Discover a brand-new world where demons, vampires, fallen angels, gods, and fae roam the earth in modern day San Juan Islands in Immortal Sun, a gripping romantasy from #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken. There isn't a lore that doesn't exist around Mt. Olympus, and nobody is safe from the wrath of the gods who watch.
My only goal: Beat him at his own game and escape. His: Save the world, by way of me.
Thousands of names have been written on the ancient parchment, but it moans for one last signature.
He promised he would help me find my brother. He lied.
I don't know why I immediately trusted Cyrus. He was stunningly gorgeous, nice, and so accommodating that maybe I felt too safe—maybe that was the first red flag. The second was that he always said my missing twin was fine, that he'd come back when the internship was supposed to start again. Looks are deceiving. And I forgot..
Now I'm completely screwed. I'm trapped here until the eclipse and the great Sun God says I'm the last sacrifice he has to make in order to ascend to Olympus. I have so many questions about the mixed mythology but what I don't have is answers.
He says I'm the last name he needs to enter on the pages of the Book of Life—a book that contains every descendent of his mortal enemy. He says he'll reward me with any immortal god for twenty-four hours. He doesn't know that my only goal is to do exactly what he does.
"When you feel lost in the dark all you need to do is look to the stars the way they look to you"
Well what can I say????..... there is a reason why Rachel is one of my all time favourites, and this book shows you why 👏👏👏👏
"Not everything you see is real, but not everything unseen is fake"
I could go on and on about how good this book is, about how much it hits you in all your feels and makes your eyes leak 🤷♀ and about how witty and amazing all the main and secondary characters are, and can I just say a Cameo by a certain character and clan had me squealing gahhh gotta love cassius, but yes I could say all this and it would be 100% true but what ill say is.....
Go in blind with no expectations, read this story and let yourself feel it ALL ,let the emotions lead you through a story that is witty, emotional and spicy 😈
Join Chleo, Cyrus and a whole lot of gods in a completely unputdownable story that you will be thinking about long after reading the last word!
"You're my only sunrise, my only sunset"
Be warned the ending is 🤯🤯, I CANNOT WAIT for the next!!!!
I'm honestly not too sure how to review this. I've had a lot going on personally whilst reading this, and as such it took me quite a while, which may be a contributing factor. There's a lot going on in this book and sometimes I felt it wasn't explained properly - we're in the world of the Dark Ones although not directly, they're mentioned as characters in the background really.
The storyline of this wasn't bad but I did unfortunately find it a little chaotic. I liked the different gods although sometimes I confused them between one another but there were some funny personalities. Cyrus was an interesting lead, I can't quite work out how I feel about him. Cleo was interesting too, but more relatable - although she is the human character of the two.
I didn't mind this book, but I didn't love it either, I have other fave RVD books. The ending was a cliff hanger though which I wasn't expecting and definitely left me intrigued and wondering what will happen next in this series.
Welp... that happened... everything is fine. I'm fine, really. Okay, I'm lying. I'm not okay! There's so much I want to say but can't. A few choice words were thought. ALOT happens! You will fall in love with characters. You will fall in love with the plot. You will love everything about Immortal Sun. A beautifully written story with pages that will consume you beginning to end. ☆☆☆☆
Cyrus is trying to save the world, by using Cleo. Cleo is trying to find her brother. There is so much that I want to say but it was spoil it and believe me, with the many twists and turns you need to feel it all. There isn't anything that I've read that is like this, the way that this author has weaved this story is absolutely brilliant, the characters, the plot, held my attention from cover to cover. there wasn't anything that I didn't love about this book and I'm already excited to see what happens next.
This is one of my favourite authors but I just couldn't get into it , it seemed disjointed and I felt I was missing something like I should of known more before I started or like I started 3rd book in , even though I've read all the Dark ones and they were excellent, I skimmed a bit as it struggled to hold my interest as I felt nothing was really happening. I will keep on reading the series to see if it picks up any and also I always love what this author puts out but it just didn't feel like RVD . I'm really sorry I wasn't feeling this one.
Immortal Sun is the first book in RVD's newest series, Dark Olympus. This is a fantasy read based on mythology set in the human realm.
As with all fantasy reads, there is character introductions and world building at the beginning. Rachel combines both Greek and Egyptian mythology in the current human world. And it creates quite an interesting world.
