Dalton Family #1

My Enemy, My Obsession

Rate this book
I have plenty of reasons to dislike the hard-edged, ridiculously good-looking, arrogant Ethan Dalton, who did my father wrong, and I鈥檇 do anything for the chance to tell the billionaire that and more to his face. So when I鈥檓 selected to attend Moore's Department Stores annual conference in Hawaii, with an invitation to submit my designs for their new fall line, the last person I expect to come toe-to-toe with is Ethan himself. I had no idea he was on the board, and despite the fact that he won鈥檛 know who I am, I鈥檓 in avoidance mode, and failing. I end up sitting several feet away from him, spellbound by how ridiculously hot he is, for an arrogant jerk, when he feels my stare, and I end up locked in his. I鈥檓 officially busted, the amusement in his eyes, is somehow charming, rather than infuriating, but when I have the chance to meet him, I run for the hills.

But not for long.

The next thing I know, he鈥檚 standing in front of me, in another chance encounter that becomes oh so intimate, and when he thinks my name is well, not my name, I don't correct him. Because once he knows who I am, we鈥檙e at war. And what happens that night is anything but war. It鈥檚 the most intense, incredible night of my life, but come morning, I do the only thing I can do. I sneak out before he figures out who I am. Besides, I鈥檓 saving myself an awkward goodbye.

Only running from the gorgeous, intense billionaire never seems to work, and I fail miserably again.

It鈥檚 not long before our paths and my future collide, and my little bedtime lie is not so little anymore and threatens all that I love. And the only way to save myself, is to get down on my hands and knees and beg a man my father once called the devil himself.

Sorry, but I have to start with the fact this is a weird ARC eBook setup! The text background is dark gray with light gray text which was so hard on my eyes. My default font comes out as italics on my Kindle so I had to change the font to try and find one that might work. It made it tough for me to power-read through this one, making me sad.
~~~
Okay, now on to the review -
The book itself was a great read. I really loved the male main character (MMC). He was sweet and kind most of the time, and I loved how they interacted. Let me tell you, this book is steamy throughout most of the story.
The female main character was great as well, until she did the thing I hate the most in the book, she lied and ran. Ugh. I get it. It helped the story flow and developed the fire, passion, and a bit of angst. Jones is great at building that fire and passion, trust me. I have devoured so many of her books.
My Enemy, My Obsession is a great story until the author decided to throw in the ridiculous ending she went with on a cliffhanger, of course.
Regardless, my favorite part of this story is Ethan. He is actually awesome and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
This book is not what it seems, and unfortunately not in a good way.
It's title and cover imply some sort of dark romance with possible kinks. There is nothing dark about it, and the spice is mild at best.
So far this is just an average romance novel with a billionaire.. They're not even enemies for more than 2 seconds, and the interest he shows in her seems more like an intense crush than an all consuming obsession..
Really it felt like being let down over and over again.
Their first night is inexpertly drawn out so far, that's it's boring. The next couple of spicy scenes then feel rushed, and the writing really just didn't elicit any feelings from me.
The first time he says "I'm going to fuck you in every possible way you let me fuck you" was cringey but kinda hot, the 18th time he says it made me want to put the book down. Only for them to only have sex once that night.
While I truly understand anxiety, I don't understand her actions. Is there a term for repetitive whiplash? Because that's what I got.
The book as a whole isn't even a story, it's too long to be a novella and too short, especially with all the repetitiveness, to have a fully fledged story. While I do like the basis of the plot, this is really just the first arc of their romance, and could have easily been reduced to be a short and sweet novella. It needs a lot more tIme and work to be a proper romance novel.
Thank-you to Victory Editing for allowing me to read this ARC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
HOLYFRIGGINMOLY the intensity of Ethan & Sofia is mouthwatering. From their first meeting, as a reader they will make you drawn to them!
My Enemy, My Obsession is a story that intrigues and engages from the very first page and let me tell you I devoured this book in a day!
This is a new to me author but I thoroughly enjoyed the pace and journey of this book and I'm off to explore her other books too!
