a turn for the worse and their problems were about to get a whole lot bigger!!
The story ended in a frightening cliffhanger leaving me wandering what was going to happen next for Jade and Garret. OMG!! This is another one of those books that leave you needing the next book fast! I give "Choosing You" 4 sweet hearts.

So umm.... WHAT!???
Holy Crap! I absolutely love Jade & Garret.
Jade has had a hard life, she doesn't trust. She doesn't let people in. She isn't a social butterfly. She can't stand drinking or going to parties. The moment she arrived at campus this young man was there and helping her. He was nice. But people are only nice for a reason right!? From her experiences at least. While away at college she gets a letter in a birthday box. This letter opens up a crap ton of drama.
Garret. OMG OMG OMG. Swoon.
This man comes from a wealthy family. One that makes him live by rules and they have to uphold certain expectations. He wants to escape that life, and with Jade, she helps him do just that. She doesn't treat him differently. She could care less about his money. He wants her, but she's making it so hard. She pushes him away at every turn. Leaves for some great angst. Which I LOVE!
Now... there was time in reading that I thought Garret was a total ass and needed to grow some balls. He found them though and I couldn't be prouder. The romantic gestures he makes for Jade are so damn adorable. It's great. He is teaching her how to "hug" lol.
It was a great read. I didn't expect to finish reading and then purchase the other 4 books in the series. Totally unexpected. I'm sure my bank account is giving me the stink eye right now.
I recommend this series. So far so good. Hopefully the other books go just as smoothly as this one.

Jade leaves Iowa behind to attend a private college in Connecticut that a majority of the students are from rich families. She received a scholarship and she didn't even know about the school or apply to it. Jade had a drunk and drugged out mother, who died when she was about 10ish. She moved in with Frank and Ryan and they were her new family. Jade doesn't really trust many people and has a hard time just letting go. She meets Garret on the first day there when she's moving in. He's from a rich family but he isn't like the other kids he's grown up with. Jade does everything she can to keep Garret to leave her alone, she insults him and acts mean to him. But Garret sees past that and wants to be with her even when she just says they can only be friends. Rich families have "unspoken rules" where you have to date certain people, they have to be from another rich, connected family.
Garret's family and friends do not want him to be with Jade. There is also someone in the background that is trying to control her and watching her to make sure that their "secret" doesn't get out.
This was a great book and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Sadly, Choosing You did not work for me.
This novel had its ups and downs. At times, I liked a few of the scenes between Garret and Jade, and even found the two cute together. Other times, I wanted to either throw the book against the wall or just walk away from it.
I had a hard time connecting with Jade. And Garret's character was not consistent. He claims he is tired of following his family's rules, he's nothing like the rest of his peers, etc. Then on the next page he goes on again about how he can't be with Jade, even as a friend, because his daddy says so. * head desk * I just couldn't get behind either character enough to fall for this book. I did finish the book, but I was annoyed by much of it and indifferent to other parts.
I have to say, I was most annoyed by the ending � or lack thereof. I did not realize before starting the book that this would be a 4 part series to the HEA. I doubt I will pick up the other books, since this one did not grab my attention like I had hoped.
I know many readers will enjoy book, and that's great! But for me, it hit slightly below average.

5 awesome stars. This book is the beginning of a wonderful series. I love Jade and how selfless she is. Growing up pretty much motherless and definitely fatherless. She has been through hell and it only makes her stronger. Downside she is very reserved and doesn't get attached too easily. She is also pretty badass in the insults department! Anyways, she gets a scholarship to a private college. Her brother like figure (Ryan) takes her to help her unpack. Insert Garret the hot typical rich boy, so Jade thinks. Garret also has a douche puddle friend Blake who I want to kidney punch- totally irrelevant, but I had to say it. Turns out she may actually like Garret. I love how Garret loosens her up. His family is a little strange though. Very controlling. The thing I love most about this book is the suspense. I love a romance book with thrill. She receives a letter from someone from her past and Jade gets a strange call threatening her and the only family she's ever known. Can't say much more or I'll spoil it. Anyways this is a must read!
