read-ish. I was looking for something to help me take a good, simple picture or crop my Europe vacation pics into snapshots that made sense. I wanted law of thirds, lighting and that kind of fundamental info. This was beyond me. Confession: I often take photos with my iphone. The pictures were stunning. There were tons of diagrams that referred to pictures that felt too many pages away, and I flipped back and forth a lot. Mante has refined photography to a precise science and shares all here. I think an experienced photographer would appreciate.
Great explanations of why we are inherently drawn to some compositions and not others. Though nominally about photography, much of the material is true of other graphic arts.
This is the most complete book on photographic composition that you will find. It is a boring book to read throughout, but excellent to use as a dictionary of composition. A lot of photos to illustrate the points in the book. It is not a bginner's book.