Now back to Ethan & Sofia...
The attraction is strong, the chemistry is mouth watering, and these two just can't keep their friggin hands off each other. But there lies mystery, secrets and Ethan has plenty more secrets and enemies including his own brother and dad and the twists and unknown leave Sofia unsure she can truly trust.
Now I love a cliffy and I went into this book with little information and BOOOM with a cliffhanger ending, fire, passion and a bit of angst, I was running for book two which isn't out yet!
My Enemy, My Obsession is the first book in the Dalton Family Trilogy and as soon as I finished this I needed the next book IMMEDIATELY because it ends on a cliffhanger. I was pulled into the book so fast and was seriously obsessed - I was not ready to be done with Ethan and Sophia yet and honestly Lisa? How dare you make us wait but alas I supposed we shall patiently wait for the next book.
Tropes: Enemies to lovers, billionaire romance
Ethan Dalton was deliciously written and I absolutely loved his character and his dirty mouth. Ethan is a businessman / billlonaire, who according to everyone is ruthless and arrogant. Sophia is a clothing designer who is trying her best to get her clothing line noticed and is working so hard to make her dreams a reality. Sophia knows all to well how hard starting and keeping a business afloat really is because her dad started his own business and was really struggling with things financially. All she really knew of Ethan Dalton was that he was the jerk that denied her dad financial help for his business. Sophia hated him for turning her dad down鈥hat is until their path crossed.
Sophia interviewed with Moore鈥檚 Department store in an attempt to follow her dreams and she did so well they sent her to Hawaii to their annual conference but to her luck who does she bump into other than Ethan Dalton himself? Sophia tried her best to cling to that hate she had towards him but it took all but a few hours to disappear. The hate quickly turned into an obsession they couldn鈥檛 deny for long. I adored these characters and I cannot wait to read more of their story.
If this was your first book by Lisa, and you want to delve into more of her books I highly recommend her Inside Out Series, you will not be disappointed.
Thank you to Lisa for an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I needed my dose of this author. She writes with conviction and style. This new novel is steeped in seduction. Really, take me to Hawaii and lavish me with this debonair millionaire any time!
I liked the start of this enemies-to-lovers romance because it shows a woman in pursuit of her dreams in fashion design, also a devoted daughter to her father. A link between him and a powerful man comes to the forefront when she travels to Hawaii for work and faces the man in the flesh. All hard, sensual flesh. I loved their encounter, their conversation, their ensuing passion. It's all loaded with intense feelings and mystery.
It's an ode to sensuality.
This whirlwind romance is filled with fiery passion and an intense connection between the characters. It verges on blinding obsession. This proves to be true as their relationship develops against all odds. There's a sharp side to Ethan that might destroy them both or perhaps Sofia will be the catalyst to their happiness.
I loved the promise of more between them despite some misunderstandings, the sudden blocks that start to paint a devious presence in their paradise, and everything surrounding the business proposal. Very enticing on all sides. I'm eager to find out what happens next.
I鈥檓 not normally too harsh on books (I blame it on being a hardcore Libra) but I just did not like this one. The author reached out to me and once I read the synopsis, I was all in but I quickly realized that I had been fooled.
First of all, WHY did there need to be 15 chapters in the beginning before they got to the spicy part of the night? Every part of this book was just so drawn out.
The main characters were just annoying to me and I could not connect to them at all. I鈥檓 just going to go ahead and end my criticism there because I hate being so mean to an author. I鈥檓 so happy that so many people enjoyed this one but it just wasn鈥檛 for me.
鈥淢y Enemy, My Obsession鈥 had moments that sparkled, but overall, it left me feeling lukewarm. The book promised an enticing 鈥渆nemies to lovers鈥 journey with a touch of obsession, but ultimately, it fell short of delivering the intense, dark romance hinted at by its title and cover.
Starting with the positives, I found Ethan to be the most endearing part of the story. His kindness and genuine effort to win Sofia over were sweet, and he was a character I wanted to root for. There were a few steamy moments that showcased the author鈥檚 strength in writing passion, and I appreciated the way the romantic tension built up initially.
