I’ve spent years as the Warriors goalie, holding the line under pressure. But off the ice, my life’s a disaster. After dating too many men who only saw me as an NHL trophy, I’ve sworn off romance—until Brody skates into my life. He’s newly traded to the team, ten years younger, and carrying the weight of the world.
I should keep my distance, but every stolen glance, every unguarded smile pulls me in. A playful bet pushes me to take a chance with Brody, though I’m risking more than my heart.
Brody
Being traded to Buffalo was supposed to be my fresh start, an escape after my old team turned on me. Now, I have one goal: keep my head down so I can play hockey.
Enter Gabe: confident, relentless, and far too good at breaking through my walls. I can’t let myself want him. But when he’s around, I forget every reason I should walk away.
One spark turns into something neither of us can ignore. But will falling for each other be the ultimate win—or the one loss we can’t afford?
Net Bet is the second standalone in the fantastic Buffalo Warriors Hockey series. It features a bisexual defenseman with a traumatic past, a lonely goalie looking for love, and found family in the form of a nosy yet supportive hockey team. Packed with high heat, dirty talk, first times, forced proximity, angst, an age gap, and a hard-earned HEA, this story delivers all the feels.
Brody Tanner will start fresh in a new town, a new house, a new team, and forget all the hurt he left behind. Especially his attraction to men. Never again!
He didn’t expect to run into the most beautiful guy on earth, who’s his teammate, and now also his neighbor.
Gabe is the goalie of the Warriors. He feels lonely, used, and unlovable at thirty-two. He’s swearing of men. He has had enough of dating. Life has other plans for him, meeting Brody walking his dog, he felt an instant attraction to the ten-years younger guy.
Both are, from a distance, obsessed with the other. It changed when Brody saw a pic of Gabe with everyone month a different blond at his arm Okay, he’s out, and the team has no problems with it, but no way Brody will enter this line of flings.
Gabe is determined to explore the things that are going on between them. This could be the one. Sweet Gabe, it isn’t that simple.
It’s a lovely story, with various scenes, sexiness, banters, sports and team matters, and a dose of hurt, of course, the romance between both guys was central. I loved the team spirit, they were all there for them!
I don’t think I’m the target audience for these authors. The story itself was fine (although the drama with the third act break up was a bit over the top for my taste), but the writing is just not my thing. It felt so unreal, they explain way too much. People don’t talk like that, especially not two guys. So let’s say it’s not the book, it’s me. And my allergy to useless endless descriptions of feelings (when they could have just written the feelings themselves by showing them). Such a shame.
“You're gorgeous, Brody. You make me imagine all kinds of things.
Gabe Donovan is tired of dating casually, he just wants someone to love him for who he is and not the celebrity he is. Gabe is the goalie for the Buffalo Warriors and is very well known in the NHL.
Brody Tanner is the new D-man for the Warriors. He was pushed out by his last team, when they became hostile towards him, because he was having a secret relationship with the centre, which he denied and turned it all onto Brody when the truth came out. Brody moves in next door to Gabe, with his adorable pup Otto. Gabe has no idea who his new neighbour is.
In a chance meeting while walking Otto, Brody bumps into Gabe, they are both lost for words, they are both attracted to each other. They exchange numbers, with the promise to text. Brody is worried about becoming involved with another teammate, without history repeating itself.
Their relationship moves at a wonderful pace, and they declare their feelings. Brody has never felt so loved and trusts Gabe. Brody hears something from Gabe while taking to a teammate, the misunderstanding has the ability to unravel everything.
Joshua Harwood and Ryan Taylor (in my opinion ), are quite simply the best at what they do. Yet again, they have written another phenomenal book, full of love, heat, intrigue, hurt, comfort and of course hockey. I love how vulnerable Brody came across , I could feel his trepidation, and then how he relaxed with Gabe. Gabe was such a sweetheart and so patient, always putting Brody’s feelings above his. The chemistry from these two, set the pages alight. I adore Otto. I loved hearing from Harper and Luca too (Crossed Sticks).
Josh and Ryan know hockey, and even though I don't, I can understand it just by their descriptions. This book is just awesome, and I cannot rate it highly enough.
“Gabe plus Brody equaled something I’d only dreamed of-contentment.
