Problema de filosof铆a : 驴Qu茅 hace humano a un ser vivo?.
Problema de zoolog铆a : 驴Qu茅 aspecto debe tener un esp茅cimen para considerarle como igual/inteligente.
Problema moral : 驴Se puede follar con no humanos y como sentirse ante ello?.
驴Quer茅is saber las elucubraciones del autor sobre estas preguntas?. Vale, pues os le茅is el libro.
驴Os la trae floja sus ideas sobre estos temas tan sublimes?. Pues pasad del libro.
Creo que ha quedado claro que no es de los libros que m谩s aprecio. Aunque reconozco que mantiene el inter茅s, no me gusta ni sus preguntas rimbombantes de fondo, ni el ritmo de la novela casi en plan mon贸logo.
Me ha gustado m谩s el final c铆clico, donde la historia digamos que vuelve a empezar. No me queda nada claro 鈥揷reo que deja sin resolver- si hay alg煤n tipo de bondad, o amor por las cr铆as, o acercamiento por parte de los "tiburhombre".
Le doy un 5/10 y ya. Aunque lo encuadren en Ciencia Ficci贸n, para m铆 que no es CF. La C de la ecuaci贸n no la veo por ninguna parte. M谩s bien lo encuadro en Filosof铆a y Letras.

Libro extra帽o, por decirlo de alguna manera.
Cuando empiezas a leer y ves que uno de los protagonistas se llama Bat铆s Caff贸, ya no sabes que pensar, si la cosa va de cachondeo y si se trata de un proleg贸meno sobre las profundidades la naturaleza humana en las que nos vamos a sumergir.
La historia arranca de sopet贸n, sin ponernos en antecedentes. Te ves inmerso desde las primeras p谩ginas en una trama intensa, surrealista, donde se enfrentan muchas de las dos caras que puede presentar el g茅nero humano, sobre todo cuando de afrontar situaciones extremas se trata: la colaboraci贸n por la supervivencia frente al individualismo, la crueldad frente a la compasi贸n, el amor en contraposici贸n al odio, el pacto frente al enfrentamiento, la imposici贸n por encima de la persuasi贸n, la inteligencia o el instinto m谩s bestial, la obsesi贸n del humano por establecer jerarqu铆as en su organizaci贸n social......y as铆 podr铆a seguir un buen rato.
Dos tipos humanos que van sobreviviendo ante todas las adversidades, a sus propias diferencias y cuando "eso" a lo que se enfrentan y de lo que no puedo hablar, parece que va a superarlos en cualquier momento.
"Eso" que tiene la piel fr铆a. "Eso" cuyas motivaciones y cuyo origen no entendemos, ni acabaremos entendiendo y que acaba frustrando todos mis intentos de comprender algo.
Y el final es otra putada. Parece que el hombre, haga lo que haga, siempre acaba tropezando en la misma piedra. 驴Alguna vez podr谩 nuestra inteligencia dominar nuestros instintos m谩s primarios? 驴Es el equilibrio entre ambas lo que nos hace fuertes y cualquier desequilibrio hacia uno de los dos lados no conduce a la perdici贸n?
En fin, ni para ti, ni para mi. Creo que 3 estrellas es una nota adecuada.
Igual es uno de esos libros que hay que releer para entender mejor sus complejidades, o igual ha pretendido ser demasiado ambicioso para los mimbres de los que parte, creo que no lo voy a comprobar. En cualquier caso da que pensar, que ya es algo.
La verdad es que la variedad en los libros que ha escrito este hombre es digna de elogio. Seguiremos ley茅ndolo, a ver con qu茅 nos sorprende.

Dos tipos humanos que van sobreviviendo ante todas las adversidades, a sus propias diferencias y cuando "eso" a lo que se enfrentan y de lo que no puedo hablar, parece que va a superarlos en cualquier momento.