However, the book had several shortcomings that kept me from fully enjoying it. The chemistry between Sofia and Ethan felt forced at times, and their 鈥渆nemy鈥 dynamic seemed almost non-existent. Sofia鈥檚 constant hesitation, coupled with her unfounded distrust of Ethan, made her character difficult to connect with. The story was repetitive, often cycling through Sofia鈥檚 internal conflict about whether to pursue her one-night stand with Ethan. This not only slowed the pacing but also made the narrative feel stagnant. I found myself having to force myself to continue reading, and this was very close to being a DNF (did not finish).
The much-anticipated tension between enemies felt more like an awkward misunderstanding, and the romance lacked the intensity that the title suggested. The writing style also contributed to a disjointed experience鈥攕ome intimate scenes were overly prolonged while others were rushed, failing to strike the right balance in storytelling.
To top it off, the book ends on a cliffhanger, which was frustrating rather than exciting. While I appreciate a good hook for the next book in a series, the ending felt abrupt, and I was left without a sense of closure for the characters.
Overall, 鈥淢y Enemy, My Obsession鈥 had potential, but it didn鈥檛 fully realize its premise. While there were moments I enjoyed鈥攅specially Ethan鈥檚 character鈥攖he pacing issues, the forced chemistry, and the lack of true 鈥渆nemies to lovers鈥 tension made it an average read for me. I might continue the series out of curiosity, but it isn鈥檛 a priority.
I think I need more books from Lisa Renee Jones. I like the start of this enemies-to-lovers romance. This new novel is steeped in seduction. The author writes with such conviction and style. This is the first book I have read and I look forward to the next part. The cover of the novel reveals that there will be a trilogy, which sounds very interesting. Can't wait!
We have Ethan Dalton, a wealthy, attractive, strong-willed, highly successful businessman who simply doesn't wear a suit, but owns it. And we have Sofia Cameron (my dear girl) a talented woman who hopes to become a rising star in the fashion world, but who urgently needs an investor. The meeting, for the first time, of the two, is charged with sensuality and attraction, neither of which will happen when their worlds collide. For me, the beginning of the book went quite slowly, but from chapter 10 all the feelings and emotions were maximum.
I liked both main characters. I consider them strong both in their relationship as a couple, but also professionally. They are very determined to get everything they want. Sofia is determined to develop her own fashion line and help her father, and Ethan is determined to do everything he can to keep Sofia with him. There were moments in the book when I wanted to shout 鈥淎sk him once, woman!鈥, but he prefers to run away, although he is aware of the electrifying attraction between them.
I want to know how the story of the two of them ends, Sofia and Ethan, and for this I need the next book that the author I hope will release soon. I liked this book because I had lies, betrayal, a power struggle and a rollercoaster of emotions. A story that makes you want more. A story strewn with spicy, full of suspense and last but not least an intense love story.
If you like spicy, intense and suspenseful romance, then My Enemy, My Obsession by Lisa Renee Jones is right for you. I recommend it with love!
1 star.
At first, it was okay, until it was not. This book was fine. Is it recommendable? That leaves much to be desired.
The synopsis leads you to believe that there will be many pushes and pulls between the characters, and the angst of a hate-to-love relationship should keep you coming back. Oh boy, I really wished it was such. Unfortunately, it falls flat and lacks the chemistry needed to make it truly engaging. Where were the enemies to lovers?
I noticed the entirety of the book basically tells you the plot. It hardly shows through characters and actions. There was nothing compelling me to continue... Other than the rage of how bad the entire story was. 98% smut, and the remaining 2% of the plot felt empty.
Thank you to the team from NetGalley for providing me with an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily!
When Sofia runs into a gorgeous man, it's too bad he mistakes her for someone else. No matter, they can have a ons with no repercussions. Except perhaps not, because when she goes to present her designs, guess who's on the committee...yep, her gorgeous ons. Too bad she knows who he is (the man who did her father wrong), but he doesn't know who she is...until now that is. Now they're in really close proximity and lines are quickly blurring. She's finding he's not the cold blooded man she had thought. Things have a chance of becoming something special, if Sofia can let herself trust him.
