He’s a happy bachelor with a simple life on his family’s ranch. She’s a single mother fleeing an abusive husband. Will love become the haven she needs or will her past destroy any chance for happiness.
Sammie
I didn’t mean to kill my husband. All I wanted was to escape his abuse and start a new life with my daughter as far away from him as possible. But in one life altering second I had to decide—run or stay and face his family and a possible murder conviction.
I ran.
What else could I do? I’m all my daughter has in this world. I’ll do anything to make sure she’s safe.
My path led me to a new identity, a job and rented room at the Crescent Moon Ranch. Even though I don’t deserve it, the Moon family welcomes me into their loving world. Especially the youngest son, Thad Moon. He’s everything a woman could want—smart, kind, handsome. If only I could tell him the truth about who I really am. But doing so would expose him and his family to danger and scandal. And the last thing I want to do is hurt another family.
Thad
Sammie Scott has secrets. She’s clearly running from someone dangerous. I’m not even sure of her true identity. Regardless, I’ve fallen for her and her little girl. All I want is to keep them safe and give them the life they deserve. But until I know who she really is and what she’s so afraid of, there’s no hope for an honest, loving relationship.
Tess Thompson returns with the fourth installment of her beloved clean-and-wholesome Crescent Moon Ranch series. In this friends-to-lovers, small-town romance, the youngest Moon brother will do anything to protect the woman he loves, even if it means risking his own life.
Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.
Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.
She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.
Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.
She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.
She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter: . You’ll receive an ebook copy of her novella, The Santa Trial, for your efforts.

A person with an unreconciled past , cannot move into the future with someone else or could she ?
I have been waiting for this book! We have been introduced to Sammie and Chloe in previous books, but we have not really gotten their full story till this book.
We know Sammie is guarded, and the reader is the only one who knows her past, can Thad ( who is hopelessly in love with her ) help her reconcile the past so she could move into the future with him?
I absolutely love the Moon family , and I so glad we got to catch up with all of them! I cannot wait for more of this family!
Just love this series and the Moon family. This time Thad finds his HEA, it was love at first sight. Not sure if it was Sammie or Chloe who his heart fell for first. Sammie and her 3 year old daughter Chloe are spending the Thanksgiving weekend at the Crescent Moon dude ranch. A splurge to her finances since she needs a job, but also on the run from her nightmare of a life. Asking and surprisingly getting a job at the restaurant at the ranch. The Moon family has opened their arms and hearts to Sammie and the cuteness of Chloe. Sammie has secrets, not telling anyone about her past, but Stella Moon sees herself in Sammie and guesses at the what her secrets are. Will Sammie be able to hide from her past or does her past find her? I throughly enjoyed this story, had several different elements and love will win out in this clean romance. I will say I did guess the direction the story was going, but needed to see it I was right. I would recommend reading the previous books so that you have the background on the Moon’s. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #HavenMoon #CrescentMoonRanch
Another heartwarming book in the series by Tess Thompson. Sammie is a single mom on the run with her young daughter. Her abusive husband attacked her and she finally defended herself, the gun he was pointing at her went off during the struggle and shot him instead. Now she’s on the run and her only mission is to keep her daughter safe. When she arrives at Crescent Moon ranch she feels like she’s come home. She gets a job there but is still ready to run if the need arises. Can Thad break the barrier around her heart and make her realize she and her daughter are safe there. *I received this as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
Another great book in this series! Once again we’re back in Montana on the Moon family ranch. It’s definitely a place that sounds like it would be beautiful to stay for a week. The Moons are a close knit, loving family and their staff are family to them. That’s why when one is in trouble they circle the wagons and come to their aid. Sammie, whom we met in a previous book, and her daughter Chloe, are running from trouble she hasn’t wanted to share. But Thad Moon cares for them both and wants to help. It’s a heartwarming yet suspenseful story this time that I think readers will enjoy.
