He’s the Ghost of Christmas Past. She’s not exactly Scrooge.

Ghost of Christmas Past Nolan Callahan intends to spend this holiday haunting like every other—get in, get out, return to his otherwise aimless existence as a ghost awaiting the afterlife. But when he’s faced with Harriet York, the sweetest assignment he’s ever had, he suddenly finds himself wishing for a future.

Harriet York has no idea why she’s being haunted. She’s a good person—or, at least, she tries to be. A people pleaser to her core, she always does what’s expected of her. But as she and Nolan begin to examine her past, they discover there are threads that bind them together and realize there might be more to moving on than expected.

With the deadline of Christmas Eve fast approaching, will they find the key to their futures in each other’s pasts? Or will they stay firmly in the present, indulging in their unexpected, spirited connection?

You don’t even understand.

and if you're into official things like blurbs, this is mine:

"Good Spirits is holiday romance perfection, with BK Borison's trademark mix of witty banter, a cozy setting that feels like being wrapped up in the warmest blanket, and a love story that makes you want to scream into a pillow, all of it topped with a bow of pure, undiluted magic. Borison is a gift to romance readers, and fully in a league of her own."

I’m proudly announcing my top romance pick for 2025! I’m so certain nothing will surpass this one!

I’ve always adored B.K. Borison’s romcoms, but her fresh take on the Ghosted series with this magnificent paranormal romance is something truly special. I loved every part of it! The grumpy-meets-sunshine trope was perfectly executed, the main characters were absolutely delightful, and I even considered knitting scarves for them! They’re sweeter than fig jam, lemon drops, and blueberry Danish combined!

This is the kind of book that makes you want to shout your love from the rooftops!

The story follows Harriet York, who inherits her Aunt Mathilda’s antique shop. She may see herself as a people-pleaser, but in reality, she’s the kindest soul—always putting others first, even when her loved ones criticize her for not standing up for herself. In her mid-twenties, with curly hair, a love for colorful fashion, a sweet tooth, and a home filled with Christmas cheer, she’s basically the anti-Scrooge!

But one night, as she sips on stale peppermint tea, she discovers an unexpected visitor in her home—Nolan, a ruggedly charming Irish sailor in his mid-twenties. He introduces himself as the Ghost of Christmas Past, claiming he’s haunting her for the wrongs she’s committed. His mission? To take her on a journey through her past so she can face her mistakes, after which he’ll disappear forever.

But two things Nolan doesn’t anticipate:

Harriet is genuinely one of the sweetest, most selfless people ever—far from the Scrooge he expected to redeem.
The more time they spend together, the less ghostly Nolan feels. His magic starts to wane, and for the first time, he begins to feel something real.
If Harriet isn’t the Scrooge he was meant to haunt, why was he sent to her? And how can he possibly walk away when he’s falling so hard for her?

Overall: THIS BOOK IS CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE FOR MY SOUL!
I can’t even put into words how much I adored it! It may be early in the year, but I already know this will be my favorite romance of 2025. I genuinely can’t imagine loving another book as much as this one!

 10 stars, easily!

A massive thank you to B.K. Borison for writing such an incredible book—I cannot wait for the next installment in the Ghosted series!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon & Harper Voyager for providing me with a digital review copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

she was good and i truly didn’t expect her to be great- this was clearly such a passion project thing for bk and who am i to refute her 💫

i didn’t minddd the romance, i just wish there had been a little *more*, whether that was development from their initial meeting and less focus on their physical attraction maybe? i also thought the entire premise of him being the ghost of christmas past was underutilized. was he actually, because this felt like a fairly typical romance with a magical realism twist; it truly didn’t come into action until past the 70% mark. overall a potentially cutesy holiday read but i enjoyed all of her previous books more!!

thank you to netgalley and avon for the arc!!

This is was such a cutie Christmasy read! I think Bk did such a great job with the Christmas themes and imagery, while still having characters with depth and real challenges. The tension was perfectly delicious and the spice surprised me! I ate it up. The way this resolved was fairly simple. I think I had higher expectations but nonetheless I had a lovely time reading this one!

What a unique book concept. This was such a fun and different read. I loved the idea of a ghost and the “haunting. It was fun to try and connect the dots of why they were put together. I was trying to find clues as to why things were happening but I guess I was as clueless as Nolan haha.

I relate a LOT to Harriet. I felt such a deep sense of understanding when she was explaining how she didn’t feel like she fit and she was trying to stop forcing herself into the spaces not meant for her. I feel like I desperately needed to read about this as I have been struggling lately with this.

