A missing body. A bloody bear trap. Is a serial killer back from the grave?
Tok, Alaska. Cameron Prescott hopes the past stays buried. After believing her murderous husband is finally dead, the fierce survivor longs to start over with her state trooper boyfriend. But her illusion of peace shatters when she hears of a fresh killing that resembles her late husband’s grisly signature. And as the lies and bodies pile up, Cameron is convinced she's being stalked by a killer. Is trusting anyone just a path to a cold tomb?
Audrey J. Cole is a USA TODAY bestselling thriller author. She resides in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and two children. Before writing full time, she worked as a neonatal intensive care nurse for eleven years. She’s also a pilot's daughter.
I love a good Alaskan thriller, and this one did not disappoint! There's something so fascinating about Alaska it's a world many of us will never experience, making it the perfect backdrop for a gripping story. Audrey, the author, is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Her books are always compelling and grab my attention from page one.
Set in Tok, Alaska, the story follows Cameron Prescott, a fierce survivor who hopes her troubled past is finally behind her. She believes her murderous husband is dead and is eager to start fresh with her state trooper boyfriend. But just when she thinks she's found peace, a new murder pops up with a chilling resemblance to her late husband's style.
Cameron is horrified to learn that the evidence points to someone within law enforcement. This revelation makes her question how well she truly knows her new man. As the lies and bodies pile up, she's convinced she's being stalked by a killer. The big question is: can she trust anyone, or is she just walking towards her doom?
There's a lot of "whodunit" in this book. My perspective kept shifting, and I was never quite sure who the real killer was. Maybe it was the fantastic writing, or perhaps I was just having one of those moments, but I did not see the ending coming at all.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Spotify Audiobooks for giving me the chance to read and review this audiobook ARC. If you're looking for a thrilling read set in the intriguing Alaskan wilderness, this book is definitely for you!

Oh. My. God. Having read—and lovedThe Final Hunt, I knew I was in for quite the treat with its sequel. Needless to say, I wasn’t let down in the least by the brilliance that I found within The Last Hunt’s spine-tingling pages. With compelling characters, an atmospheric setting, and a fast-paced, addictive plot, I got pulled into this book from the very first page. After all, the prologue threw me straight into the deep end in all of its action-packed glory. And that was before I encountered even one of its jaw-dropping reveals.
What kept me thoroughly engaged, however, were the dynamic characters who came alive on the page. Growing in depth from the last book, both of the narrators struck a chord with me even more so than the first time around. In fact, I was shocked to discover that I loved this continuing saga even more than book one. With heart-pounding action, a healthy dose of foreboding, and plenty of red herrings, it was a thriller lover’s dream from beginning to end.
All in all, from the palpable tension to the well-developed plot, there simply wasn’t a thing not to love about each and every piece of this finely tuned mystery. Cole truly went above and beyond to deliver a superlative novel with non-stop suspense and precise plotting that left me fully immersed in Cameron’s newest crisis. Now I just have to hope, pray, and maybe even beg for a book three in this unputdownable, explosive, binge-worthy, mesmerizing series. As for every thriller lover out there, you simply HAVE to get your hands on these books. And please, start at the beginning. You’re not going to want to miss a minute with Cameron. Rating of 5+ stars.
*One final note: While this could potentially be read as a stand-alone, I wouldn’t recommend it. In addition to the spoilers you would encounter, you might find yourself lost here and there as details are slow-dripped into the plot. Plus, as I’ve already said, you’re not going to want to miss out on a minute with these magnificent characters.
Thank you to Audrey J. Cole for my complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Cameron is trying to start over after all that happened in The Final Hunt, but is finding it hard to do so when new murders are happening that show similarities to how her ex husband did his killings.
Oh boy, the action never stops and the pace is super fast, which is what I’ve come to expect from this author. I loved that there were two different police forces working. Having some chapters from the victims really helped to keep me engaged. I, also, loved who the killer turned out to be because I didn’t really see it coming since there were a couple different options. I highly recommend this series.
Series notes: I would definitely read The Final Hunt first. This is somewhat a continuation of things that transpired in that book, but there are new standalone parts in this one.
Narration notes: I thought she did great. She showed proper emotion when necessary. Since we do have some male POV’s a male narrator would have been nice.