I absolutely loved this book!! I devoured it so fast! Brody and Gabe were so real, down to earth and a lot of fun! They had a attraction from beginning but Brody wasn’t in the right place for that. He got hurt from his previous team and he didn't want anything like to happen again. Gabe had to be patient with him and reassure him that Buffalo wasn't like that at all. The guys on the team made him feel welcome and the more he got to know how them, he understood what Gabe was telling him. Gabe and Brody may have tried to hide but with the connection they had, it was impossible to not see it. The guys were a big part of this story and how they rallied around each other, whether after a win or when one is having a bad day, they cared. They cared enough to bring them back together with big grand gesture. You will absolutely adore the characters and the hearts they have for each other and their significant others. This was a great book!!
Brody is scared, alone and abandoned when he arrives in Buffalo. He is struggling with a lot of things but the biggest is trust. He doesn’t trust himself and he doesn’t trust anyone else.
Gabe is lonely, tired of being used for what he is, and not being able to find someone who wants to be with him for him. He’s taking a hiatus from dating.
When they “meet for the first time both of them are instantly attracted. Brody unsettles Gabe in a way Gabe doesn’t expect. Brody’s attraction wasn’t as subtle. He knew he was in trouble even though he didn’t want to be.
Both Brody & Gabe are protectors on the ice, and that translates to who they are as characters as well. Gabe’s job is to protect the goal for his team, and he takes that job seriously on and off the ice. Brody is a d-man and his job is to protect his goalie, and he does it well.
Their protectiveness of their relationship is one of the sweetest things, although Gabe is out and proud he understands Brody’s reasoning, and his need to be private about it. He doesn’t push hard, just gentle nudges to remind Brody his new team is nothing like his last. Trust is the foundation of everything in Brody’s life, and if that trust is broken it is something he may not be able to forgive.
This is the story of how two protective hockey players learn to love themselves and each other with a sweetness not seen on the ice. Will their bond make or break the team they both love?
Net Bet is the 2nd book in the Buffalo Warriors series and it did not disappoint! This is Gabe and Brody's story. We met Gabe in the first book Crossed Sticks because he is a teammate of Harpy and friend of Luca. You don't need to read the first book to enjoy this one but I highly recommend it. I love when authors connect their books so its all one 'world'. This is one of my favorite things about Ryan and Joshua's books. I smile every time a character, location or situation is mentioned or brought back in one book that occurred in another book or series. My heart broke for Brody and I actually got mad reading what happened to him. I wanted to reach in and hug him and seriously hurt those hateful idiots. It so unfortunate that these things happen not only in fiction but in reality. Ryan and Joshua, if you feel so inclined to write about their demise, I believe Em alluded to karma getting them....... I'm so glad that Brody worked through his challenges with a professional and he met great guys, teammates and the love of his life in Gabe. The Warriors really showed him that he is brother and they have his back no matter what. Gabe and Brody had their challenges but they fought for their happiness. Another great book by Ryan and Joshua, I highly recommend it!
P.S. I am sooooo looking forward to the next book in the series. I absolutely adore the two MCs that are named for the next book.
Emotional, captivating, hot, dramatic ate all words I could use to describe this fabulous Sports romance MM story.
Nothing is left on the Bench as this story unfolds and yes there are a few calls to send a character to the Penalty Box for a time out...but that is why I enjoyed this book so much.
A true work of art which does not shy away from the heavy, yet still provides an enticing and beautiful story with unforgettable characters (both main and supporting), chemistry, heat, drama, and a dedication to the sport too.
Net Bet literally became one of my favorite books. I loved Gabe’s and Brody’s chemistry, their teasing, and their competitive nature. Both have been hurt in the past and starting something new was scary for them but they couldn’t deny their chemistry. Their emotional journey will have you hooked. This book is full of love, hurt, comfort, and of course spice. Brody is a new player for the warriors he transferred because his old team was hostile towards him for secretly dating a teammate. He’s fragile and scared and swore off relationships until he meets Gabe. His teammate and new neighbor. Gabe is the Warriors goalie was known for dating younger influencers but they ended up using him and tossing him when they were done. Feeling used, hurt and lonely he took a break from dating especially younger men until he runs into Brody. Their chemistry was undeniable from the start. The dating starts with a simple bet, they fall in love and become each other’s everything until Brody finds out the truth. The hurt that comes after is heartbreaking but their happily ever after that comes after is well worth it.
“You’ve turned my world into something so wonderful, it’s hard to think it’s real. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I wake up and just look at you. I can hardly breathe because I can’t believe I get to be the one beside you.

