Inspire kids with the glittering story of pop superstar Taylor Swift! This talented singer–songwriter started as a little country girl with a big dream to become a star. Little Taylor grew up on her family’s Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania. Then, at age six, she went to her first concert she saw LeAnn Rimes, the country musician. At that moment, Taylor fell in love with country music! Some of the kids at school didn’t understand but Taylor managed to shake it off! She took her first steps towards stardom by recording a demo of cover songs and sent it to record labels in Nashville, the home of country music. However, while, she enjoyed singing others' songs, she knew all too well that she had to express herself in her own words. So, she started writing her own lyrics and melodies and her natural talent for putting her feelings into words shone through. After signing with a record label, she started working on her first album. Called 'Taylor Swift', it became very popular, very quickly. She earned a number one single on the country music charts. Then, she released her second album, 'Fearless', which was country-pop instead of just country and suddenly, everyone knew her name. She won a Grammy for her work and started to write more and more pop music for her albums. She wrote heartfelt lyrics loved by millions around the world. Despite the obstacles in her way, Taylor has always stood up for what she believes in, and always believes in herself! This powerful book will never go out of style. It features quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of Taylor’s life. Little People, BIG DREAMS is a best-selling biography series for kids that explores the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. With rewritten text for older children, the treasuries each bring together a multitude of dreamers in a single volume. You can also collect a selection of the books by theme in boxed gift sets. Activity books and a journal provide even more ways to make the lives of these role models accessible to children.
5 Almost twenty years after writing her first song, Taylor made history as the first artist to hold all top-ten spots on the biggest US music chart.
I am not a Swiftie and haven’t followed her career, but as with Elvis and the Beatles, it would be hard to miss reports of her performances and whereabouts. She grew up on a Christmas tree farm with music-loving parents who named her after someone of whom I have long been a fan, James Taylor. I didn’t know that. See how I learn things from these children’s books?
“She believed in unicorns and fairy tales, but most of all, she believed in the power of songs to tell stories and change the world.
Her grandmother was an opera singer, and when her dad took her to a country music concert, she felt the power of the singer sharing her feelings in song. So off they went, with Taylor dragging her parents to every festival and show she could find.
She took lessons, loved performing, and was quick to hop on a stage for karaoke. She loved it all. Unfortunately, where she lived in Pennsylvania, kids didn’t like her kind of music.
“Yet, school was a lonely place for Taylor. Most students didn’t think country music was cool, and a few of them made fun of her cowboy boots. But even though people weren’t always there for her, music was, and she kept pursuing her dream.
That would be hard for any schoolgirl and would have crushed most, I think. But she took a demo tape of songs she’d covered to Nashville when she was only eleven. Great enterprising spirit, but it would have been lost in the piles of demos.
It was time to do her own thing dream, write, and sing her own songs her own way.
“After being spotted at one of her gigs, Taylor recorded her first album for a record label. She became the youngest person ever to write and perform a number-one country song. It was honest, smart, and funny. Everyone loved it!
Her second album, ‘F, won four Grammys when she was only twenty. Amazing!
“Her journey to becoming a megastar had just begun!
She was growing up along with her young fans, who began following her as Swifties.
“She loved to include hidden messages for them in her lyrics and music videos.
Before she even released her fifth album 1989, she began letting fans preview it at her home.
“…she invited groups of eighty-nine of them to listen to it and eat cookies at her house.
She grew up! She began making music in many different styles, touring the stages of the world, and campaigning for different causes.
“And Taylor, the little girl who believed in fairy tales, keeps achieving even her wildest dreams! She is one of the greatest artists of her generation and a friend to millions of fans who feel her music tells the story of their own lives.
She seems to be that musical phenomenon, a genuinely nice girl, full of talent and compassion, but who refuses to be pushed around. The bio at the end tells about when the masters of her music were sold (without her permission), she re-recorded all of the albums and added some new ones. Well done, I say.
I particularly like this Little People BIG DREAMS book because the illustrations actually resemble the artist. I’m not a fan of the blocky cartoons of famous people that aren’t recognisable. And of course it’s nice to see an “uncool girl, who seems like a genuinely nice, caring person, rise to the top. We could use more like her.
