The verse drama 'Cassandra' written by Lesia Ukrainka, one of the most prominent Ukrainian poets and playwrights, is about the tragic fate of its main character, Cassandra, the princess of Troy and the prophetess, against the backdrop of the Siege of Troy and the last days of the city. The author creates a very believable character of a woman who can see the horrible future of her family and the whole nation. She feels unbearably lonely possessing this gift. Because for her, it is not a gift, but a curse and a tragedy for no one wants to hear the truth. The author also shows Cassandra's vulnerability and the lack of determination - after all, she is only a weak woman carrying a terrible burden.
Honestly, this was my favorite version of Cassandra that we've read for this class so far? I really loved that she had a voice and opinions and the whole "is she at fault for the bad things happening after she made her prophecies?" thing going on in here. Also:
Helenos: Before you speak, THINK: Is it true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, kind?
Cassandra: That's some bullshit! We're all gonna die, do you hear me? And it's all of y'all dumbasses' fault!
Meine erste Begegnung mit einem ukrainischen Klassiker und ein Beweis f眉r die Wandelbarkeit und Interpretationsvielfalt des Mythos um die Hellseherin Kassandra.