Ethan despises liars, and Sofia lied to him in their first meeting. So why should he trust her now? But her lies don't seem to matter to his attraction. He wants her like he's never wanted anyone else. This playboy always gets what he wants, but his past is coming back to haunt him and he may yet lose Sofia because of it.
Ethan is by far the best part of this story. Though he's supposed to be a ruthless playboy, he's actually sweet and so kind that it's a wonder he ever got the reputation he has. He and Sofia's chemistry is absolute fire and all was going along well between these two "enemies," until the dreaded cliffhanger when Sofia did something that I despise - she ran. Now I'm going to have to wait to find out how they manage to get back on the same page.
Whenever I鈥檓 in the mood for a billionaire romance featuring an alpha male character, I turn to Lisa Renee Jones. Her newest release, My Enemy, My Obsession, features exactly those things, plus more, but fair warning, this book does leave you with a cliffhanger. I know I鈥檒l be counting down the days until the second book.
I enjoyed the first installment in the Dalton Family trilogy. It features a fast-paced, character-driven storyline told primarily from the heroine鈥檚 point of view, with only one chapter showcasing the hero鈥檚 perspective. I immediately liked Ethan Dalton for his honesty and upfront nature with Sophia, particularly regarding her future and what he believes is best for her.
I also appreciated his straightforwardness about their initial one-night stand, which evolves into something more when they reconnect in New York. Ethan admits right away that he typically isn鈥檛 obsessed with women, hinting at his past hurts, which Lisa Renee Jones touches on briefly in this book.
Sophia drove me a bit crazy at times, particularly when she lied to Ethan when they first met. She should have just been honest with him. Furthermore, she often jumps to conclusions without discussing things with Ethan, which becomes a recurring issue. She has trust issues, largely stemming from her father鈥檚 warnings about Ethan and her own insecurities. I hope to like her character a little bit more in the next book.
There was some repetition in the storyline, but I was so invested in the relationship between Sophia and Ethan that I could overlook it.
I do wish the ending hadn鈥檛 felt rushed, but I understand that Lisa Renee Jones is setting the stage for the next book and wants to leave us hanging with that intense cliffhanger.
I鈥檓 hoping I don鈥檛 have to wait too long for the second book because I need to know what happens next. Overall, I give this book 3.5 stars and look forward to reading more in this trilogy.
Single/Dual POV: Single POV in First Person (mainly FMC character), and one chapter has the MMC鈥檚 POV, but it鈥檚 short.
Standalone or Part of Series: It鈥檚 the first book in the Dalton Family Trilogy and needs to be read in order.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would recommend this book if you enjoy Billionaire Romances with an Alpha Hero.
What to Expect:
鉁揃illionaire Romance
鉁揈nemies to Lovers
鉁揙ne Night Stand
鉁揂lpha MMC
Lisa Renee Jones' name is a guarantee for romantic stories full of excitement and passion, and her latest series, "The Dalton Family", offers exactly that. The series opening book, "My Enemy, My Obsession", grips the reader from the first page and transports them into an emotional world where secrets, danger and unstoppable desire shape the fate of the protagonists.
At the heart of the story is the relationship between Sofia Cameron and Ethan Dalton, which begins with a lie, or more accurately, the withholding of the truth. Sofia is a strong, ambitious woman who has a loving relationship with her father 鈥 a storyline that is slightly unusual in Lisa Renee Jones' novels, as family relationships are often a source of conflict in her books. The loss of her mother has strengthened the bond between Sofia and her father, and this emotional depth makes her character appear even more genuine and real.
Ethan Dalton fits every aspect of Lisa Renee Jones' iconic male protagonist: filthy rich, ridiculously handsome and shamelessly confident. At first glance, he appears to be your typical cold-blooded businessman, but as you get to know him, it becomes clear that behind the perfect persona lies a much more complex character. Ethan is full of secrets, his enemies won't let him rest, and the shadows of his past continue to haunt him.