Thanks to #NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for a copy of #TaylorSwift for a review which includes a few of the illustrations.
I loved this cute, little book! It’s perfect for the littles, the middles and the bigs. 😄 I don’t know of anyone who hasn’t heard of Taylor Swift by now, but if you haven’t, this is a wonderful introduction to her life, from a little child to the present-day powerhouse that she is. The illustrations are wonderful and really capture Ms. Swift’s energy and personality. Any child would be enthralled by both the colorful drawings throughout and the beautiful photos and timeline at the very end of the book. It’s a great way to create little Swifties 😉, and I am all for it! Well done to both Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara (writer) and Borghild Fallberg (illustrator). I hope they collaborate on other books!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for an eARC. All opinions are mine alone.
Taylor Swift is amazing, and if you want to read about my transformation to a dyed-in-the-wool, true blue, through and through Swiftie, read on. This book review got me thinking about TS, and then the creative juices started flowing. What follows is not meant to diminish the book “Taylor Swift in any way. If anything, I hope it enhances it. If you don’t like Taylor, please scroll on in your feed.
*ahem* Full disclosure: I am a Swiftie. I wasn’t before I took my girls to see her Eras concert movie last fall I remember seeing her debut album and liked “Tim McGraw when it came out, but then when “Red was released, a couple of famous breakup songs were extremely overplayed, and I got sick of hearing them. This was followed by “Shake it Off and “Blank Space, both also overplayed to the max (although I enjoyed a couple of other songs on 1989), and I wrote her off a little bit, subconsciously. I hated “End Game from “Reputation, so I didn’t listen to any of the other songs on there. I did enjoy the album “Lover, but when she came out with her pandemic albums, I was turned off by the covers and no capitals, so I only ever heard “cardigan one time, thought it sucked (I don’t think that now) and refused to give the rest of the albums a chance. Supremely shortsighted of me? Yes, yes indeed.
Then came the Eras concert movie. I went because other relatives were going, and I didn’t want to let down my daughter.
We sat in our seats—my brother, his wife (also my BFF), my nephew, two nieces, my daughter and myself. The movie began.
And I was absolutely blown away. I was amazed by Taylor’s performances, her charisma, her sheer enthusiasm and above all, her STAMINA. This woman apparently prepared for the tour by running at top speed while belting out each song in the concert playlist., and it shows, people.
I also was shocked not only by how many new songs I loved, but how many I had heard before, liked and didn’t realize they were Taylor’s songs!
I’m having a hard time coming up with words to describe how I felt after seeing such a powerful performance by an amazing, strong woman. If you haven’t seen her concert movie, I encourage you to see it. If you’ve been lucky enough to see the concert in person—know of my undying jealousy. My two daughters and I ended up seeing the movie multiple times and thoroughly enjoying ourselves every single time. I quickly learned all of the concert playlist, and we all sang along to each song. Precious memories were made.
As a parent, I always try to admit to my kids if I learn I was wrong about something or someone.
Taylor Swift, kids? I was wrong about her. She is a phenomenal songwriter, singer, performer and overall human being. She uses her fame and wealth for so much good. Taylor deserves all the awards, and then some. I can’t wait to see what else she produces, and I’m excited for more to come in her ever-expanding body of work. “Tortured Poets Department, anyone?
I love the Little People, Big Dreams Series. I was excited to see this book about Taylor Swift, since my niece is a big Swifty Fan. She has stayed loyal since 8 and just had her 16th Birthday. It is amazing to me how music changes people and just hearing favorite songs brings memories. My niece went to her first concert with her Dad to see Taylor Swift and I bought her all sorts of Special Items for the Concert. I am sure these memories will stay with her forever.
I still do not know that much about Taylor Swift though. I saw her at The Super Bowl and usually hear so much about her boyfriends and songs she wrote about getting through heartbreak. Yet, I was not aware of how much of a Feminist she is and also a Kind Person who tries to help people. That was great to learn as an adult. I wish there was a little more information about Taylor’s background, but it was still worth reading.
Another book that I recommended to my library. They have purchased some Little People, Big Dreams Books and I think these books are so diverse and cover so many different ideas, so the more the better. It helps kids (and adults) really think about how life can be bigger then they are sometimes told.