This book was perfect! So sweet and wholesome with emotional moments. I loved the healing and angst in this book as well.
This book is spicy with lots of dirty talk and first times! Gabe and Brody are just amazing. I loved the banter and communication between the two. The initial interaction was so cute! Lots of swoon worthy moments in this book. I just loved these two!
If you want a wholesome hockey romance, with lots of spicy moments I recommend so much!
NET BET By Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood Book 2 of Buffalo Warriors Hockey Series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I received an E-book ARC edition of this novel in exchange for an honest review. The novel will be available on Amazon & Kindle Unlimited on February 12, 2025.
--‘Love is when he gives you a piece of your soul that you never knew was missing.-- ---Torquato Tasso
This medium-paced 304-page Age Gap, Angsty Forced Proximity MM Hockey Romance, is harshly fearful and emotional. Written in alternating chapters duel POV, this Angsty Contemporary sports novel takes you on a healing journey to find one’s self again and live a happy and loving life. Please note Trigger Warnings before reading the novel.
When 22 year old Brody gets traded to the Warriors, he comes with PTSD baggage and rumors. He’s a blonde haired, icy blue-eyed fierce D-Man in the rink, but off the ice, he’s secluded and closed off to protect himself after everything he went threw with his last team. 32 year old Gabe is the Warrior’s Goalie and has been out as a gay man for years. He a protector on and off the ice and wears his heart on his sleeve and gives it away easily only to have it broken and left alone. When these 2 hockey gods meet, the cute is instantaneous, with bumbling conversation and electrically surgeful! (I know that’s not a word, go with it).
--“F♡ck all my fears, because if playing hockey meant I had to deny myself the right to be human, it wasn’t worth it.”
The plot starts off at the beginning of the hockey season. A skiddish Brody with his dog Otto just moved in and is getting situated. After many teases and making f*ck-me eyes toward each other, the name of the title comes into play. A bet is made to push Gabe to make a move and that detail took the LONG game approach that even a reminder is needed. It was a smooth trajectory, with minor & major conflicts and worries, awesome expression, and intimate dialogue that was occasionally dirty and fun.
--“Life isn’t about being perfect because we all fail that test. It’s about stay the course, being there even when you’re discouraged or pissed off. Those things help us rise above our humanity.”
It was written with great character development and plot detail. It has a great mix of relationship cute first dates as well as sexy and adventurous first-times but also fun hockey action. When Brody finally reveals his big bad traumatizing past, the two guys truly get to know each other. Gabe supports Brody with his whole heart and tries to protect him from his past. All Brody wants to do is heal and move on, but it’s an internal battle, and deciding next steps is a hard choice. The 11th hour twist was so destroying I called my therapists.
--“Do you realize your d!ck is thicker than some people’s wrists?”
The Spice was thrilling!!! 5/5🌶🔥! Even though sexualities were already established, we got to experience a first-time situation, lots of raunchy dirty talk, and a couple of adventurous acts in high heated detail. The last one had me gagged! 💯! Size only matters if it doesn’t fit and it can always fit with patience.
--“I know this isn’t a game.”
The hockey team ensemble returned from the first book, Crossed Sticks, including the first couple Harper & Luca and also got to know Nate (Holky) better. They are a great group of guys that show what inclusive male sports should look like and how easy it can be with open minds. We also got to meet Emma, Brody’s bestie and my MVP! She’s forward and sassy, yet supportive and serious. The last spicy scene hints at the next book, I think!
--“I’ll always make time for you.”
This addition to the Warriors Hockey Series was written phenomenally. The husband author duo never shies away from tough topics while giving us love. write them realistically and authentically. The homophobic abuse Brody experiences can stick to a person like a physical scar that fades but never fully disappears. Healing from those experiences are different from person to person, and the way Gabe helps Brody move passed that brick wall was head-on commitment, emotionally supportive, and unique to each of them for their own healing mentality.