The relationship between Sofia and Ethan is passionate and intense, the attraction between them is undeniable, yet full of uncertainty and mystery. Lisa Renee Jones masterfully delivers the tension and suspense, leaving the reader with new questions on every page. The story is dynamic and the balance of the emotions and the plot is perfect 鈥 the novel never lets your attention waver.
The book ends with a closing that is very typical of the author 鈥 leaving many unanswered questions and making the reader want to reach for the next part immediately. The twisting plot, the masterfully crafted characters and the emotionally charged scenes combine to create a story that is impossible to put down and guaranteed to captivate fans.
Overall, "My Enemy, My Obsession" is a worthy start to the "Dalton Family" series. Romance, suspense, and mystery are blended in perfect proportions, while the chemistry between the characters glows off the page. If you enjoyed Lisa Renee Jones's previous books, this story is not to be missed, but be prepared to be on pins and needles waiting for the next book.
鉁 One Night Stand
鉁 Hidden Identity
鉁 Billionaire Heir/ Fashion Designer
鉁 Both Non-Virgins
鉁 Dual POV - First Person
Thoughts:
- I loved the cover.
- Sofia: I did not like her. It started out well. I liked the supportiveness between her and her father. Her overthinking tendency was annoying. It went back and forth on the same thing again and again aka her wanting the ONS vs. not wanting it. If you were that nervous and unsure, take the damn hint and go to your room. No one was holding a gun on your head and making you have the ONS with Ethan. Ugh. It was so not appealing. I did not like the fact that she kept assuming he was a bad person just cuz He was nothing but nice to her by the way since he met her.
"He just wants to fuck me, and I certainly don't want more with him. He's an asshole. You fuck assholes. You don't let them get in your head or your life."
She was still hesitant to have the damn ONS still. Imagine my surprise when I found out she was not a virgin trying to have an ONS.
- Ethan: He was understanding and trying way too hard to make her not change her mind. Should've made her go back at the first sign of her indecision. Was it so hard to get a proper consented woman to be with?
- The chemistry and tropes: The connection and chemistry felt forced between the main couple. Their interaction didn't grasp my interest in them either. I think I had never been this turned off in my life. The awkwardness. Where were the 'enemies to lovers' we were promised to get? The obsessive man? Where was he? Because whatever we got was not what the author promised. The couple were not enemies. At all. Sofia was just forcing herself to believe they were for the sake of whatever.
-
- Man. I'm done. They still haven't slept with each other at this point. I already skimmed a lot. I can't believe it was the same author who wrote 'Adrian's Trilogy'. Sigh.
My Enemy, My Obsession by Lisa Renee Jones is a tantalizing start to the Dalton Family series, blending romance, suspense, and a touch of drama that keeps readers engaged from the first page. The story centers around Sofia, a passionate fashion designer, and Ethan Dalton, a billionaire with a complicated past and a reputation as a ruthless playboy. Their initial encounters are charged with tension and animosity, setting the stage for a fiery enemies-to-lovers romance.
What I loved most about this book is the chemistry between Sofia and Ethan. Their interactions are electric, filled with witty banter and undeniable attraction that quickly escalates into something more intense. Jones excels at creating steamy scenes that are both provocative and emotionally charged, making it easy to root for their relationship despite the obstacles they face.
Sofia is a strong character who is determined to carve her own path in the fashion world while dealing with her father's expectations and the shadow of her family's legacy. However, her decision to lie to Ethan during their first meeting adds an element of frustration to her character. While I understand that this conflict drives the plot forward and heightens the tension between them, I found myself wishing she would have been more honest from the start.
Ethan is a compelling hero鈥攖hough he has a reputation as a playboy, his sweet and kind nature shines through in his interactions with Sofia. His internal struggles regarding trust and vulnerability make him relatable, adding depth to his character. The supporting cast also adds layers to the story, particularly as family dynamics come into play.