Excellent Book. Thank you NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for a copy of this book. I always leave a review of books I read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Quatro Publishing Group-Frances Lincoln Children's Books for access to this title.
This was super cute. I am unfamiliar with the Little People, BIG DREAMS series but I am a fan of Taylor Swift. If I still collected children's books, I would certainly add this one to my collection. It was quite charming with lovely illustrations. Although marketed for the 4-7 aged crowd, this 42-year-old high school English teacher enjoyed it.
I am pleasantly surprised. I'm not at all familiar with this collection of children's books and I really enjoyed this one! I like Taylor Swift's music a lot, although I'm not really a die-hard fan, and I'm not really familiar with the most scandalous things that have happened to the singer. I've seen Miss Americana, so most of the information in this album was familiar to me. But I thought it was very well explained and, above all, it can only be good for children: it teaches them resilience and to not be afraid to follow their dreams.
Taylor Swift is a role model for young people, and I think that's reflected very well in this children's book. What's more, the illustrations are beautiful.
Thank you to Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, Quarto Publishing Group Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is one of the ’Little People, BIG DREAMS books, which shares the story of Taylor Swift’s life from her earlier years when she lives on a farm in Pennsylvania, surrounded by Christmas trees, still believing in unicorns and fairy tales, and in the magic of songs and the stories they tell, and how those stories could change the way people viewed the world.
Music was a part of her family, so it isn’t really a surprise that she grew up loving music, her family included an opera singer, and her parents loved music, as well. She loved the connection between the music, and how it made her feel, so she shared those feelings in her songs. Once she learned how to play the guitar, she began to write her own songs, influenced by what was going on in her life.
Her first song for a record label became number one, making her the youngest person to write and perform a number one country song - quite the start for such a young age. But she would go on to do more as the years passed, and with her second album she received four Grammys.
Beyond that, Taylor has proved that she is more than just her music, she is kind, cares for those she loves, and about doing the right thing.

Many thanks for the ARC provided by Frances Lincoln Children's Books / Quarto Group
I adore the Little People, Big Dreams book series. I’ve bought them for my niece and nephews and even have copies of my favorites for little friends to enjoy when they visit.
This installment of the series focuses on Taylor Swift, highlighting her creativity, determination, and achievements, but even more so focuses Taylor’s incredible life around her kindness to others. Despite the fame and fortune she’s achieved, this small biography does an amazing job reminding little readers that even when Taylor achieved her wildest dreams, she still kept caring and kindness the focus of her existence.
I’m impressed how the book highlights some of the less than savory things that have happened to Taylor in a way that kids will understand without dragging them into the details. It even includes Taylor’s decision to re-record all of her original albums after her masters were sold.
The five stars are biased through and through. I’m a Swiftie through and through. I’ve been to the Eras tour both in-person and in theaters. I buy the albums. I have signed inserts hanging on my wall. But even though I am a Swiftie, I think this book can be enjoyed by people of all ages, whether you’re a die hard fan or not. Not to mention the illustrations are precious. I enjoyed looking closely at each one for the tiniest details of Swift’s life.
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group I received a free ARC in response for an honest review. All opinions stated above are my own!
I am by no means a Swiftie (I like my music quite a bit harder/darker), but I have all the respect for her and her musical domination over the years. This book is written for very young readers and introduces them to who Taylor Swift is and how she grew into her career. As such, it is surface level; however, too much detail would probably lose the audience it is target to. Her story is very inspiring in that it showcases following your dreams, being persistent when told no/not right now, finding a passion that can be sustained in adulthood, and being true to one's self. I would perhaps have liked a little more information on her childhood, how many times she was told "no", and how she managed both her music and school responsibilities... but then it would be a much longer book!
The illustrations complemented the story, and the illustrated Taylor through the ages really looked like Taylor!
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Taylor Swift is dropping her newest album tonight and I am waiting to listen to it. While waiting I read the Taylor Swift biography for kids from the Little People, Big Dreams series. This is very surface level with focus on her beginnings and mentioning some of her awards and honors. She is a superstar and I admire someone who through their talent created a career for herself and jobs for many others. I had hoped for a little more depth in the story but with the book geared for very young readers that is hard to accomplish.