Net Bet by Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood is the second book in their Buffalo Warriors Hockey series. It is the story of two hockey players who have been hurt in their relationships before and have to learn to trust each other to find the love they have always hoped for. Brody Tanner has just been traded to the Buffalo Warriors hockey team after a difficult year with the Boston Beanies. He was having a secret relationship with one of the players who was deep in the closet and when they were found out there were some disastrous results that left Brody broken and hurting and wondering if there was anyone out there that he could trust with his heart. Gabe Donovan has played goalie for the Warriors for 12 years. He always seems to date younger influencer guys who only want to use him for publicity and don’t want anything long term. He has gotten tired of this and has decided not to date for a while. Gabe meets Brody when he goes for a run and Brody is walking his dog, Otto. They recognize each other and Gabe says he will be happy to show Brody around their town. They both feel a spark of attraction with Brody thinking Gabe is everything he wants but he has to resist him because of what dating a player did to him in Boston. Gabe realizes that Brody is the same age as the influencers he is dating and he is wary, too, but he thinks there might be something happening there that he wants to explore. Unfortunately, Brody avoids him as much as possible, even when his best friend, Emma, tries to tell him that things will be different here as Gabe is out and popular and his therapist tells him he should start testing the dating waters. When Gabe takes his new neighbor pastries he finds out it is Brody and they kiss when he leaves. Then he hosts a cookout where they flirt and this leads to a hot love scene. After watching them together, Holky, one of the players, makes a light hearted dating bet with Gabe about Brody which is going to cause problems later. Gabe and Brody start dating and eventually Brody tells him what happened to him in Boston and when Brody gets cornered by a girl Gabe is jealous and they decide to become boyfriends but in secret for now. They get snowed in at Christmas, exchange some heartfelt presents, and declare their love for each other. But Brody is still spooked by what happened to him and they tell the team they are together and no one is surprised. Then after a shutout game for Gabe, he overhears him talking to Holky about the bet, which they had forgotten about. Brody immediately feels that Gabe was only dating him because of the bet and that their love isn’t real, but just a way for him to win it. Gabe does everything he can to dissuade Brody of those thoughts but it doesn’t work because his trust has been broken. Brody gets the flu and Emma comes over and says he should talk to Gabe and not give up. Gabe is crushed and this shows in his hockey playing but he is going to do everything he can to make it up to Brody and show him how much he loves him. He tells his player friends about what happened and they help him devise a plan that in the end works and helps Brody redeem his past and look forward to a future filled with love with Gabe. I really enjoyed this story. Brody was broken from his past and it took a while for Gabe to break through his defenses. Gabe was also sure he wasn’t going to find someone who wanted him for himself and not his professional persona. But they had a spark right from the beginning, and even the repercussions from the bet didn’t stop them from finding their happy ending. The other members of the hockey team were great friends and did what they could to help, as did Emma with Brody. Otto added a fun factor to the scenes he was in. There was lots of hockey playing in several games as well as some hot loving that added to the story. I highly recommend this book, especially if you like hurt/comfort stories about hockey players who have been unlucky in love before but find it together after they figure out how to trust and believe in each other.
It is time to reunite with the Buffalo boys, one of my favourite hockey teams, thanks to Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood for creating them! These guys are the best, they are quite good at hockey too it would seem!
This team are one big family, they all have one another's backs (and fronts) they love to mercilessly tease but they will also stand up for and by one another no matter what. Gabe is their goal keeper and he is one half of the pair whose story this is - don't worry many of the other players have important roles to play and pop up throughout the story. Brody is the newcomer, the new defenseman and it is not just nerves about joining a new team as the result of a trade, which are affecting him.
Brody is hoping to leave behind a very traumatic past, his old team turned on him in the nastiest of ways and he hopes that this new team will become his new family, accept him for who he is and let him do what he does best. Play hockey.
Gabe can hold the line under pressure, keeps the other team's puck away from his goal and is strong on the ice. Off the ice life is a bit more of a disaster, especially his dating life!
Brody and Gabe meet in the park, the one by both their homes, for little do they realise that they are neighbours. Gabe is thrilled when he learns the news, Brody a little more reticent. After all he finds Gabe insanely attractive and far too perceptive. Gabe it seems has a knack, he can break down Brody's walls far too easily, he seems too genuine, too kind but Brody soon sees that it is all real, all honest. The team, the nosy but wonderful extended family they are, see it too, the spark between their goal keeper and D-man.
The spark is there and it grows into something deeper, something meaningful but there is going to be angst and not just because of the hurt Brody holds inside. A playful bet, a misunderstanding and everything could fall apart, could break both their hearts. But one of them is nothing if not persistent, the other has a very strong-willed best friend, hopefully with them, the cutest dog and the best of teammates the pair will work through their angst and find themselves the happy ending they deserve.