The pacing of the book is generally well-executed, though I felt that the ending was somewhat rushed. The cliffhanger left me eager for more but also slightly unsatisfied as it felt abrupt after such a build-up. Nevertheless, it effectively sets the stage for future installments in the series.
Overall, My Enemy, My Obsession is an engaging read filled with passion, suspense, and emotional complexity. With its well-developed characters and gripping storyline, I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. This book is perfect for fans of steamy romance who enjoy a blend of drama and intrigue. Lisa Renee Jones has crafted an enticing tale that leaves readers wanting more!
MY ENEMY, MY OBSESSION is the first instalment in Lisa Renee Jones鈥 contemporary, adult DALTON FAMILY erotic, romance series. This is thirty six year old investor Ethan Dalton, and twenty-nine year old, fashion designer Sofia Cameron鈥檚 story line.
Told from first person perspective (Sofia) with a chapter from Ethan MY ENEMY, MY OBSESSION follows the quick building but tempestuous relationship between investor Ethan Dalton, and fashion designer Sofia Cameron. Sofia Cameron has been invited to present her designs at a conference in Hawaii but never expected to meet investor Ethan Dalton, the man whom Sofia鈥檚 father warns to stay clear but a one night stand followed by Sofia ghosting our hero is about to become awkward when Ethan is part of the selection committee. An offer from the board including a six week mentorship finds Sofia considering a move with Ethan to Paris but all is not well in Ethan鈥檚 life, the past refuses to let go, and the present is determined to control his life.
The world building follows the building but acrimonious relationship between our story line couple but a relationship in which Ethan struggles to trust, and Sofia believes is predicated upon pity . A lie of omission threatens any chance for Sofia to present her designs, and Ethan battles between head and heart as it pertains to our story line heroine. The back and forth, up and down, begins to fracture their growing relationship.The numerous $ex scenes are provocative and erotic .
We are briefly introduced to Sofia鈥檚 father Robert Cameron, and Ethan鈥檚 half-brother Grant, and his wife Anna.
MY ENEMY, MY OBSESSION is a story of secrets and lies, power and control, betrayal and obsession, family and relationships, understanding and trust. The fast paced character driven premise is thought provoking and interesting; the romance is seductive and impassioned; the characters are desperate and dynamic. MY ENEMY, MY OBSESSION ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
鈥淢y Enemy, My Obsession鈥 is the first instalment in the 鈥淒alton Family Trilogy.鈥 From the moment Ethan and Sofia鈥檚 eyes met across a crowded bar in Hawaii, the attraction was instantaneous. Ethan Dalton is a wealthy, handsome, successful businessman. Sofia Cameron is a up and coming designer, wanting to break into the highly competitive fashion industry, buts needs someone to back her.
Sofia doe-eyed sweetness intrigues and challenges Ethan at the same time, now he is going to challenge her. After a night of 鈥渘o regrets鈥 and toe curling passion that leaves her breathless, Zoey (aka Sofia). In the morning she sneaks out, they will never see each other again, or so she thinks 鈥
鈥淓than Dalton is sex in a suit, and I don鈥檛 remember any single man in my lifetime that has ever affected me quite like this one. I鈥檓 aware of how he looks, how he moves, with both grace and arrogance, and the way the sea breeze mixes with his cologne and creates something more alluring than any scent should be.鈥
The story is full of passion, intrigue, power, control, twists and turns around every corner - most of all love 鈾ワ笍 There is never a dull moment - you will be hooked! The book goes through moments of the thoughts or possibilities that it could happen to, to extreme violence to the most beautiful tender moments! I鈥檓 very happily hooked! I did not want it to end! From page to page, chapter to chapter, I could not put it down - you will metaphorically be on the edge of your chair! Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 馃槉 To be noted, this book does end on cliffhanger!
