Ariana and Jacob were twins, just three weeks old and adorable. But they no longer had a mother.
Carrie McCoy knew plenty about babies, but it seemed that she didn't know much about men - she'd been jilted on the morning of her wedding. Luckily for her, Will Calhoun had whisked her away from the wagging tongues of the town gossips. Then he let her in on his little pair of secrets.
Will was as stubborn as a mule and sometimes plain unromantic. But it was hard for Carrie to resist a good-looking man with two babies in his arms - especially after he asked her to marry him!
The hero was actually nice *GASP* There were very strong implications he was celibate since he started pursuing her. It didn't sound like heroine was a virgin, though she never slept with her ex. (hero has been watching her like a hawk since she was 18, so how she lost her virginity I don't know, but by the sound of it, he pursued her never really manipulated or controlled anything in her life, ever. He was a very respectful guy.) Hero was married - to the babies' mother for legalities sake, it was strictly MINO. He has always loved the heroine, and he was NEVER mean or nasty. He would have some remarks regarding her life decision and ex which may appear insensitive, but they were never hurtful. To be honest he signed up for a world of hurt by marrying heroine when she said she'd never love anyone, let alone him and he was madly in love with her. Not much angst though, and very little drama, so it may come across as a little flat. 3 stars!

This is the 3rd book in a three book series about the Calhoun Brothers. The books in the series are: Cats in the Belfry, The Real McCoy, and Two-Parent Family.
This is a match-up of the younger McCoy sister and the youngest Calhoun brothers. When Carrie was left jilted at the altar, it was Will who rescued her and brought her to his house. He engaged her to help him take care of the newborn, orphaned twins he had just adopted and to work part-time in his art gallery. They had a history together: he was always visiting her in college, sticking his noise where it didn’t belong and giving her bossy, unsolicited advice. In turn, she chose to date and attach herself to a guy who was his total opposite. Later on, he proposed marriage to give the babies a two-parent family and they did. Of course, she discovered in the end that he had loved her all along. It was so obvious anyway when he alluded to time having its own season but she had to get over being jilted.
An older harlequin romance that was a good read. The h got stood up at her wedding and ended up leaving town with the H who as it turned out had always bee in love with her. Throw in tow orphaned babies adopted by the H and you've got a really likable story!
Oh boy to read this unrequited love story after reading this unrequited love story is like a brain reset. This story was sweet!
Our h is jilted with a brief note, on her wedding day. (That is not the sweet part) It simply read: I can’t marry you…
She leaves the church in a flurry and hitches a ride with the brother in law of her sister. He takes her several hours away to his home in Charleston where she is presented with his 3 week old twins. Oh and his wife died in childbirth, oh and no one knew about the quickie wedding. Anyhoo, he tells her all about it the next day. Meanwhile, the h helps him with the care of two very little babies who need to be fed and changed often. The first night they fall into bed together(platonically) with the h waking up in his arms and kind of liking it. (Maybe the jilting was a good thing) She makes sure the H buys monitors so she can hear the babies without being in his room. As the story unfolds, these two bond and the h starts to realize that her love for her ex fiance was very surface.they didn’t even sleep together.
Here is the thing, and this is pretty obvious unless you are distracted when reading, the H is in love with the h and has been for awhile. Unfortunately he basically got himself stuck in a rather bizarre friend zone, as the h often thinks of him as being a little too bossy for her taste.
The H proposes marriage to the h because they make a good team and she has sworn off ever putting herself out there again in the love game. Plus, there is some chemistry going on here. He informs her that this will be a REAL marriage.
They get married. They go on a honeymoon. She starts coming on to him as they have 2 hours before dinner. Of course the topic of birth control comes up, because the H is in no hurry to add to their brood. She informs him that her ex wanted her on bc. This makes our H turn on jealous mode and he starts going a little too quick for our virgin h so she slows him down to inform him that the bc was for preparation of what was to come and that this is new to her. (I’m sure at this point the H wanted to do a dance, he opted for pushing back dinner, lighting candle’s, and toasting the h’s wedding night to come!) Their honeymoon commences and everything seems to be working like clockwork.
After the honeymoon, they enter a happy routine. Team parenting plus she is working for the h and is quite an asset. There is a little black moment when the H sees the h with a drunken ex fiance who finally tells her why he broke up with her. The story causes her to laugh and the ex gets a little angry and handsy. Our H is jealous and then all of the truths about his unrequited love comes out…to the h’s shock. Finally, he tells her how long he has loved her and she tells him she loves him.she thanks him for not giving up on her as she was blind to his feelings, thinking he liked her like a little sister.
The angst is low key but steady. The H was so close to losing the h to Robert her ex, that even up to the day she was to marry him, he was looking for anything to get her to stop the wedding. That is why when she went to go live with him, he asked her what made Robert romantic. He did not want to screw up this 2nd chance with her.
How do I love thee? Let me show you the ways…spoilers on the H’s gestures:
I do not always go for sweetness, but I thought this was done well. Plus after reading PJ’s very nasty hero, It was nice to have a hero who could fit the bill! Plus there was a nice epilogue 4 years in the future!