This is the second book in the series but stands entirely alone. It focuses on Gabe and Brody, their character development is fantastic, there is a real depth to the story and the romance, the tension is blended expertly with the hockey. It feels very real and is very steamy. With many tropes, mixing together to make a story that I could not tear myself away from, this is another outstanding book from an outstanding pair of authors.
Be warned this book will steal your heart, and that is just when you meet Otto for the first time, "the little traitor remained glued to Gabe's feet, looking up at him adoringly." Then there is Gabe " mn far hotter than I ever saw." And of course Brody, "drop-dead gorgeous." They are going to face their own challenges but that is nothing compared to what they put my poor heart through. I am happy I survived to share the story, this is one not to be missed and that I already want to revisit!
Sometimes you just find an author you vibe with in a way you can’t explain. The anticipation for each new book is overwhelming and when you read it , it’s always everything you hoped for. Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood are those authors for me. Because they are “own voices, their point of view always feels authentic and realistic. Their character development lets me see into the minds and hearts of their sometimes flawed but always beautiful men. I learn things, I feel things and I grow a little bit with each book they write. Net Bet is the second installment of the Buffalo Warriors hockey series and features Brody, the newest member of the team. Needing a fresh start after a horrible situation involving a former teammate, an emotionally scarred and shaken Brody is traded to the Warriors. He can’t imagine ever trusting another man until he meets Gabe, the Warrior’s goalie. Gabe is jaded and so tired of dating superficial influencers who only want to trade on his fame. He just wants something real and sustainable. I loved watching the dance as these two men cautiously navigated through their growing attraction while trying to protect their hearts. I’m not a mental health professional, but I always feel like that aspect of the characters is handled with truth and sensitivity. Their emotional damage is real. It is not sugar coated or easily solved with an “I love you. It takes time and work and I’m so grateful Ryan and Josh give them that. It keeps me rooting for them to succeed and when they do, the HEA is so satisfying! This book has incredible hockey scenes that will leave you breathless. It’s clear how much these authors (and characters) know and love their sport. The excitement of the game is woven throughout the book and will have you on the edge of your seat during crucial moments. Lest you think this book is just hockey and angst, let me reassure you the heat between these two is like a five alarm fire! These are some of the most scorching and inventive scenes I’ve ever read in an MM romance, so buckle up!! 🔥🔥🔥 These are two bold athletes who don’t mind engaging in a little NSFW activity no matter where they are—if the feeling strikes! I absolutely loved this book and can’t wait for the audiobook next! Highly recommend!!
MY OPINION: What I love about a hockey romance is that it feels like a warm blanket. You know you might be in for a bit of a roller coaster, but there is a familiarity to it, too. This one didn’t disappoint. I enjoyed this book very much, and I have not read the first one. It stood on its own quite well.
These men are wonderful on their own, offering a warmth as individuals that makes you want to know them more. Before getting into the MCs, it should be noted that their team is a family that shows up for them when needed and offers everything a group of hockey guys can. None of them are afraid to step up when needed.
Gabe has done the tons of random men in his bed thing, perfect blond influencer, which he was willing to entertain for a bit before he moved on to the next one. He had grown up and grown tired of the game. He was ready to have a real relationship with a real man. The problem was finding that man and then actually having something that wasn’t just for their social media accounts.
Brody had a situation with his last team that damaged him because they were homophobic and weren’t afraid to take it out on him physically and emotionally. They traded him to Buffalo, where they weren’t that way; they were inclusive and supportive. It didn’t change the wounds he had, the PTSD he carried, or the fear that was bone-deep. He didn’t want to feel this way forever but was afraid he would.
When these men meet it’s electric and we are just along for the ride. They learn to trust, to love, and to heal. Traveling with them to find their happily ever after feels good. You want to take away the fear and the pain, and you ache when they struggle. There is also lots of spice that gives you a physical way to see their connection. This was a good book that I would refer to a friend. As I said before, I love a hockey romance, and this one was GREAT! Give it a read. You won’t be disappointed.