饾悓饾惒 饾悇饾惂饾悶饾惁饾惒, 饾悓饾惒 饾悗饾悰饾惉饾悶饾惉饾惉饾悽饾惃饾惂 is the first book in the Dalton Family Trilogy by Lisa Renee Jones, featuring a spicy enemies to lovers, opposites attract romance for Ethan and Sofia. She has big fashion dreams and a father who needs her support, but when she takes a leap to pursue her business goals, she finds herself face-to-face with a man she should despise. Is he the devil or the key to more pleasure than she ever imagined possible? She allowed herself to have one fiery night with Ethan not expecting to see him again, but he keeps reappearing, gaining more importance in her life. Will she stay, or will she run?
I enjoyed the instant fiery chemistry and attraction, as well as the intriguing undertones of secrets percolating in the background, but Ethan definitely didn鈥檛 give off an enemy vibe for Sofia, in my opinion. I鈥檓 sure more will unfold in the other books on the backstory with her father or maybe the jerks in his family, but I really liked Ethan. Sofia definitely brought out a different side of him. Sofia frustrated me with her reactionary decisions and lack of communication, but I was rooting for her and Ethan, as well as Sofia on her business plans. There鈥檚 definitely some drama on the horizon though鈥 I abhor cliffhangers, but I鈥檓 super invested, and I look forward to reading the other books soon!
This is the first book in the Dalton Family Trilogy. I was drawn in by the depths of these characters, their enticingly unexpected connection as well as the fast paced storyline. I couldn鈥檛 put this down and read it in one sitting! Entranced! Loving every passionate and intense moment!
Sofia Cameron is an up and coming fashion designer, wanting to get her clothing brand 鈥淶oey鈥 into Moore鈥檚 the largest department store in the country. After seeing some of her designs, she is invited to a fashion show in Hawaii all expenses paid. They want her to come up with designs for next season after seeing their line for this year. But then she sees him, Ethan Dalton the man who her father was upset with and had nothing nice to say about, the man who backed out of a major deal with her father. Her enemy!
Ethan Dalton is a playboy, billionaire, business mogul that is on the board of Moore鈥檚 Department stores. He is in Hawaii to meet and scout out the designers that have been invited to the fashion show.
After Ethan approaches Sofia she quickly leaves him with another, only to come face to face with him much later in a private area of the resort. When he calls her Zoey she doesn鈥檛 correct him she is so seduced by the man in the moment. Their connection is electric! It鈥檚 enticing! It鈥檚 sexy! The burn between them is wicked, and every part of them is on fire. But this is all about one night! It can鈥檛 be anything more. Or can it? You will want to read to get all the scrumptious details! This also ends with a cliffhanger! I cant wait to get book two in this series into my hands! Loved it!
I like strong female characters that are equally good in their field as the billionaire they fall for. In this book Sofia is an up and coming fashion designer. She's been invited to a fashion show in Hawaii where she can pitch her ideas for a new line. She has an instant attraction to Ethan, whose on the board but also is her enemy because he refused to help save her dad's company. When they meet and he assumes her name is Zoey because that's the name of her clothing line, she doesn't correct him. She's not planning to see him again so what's the harm? Unfortunately fate has other plans and she will see him sooner than she thinks. Ethan has a reputation for being brutal in business and hates to be lied to. He hints at a dark past and doesn't mix business with pleasure so when he finds out she lied about her name she may never get the chance for either. This is a relatively short book that hints at more to come but ends with a cliffhanger. This is the first book in the series that will complete their story.
My Enemy, My Obsession is a story that intrigues and engages from the very first page.
As Sofia heads to Hawaii for a shot at the opportunity of a lifetime and where she meets intense, intriguing and gorgeous Ethan Dalton.
Whom she shares an unforgettable night with.
However, Ethan mistakenly believes Sofia is called Zoey and that's not the only secret between the pair.
So when they come face to face again in New York, it's fair to say Ethan is less than happy to see her and Sofia isn't exactly full of joy either. As her father has had plenty to say about Ethan Dalton too.
Which makes Sofia's head spin. Especially with the way Ethan is now behaving towards her.
Only the attraction is strong, and the pair can't keep away from each other. But Ethan has plenty more secrets and enemies including his own brother and dad and by the end Sofia isn't sure she can truly trust what he says.