There is alot that goes on in this book - some interesting twists; great banter with some interesting characters. Please be warned - there is a cliffy at the end of this. And Rachel truly leaves readers hanging.
Immortal Sun is a nice start to what is looking to be an interesting fantasy series.
4.5stars- IMMORTAL SUN is the first instalment in Rachel Van Dyken’s contemporary, adult DARK OLYMPUS dark, erotic, mythology series focusing on Cleo, and Cyrus, the Sun god Ra.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Cleo and Cyrus) IMMORTAL SUN follows Cleo as she searches for her twin brother Jake, an archeologist who was last seen near Mt Olympus, Seattle, Washington but all is not as it appears to be, and Cleo will discover she and her brother are the last surviving descendants of Chaos, and her death will free our story line hero. Cyrus, the Sun god Ra, is the god of creation and light, and in order to ascend to the heavens, he is tasked with destroying the human descendants of Chaos, including the woman with whom he will fall in love but Cleo is unlike anyone he and the other gods could have ever imagined, and in this, Cleo’s death threatens the stability of all who survive.
The world building is detailed, complicated, complex and cryptic. Nothing and no one is who they appear to be. Alliances are made, line are drawn, the gods prepare for war as Cyrus goes in search of the woman who controls his heart.
The relationship between Cyrus and Cleo is unique. Cyrus owns the nightclub Styx, and Cleo is working for the man she believes can lead to her brother but Cyrus is determined to ascend to Olympus, and Cleo is the only human standing in his way. Cyrus finds himself falling for the woman he must destroy, a fall his is unable to comprehend or deny. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of powerful, questionable and charismatic gods and goddesses including the gods who are task with preparing Cleo for her death. We are introduced Tyrell, Daggon, Apep, Inti, as well as Bast, Rat , Cow and Anubis.
IMMORTAL SUN is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, mythology and lore, acceptance and love. The slow building premise is elaborate, dramatic and edgy; the characters are dynamic, hypnotic and larger than life. IMMORTAL SUN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
This was addicting! Also that cliffhanger ain’t the worst by any means but why did it have to end right when things were getting real good? 😩 Seriously tho, the last part tug at my heartstrings like all RVD’s stories does to me. Ain’t no surprise I shed a tear or two for Ra and Cleo.
The story started with Cleo going to this place where her brother was last seen/ worked at so she applied to work there too in hopes of finding his whereabouts but that’s where we meet Cyrus/ Ra and start to unravel why she came to this place in the first place.
I liked Cyrus a lot even when there were moments where he was an a-hole but that was part of his charm I guess. He just has a lot on his plate. I loved learning more about who he is and what his “mission was although it was sad at the time watching it all unfold and see how much saving humanity weighed on him especially when he formed a bond with her.
Cleo liked to live in denial which at first was understandable but then started to be a bit frustrating however the later half of the book was more of her refusing to acknowledge certain things just to preserve herself so I didn’t hold it against her especially because when all was said and done she gave in on her own terms and she gave a piece of herself in turn to Ra but also humanity in a sense. I liked them a lot and I honestly didn’t have enough of them so I hope book 2 comes soon!
The spice was spicing but it was also bittersweet. I couldn’t really enjoy it because I knew what was about to happen which shows how good RVD is because I’m pretty sure I’m not suppose to enjoy it. Don’t worry, you’ll get what I mean when you read it. It’s a happy and sad moment simultaneously.
I LOVED the other gods that are with Ra as well as his animals. I can’t wait to read more about them. Old characters appeared too which I LOVED especially Cassius because he is him. I just loved every single interaction between them all and I can’t wait for more.