This is the second book in the Buffalo Warriors Hockey series but it can be enjoyed as a standalone read. Gabe Donovan is the goalie for the Buffalo Warriors. He is well respected and openly gay. In his 30's he is considered old by hockey standards. Gabe is tired of the endless string of casual dates that lead nowhere. He wants to find someone who wants just Gabe and not NHL Gabe. Brody Tanner is having an awful year. He is the newest defenseman for the Buffalo Warriors. He had to be traded because his last team turned on him. It was dangerous, abusive and scary. Brody plans on wiping the slate clean and having himself a brand new start. All his focus is going to be on playing hockey and his sweet dog Otto. But then while out for a walk with Otto in his new neighborhood, he runs into Gabe. The chemistry is instantaneous. Gabe offers to show Brody around his new neighborhood but Brody doesn't take him up on it. After what he just survived, Brody is not getting close nor interested in another hockey player. Good thing that Gabe is a patient man. This is their story. The book is very well written and easy to read. I liked how the two of them respected each other. Gabe gave Brody the time and space that he needed to feel safe and get his confidence back. And as usual, the rest of their teammates supported both of them. After what Brody has been through, he is surprised to see that they really mean it when they say that they have your back. With hard work, they both might get what they want. Each other. I look forward to the next book in this series.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really enjoyed this book, these authors are great at delivering a story full of heart, feeling and a whole lot of hockey! Gabe and Brody are just perfect for each other, even if it doesn’t seem like it in the beginning. Brody is starting with a new team after an absolutely horrible experience with his last team that has left him fearful and unable to trust. Gabe is a notorious playboy, not known for any real relationships, but he’s tired of that lifestyle and not being wanted for who he really is. But when these two meet their connection in undeniable and has both of them thinking about giving something real a try.
I really loved these two together, they really bring out the best in each other and it feels very natural and very heartfelt. I loved how protective Gabe is of Brody and how determined he is to be there for him and support him. You can tell how much these two want to be loved and deserve to be loved and it certainly seems like they have found that together. They seem to be able to work through their issues and build a solid relationship together, but they do have the ‘big-mis moment and it results in hurt for both Gabe and Brody. My heart HURT for them going through that, but it’s also a learning moment for them both. It’s in that time that they really discover how deep and true their love is and what they will do to fight to keep it.
Overall, this was a great read, a lot of feeling, love and emotion and also a good mix of humor, sweetness and of course hockey! I was definitely rooting for Brody and Gabe, I wanted to see them find the happiness and the love they deserve and boy did they! I also loved seeing the other players/partners and how they support their teammates. A great addition to this hockey world!
"... it was a painful reminder that even the strongest-looking men can carry deep scars."
Brody is new to the Warriors, and he comes with a traumatic past that continues to haunt him. Gabe, a season player on the team, is ready to settle down and find someone who will love him for who he is, not for his celebrity status.
Taking the risk, Brody agrees to Gabe's invitation to get to know each other; date. And they keep it a secret so not to potentially unsettle the team and to hep Brody ease into feeling comfortable and confident that no harm will come to him for engaging in a relationship with a fellow team mate. Gabe is patient, and so understanding. He says and does all the right things and makes Brody feel valued, important; that he matters. Brody gives his heart to Gabe and appreciates him for who he is. But one silly bet could ruin everything.
This is the second book in the Buffalo Warriors Hockey Series, but can be read as a standalone. It's full of funny banter, some steamy romance and a dirty talking MMC.
Their fellow team mates are incredibly understanding, kind, funny friends who respect and will do just about anything for each other, and some of the familiar characters from Crossed Sticks make an appearance.
Ryan & Joshua write beautiful stories that deal with tough themes, and Brody's PTSD was written in a compassionate, nonjudgemental way. They shine a light on men's mental health - breaking down the stigma of "men don't cry". I absolutely loved Gabe and Brody's story! Can't wait to see what's in store for book 3!
I received a free ARC of this book, and this review is only my opinion.
The story of two people looking for love. Gabe, a goalie seeking a genuine connection with someone who loves him for who he is, not his star status. Brody, who has sworn off dating after a painful romance left him with emotional scars.
The characters felt authentic, and their backstories provided a clear understanding of their actions and motivations. Despite the 10- year age gap, the relationship between Gabe and Brody never felt creepy or exploitative. The dynamic between them was balanced and respectful. Gabe was incredibly understanding of Brody's struggles, showing patience and unwavering support throughout the story. The flirting and playful banter, often filled with double meanings were perfectly executed and added humor and charm to their interactions.
This book contains a fair amount of spicy content. If that's not your preference, you can skip those scenes without losing the overall plot, though you might miss a few details but would not ruin the story.
Both characters were incredibly lovable, and the pacing of the story was just right, not too rushed nor too drawn out.
I highly recommend this book to fans of hockey romances and age gap relationships. I enjoyed it so much that I plan to continue with the series.