An AMAZING book was just added to the Crescent Moon Ranch series. Haven Moon is by far the best book in this series. You will be captivated by Sammie’s story right until the very last page. The Moon family are those people that everyone wishes they had in their circle of friends and their support definitely does not disappoint. To appreciate this book as much as I did, I highly recommend that you read the previous books in this series in order to gain a complete understanding of the setting and background of Blue Fern and its team of characters. This romantic mystery is one I will not forget. Tess Thompson really outdid herself this time! Thank you to 4Kids5Cats Publishing for an early review copy at my request. All thoughts are my own and freely shared.
Our return to Crescent Moon Ranch is intense. The story starts with Sammie and 3-year-old Chloe escaping from a horrible, terrifying life. Husbands and fathers are supposed to love, cherish and protect, but not this one he hurts. He yells and hits and slaps and punches and has even thrown little Chloe against a wall. Sammie has been carefully planning their escape: she’s saved as much money as she could and learned a little self-defense. But timing will be everything and timing is not on Sammie’s side. In a weak moment she confided a bit of her life and the abuse to someone, but that someone betrayed her, didn’t keep Sammie’s secret, and her husband has found out. Now he’s come home drunk and with a gun, threatening to kill her. A struggle, a gunshot, and Sammie realizes she and Chloe must leave immediately. Her husband’s family runs the town; the police do their will. Just run, just go until it starts to feel safe enough to stop. After some wandering they arrive at Crescent Moon Ranch, intending to just spend a couple days in a nice place while Sammie catches her breath. Everyone she meets in so welcoming and has such a calming presence she wonders if there is some way they can stay for a while. When she’s offered a job and a place to stay it’s a godsend.
Thad now runs the family dude ranch. The youngest of the Moon brothers, he’s grown into a smart, kind, thoughtful, tender man. Chloe takes to him immediately, becoming playful and talkative, something she hasn’t been since they went on the run. Sammie takes to Thad immediately too (with his handsome face and silky voice like warm caramel), but she can’t let her guard down, can’t put this wonderful family in danger, can’t risk a relationship. As for Thad, this little family tugs at his heart and brings out the protective side in him. As much as she tries to hide it, it is clear that Sammie is afraid and has secrets. And this is the Moon family, after all, with their big hearts and ability to see into your soul and their determination to do whatever is necessary to help someone in need. Someone they’ve come to care for.
A comfortable routine is established, with Sammie and Chloe tucked safely away in the farmhouse. Sammie relaxes a little, Chloe steals everyone’s heart. Her guard isn’t all the way down but sometimes hope creeps in. And if Thad thinks he’s fooling anyone about the feelings he’s developed for Sammie, he’s wrong.
In the meantime, Atticus and Annie are settling in to married life, Caspian and Elliot are planning their wedding and house hunting, and Sammie has become the wedding planner for the ranch. Seems so tranquil, so perfect until a private investigator shows up looking for Sammie. Saying the family Sammie escaped from is evil is an understatement. Things heat up and they are truly in danger. The Moons circle the wagons and vow to keep Sammie and Chloe safe.
Haven Moon is another wonderful episode in the life of the wonderful Moom family and the Crescent Moon Ranch series. All our favorite characters are back. The circle of love has expanded yet again to include more people that will become treasured members of this loving family. It’s intense, it’s sweet, it’s moving. I love how author Tess Thompson overlaps one story’s timeline just a bit with the next, allowing us to keep up with the happenings of our already-favorites while focusing on another brother and his journey to happily ever after. And Stella and Jasper provide unending love and support as always.
Thanks to the author for making me a part of her review crew and providing an advance copy of Haven Moon. Two brothers left! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and cannot wait to see what’s in store for Soren and Rafferty. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
Wow! This book has it all! Small town romance, drama, mystery, hardships and triumphs. We met Sammie in a previous book but didn’t know her whole story. We knew she was running from something and had to find a safe place for her and her sweet 4 year old. This series had us fall in love with the Moon family quickly from book one and boy was I happy to see Thad was getting his story in book 4. What a story it was! We find out about Sammie’s story and just what she is running from and instantly you want it all to work out. She just has to be safe so she and Thad can live blissfully happy together with Sammie’s sweet little girl Chloe who Thad also fell in love with instantly. Author Tess Thompson digs deep into a story that I am sure hits home for more people than we wish it did. This book shows women to have faith and lean into help from people who you can just feel are good people who want to help you. Thad and the rest of the Moon family go to great lengths for those they love and they prove to Sammie and Chloe that the world can be an amazing place full of strength and love. I am so happy they get their happy ending and look forward to what’s next for Thad, Sammie, and Chloe. Looking forward to baby Moons coming soon too.