I loved the first one, so I finally read the 2nd one! 🖤
It was good. A lot of suspense. I kept going back and forth of who I thought the killer was. In the end, when the killer was revealed, to be honest I had wished it was the other scenario personally. I am trying to say that in a way without giving too much away. But I personally wanted one of the other suspects to be the killer and I think it would have been an even better story that way.
It also got a little unbelievable at the end and felt a little far fetched. But I can overlook that, because overall it was a good, suspense filled story.
I hear there will be a 3rd and I will read that one too.
This second book of Audrey J. Cole's The Final Hunt series picks up right where book one, (The Final Hunt) concluded.
Filled with even more thrills and chills, The Last Hunt kept me on the edge of my seat and my pulse pounding from start to finish. There's a possible serial killer in Tok Alaska. Doesn't get much more chilling than a plot which takes place in a freezing cold small town where your top suspects are Tok state troopers. Good stuff.
Highly recommend. As a matter of fact, every book I have read by Audrey Cole has wowed me. Can't wait for book three, The First Hunt, scheduled to be released June 2025.
I loved this book!!! 😍 @audreyjcole was a new to me author last year…and I loved The One so much that I couldn’t wait to read more. ❤️After finishing The Final Hunt up in February I couldn’t believe that I was lucky enough to get this gorgeous sequel!! 😍 Hands down 5 stars!! Pub date for The Last Hunt is June 25th!! 🥳 Thank you @audreyjcole for my gifted copy.🥰 Listen to this..
You found out your husband is a serial killer…😳 OMG right?? Except karma is really a bitch for John because he was mauled to death ☠️ by a bear 🐻.. WHAT??! Right??
So our girl Cameron is finally putting her life back together OBVIOUSLY 🙄 she is going to have a few trust issues with another man since you know the serial killer hubby and all 😬 but she has moved on Dane is quite a catch or is he? 🤔
History is starting to repeat itself girls are being murdered and they are just John’s type. except John is dead WELL. presumed dead as his body has never been found 😳😳😳 Hold on for a wild ride!! 😉
I loved this book!! You know how there are certain books that it takes a hot minute to get into?? Not this one 😏..in fact as soon as I read it I noticed that all of @audreyjcole books grab you from the very first page. 👏👏The intensity was off the chain. I couldn’t put this down!!
This can totally be read as a standalone but honestly the first book is SO fantastic that I highly recommend a binge read!!! Both books are super fast reads! I love her writing!! 😍
After reading the prequel, I was thrilled to get an ARC of this book! I really love this author, and she does not disappoint! With twists and turn every which way, this book is fast paced and very entertaining! She does a great job of refreshing our memory about The Final Hunt as well as having us riveted to this new plot! I enjoyed it very much! If you haven’t, please read The Final Hunt first as it will add to the enjoyment of this book! And after that, read her other books. I’ve enjoyed them all!
“There are some things in life you will never know you’re capable of until you’re faced with it. Killing is one of them.
Cameron Prescott seems to be on a roll making poor relationship choices. When her most recent and now former husband, John Prescott, is dubbed Seattle’s infamous ‘Teacher Killer, Cameron changes her identity and location in an attempt to distance herself from John, Seattle’s most prominent criminal defense attorney. In the previous book, ‘The Final Hunt, Cameron is certain that she’s rid herself of him…forever. Now, she’s not so sure.
A dentist and widow, Cameron has moved to Tok, Alaska, a town of 1200 and tried to move forward with her life. She takes comfort knowing that the isolated town surrounded by forest land for hundreds of miles allows her anonymity. Adding to her comfort is the fact that her latest boyfriend, Dane, is an Alaskan State Trooper.
Her world is shattered by a fresh killing which is eerily similar to her late husband’s grisly signature. Cameron, confronted by evidence, is now forced to consider that (1) John may still be alive and that (2) she’s in his crosshairs. Can a serial killer come back from the grave? Is there a copy cat in this isolated small town?
Audrey J. Cole writes spectacular thrillers. I read this book in isolated Smuggler’s Cove in Skagway, Alaska. My views of a breathtaking fjord and the much-needed solitude did not alleviate my reactions to the heart-pounding thriller Cole masterfully crafted. I heard every twig snap and every stone move as the water lapped the shore. My imagination kicked into high gear and I was convinced someone was watching me and my husband. Cole’s intimate knowledge of her setting and her ability to evoke a strong emotional response is why I keep coming back to her books and eagerly anticipate her next thriller.
This spectacular book will have you re-evaluating who you trust and taking inventory of who you’ve let get close. You’ll definitely reframe ‘final, have a heightened sense of security, and become very aware of your surroundings.