Rating: 4.5/5 stars. While not perfect, it was enjoyable to read with excellent pacing and engaging characters with only a few minor things I didn't like or enjoy in books I read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a book I would have normally read in 1-2 days. But I ended up with the flu, and my brain did not want to work. So I read most of this in between naps and half delirious at times. I still ended up really enjoying it though.
Brody has a pretty tragic back story, and I liked that the authors didn't shy away from it. It had multiple effects on him, his hockey, and his relationship with Gabe throughout the book. Much more realistic than the "love conquers all" that I see in a lot of stories. But he's very resilient, puts the work in, and truly wants a relationship. Gabe was incredibly patient. He also put in a lot of work to earn and keep Brody's trust. I also loved how the team came together to help them as well
The book has really good balance. We get plenty of hockey, including practice, games, and roadies, plus spicy scenes and a good amount of sweet almost domestic scenes. I did find myself skimming a lot of the hockey scenes. I think that had more to do with the fact that my brain had trouble keeping up than anything to do with the writing (honestly, it probably means the scenes were written well). Some of my favorite parts of this story were quiet moments between Gabe and Brody though
I've got a guess for one of the MCs for the next book, and I'm interested to see if I'm right. It was great to see the other guys on the team, and I can't wait to read more about them!
I received an ARC of this book from Literally Yours PR, and this is my honest review
Rating: 4/5 🌟 Spice: 3/5 🌶 Characters: Gabe and Brody
Brody is the new player on the team as well as Gabe's new neighbor. A lot went down with his previous team that left him traumatized so he's hesitant to really get close to people and struggles with trusting people. Gabe is a bit older, loves his team, and enjoys regular hookups without commitment. They are both attracted from the moment they see each other and the chemistry is on fire from their first meeting. The steam is incredible, and the development of the relationship is sweet. It does feel like feelings come a bit quick so I wouldn't say it's a slow burn, but it isn't instalove either. I loved that we got plenty of moments with them playing hockey as well as some fun moments with friends and teammates. There is a great found family aspect, and I'm definitely interested in a few of their teammates. The conflict is pretty obvious but thankfully it doesn't last too long, and they are able to overcome it without too much drama or a big separation.
This was my first time reading the authors, but it won't be my last. I'm already looking at their impressive backlist and can't wait to dive into it.
I received an ARC of Net Bet in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Net Bet. The story was well written, low angst with moderate spice. I would say this is one of those feel good stories. Yes there is some angst and my heart was hurting for these boys at certain points in the book but mostly I felt good while reading.
From their first meet cute scene I fell in love with Gabe & Brody and adored seeing their relationship develop. They were just so smitten with each other and I was all for it.
I love the camaraderie between the Warriors and it was nice to see some familiar faces from Crossed Sticks.
I know absolutely nothing about ice hockey (well apart from the players are hot as hell). Ryan & Joshua write the hockey scenes perfectly and even though I have no idea half the time what’s actually happening and what all the terms mean I feel like I can follow along. Surprisingly I actually enjoyed reading those scenes, usually I tend to zone out.

Net Bet is my first book Ryan Taylor and Joshua Harwood. Both Ryan and Joshua have done fantastic job at weaving the story and creating all the characters. I utterly fell in love with both the main characters - Gabe and Brody. These men are sweet, caring, understanding and affectionate. My heart bleed for what Brody had to go through and how that incident changed his demeanor. I wanted to wrap in a hug and assure him everything will be okay. Gabe is exactly what Brody needed. Gabe is patient with Brody, makes him feel comfortable and safe and supports him unconditionally. And Brody on the other hand brings the stability and partnership in Gabe’s life which Gabe is desperately looking for. Brody and Gabe are that one missing piece from each other’s life puzzle which when found fit perfectly to complete a beautiful picture. I adore them as individual characters and as a couple. I loved this book and 1000% recommend it if you are into reading MM romance.
DNF @43% - I just can’t with this one. Given all the 5-star reviews, I expected more, but this was painful from the beginning.
First, don’t even get me started on the dirty talk. Not the least bit sexy. Maybe if they were being ironic it would have been funny, but terms like “man-juice and “meat were used all too seriously.
Second, the character’s actions were completely inconsistent. I wondered for a while if Brody had a condition like nymphomania, since he’s allegedly terrified of getting together with a teammate or getting caught, but has to hold himself back from throwing himself at Gabe. And then they do ultra risky handjobs in public. What? How inconsiderate to push someone scared into that, and how reckless to do so yourself if you’re actually scared.