Overall, I did enjoy this quite a bit and would recommend!

The Ghosts of Christmas Pasts aka the lovely people at Avon Books granted my book wish and gave me a digital arc.

Good Spirits is winterlicious, believe the hype readers because this is the Holiday book of the YEAR. B.K. knows how to capture the ambience of the holiday season and just bump up the holiday joy. The cult classic ‘A Christmas Carol is given new life and sparkled it with new holiday cheer. I’m kind of sad that I read this early and definitely will be revisiting this in December during the holiday season.

It's such a Christmas crowd pleaser that vibrates with effervescent warmth and joy. I'm also blown away by the lore woven into the universe that B.K. has created. It's rational and there's a perfect cause and effect. Nolan and Harriet's time travelling and journey was well worth the wait.

Also a man that carries candy canes in his jacket pocket for the woman he loves? That's adorable.

Can't wait to be drinking holiday drinks and cozying up with this book later this year, and going on more adventures soon!

Bk Borison and magical realism is not something I ever knew I needed and now I’m not sure how I’ll ever recover. Good Spirits was a new take from this author. Combining her ability to create the most beautifully crafted characters and a plot that had you on your toes until the very end. The subtle doses of magic and wonder mixed in with a heart stopping romance.

Harriet was such a fun character, despite her past and upbringing she brought such joy and wonder to everyday. While also trying to fill in the cracks. Nolan a grumpy fisherman, living 100 years as a ghost of Christmas past. These two mix and blend so well creating the most wonderful blend of romance, friendship and joy.

I love how she blended in their past with the present, the plot was fast paced and I never felt myself wondering. The writing was as magical as the plot is and I know this book became and instant favorite of mine this year.

Swoony and bonkers in equal measure, this was a festive, feel good treat. Our couple wastes no time falling for each other, so there was plenty of sugar, SPICE, and all things nice, paired with enough forbidden tension to keep it interesting. I kinda loved that I never knew where the story was going to head next; the magic added a level of unpredictability that kept me on my toes. The magical elements worked well with the Christmas vibes without being overwhelming - they are absolutely present throughout, but not too much for this contemporary romance reader. I will say that you have to be willing to go along for the ride without asking too many questions, as there were definitely some logistical things that were never explained. But it was exactly what I want in a holiday romance, with characters who are multifaceted, compelling, and easy to root for. I particularly loved the sweetheart of a hero, who steals the show in the best of ways.

The story follows Harriet, an antique shop owner who gets an unwelcome visitor for the holidays. When a jaded, handsome man enters her life claiming to be a ghost of Christmas past, Harriet isn’t sure what to think. She knows she’s never been perfect, but she’s not a bad person. Having spent the last one hundred years showing people the error of their ways, Nolan is convinced that visiting Harriet’s past will reveal the ways she’s gone astray. But as the two spend more time together, he only sees the good in her. Tasked with wrapping things up as soon as possible, Nolan finds himself reluctant to leave Harriet, especially since neither one is entirely sure what’s going on. With a little ghostly magic and a lot of chemistry, Harriet and Nolan figure it out together.

I’m a huge fan of Borison’s writing, so I was willing to go on this magical journey. I’m not a big paranormal reader, but the romance was absolutely the heart of this story. Nolan is a ghost with some peculiar powers, but the book is focused on their unexpected connection and the feelings that develop between them. I loved how Harriet brought out a different side of Nolan, waking him up and making him feel alive again. He’s a little grumbly at first, but a total sweetheart once we get to know him better. They fall for each other quickly, but the more layers that are revealed, the more their connection makes sense. The story is very lighthearted and swoony overall, with a whole lot of spice to heat things up. I loved that it had complexity without ever getting too heavy - just what I like in a holiday read. There were maybe a few things that I wish were delved into deeper, but I also love that the story stayed light. All in all, it was fun and endearing, and I had no trouble bingeing the whole thing.

First and foremost, a huge thank you to NetGalley and Avon & Harper Voyager for granting me an early digital review copy of this highly anticipated book in exchange for my honest thoughts!

Five. Stars.

Now, where do I sign up to be haunted by a charming, funny, Irish ghost of Christmas Past who falls in love with me and makes snowflakes appear when he kisses me? Just kidding…unless?

B.K Borison, I was unfamiliar with your game. But now? Now, I need to devour every book you've ever written, desperately chasing the same buzz this book gave me. Immediately.