I was gifted this copy by Audrey J. Cole, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
In Book 2 of this series, Cameron Prescott has pulled up stakes and moved to Tok, Alaska, to start over with her state trooper boyfriend Dane Waska following the revelation that her husband John was a serial killer. Although John is presumed dead from a bear attack near his cabin in northern Washington state, a fresh killing in Tok resembles her late husband’s grisly signature. Tok is pronounced "toke" in case you wondered. I was pronouncing it as "tock" throughout the first book but this time I had the audiobook so now I know better.
I enjoyed this book but was getting annoyed by the constant repetition of certain threads, especially the fact that Cameron believes John is still alive and is responsible for recent deaths in the Tok area. Overall though it was a fast-paced read with some pretty tense moments. I loved the setting. This could probably be read as a stand-alone but do yourself a favour and read "The Final Hunt" first.
I had downloaded a copy of the book from Netgalley a couple of months ago but never looked at it until recently and it was impossible to read, like it was written in code. Since it was already archived I couldn't request it be sent again. By a stroke of luck I recently requested and was approved for the audiobook. Whew!
When I first started listening to the audiobook I didn't think I was going to like the narrator because she had a kind of whispery voice but once I got used to it I quite enjoyed Leslie Howard's narration.
My thanks to Spotify Audiobooks for providing a copy of the audiobook and to BooksGoSocial, both via Netgalley, for the digital copy of this book. I've read other books from this publisher and have never had a problem before so I'm going to start opening the ARCs as soon as I get them. All opinions expressed are my own. Publication Date: June 25, 2024
Thank you for my advance copy of this book - I fully enjoyed reading this one.
Oh how fun it was to be able to read more adventures of the characters from the first book, “The Final Hunt. If you haven’t read that book yet I recommend that you do, as this book references many of the scenes that happened in that book. To have to the full picture of this one, you need to have read the first one.
Ever since I read, “The Pilot’s Daughter, last year I quickly became a fan of Audrey J Cole. She’s such a talented crime writer and her stories fill you with anxiety - in a good way. I have read all of her books - to date, and have enjoyed them all. This one did not disappoint.
Cameron thought she’d escaped her past for good until someone starts murdering young women again. She packed her bags up and made a permanent move to Tok Alaska, starting her life over. But she will quickly learn that no matter how far you run the past is always just a little ways behind you. It’ll catch up to you whether you’re ready for it or not.
This book is packed full of action, from the beginning to end, and will keep you entertained throughout. It was fun trying to figure out who the murderer was. During the first half of the book I was going back and forth between suspects, but by the middle I had my mind set on one particular person. While I had my guesses, the killer isn’t revealed until the very end.
The backdrop of the Alaskan wilderness makes this book even more special. The scenery becomes a type of character of its own. It’s just the perfect setting.
So buckle up and enjoy the ride. 5 stars all the way!
This book is every thriller lovers dream! It had constant action, it was heart pounding with all of the excitement, and lots of murder mysteries. If you haven’t already read The Final Hunt, book 1, what are you waiting for, because you don’t want to miss The Last Hunt when it comes out.
This book is 5 bright shiny stars and a must read! I absolutely loved it and I think this is my favorite book by the amazing Audrey J Cole!
I went between the book and the audiobook and let me tell you both ways of consuming it were great! Since I couldn’t put it down, anytime I couldn’t read it, I was listening to it. The narrator did a great job of bringing it to life!
****Many thanks for Audrey J Cole for my gifted copy in turn for an honest review.
I listened to this immediately after The Final Hunt. The Last Hunt is Book 2 in the series. Attempting to read as a standalone would literally feel like starting in the middle of a book. And since I read them back to back, I enjoyed this extended story. The two books flowed flawlessly. Lots and lots of drama and suspense. Again, I found the major twist to be predictable, but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment because I enjoyed the writing and storytelling.
Setting: Alaska in August
Thank you NetGalley and Spotify Audiobooks for this audio ARC.
The Last Hunt is a gripping book that I read in one sitting. I literally could not put this book down! Wow, what a ride! Cameron Prescott has survived a lot and relocated to Tok, Alaska to find some peace. Cameron found out that her husband John was a serial killer. He murdered young women that were teachers. Cameron had no idea that she was married to a monster. Cameron's first husband abused her and was violent. Cameron survived both marriages doing what needed to be done. She thought both were in her past, but were they?