"Eso" que tiene la piel fr铆a. "Eso" cuyas motivaciones y cuyo origen no entendemos, ni acabaremos entendiendo y que acaba frustrando todos mis intentos de comprender algo.
Y el final es otra putada. Parece que el hombre, haga lo que haga, siempre acaba tropezando en la misma piedra. 驴Alguna vez podr谩 nuestra inteligencia dominar nuestros instintos m谩s primarios? 驴Es el equilibrio entre ambas lo que nos hace fuertes y cualquier desequilibrio hacia uno de los dos lados no conduce a la perdici贸n?
En fin, ni para ti, ni para mi. Creo que 3 estrellas es una nota adecuada.
Igual es uno de esos libros que hay que releer para entender mejor sus complejidades, o igual ha pretendido ser demasiado ambicioso para los mimbres de los que parte, creo que no lo voy a comprobar. En cualquier caso da que pensar, que ya es algo.
La verdad es que la variedad en los libros que ha escrito este hombre es digna de elogio. Seguiremos ley茅ndolo, a ver con qu茅 nos sorprende.

Creo que nunca antes hab铆a le铆do tantos libros que no me gustaran como en este 2018. Necesito una limpia o algo, amigos.
"La Piel Fr铆a" es un libro del cual no sab铆a pr谩cticamente nada, me enter茅 de su existencia por la pel铆cula y decid铆 que quer铆a leer la novela antes de verla adaptada a la pantalla grande. De inmediato ca铆 al ver que el marketing del libro dec铆a que se trataba de una historia "lovecraftiana" y de "horror".
Quiz谩 el hecho de que sea horror puede ser debatible, pero... 驴tener criaturas humanoides convierte todo autom谩ticamente en lovecraftiano? Yo s茅 que no, y que probablemente el calificativo se refiera a una idea de horror c贸smico en el cual nos enteramos de que los humanos no estamos solos en el planeta/universo y que somos m谩s bien insignificantes, pero dist贸 mucho de hacerme sentir lo que siento cada vez que leo a Lovecraft o alguno de sus pupilos.
Mi mayor problema con este libro fue el estilo. La escritura del autor hace que para contarte un hecho simple e intrascendente, se ocupen 3 p谩ginas en las que usa un lenguaje po茅tico lleno de recuerdos y reflexiones de la vida, que la verdad, m谩s de una vez me hicieron rodar los ojos hacia el interior de mi cr谩neo, para ver mi cerebro y preguntarle por qu茅 demonios me segu铆a torturando con la lectura de esta cosa.
La lecci贸n de este libro est谩 clara: la humanidad es una mierda que antes de averiguar y preocuparse por el otro, comienza atacando, matando, violando y violentando cualquier cosa que se le ponga en el camino. No es una lecci贸n menor, veamos c贸mo est谩 el planeta hoy en d铆a por como lo tratamos, los animales en peligro de extinci贸n, la poluci贸n de los oc茅anos, el maltrato a las minor铆as raciales y un largo etc.
Todo eso muy bien, pero mi problema es la manera en que est谩 abordado en este libro: aburrida, predecible y la verdad, hasta algo ofensiva. La forma en que se trata al 煤nico personaje femenino que hay, ES NEFASTA: su 煤nica aportaci贸n en la vida es brindar placer sexual "m谩s all谩 de lo que jam谩s hab铆as experimentado" y parece ser que esa es la 煤nica condici贸n humanizante que tiene. Quiero pensar que fue una cr铆tica a la forma en la que se ve a las mujeres en nuestra sociedad, pero no estoy tan segura.
En corto, si quieren una novela de terror tradicional, al茅jense de este libro. Si quieren dioses primigenios que salen del abismo y horror c贸smico, qu茅dense con Lovecraft y sus disc铆pulos... pero si quieren reflexiones "filos贸ficas" para poner en sus estados de Facebook y una historia de sexo entre humanos y hombres peces, pues entonces este libro es para ustedes (aunque si quieren esto 煤ltimo, mejor vean "La Forma del Agua", al menos ah铆 lo ejecutan correctamente).

