“It’s Not An Learning How to Trade Options Is No Longer An Option, It’s A Necessity! by Jon and Pete Najarian is a book that sheds light on the world of options trading. Let me give you a brief Wall Street often encourages investors to buy shares of stock in the markets they control. However, the authors argue that using their own strategies for options trading can lead to better results. Options vs. The book emphasizes that with the right strategy, options returns can significantly outperform stock returns. Why Options?: After the 2020 pandemic caused economic turmoil, more Americans began to explore options trading as a way to have greater control over their money and secure better returns. Authors Jon and Pete Najarian, founders of the options trading platform eTrade (which was bought for over $700 million), share their combined 70 years of options trading experience. Who Can The book aims to empower readers from various backgrounds, including professionals like policemen, dentists, lawyers, and even former fast-food managers, to become successful options traders.
This was a really informative book and changed the way I think about things. I liked that they were very focused on risk, and how options allow you to manage them.
Most investment books have a strategy they recommend as the right way. This one presented a tool, and talked about how you could use it in your strategy. At the same time, they were very sure of their belief that options are better than stocks because they allow you to control your risk. I am not sure I agree with all of their arguments in all cases, but I guess if they had hedged there the book would not have been as clear.
They talked about risk, and how options allow you to control it. The thing that needs to be shouted loudly to anyone who wants to read this book, or really anyone that wants to trade options: If you buy an option and your stock does not move your way, you could lose all the money you invested; if you sell an option and it moves against you, you could lose more money than you can imagine.
And if you are someone who is thinking about trading options and haven't thought about how they let you control risk, read my last sentence, then read this book, and then read my last sentence again for good measure.
A decent, well-written, well-organized "advanced beginner" introduction to options trading. I say "advanced" because th authors discuss some strategies that are more sophisticated than most beginners can handle (straddles, strangles, rolling up).
I've traded options for some 25 years, so I didn't learn much more than I already knew. I think the main purpose of the book is to get the reader to sign up for the Najarian's paid services. Nothing wrong with that, but I already pay enough for investment advice from other sources. Also, I don't trade options enough to make it worth my time or money to try their service.
The book was not a good beginners course to options. Too many strategies and variations. I would have preferred tables on available options and how to read them and understand them. This book jumped from 1 strategy to another. The graphs were helpful and the book covered probably every option strategy possible, but too quickly! The book is a useful tool introducing alternate investment schemes, but I’m not closer to knowing how to buy a call and know what I’m doing.