Cameron's boyfriend of 6 months is a state trooper named Dane. She really likes Dane and can see a future with him. Cameron is the only dentist in town and has gotten to know most of the people of Tok. When a young woman is murdered in similar fashion to how her husband killed women, Cameron gets a bit freaked out. Is John still alive? Has he found Cameron? Is he coming for her? Dane's wife died in a car crash he told Cameron. When Cameron finds out that's only part of the story, she wants to know why Dane had withheld the truth. What's Dane hiding? Can he be trusted? The murders taking place in Tok now resemble murders from the 90's. One of the suspects was Dane's father, a state trooper at the time. Could Dane be mixed up with these murders?
The Last Hunt is loaded with suspense and it just keeps coming. I rate The Last Hunt 5 stars with my highest recommendation. It's one of the most exciting thrillers I've read this year. The book is now available so what are you waiting for? Don't miss this fantastic book! I can't wait to read more from Audrey J. Cole! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Rainier Publishing for an advanced copy of The Last Hunt in exchange for a fair review. #TheLastHunt
This is book 2 of a series but I feel like it could be read as a stand-alone. It’s a fast paced and well written murder mystery. A serial killer is on the loose again and they have to be stopped. I fell right into rhythm with the story. Would I be like Cameron after her two failed marriages. Probably and everyone looked guilty to me. I loved the twists and turns and definitely recommend this. Thanks Bookouture via NetGalley.
I was scrolling through Spotify when I found this audiobook and randomly decided to give it a listen. At about 65%, I realized this was the second book in a trilogy. Whoops.
Typically I don’t like audiobooks OR thrillers, but this was actually a pretty fun listen. I had a good time and probably would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first book (I really wish I knew John better). Despite skipping the first book, I had no issues keeping up with Cameron’s story. Might even backtrack and listen to the first book too??
TITLE: THE LAST HUNT AUTHOR: Audrey J Cole PUB DATE: 06.24.2024
Tok, Alaska. Cameron Prescott hopes the past stays buried. After believing her murderous husband is finally dead, the fierce survivor longs to start over with her state trooper boyfriend. But her illusion of peace shatters when she hears of a fresh killing that resembles her late husband’s grisly signature. Horrified to learn the evidence points to a member of law enforcement, Cameron questions how well she knows her new man. And as the lies and bodies pile up, Cameron is convinced she's being stalked by a killer.
THOUGHTS:
The Last Hunt is another winner from author Audrey J Cole - it is exciting, griping, and a nail biting read that had my heart palpitating way too late into the night. The story focuses on Cameron, a dentist whose husband John was discovered to be a serial killer. Now she is starting her life over in a remote part of Alaska with her boyfriend Dane, a local police. I enjoyed the writing, the fast paced twists and turns of the story, and though I didn’t read book 1 just yet, I felt that the author did a great job catching up the story from book one.
A character-driven, fast-paced and exciting thriller. The story centers around Cameron, a tough survivor who happened to marry a murderer. Believing he's dead, she tries to move on, but then a dead body is found with her husband's signature all over it. She then starts to wonder about her new beau Dane. With all this happening, you can't help but be glued to the page. Although this one works as a standalone, I wish I had read the first book in the series, The Final Hunt first.
I vowed never to make this mistake again - however I have once more fallen into the trap of reading a sequel without realizing its part of a series! Thankfully I think Last Hunt works just fine as a stand-alone however I will mention series elements further down.
Overall I would say the plot is fairly standard thriller, however with a quite pleasant (well pleasant from a enjoyable read POV) twist that the majority of the book is focussed on the MC and her experiences as a survivor, there are some police procedure type scenes but they mostly consistent of Detective Tanner eating gum and trying to talk on the phone while others interrupt him.
No the majority of the story is about Cameron, trying to balance the guilt of some her past actions, with the paranoia that her past might still be coming for her. Because I was unaware of the first book I genuinely thought that the author was trying something a bit different and placing their thriller story in the aftermath of a serial killer investigation - and strangely either way it works. I think readers of the first book might be a little more connected with Cameron, whereas as a new reader I was more sucked in by the complexities of her past and her life (and I confess to the point where for a moment or two I though 'gasp maybe she's the killer' a thought that wouldn't work if you knew this book was a sequel right?)
I liked that the book leaned more into the psychological than the action - the final scenes were I thought a little tropey but not disappointing. A good book. .