And with a cliffhanger ending, fire, passion and a bit of angst. This was an enjoyable story. That easily kept me reading and I'm looking forward to what comes next.
My thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of My Enemy, My Obsession. 鈽猴笍
Sofia Cameron has a clothing line. She named it after her mother Zoey, who died when a drunk driver hit her. She is trying to pitch it to Moore鈥檚 Department Stores, the biggest department store in the country. Her father started his own brewery after his wife died. It is struggling so he tried to make a deal with Ethan Dalton to get additional funding. Ethan turned him down and Sofia thinks of him as the enemy.
Moore鈥檚 invites Sofia to come to Hawaii to observe one of their shows and hopefully spark some inspiration. Turns out that Ethan Dalton is there as well because he is one of the investors in Moore鈥檚. He invites himself to sit down at Sofia鈥檚 table at a restaurant. He thinks her name is Zoey after her designs and she does not correct him. Ethan is a straight shooter in business which puts some people off.
Sofia and Ethan have quite the push and pull between them throughout the story. He is a successful businessman and she wants to be a successful designer. It was interesting watching them navigate their professionalism with their attraction to each other.
I recall the first time I delved into the works of Lisa Renee Jones, particularly the Dirty Rich series鈥攊t was captivating. Her insight into the lives of the affluent and influential is profound. She crafts characters so vividly that they transcend the pages, seeming more like real individuals than figments of her imagination. Ethan and Sophia's narrative particularly resonated with me. Their initial encounter in Hawaii, intended as a fleeting connection, ended up altering their lives profoundly. Sophia's integrity shines through, especially in her internal struggle over giving Ethan her mother's name upon their first meeting and the difficulty she faced in revealing the truth later. I'm rooting for them to succeed as a couple, despite the obstacles thrown their way by those who oppose their union. Ethan's genuine care for Sophia is evident, and he's eager to explore the potential of their relationship, but Sophia's insecurities pose a challenge and the toxic relationship with his father and half-brother. The anticipation of whether she will venture to Paris and launch the Zoey line, in honor of her mother, is immense. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the next book.
Once I started the book I couldn鈥檛 stop.
I absolutely loved Ethan!
He鈥檚 a savvy businessman. Incredibly smart, gives business advice generously and freely.
He has integrity and morals and the cherry on top of this delicious cake is he鈥檚 incredibly sexy.
That cover says it all!
I liked Sofia. She comes from a normal household with great hard working parents.
She is also hard working, trying hard to make her dreams as a clothes designer come to fruition.
I loved her selflessness when it came to her dad. She is willing to put everything on hold for him.
The minute Ethan and Sofia lay eyes on each other sparks fly.
The lust and passion between them just sizzles off the pages. It鈥檚 sexy, hot and intense.
I so appreciated Ethan always giving Sofia the benefit of the doubt.
Even when she did him wrong.
And I hated that she didn鈥檛 do the same for him.
She always seemed to question everything about him and his actions.
When he did nothing wrong to provoke such doubts.
I think it had to do with her own insecurities and lack of self confidence.
That cliffhanger made me sad for Ethan.
Looking forward to reading the next installment of Sofia and Ethan鈥檚 continuing story.
One of Lisa Renee Jones' fortes is her ability to create undeniably strong and likeable yet oh so human characters. And the way she has of penning a seduction scene? Grab a fan, ladies because you're going to need it more than once. Phew! Ethan Dalton and Sofia Cameron seemed fated to meet. He's the dashing, strong willed, highly successful businessman who just doesn't wear a suit, he owns it. She's hoping to becime a rising star in the fashion world and is looking for a break. She's talented and inspired. Meeting Ethan seems serendipitous. He could hold sway over her budding career. She ends up judging him because of her father's opinion which doesn't quite seem fair and yet she hates him almost from the moment he introduces himself. That doesn't stop her from fantasizing about ot wanting him. The pull between them is white hot and electric. Despite her feelings and reservations she gives into temptation because dares her to reach out and grab what she wants. But can she have him and a career without compromising one or both?