I'm not a Swiftie (not a hater) but I'm surrounded by people who LOVE Taylor. So this book gave me a little more detail on Taylor coz I had no idea her grandmother was an opera singer. the illustrations are definetly the highlight of the book because they capture the look of Taylor and are so eye-catching! 10/10 recommend!
I've been buying these Little People, Big Dreams books for my nephew since he was born and when I saw they were doing one on Taylor, you know I had to get it. But sorry Teddy, this one is staying with me.
Quick read and a must for this series. Bought as soon as it was released. Beautiful illustrations, and a lovely summary of Taylor Swifts journey! I’ve started collecting this series of books for future children / family members children to explore and learn about people who have made history or an impact in my life directly. This was a great place to start!
As always with this series - absolutely beautiful illustrations - and what could be better timing for a Little People Big Dreams book on Taylor Swift to release than while she is on the Era's tour. Simple text, providing a rose coloured overview of Taylor Swifts early life. I especially liked that her three cats were mentioned by their full names, very cute. One for the Swifties.
Taylor Swift by Maria Isabel Sanchez is a great quick informative introduction to Taylor Swift. As someone who likes Taylor's music but doesn't know much about her I enjoyed getting to find out how her passion for music began and more about who she is as a person and artist. I highly recommend this book to veteran Swifties as well as noobs like myself.
Just another cutesy biography about Taylor Swift aimed at children.
The art design was cute, and I admire the mission behind this series of biographies, that they’re bringing the back stories of historical figures and pop culture icons that the newer generations might not know as much about, if anything at all to their attention through this fun medium.
Not much else to say except that it was cute and I really want the Steve Irwin one!
I am not a Swiftie, but I certainly respect Taylor Swift for all she has accomplished and done for herself, her family, her fans and others. The Little People, Big Dreams series is one that I really enjoy and often recommend to parents and teachers. Taylor Swift is a great addition to this series. The book shares her early life living on a Christmas Tree Farm in Pennsylvania. Her parents took her to her first concert, LeAne Rhimes, and she was hooked. She was a young girl with a dream that was not accepted in her community and she was a loner at school. Her first attempt in Nashville was a CD she made of covers, and although that is not what producers were looking for, she was encouraged to keep trying. I can't believe she wrote her first song at the age of 12! I actually listened to it on Youtube. The book goes on to share her rise to fame. I always like that these books contain a timeline with facts, and pictures at the end, as well as other resources if you want to learn more. The last pages summarize what she is like and all that she has worked for helping others. Although these books are known for their quirky illustrations, I like that this one is quite lifelike and I was able to recognize Taylor easily. If you are interested in learning about Taylor Swift, or have a young person who is a Swiftie, then pick this one up, I recommend it.
I was provided with a digital ARC of this book thanks to the publishing house, Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are completely my own.
"When they point to the pictures, please tell'em my name"
This little and cute book is the epithome of this lyric in Long Live, and I actually cried while I read this little story. I've been following Taylor since forever, I was 12 when I first heard her music for the first time, and her songwriting has been part of my life since then. This book really highlights her career and focuses on her proudest moments, but does not shy away from harder topics such as bullying and the whole "Reputation" era: it was so cute to see that described in a way that children could understand, and it was honestly heartwarming. It means so much to me than her story was narrated in this innocent way, and I love how it highlighted her strenghts and her perseverance. Just a cute little story, with awesome illustrations, that I highly recommend!
Little People, Big Dreams. Taylor Swift. Tekst: Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara. Illustraties: Borghild Fallberg.
Yes, een nieuw deeltje in de Little People, Big Dreams reeks.
Taylor Swift by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a cute, sweet, children's book about Taylor Swift's career. It tries to tie in the message of believing in yourself and your dreams, while also demonstrating how Taylor Swift did that and became a big pop star, but unlike other books I've read that are very similar, it does not go as deep or include as many of her stepping stones to get there. The book is still really cute, and inspirational for children everywhere, but I think that showing those moments closer to the beginning of her career, when she was a kid would be more impactful for younger children.
Regardless, I recommend this book to any parents who want their children to know the impact and story of Taylor Swift.