Tok, a small town in Alaska, is the last place you expect a violent crime to occur, let alone a serial killer yet this isn’t the first time a serial killer has murdered in Tok and when another young teacher is murdered, the small town is questioning whether bad things come in threes?
The last hunt is a fantastic book that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time questioning everyone’s motives.
The female protagonist Cameron is trying to rebuild her life after discovering her ex-husband was a serial killer targeting and assaulting young, female teachers. When another teacher winds up dead she is convinced her ex-husband is still alive and coming to get his revenge against her.
Cameron’s new partner is a Sargent in the local police force who isn’t convinced the her ex-husband is alive but what he does know is the new victim fits the MO of a serial killer from Tok several decades prior. And the suspected killer was a police officer
The chapters written from the point of view of the victims are tense and terror-stricken. The emotional response and thought patterns feel very real and human. You can’t help but fall in love with them and grieve their loss and pain.
As Cameron deals with complex emotional trauma, uncovering layers of secrets and things better left alone, you will fall in love with the characters and vow vengeance on their behalf.
The last hunt is a sequel but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend picking it up.
The Last Hunt is the first novel I stumbled upon by this author, and it definitely won’t be the last! Although, I again read this about halfway through before realizing it was actually second in a series- but it seemed to read just fine as a standalone! (Oops) ~~~ Cameron is both equally a survivor, as well as still walking on egg shells trying to rebuild her life after her husband’s death. The important thing to note here, though? The dude was a serial killer! And, the circumstances surrounding his death may be a bit…questionable. (Oh, gee darn.) (jk. Bye, Felicia)
Fast forward a year. She’s seeing a new man after moving to a new, more secluded town in Tok, Alaska; she has a cozy cabin home right next door to him. Life is good! But- twist alert. A body is found in Tok. …And then another body. The evidence of both are familiar, and it brings up lots of emotions for Cameron. Could a serial killer be back from the dead? Is her boyfriend who he says he is? Can this really be happening, again??! ~ This book was action packed with a whole lot of psychological twisty goodness in between! The ending, though, seemed kind of like a fire cracker that got a little waterlogged- still with a bit of “oomph, but not the full effective “wow! (If that even makes sense). Anyway, I’m going to add the first book of the series to my list now!!
"You're not the first one to move to this remote Alaskan town to escape your life. And you won't be the last."
THE LAST HUNT is packed with mystery, dread and action with a pace so fast I couldn’t put it down! Audrey has outdone herself with finely crafted layers and characters that get under your skin. Definitely read ‘The Final Hunt before reading this one, otherwise you’ll get spoilers for the first book and miss out on character development and nobody wants that! This one picks up right where the last one left off. YES I got my lingering questions answered and I was pleased as punch with the result!
Once again this begins with breathtaking intensity and the suspense doesn’t let up THE. ENTIRE. TIME. More deaths happen in the same small Alaskan town of Tok! These new killings resemble those of Cameron’s husband John! What’s going on?! There’s also strange similarities to old unsolved homicide cases from the 90s when John was just a kid. Who did THOSE killings? With a new man in her life, Cameron doesn’t know WHAT to think! I absolutely loved the inclusion of old cases and Tanner’s (the detective) continuing involvement in Cameron’s plight. The interactions and understanding that grows between Cameron and Tanner is one of my favorite progressions. This installment was even more gripping than the first and that’s saying something! There’s quite a bit of suspicion and doubt about WHO was doing WHAT to WHOM and WHEN, that made this an intense engaging read.
I can’t say much more because I’m a big believer in no spoilers and even the blurb on the back of a sequel can sometimes give away tidbits from the previous book. Just trust me, if you’re a thriller lover who enjoys a serial killer plot, you need to read BOTH of these and go in as blind as possible! ____
Thank you Audrey J. Cole for the free book. All opinions are mine. ____
My Rating: 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ fairly entertaining, not perfection but kept me going - I came back for book 2!!
Ok so this is book two, I have reviewed book one and I am not going to recap the premise because in case you don’t want a spoiler, me recapping will spoil it.
Cameron is back, and things in her life have moved on shes moved away from Seattle (due to reasons in book 1) and shes got her own dental practice there and a new boyfriend. Things seem to be going well Until there are some murders that Cameron our citizen gone rogue absolutely must get involved in. I mean who better to investigate a murder than your local dentist.