It just requires too much suspension of disbelief, and there is nothing particularly charming or entertaining about the characters or the story to balance it. The one good hook was the fear, and it’s not credible that someone afraid would act the way Brody does.
I held on to try to finish it, but it’s pulling teeth and I just have to give up.

I enjoyed reading Net Bet, the second book in the Buffalo Warriors series but it can be read as a standalone story. I think this writing pair has stepped up the heat in their stories. When I reviewed Crossed Sticks I said I thought it was the hottest book I’d read by them; Net Bet is right up there in heat level. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gabe is out but Brody is not. Brody was traded to the Warriors after some really bad stuff went down with his old team. We don’t find out exactly what happened for quite a way into the story. We just know that whatever it was, it’s what’s making Brody very reluctant to start anything with Gabe.
After they get together things seem fine until something happens at about 68% into the story. I know that conflict can help keep a story interesting and what happened did but it was also something I saw coming and I kind of wish I hadn’t been anticipating it so much.
I can forgive almost anything when a book has a great epilogue and the one for this book was nice and long and quite wonderful.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
You can never go wrong with Ryan and Joshua; this book is no exception. I've enjoyed all their stories, and this one delivers another heartfelt and engaging romance.
Gabe is a veteran NHL player, while Brody is still early in his career. He struggles through difficult seasons that have left him with deep trust issuesâ€ both in himself and his teammates. Thankfully, he has one close friend to keep him grounded. Meanwhile, Gabe finds himself on the other side of Brody’s walls, wanting to know him but understanding that patience is key.
As their bond grew, I loved how Brody’s new team subtly helped bring them together while pretending not to notice. Their dynamic felt real, with any relationship's natural ups and downs. And, of course, when challenges arise, the team steps up best.
This story concerns trust, friendship, teamwork, strength, and love. Be prepared for a satisfying HEA that will leave you smiling!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Monica
**Net Bet (Buffalo Warriors #2)** is an incredible 5-star read that truly captivated me. The journey of Gabe Donovan and Brody Tanner is anything but simple; both carry the weight of past relationships that threaten to hold them back.
Gabe longs for something real, yearning to find a meaningful connection rather than a series of fleeting encounters. Meanwhile, Brody grapples with deep-seated trust issues, constantly doubting himself and questioning the sincerity of those around him.
From the moment their eyes meet, an undeniable spark ignites, setting off a passionate fire that fuels their attraction. However, life’s complexities soon intervene. A miscommunication spirals into a web of mistrust and insecurity, sending them down a rocky path. Brody’s vulnerabilities make it tough for him to accept Gabe’s reassurances—can Gabe muster the patience to navigate the emotional turmoil that follows?
This heartfelt hockey novel delivers not just a thrilling storyline but also richly developed characters who will stay with you long after the last page is turned.
I finished Net Bet by @ryan.josh.th and it was such a sweet ice hockey, teammates to lovers romance. This is the story of Gabe, who is lonely and wants someone to choose him for who he really is, and Brody, who has been through so much he doesn’t trust himself to choose the right person anymore. These two had an instant attraction, their meet cute was highly amusing and then of course training camp begins where their attraction and chemistry only grows. Gabe was so gentle and patient with Brody as they navigated through their attraction, what it would mean for them both and the team, and dealing with the real trauma of Brody’s past. Brody was just a beautiful soul, my heart broke for what he’d been through and I was so happy he found what he needed in Gabe. It didn’t come without some issues to work through, however their communication and commitment to each other was beautiful to read. This book brought the spice and a little voyerism, which I think may provided an eye opening experience for the next MC! Cannot wait for the next book!
4.5 was super excited when I saw that this, the second book in the Buffalo Warrios Hockey series, was coming out. I really enjoyed the first one and am so happy to continue to read about these team members who are like a found family. These teammates are all so supportive of one another, which is something that poor Brody, the younger MC, is not used to. He had a horrible expereince on his old team -what happened to him was so upsetting! - but the Warriors have your back, baby boy, Gabe most of all! I love their meet cute at the park! And i love the coincidence of where their homes are (so convenient! Ahem - I wonder if this is a trend that will continue in future BW books?Hmmm). Love how sweetly Brody and Gabe connect - and their chemistry sizzles! One thing (out of many) these authors do very well is write excellent spicy scenes!! Love the cameos from book one and I'm already looking forward to the next!