Another great story in the Crescent Moon series. Thad is the youngest of the Moon brothers. He is a sweet young man. Sammie is a woman on the run with her 3 year old daughter, Chloe. Sammie ends up staying at Crescent Mood Ranch for the Thanksgiving weekend as something different for her and Chloe to do. While she's at the check-in office, she meets Thad. Before the weekend is over, she is offered a job at the dude ranch's restaurant as a waitress. Sammie hides her identity from everyone as she's convinced she is the reason her husband is dead. Thad develops feelings for both Sammie & Chloe. He would love to start something with her but he can tell she's running from something and not sure she wants a relationship with him. I love that the story includes the whole family which were in the previous 3 books. The author knows how to build strong yet sweet characters in her books. I though Mama Moon was my favorite in this series but this one might be my favorite now. This is a sweet, clean, Christian, suspenseful story. I would love to say so much more about the story but I'm afraid of giving spoilers. I will say the book has a HEA ending. Plus we get to see Caspian and Elliott get married and we get to hear Finley's story. I can't wait to read the Rafferty and then Soren's books.
Sammie, Only wants what's best for her and her little girl. She's been through so much in Her marriage and her life. It's time for something new.
The author brings so much to this story. Wraps it all up in a nice little package. Parts of this story will pull at your heart strings. Other parts will make you smile. I had parts that made me laugh..
I would personally recommend this author to anyone. Because she has a wide variety of books. Historical and many others. I have introduced several people to her and everyone has just loved her. She's become a favorite..
My favorite character in this story is Chloe. The little girl.. She is such a sweet little thing. Talk about heart strings. She pulls at them. She's gone through so much in her short life. And as they say out of the mouths of babes.
Definitely, grab a copy. See what It's going on because you will love this story as much as I did.
The 4th installment in the Crescent Moon Ranch series by Tess Thompson is here, and it’s the best so far!
Haven Moon starts off a bit rough, with animal death, child abuse, and domestic violence in the very first chapter. I typically don’t continue reading books with animal abuse/death in them, but since this is by one of my favorite authors I did this time.
The first chapter definitely sets up the feeling of the rest of the book. It is a Tess Thompson book, so the main theme will obviously be romance with a HEA, but Haven Moon is so suspenseful. As the reader, I felt that I was on the run with the main character as she escapes her life in TN with her toddler and eventually makes her way to Montana. She does meet her match in Thad, and they hit it off right away. Can Sammie trust another man though, after her previous husband and his sketchy family? If she decides she can, would she be willing to put them at risk? Guess you’ll have to read it to find out!
Another good book in this series. I have already checked out the next one in the series.
Amazon synopsis: He’s a happy bachelor with a simple life on his family’s ranch. She’s a single mother fleeing an abusive husband. Will love become the haven she needs or will her past destroy any chance for happiness?
Sammie: I didn’t mean to kill my husband. All I wanted was to escape his abuse and start a new life with my daughter as far away from him as possible. But in one life-altering second I had to decide—run or stay and face his family and a possible murder conviction.
Thad: Sammie Scott has secrets.
Another great story of the Moon family. Thad is content in his job on the family ranch but watching his brothers meet and fall in love makes him wonder if that will happen to him. Sammie shows up for a week-long stay on the ranch. And Thad recognizes that she is special but also that there is something that she might be hiding. Sammie arrives with her daughter, running from an incident where she fears she killed her abusive husband. As she begins to get to know the Moons, she realizes these are people she could love. But can she trust them with what happened. When a private detective shows up, looking for her and saying he was hired by her husband, she realizes she must now tell someone her story. Thad’s family comes together to support Sammie and her daughter. Can she and Thad make a life for themselves? Can she really settle down in a place that is so peaceful and that she really likes.
Tess does it again. HAVEN Moon was done so well. It was written to be captivating, and it did just that. It was a story of danger and abuse while also being one of redemption.