Aus diversen Gr眉nden d眉rfte ich diesem Buch keine bessere Bewertung als einen Stern geben. Das f盲ngt zun盲chst mit dem deutschen Buchtitel, dem Klappentext und die kurzen Zitate von Reviews auf dem Cover und Buchr眉cken an. Dort wird eine 鈥瀞pannende Liebesgeschichte鈥� versprochen und Yann Martel findet das Buch nicht nur 鈥瀏ro脽artig鈥�, sondern sogar 鈥瀦盲rtlich鈥�. Dazu eine natursch枚ne Klippenszenerie im Halbdunkel und der nichtssagende Buchtitel, der sowohl einen Rausch als auch Stille verspricht. Rein gar nichts davon ist zutreffend und daf眉r geh枚rt der Fischer Verlag mit Verachtung gestraft.
Es handelt sich hierbei n盲mlich weder um einen Abenteuer- noch um einen Liebesroman, sondern um eine metaphorisch 眉berladene Horrorgeschichte mit expliziter Darstellung von sexueller und kriegerischer Gewalt. Der Titel im Original lautet 眉bersetzt 鈥濳alte Haut鈥�, was viel besser die Situation auf der kleinen Insel beschreibt, auf der in der Zeit zwischen den beiden Weltkriegen ein irischer Freiheitsk盲mpfer an Land gebracht wird, um f眉r ein Jahr das Wetter aufzuzeichnen. Die namenlose Insel nahe der Antarktis beherbergt einen Leuchtturm samt W盲rter sowie eine H眉tte f眉r den Wetterbeobachter. Schon in der ersten Nacht wird der Protagonist in seiner H眉tte von amphibienartigen Wesen 眉berfallen. Im Folgenden findet er Zuflucht im Leuchtturm, auch wenn der b盲rbei脽ige, alte W盲rter ihn nur ungern in seine R盲ume l盲脽t, denn dieser verschrobene, dicke Mann h盲lt sich eine solche Amphibienfrau als sogenanntes Maskottchen, welches er t盲glich mehrmals vergewaltigt.
Es entwickelt sich im Verlauf des Buchs die allseits bekannte 鈥濵ein Geliebter Feind鈥� Geschichte, nur diesmal bezogen auf Wesen, denen die beiden M盲nner auf der Insel jegliche Existenzberechtigung absprechen. Fast jede Nacht 眉berfallen die Froschwesen den Leuchtturm und werden dort von den Beiden routinem盲脽ig massakriert. Wenn das Buch au脽erhalb der Gewaltszenen nicht so ansprechend geschrieben w盲re, h盲tte ich aufgrund der Geschichte schon viel fr眉her abgebrochen. Aber ich hegte immer noch die Hoffnung, dass sich am Ende die Liebesgeschichte durchsetzt. Liebe bedeutet hier f眉r den Iren, dass er sich auch dem Maskottchen bedient und es nach Lust und Laune zum Sex hernimmt. Die Frage nach dem Einvernehmen wird erst gar nicht gestellt. Stattdessen setzt sich gegen Ende die Ansicht durch, dass die Kreaturen ja auch Lebewesen sind, die zu Emotionen neigen und mit denen eine friedliche Koexistenz m枚glich sein k枚nnte. Ach was.
F眉r diese platte, moralische Keule brauche ich keinen Horrorroman lesen, in dem das Blut in Str枚men flie脽t. Xenophobie rechtfertigt 眉ber weite Strecken hier jedes asoziale, verbrecherische Verhalten. Zu allem 脺berfluss ist das Ende dann auch noch offen gehalten, um die Leserschaft zum eigenen Nachdenken anzuregen. Aber durch das detaillierte Beschreiben s盲mtlicher kriegerischer Handlungen ist mir nach 250 Seiten soviel Phantasie genommen worden, dass mich das Ende nur fragend zur眉ckl盲脽t. The blurb, as accurate as it might be, make this short book sound like a horror novel. Well, it isn鈥檛, not for me. The book goes far beyond the run-of-the-mill horror genre and looks into a much deeper, much more human, abyss (from which madness looks right back at you (Nietzsche was right in that respect)).