Now I know I am being sarcastic but as with book 1 this is the time to ball up your disbelief, take a run up at a cliff and smash that shit right over the side. Don’t ever look back for it its going to be all unbelievable from here on in. Which if you are expecting that its fine
The writing is the same in this book as the first, which is ok but not great. But it didn’t particularly bother me. I think it would go alright on audio actually if you are into audio books (I am not so I sucked it in through my eyes).
This is a reliable, citizen gone rogue, chuck away your disbelief entertainment story its on KU so it’s easy to return if it pisses you off but I didn’t mind it. I preferred the first one if I am honest. But I did enjoy this. I like Cameron even though shes a bit of an idiot and I definitely like her bestie at the motel shes fun.
Overall, if you liked the first one you will like this one as must I reckon. Its another good one to pick up when you can’t decide, easy to read and mindless fun. Now, is there a book 3 you ask yes its being released this year. Karly, will you read it you know the answer to that Hell Yeah I am gonna read it I am invested in Cameron’s wild life now. I need my fix of local dentist solving crimes, what could be better!!!
WOW! Audrey J. Cole’s latest, The Last Hunt, was an absolutely exhilarating sequel to The Final Hunt.
The book picks up right where the first one left off. Cameron thought she left all of the death and murders behind her when she moved to Tok, Alaska. But shortly after her move, more people begin getting murdered and she thinks the past is repeating itself.
This book sucked me in just like I knew it would!! I could easily read at least 5 more books with these characters.
Thank you to Audrey J. Cole, NetGalley, and Rainier Publishing for this ARC. The Last Hunt will be on sale on June 25, 2024.
The Last Hunt is the second book in The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole. The Last Hunt picks up right where The Final Hunt left off. In The Final Hunt Carmen learns that her husband was a serial killer and that he was dead. In The Last Hunt, more bodies are being found and the evidence points toward her husband as the killer.
WOW! Is her husband dead or not? Has he come back from the dead to continue what he started? Or do they have sort of a copycat killer on their hands?
WOW! What an intriguing way to start a story, right? The Last Hunt drew me in from the first page and had me racing to the end as I was shocked by the many twists that kept popping up. It kept me guessing as to who the killer actually was.
I do believe at times Carmen was guessing herself. I think it kept her on edge not knowing what to think. I bet she asked herself on numerous occasions if she was safe. I wonder if she also asked herself if her husband had returned from the grave as he was not done.
I would love to read more stories in The Final Hunt series.
I highly recommend The Last Hunt to all thriller fans! Grab a copy of The Last Hunt today!
This series reminds me a lot of 's novels, and I am here for it.
I can always sink my teeth into a good whodunit with a badass woman at the wheel. Don't you hate it when the main character is some bubblehead who makes all the obvious mistakes? That is certainly not the case here, as Cameron is smart and steady, as she navigates some pretty crazy action in the tiny town of Tok, Alaska, where she's decided to try to make a safe home for herself.
This follow-up wasn't as compelling or shocking as , the first in the series, but it was just as satisfying. The twists were believable, and packed a good punch.
The perfect, twisty follow up to a great thriller.
I love a book that provides multiple POVs and keeps me guessing until the end, and this one did that! It was a very fast paced read, and I was able to read the whole thing in one sitting. I highly recommend reading the first book (The Final Hunt) before this one, because the storyline does carry over in the best way.
A great read for fans of murder mystery thrillers, I would definitely recommend the series!
What is it about thrillers set in Alaska? I just can’t get enough of them. I went into this not having read the first, and while I was still able to follow it, I wish I had read the previous one! I think I would have felt more connected tit the characters. That said, this was a quick listen and it kept my interest throughout.
Thank you to NetGalley and Spotify Audiobooks for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Cameron Prescott is hoping to have a fresh start with her boyfriend, who is a state trooper. Living in a remote part of Alaska should provide the kind of life she is craving. Sadly, her past might be catching up to her.
Her late husband is supposed to be dead after being mauled by a bear. BUT, when evidence that links to a missing person has the markings of her late husbands deeds, she hopes he is not alive. He was a serial killer!
Cameron finds out that the evidence is pointing closer to home. Can she trust her boyfriend? Is he being framed? Is her late husband really dead? Is he setting someone else up for the fall? So many questions, and scenarios for this novel full of non-stop action!
Once again Cole’s novels transport me with a chilling psychological thriller like no other. I have been to Alaska and could imagine every move and all the details of the wilderness. Ready for her next novel. This one is out June 25, 2024.