Sammie is in an abusive relationship, and she knows she has to keep her daughter, Chloe, safe. After a very bad night, they take off and are in hiding. They end up at the Cresent Moon Ranch, where Sammie finds a job and a home for her and Chloe. She also finds the family she always wanted. When her past comes rearing its ugly head, Sammie has the Moons to help her fight back. She has her family.
Wow. This book was amazing. Sometimes, you come across a book that just grabs you. This one did that for me. It brought me to tears with the innocent Chloe. It made me see strength and resilience in Sammie. This book was perfect. It was both heartwrenching and heartwarming. It was written well and may be the best book yet.
I really loved this book. I actually lived parts of this story, along with many other facets of all of Thompson's books. That's why I love them all ... The stories are real, and relatable, and the characters come silly, loving and yes, flawed. There's also a strong sense of family, community, intrigue and romance, all done in a very contemporary way. Set in Montana, a sprawling ranch resort filled with terrific characters, many reoccurring and I so loved seeing them again. The Moons have a way of pulling together and setting things right...Thompson's writing is superb as always, she sets the scenery, fashion, and food so you feel like you're right there. Sammie's story touched me, the joy and the horror, and of course the tribute to Mittens touched me right in the softest spot of my heart. xxx
This is the fourth book in this incredible series, and this is Thad and Sammie’s story. Sammie has been mentally and physically abused by her husband, and she runs with her 3-year-old daughter, creating a new identity. Thad is content being a bachelor, working on his family’s ranch, which is until he meets Sammie, whom he knows is hiding secrets, but he will do whatever he must to keep her safe and protected. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, secrets, truths, friends / lovers, determination, challenges, engaging and realistic characters, heartbreak, revelations, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, haunting, and unpredictable, small town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Wow! This book was amazing. Thad and Sammie had a lot to work through but they were perfect for each other. Thad was smitten right away and even fell for her daughter, which had me swooning for him. Sammie wanted to be with him but she felt he deserved someone better.
Sammie left an abusive situation and was afraid that her ex’s family would come for her. Even though she felt safe and loved with Thad and his family she didn’t want to put them in danger so she tried to keep him as a friend. When she finally told him everything I fell for him a little harder.
This series keeps getting better and I can’t wait to see what happens next. There are triggers in this book and some parts were hard to read. Sammie is one of the strongest people, even if she doesn’t realize it. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
Haven Moon is such a sweet read. If you have been reading the Crescent Moon Ranch series then you know this is Thad's book. Thad is the youngest of the 5 Moon brothers and in charge of guest cottages on the ranch. He is a sweetheart who was a goner from the moment he met Sammie. Sammie is hiding from her past abusive relationship with her young daughter and looking to start over. You feel for everything Sammie and her daughter Chloe have gone through. I love how Thad and the rest of his family protect Sammie once her past comes out. There is such strength and love in this one. I just love how sweet and gentle Thad and Sammie's love is. I could not get enough of this one. Thad holds my heart as the favorite Moon man right now. I cannot wait for more to come. If you are looking for a sweet family clean romance then go click this one today.
I truly enjoyed this 4th book in the Crescent Moon Ranch series. The storyline was very good and we were back with the Moon family. This time it is Sammie and Thads story, which was filled with happenings and also how Sammie was dealing with her past. Things were not as they seemed to be and Sammie did everything to keep her daughter Chloe safe. It was a very nice read and the story unraveled with quite a bit of action and moments that could easily have gone badly. It is so nice to read a story that makes you want to read it faster and at the same time not too fast, not wanting it to end. I love the choice of the setting and the characters it gives the warm and very nice family feeling. it is also about second chances and being part of a family where, they look out for each other. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to read this story too. Thanks! Charlotte N
Haven Moon continues the Moon Family story with Thad and Sammie plus a precious little angel, Chloe. Sammie finds a haven in Montana with the Moon family. She must learn to trust again in order to have a fresh start. Chloe, Sammie’s little girl, is adorable and I am happy that she can find happiness and safety with the Moon’s. I’m also happy to get more of Caspian and Elliott’s story. The Moon family matriarch and patriarch, Stella and Jasper, continue to lend their support to new situations. I love reading Tess Thompson’s books because it’s like coming home to characters that I want to know better, and this series lets me enjoy a gorgeous and talented family in the beautiful setting of Montana.