I bought the book after I watched the first few minutes of the movie - the words from the off and the setting on the harsh looking island at the end of the world convinced me to stop watching and start reading instead. The story seemed too good to be ruined by a film.
The young narrator, who never bothers to give us his name, fled from the war (WWI), or rather he had a falling-out from the 鈥渃ause鈥� after the war, to become a weather official for a year on this small remote island, only to find there is another war going on. This time against an enemy he never would have expected or even known. And then another one, against someone he knows quite well. Will those wars ever end? For him? For us?
鈥楩raid not.

I loved this book. It was creepy and unflinchingly bizarre. It is a fun, compulsive, and at times genuinely scary read but also a great exploration of xenophobia, the fear of the unknown, as well as what makes us "human". I think the author very much deserves his comparisons to Lovecraft, although I think it is one of those stories that you will enjoy most if you know very little about it, so I will leave it at that and warn you not to read too many reviews.
This is the best horror book I have read in years - I read it in 2006 and still think about it often. In fact I decided I had to write this review because I was thinking of the story all morning and want to see if I can convince any of m friends to read it :) Still, if you consider calling a book "weird" to be a negative review, you won't like this this one.
This is the best horror book I have read in years - I read it in 2006 and still think about it often. In fact I decided I had to write this review because I was thinking of the story all morning and want to see if I can convince any of m friends to read it :) Still, if you consider calling a book "weird" to be a negative review, you won't like this this one.

Esperaba una historia de tono m谩s intimista y me encontrado con una novela llena de acci贸n y tensi贸n. Alguna cosa me chirr铆a, sobre todo como pasa el tiempo en la novela, y creo que ganar铆a con menos p谩ginas, pero es una lectura recomendable.

Bireyin 枚teki ile ileti艧imini m眉thi艧 i艧leyen bir kitap olmu艧, yazar soluksuz okunabilecek bir atmosfer sunuyor ve okur sava艧 kelimesinin i莽ini dolduran iki y眉z sayfa okumu艧 oluyor. Kar艧谋t kavramlar谋n ve kar艧谋tl谋klar谋n birbiriyle ili艧kinin asl谋nda ne kadar ince bir ipe ba臒l谋 oldu臒unu g枚stermesini de ayr谋ca 莽ok be臒endim. Es ge莽ilmemeli. Jaguar yay谋nlar谋na da te艧ekk眉r etmeden ge莽meyeyim :)

Una de mis grandes decepciones en lo que va del a帽o. Le ten铆a much铆sima expectativa, pero se desmadr贸 todo antes de llegar siquiera a la mitad del libro. Empieza con un estilo tenebroso, aventurero, y termina en una especie de romance grotesco sin pies ni cabeza. Lo 煤nico que destaco es la escritura de Pi帽ol, que desafortunadamente no fue suficiente para disfrutar la historia.

Ya en el primer p谩rrafo se advierte una prosa exquisita. Con un t铆tulo y una portada que en ning煤n momento dejan entrever el hilo de la historia, se descubre un libro con un argumento muy original y con un misterio que atrapa al lector desde el comienzo (advierto que el libro se disfruta m谩s sabiendo lo menos posible de su trama).
Pero tambi茅n debo reconocer que finalmente se transforma en una de esas novelas que entretuvieron mucho mientras se le铆an, pero que no trascienden m谩s all谩. Quiz谩 incluso sea mayor el recuerdo de la riqueza narrativa del autor y un admirable uso del lenguaje logrando que, a pesar de un limitado n煤mero de personajes y localizaci贸n de los sucesos, el lector se vea envuelto en un mundo de emociones muy bien descritas.
