cute, there were some rather good cutting remarks. I enjoyed the story. The second to last chapter was great. It summed up all the chaotic emotions and reasons of why Eleanor couldn't stay and still be Eleanor. It also gave Andrew every chance to make her stay (Tracy Chapman's "give me one reason" was playing in my head) but he blundered it. I feel that it needed another chapter as Andrew comes to turns with everything he did wrong and goes after Eleanor. Instead of the rushed ending that was jammed in there.

fav quote:
"I say, de Ardescote! I just drove past your cousin. the marquess. The man has never so much as nodded in my direction before and today - just now as I drove past him - he stopped me! claimed he'll offer me fifty pounds on my word that I shall never drive in the park again1 What do you think I should do about it?"

"Hold out until he offers you a hundred"

This is a gentle Regency romance which starts with rather a splendid flourish, but degenerates quite quickly into a dull and predictable tale. This sort of book inevitably runs on rails - heroine meets hero, dislikes him on sight, begins to like him but there are insuperable obstacles and so on and so forth. It¡¯s entirely up to the skill of the author to overcome the constraints of the formula and develop the characters and plot-twists in interesting ways. In this case, the heroine has a certain naive charm, but the hero seemed to veer from sympathy to sneering dislike to anger and back again at the drop of a hat. The conceit of two men competing for the lady as a wager is a very overused one, and again, the hero wavers, telling himself one minute that such a thing is despicable behaviour and the next chasing after her enthusiastically. I also wasn¡¯t very enamoured of the author¡¯s habit of telling us the thoughts of several characters, jumping from one to another within the scene. There¡¯s no law against it, but it does make the story somewhat unfocused, I find. For those who enjoy Georgette Heyer, this is a pale imitation, nothing but froth, but is a pleasant enough way to pass the time, if you don¡¯t mind the mistakes. I do; there are numerous editing errors, and the third use of ¡®ingenious¡¯ instead of ¡®ingenuous¡¯ was the final straw. One star for a DNF.

This is a sweet, light read. I love Regency novels, Annie it can be hard to find CLEAN romance--even set in that period. This is truly clean, with a few kisses and nice touches of unrequited love. ;-). It would get more stars if the writing & plot were a few notches higher, but all-in-all, this served the purpose of light entertainment well.

This was a fun regency. The story moved along well and had a fun plot. I liked Amdrew, although at times he does come across pretty conceited. Eleanor was okay, sometimes she acted a bit...spoiled. But, for the most part I liked her. I thought it was a fun read and I'll be checking out more of Nancy Lawrence's books.

Content: Clean.

During the first half to two-thirds of the book, I greatly wished that Jane Austen could read A Scandalous Season and have the opportunity to know its author. But it took a bit of a detour in the last third, no longer seeming Austenish in the least but clearly having been written for pure entertainment value. I long to read another Nancy Lawrence book and hope I like it half as well!

I don't find a different book setted in victorian regency for a long time. This is NOT a different one. The plot is usual, but I like this kind of book that makes me distracted, lightheaded. I like it. Besides, it is a clean romance.

Overall a cute story. I find Eleanor's petulance a little childish though. She refuses to have any fun during her season and I think that would be quite a downer for her cousin who is also being brought out at the same time.

I totally enjoyed this story. Well written. Not too long drawn out descriptions. Sweet characters with some modern thoughts. A fun read!