I adored everything about this book—Harriet and Nolan, their chemistry, the heartfelt plot—every single element was pure perfection. I can't think of a single thing I didn't love.

Reading this WONDERFUL book felt like driving home on Christmas Eve from your grandparents house, hot cocoa in hand, anticipation for Santa bubbling in your stomach, while soft music played on the radio. Or those fleeting moments when the opening notes of a beloved Christmas song transport you back to childhood; when just for a moment, you're six years old again and Santa and magic feel real.

This book made me laugh, blush, and even shed a few tears. The dual POV was executed perfectly. It allowed me to see into both Harriet and Nolan's thoughts in a way that made their connection even more real. And Nolan? I need a man to love me like that. PLEASE.

Come October, I'll be purchasing a physical copy of this masterpiece, along with every book in the series, so I can revisit my new fictional parents, Harriet York and Nolan Callahan, and their silly holiday magic romance.

Utterly enchanting, heart-melting, and impossible to put down.

This will be a huge contender for my favorite book of the year!

Thank you NetGalley and Avon for letting me read this one early!!!

This was deliciously cozy, bafflingly magical, and endearingly sweet. One of the more bonkers concepts I’ve ever read, and everything WORKED. Magical realism is always going to be a fun read for me, and this one was so incredibly well done I want to stand up and applaud. At no point in the story did I have any clue where we were going next, and the ending was as unpredictable as it was lovely. There were a few unanswered questions about the logistics of everything that I would’ve loved answered, but on the whole, a fantastic and festive holiday read that so many would enjoy, with a supporting cast of characters that are as likable as they come, and two relatable main characters in Nolan and Harriet that I never tired of spending time with. Highly recommend for anyone looking for whimsy and holiday fun!!

B.K. Borison has been on my TBR list since hearing Sarah Adams sing her praises at a book release event, and I cannot wait to read more books by her!

Good Spirits was a completely unique twist on the Ghost of Christmas Past, and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. I loved the main characters, Harriet and Nolan, from their first introductions, and I truly felt all the feelings while reading this book. I cried, I laughed, I swooned, I hoped this one will stick me, as so many other great stories have, and I can’t wait to recommend it to my friends this Christmas.

This magical and heartfelt romance was such an enjoyable read!

This was my first time reading a holiday themed book and it was everything I hoped for! It was lighthearted, whimsical, cozy, warm, and festive. The book starts on December 1st and takes place mostly during the lead up to Christmas. This book is filled with so many Christmas and winter activities such as ice skating, decorating, visiting a Christmas tree farm, and wearing cozy flannel pajamas. It put me in the holiday spirit even though I read it in March!

The supernatural elements were super fun and playful. There was a lot of comedic moments involving the inner workings of the afterlife that made me laugh out loud. After reading, I'm excited to explore more of this magical world and the Department of Hauntings and Spirits. The easter eggs involving a certain grim reaper on the loose made me so excited for the next installment in this series!

Harriet's growth was so delightful to read about. I think many readers can relate to her people-pleasing tendencies and reluctance toward confrontation. She's used to accommodating everyone else's needs at the cost of her own but her character development, which is sparked by Nolan guiding her through past memories, is so wonderful. Nolan is a former Irish fisherman turned ghost of Christmas past. He's a bit broody and grumpy but underneath all that he's a lonely man who just wants to move on to a peaceful afterlife after nearly a century of service as a spirit. Nolan is caring, gentle, and incredibly supportive of Harriet through her journey of self-growth.

I cried happy tears during the last few chapters, especially at the beautiful ending. Harriet and Nolan are the definition of soulmates. Their connection is undeniable and timeless.

I highly recommend Good Spirits to romance readers and fans of Ashley Poston!

I need more time to really write out my review but this is my initial thoughts and I’ll probably add more as the year goes on 💀

I just love B. K.’s books so stinking much. Her stories are so unique and engaging and her characters are so well fleshed out and this was no exception. She’s truly in a league of her own with romances and making them so unique and the plot is just so different than anything I’ve ever read.

It was so much fun to read about a ghost of Christmas past and see how the story was going to unfold! I truly had no idea what was going to happen.

I also loved the fmc and how fun and kind she was. I love her love for candy canes and Christmas decor and Nolan just got her and encouraged her and helped her 🥲 I loved the antiques store. The banter was so funny. The writing was so good. I just cannot get over her books honestly they’re SO good

This story was all together magical and I cannot wait to see what Becca does next!!!

Thank you Avon books and NetGalley for the arc I’m so grateful !!!!!
