Navigating with Nerve: Assertive Strategies for Life was a much more interesting book than I had expected when I first started reading it. Linton Khor has done an excellent job in presenting his opinions and ideas to others and I would highly recommend the book to those who feel the need to be able to communicate in a better way. It is a book that, after you finish it, will aid you in feeling more confident in your ability to get your point across to others without feeling as if you are being hostile at the same time.
Navigating with Nerve is a book for those that have to battle with themselves over how to communicate with others, whether it is a friend, relative, or coworker. The ideas written here are good ones to educate people in how to communicate successfully. The title of the book contains the word “assertive which, at least to this reader, is one that I always seem to associate with the words forceful or aggressive. This is obviously not always the case. Here is a book and author that gives readers an intelligent and obviously well-thought out group of ideas which show that being assertive does not have to mean being negative, aggressive, or unable to compromise.
Navigating with Nerve is a great tool for those of us that feel our voice is not heard because we do not really know how to make it be heard clearly without upsetting others. After reading this book, you can honestly say that there is a way to understand someone else’s views on whatever the subject may be without agreeing with or belittling those views. Everyone has a right to their own opinion but, with this book, you will definitely learn that you do not have to back down from expressing your own at any time and you do not have to come out and say another person is wrong. This is the kind of thing that will make one a real communicator and not one who sits by the sidelines afraid to express an idea, or worse, one that fights with others to make their own idea be the “right one.
This book is all about becoming better at sharing your beliefs with others by becoming more confident in yourself. The ideas will work in both personal and professional situations and they will really will help you to find your own appropriate voice. In addition, the exercises in the back of the book on how to express yourself are a perfect complement to the book as well as being interesting and positive for the person who chooses to utilize them.
I would recommend Navigating with Nerve to everyone out there who wants to be heard. It offers a lot of focused and thoughtful ideas that will aid the reader in not only being understood clearly, but also in gaining respect when your voice is heard rather than being ridiculed or disregarded.
Quill says: While I am sure that some may disagree with me, I feel that there are so many self-help books out there that really do not do a huge amount of helping. Having read Navigating with Nerve, I can honestly say that this is not one of those types of books and I think many will find it extremely helpful.
This remind me of Brene Brown’s book which is my favorite snf thr one that after reading, I didn't think I needed to read another one. Nerve and grit, taking control of your life.