Al final, si bien quedan varios cabos sueltos, la forma en que evolucionan los personajes al verse enfrentados a situaciones extremas durante toda la novela, permite ir generando las propias explicaciones a esos vac铆os.
Pero tambi茅n debo reconocer que finalmente se transforma en una de esas novelas que entretuvieron mucho mientras se le铆an, pero que no trascienden m谩s all谩. "We are never very far from those we hate. For this very reason, we shall never be truly close to those we love." With those words, Catalan author Albert Sanchez Pi帽ol begins his tale of a young man who takes a position as a weather official on a remote island, out of the normal shipping lanes, along the coast of Antarctica. He is the unnamed narrator of this tale, and has opted for this position to exile himself from the rest of the world, needing some time and space to "negotiate between the devastating failures that came before and utter darkness that is on its way."
Upon landing, he is startled to find that there is no sign of the previous weather official, who is to return to the world on the very same ship. Not only is he absent from his cabin, but the inside of his quarters is in complete disarray, with additional signs of abandon and neglect. Hoping to find the missing man, accompanied by the captain, the narrator walks to the only other structure there, the lighthouse. There they find a man, Gruner, in charge of keeping the signal going, who refuses to answer any questions. Refusing the captain's offer of leaving the island, the narrator returns to his cabin and begins to put his new life in order. Things are fine that first day, but when the night comes, the narrator finds himself under attack from something not human, a group of beings who call the island home. Barricading himself within the cabin, he fights back with what little he has. Mercifully, the nights are very short, and when the daylight arrives, he realizes that his survival will depend on getting to the lighthouse and securing the cooperation of Gruner as well. This will be easier said than done, as Gruner has his owns reasons for remaining isolated. The rest of the novel details their survival not only against these odd creatures, but also against each other and themselves individually.
This is a very vague synopsis, but to say more would be to ruin it for anyone who might want to read this novel. If you carefully consider Nietzsche's statement about "he who fights with monsters," you've got the very essence of the novel. It seems at first to read as a sci-fi or speculative fiction novel (and reminded me a great deal of the work of HP Lovecraft) but it can also (and should be) read as an allegorical reflection on our fear and distrust of anything we perceive as Other. It's also an examination of the human capacity for brutality, as well as a look at the perils of self-imposed isolation that can change an ordinary human being into the worst sort of monster. The ending, although purposefully vague, shores up the idea that life is more or less cyclical, and leaves it to the reader to contemplate whether or not there is any hope for the future.
If ever there was a case for "don't judge a book by its first few pages," Cold Skin is it. I was scarcely into it when the first Antarctic nightfall came & the attacks began, and I thought "well, I'm done with this one," as I'm not really big on books with monsters unless they're the Lovecraftian sort that live tucked away on the fringes of other dimensions, threatening to make their presence known when the conditions are right. But I reread the back cover, noticed that the book had won some kind of literary award, and figured that they don't give out literary awards for simple monster stories, so there must be something I'm missing. And there was. Once I was determined to get back to the book, I couldn't put it down. While I won't call the writing brilliant (and this may be a translation issue, who knows?) , it was good enough to keep me reading, all the time wondering what was going to happen next.
Recommended, with caution -- while on one level it's a horror story, but not just because of the creatures who inhabit the sea, so people interested in Cold Skin for its sci-fi/horror aspects might be a bit disappointed in its philosophical bent. People who read mainly literary fiction might be turned off due to its focus on said creatures, but will probably get the most out of the novel.

Valoraci贸n exacta: 10/10
Le铆 este libro por primera vez hace m谩s de una d茅cada, y enseguida se convirti贸 en una de mis novelas contempor谩neas favoritas. Actualmente lo inclu铆 como lectura obligatoria para mis alumnos de 6to a帽o de secundaria, lo que me sirve de excusa para releerlo cada a帽o.