I was hooked from the opening line of this story! We met Sammie and her daughter in Book Two, and knew immediately that she was running from something. Each book has revealed a little bit more of her personality and worth, and finally in this book we get her backstory. Like all the Moon men, Thad is honorable and protective. He is determined to do whatever is best for Sammie, and finally he gets his chance. The family rally around, bad guys become good guys, the truth is revealed, and Sammie is a hero. This is a sweet story, and very satisfying to read. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion. I recommend this book and the entire series. Each book is a standalone and HEA, but Book One, Mama Moon, really sets the stage for the rest of them.
Sammie knows that the only way to protect herself and her daughter from her husband however after a violent encounter that choice is taken from her hands. What began as a brief stay at Crescent Moon turns into a job and place where it feels like they belong especially when it comes to Thad.
Thad is drawn to both Sammie and her daughter Chloe, but he always knows that there is a lot she isn’t telling him. He is willing to be patient and understanding while he shows her, she can trust him with her heart and to protect her from her past.
This is a heartwarming story about love, family and new beginning. Sammie and Choe have endured so much to stay ahead of their family, and I enjoyed seeing them realize that they are no longer alone.
What an Amazing book! Sammie and Thad’s story grabbed me from the start! I couldn’t stop reading! When Sammie and her daughter Chloe came to the Moon family Dude Ranch, Sammie was escaping an abusive husband. She decided it was a good place to start over. She meets Thad after checking in. She starts working at the ranch’s restaurant and rents a room with the family. Thad is secretly in love with her, but knows she’s keeping a secret from her past. Can he help her get over her past and make a future with him? I loved Haven Moon! I had so much fun catching up with all the Moon Family! I can’t wait for Tess next book!
Another delightful story in this series about the Moon family and their Crescent Moon Ranch. Sammie & her sweet little daughter Chloe were introduced in a previous book, on the run from a past she hasn’t shared but finding a welcoming home in Montana anyway. Quiet, kind ranch manager Thad falls for them both, but patiently waits for Sammie to share what’s wrong and let him help. Of course everything will work out in the end, but the story of how they get there is wonderfully written by Tess Thompson. Thad may just be my favorite Moon so far, but I’m looking forward to the remaining family member’s stories as well.
Another winner in the series. Thad was a confirmed bachelor. Sammie was on the run from her husband’s family with her daughter Chloe. She was trying to escape an abusive relationship and secure safety for her daughter. Chance circumstances led Sammie to splurge and book a weekend at the ranch to spend Thanksgiving with Chloe. Sammie landed at the Moon ranch, where she was offered a job. Hoping her new name and identity would protect her, all she really wanted was the love of a supportive family. The Moon family is so giving and protective of those who are important to them. They are quick to embrace those near and dear to the family. Mama Moon has raised caring sons.
Thank you to the author for the ARC. This review is my honest opinion.
This story grabs you as soon as you start reading, and keeps you enmeshed in the story until the very end. Sammie fled an abusive marriage. Fleeing to save not just herself, but he daughter, Chloe, as well. Thad was interested in Sammie, but he also felt she was hiding something. He knew that no matter what he cared about her, and wanted her to know he would be there for her. Neither could have known how soon Thad would be showing Sammie that he was there for her. You'll love this story, you'll love these characters, and, you'll love the whole Moon clan.
I enjoyed reading this fourth story in the Crescent Moon Ranch series. Thad Moon is a kind, hardworking man who falls for Sammie, a waitress at his family ranch. Sammie’s fear of her past keeps her from moving forward with her life. All of the characters in this series are quite endearing, including Sammie’s three year old daughter, Chloe. I was rooting for Thad and Sammie’s and their happily ever after. The end of the book is so satisfying as the Moon family joins forces to fight for Sammie. The story mentions domestic abuse (physical and emotional), and has some violent scenes.
I received an advance reader copy. This is my honest opinion.