Primera aclaraci贸n: he visto que en muchas rese帽as La piel fr铆a aparece clasificado como libro de terror, y se lo compara con la obra de autores como Lovecraft. Craso error. Si bien el terror est谩 presente, y la novela tiene momentos sumamente inquietantes, eso no es ni remotamente su rasgo m谩s significativo. Es, ante todo, una alegor铆a sobre la naturaleza de las relaciones humanas. Si se insiste en buscar comparaciones, que sea con Golding y El se帽or de las moscas, que me parece una obra mucho m谩s cercana en cuanto a estilo y tem谩tica.
Antes que escritor, S谩nchez Pi帽ol es antrop贸logo, y su novela nos muestra c贸mo, siempre que exista una sociedad humana (ya sea una naci贸n entera o dos hombres conviviendo en una isla desierta), se producir谩n luchas por el poder y -dato no menor- aquellos que lo posean no querr谩n cederlo, ni siquiera compartirlo.
"Nunca estamos infinitamente lejos de aquellos a quienes odiamos. Por la misma raz贸n,
pues, podr铆amos creer que nunca estaremos absolutamente cerca de aquellos a quienes
amamos.". Con esa frase comienza la novela, y encierra una de las claves para interpretar lo que luego ocurrir谩. Tambi茅n el segundo cap铆tulo, donde se cuenta la historia previa del protagonista, funciona al mismo tiempo como anticipo y explicaci贸n de lo que luego ocurrir谩 en la isla.
Porque la historia transcurre en una isla, no lo dije. Un hombre (de quien nunca sabremos el nombre) llega a una isla pr谩cticamente desierta para desempe帽arse como oficial atmosf茅rico. En ese escenario, con solo tres personajes principales y un sinn煤mero de "extras", se repetir谩 una de las situaciones m谩s habituales en la historia humana.
Adem谩s de los efectos adictivos del poder, el libro toca temas como la deshumanizaci贸n del enemigo, la incomunicaci贸n, racismo, xenofobia, etc.
Un libro que vale la pena leer a cualquier edad, aunque seguramente lo entender谩n y disfrutar谩n mucho m谩s los lectores adultos que ya tengan unas cuantas lecturas encima.
Le铆 este libro por primera vez hace m谩s de una d茅cada, y enseguida se convirti贸 en una de mis novelas contempor谩neas favoritas. Actualmente lo inclu铆 como lectura obligatoria para mis alumnos de 6to a帽o de secundaria, lo que me sirve de excusa para releerlo cada a帽o.
Primera aclaraci贸n: he visto que en muchas rese帽as La piel fr铆a aparece clasificado como libro de terror, y se lo compara con la obra de autores como Lovecraft. Craso error. Si bien el terror est谩 presente, y la novela tiene momentos sumamente inquietantes, eso no es ni remotamente su rasgo m谩s significativo. Es, ante todo, una alegor铆a sobre la naturaleza de las relaciones humanas. Si se insiste en buscar comparaciones, que sea con Golding y El se帽or de las moscas, que me parece una obra mucho m谩s cercana en cuanto a estilo y tem谩tica.
Antes que escritor, S谩nchez Pi帽ol es antrop贸logo, y su novela nos muestra c贸mo, siempre que exista una sociedad humana (ya sea una naci贸n entera o dos hombres conviviendo en una isla desierta), se producir谩n luchas por el poder y -dato no menor- aquellos que lo posean no querr谩n cederlo, ni siquiera compartirlo.
"Nunca estamos infinitamente lejos de aquellos a quienes odiamos. Por la misma raz贸n,
pues, podr铆amos creer que nunca estaremos absolutamente cerca de aquellos a quienes
amamos.". Con esa frase comienza la novela, y encierra una de las claves para interpretar lo que luego ocurrir谩. Tambi茅n el segundo cap铆tulo, donde se cuenta la historia previa del protagonista, funciona al mismo tiempo como anticipo y explicaci贸n de lo que luego ocurrir谩 en la isla.