IMMORTAL SUN (DARK OLYMPUS Book 1), which is available today, is the newest release for bestselling author, Rachel Van Dyken. Imagine a world where vampires, werewolves, demons, fallen angels, gods, and fae roam modern day Seattle. Cyrus, the Egyptian Sun God Ra, owned a bar in Seattle called Styx, and Cleo went to work there while searching for her missing twin brother. Cleo didn’t know she was the last living child of the god of Chaos, and that it was Cyrus’s trial to sacrifice her as he had many others so that he could eliminate Chaos once and for all. If he succeeded within 1000 years, he would earn his place among the gods on Mt Olympus. If he failed, he would be doomed to remain on earth for eternity. The problem was that Cleo was different. This book was an interesting mishmash of mythology, fantasy, and paranormal stories. Many of the immortals who were there had failed their own trials, and Cyrus didn’t want to share their fate. I really loved Cleo, who had a thirst for knowledge and an unfailing loyalty toward her twin, but Cyrus ran hot and cold. I enjoyed the witty banter between the strange group of immortals in this book, and I hope they may get their own HEA. This novel ended in a cliffhanger, and the fate of these characters hangs in the balance. I will definitely be reading book 2! If you are a reader who enjoys paranormal romance/romantasy, then you may enjoy this dark, billionaire, mythology inspired, contemporary romantic suspense novel. It was a new twist on a world where all mythologies are connected, similar to and also different from the Dark Hunters series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. The book is available in the kindleunlimited collection.
I received a free ARC of this book via Wildfire Marketing Solutions and am voluntarily writing this honest review.
Wow, I didn’t expect Immortal Sun to be the story that made me ugly cry yet it did! I literally couldn’t read the words on the page during certain scenes for all the tears. I absolutely love this new world that Rachel Van Dyken has created for us. The way she brings humans, different creatures and entities all existing together is incredible. I absolutely loved the whole storyline and I was intrigued from the very first chapter.
I adore Cyrus and Cleo. One of many highlights is the push and pull between the pair, their interactions are fabulous, and I couldn’t help but love everything about them even that darkness. I thoroughly enjoyed all the mythology and history that is shared as part of their story. The supporting characters, even though they have essential roles in Cyrus and Cleo’s story, add so much to the storyline. The plot, characters and setting are all incredible.
The second half of the book grabbed and kept my attention. I sadly found the first half to be far too slowly paced for my liking, and I struggled with it in all honesty. My perseverance certainly paid off though, and this ended up being the story to bring me to my knees emotionally. I absolutely love a good cry, and my love for and connection with Cleo and Cyrus was instrumental in releasing these strong emotions.
I cannot wait to discover what happens next in this storyline. There are links between this series and another series penned by Ms. Van Dyken - The Dark Ones, which I have only partially read many years ago that I will go back to and reread to refresh my memory before the next book releases. That’s no hardship as I absolutely love this author’s work.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is a fantasy romance that has a little of everything you can think of in the book. This is also the first book in this series. It is the story of Cleo and Cyrus. Cleo is on a mission to find her missing brother. He is an archaeologist, working for Cyrus and was last seen near Mount Olympus. However, she is in for some surprises along the way. She also had no clue that she and her brother are the last living descendants of Chaos. This is her destiny and one she was never in a million years expecting. She is also discovering the city she is in is not a "normal" one. When she meets Cyrus thought, the sparks begin to fly. I am having a hard time reviewing this book. I type something out and then have to delete it all for fear it would be a spoiler. Cleo is learning so much that she is really not sure who she can trust she is learning. However, there is a much bigger reason that she is in this city. Her destiny is certainly calling and it is destined for her to be where she is when she is. You have to read to find out what I am even talking about. This book will suck you right into this world and you will find yourself not wanting to leave. I loved reading this book and I know that you guys will too. I am not the biggest fan of fantasy romances, but I knew that I had to give this one a try. I am so glad that I did.
This book combines both Greek and Egyptian mythology in the current human world.
Cleo is trying to find her twin brother, Jake who has gone missing near Mt. Olympus, WA. She goes to the last location he was doing an archeological dig at. But there is no sign of him, he disappeared down a cave, but, no one has seen him since. Cleo doesn't know but her and Jake are the last descendants of the god Chaos. Cleo doesn't realize that those who surround her are actually gods from the ancient Greek and Egyptian worlds that she and her twin learned about when they were younger.
Cleo gets a "job" at a bar she thinks, in Washington, but, it's owned by Cyrus. Who is actually Cyrus, the Sun god Ra, is the god of creation and light, and in order to ascend to the heavens, he is tasked with destroying the human descendants of Chaos. Cyrus has been around humans for so long he is immune to them it seems like. Cleo is different though. He senses something in Cleo that he's never found in another human. Cleo is unlike anyone he and the other gods could have ever imagined. If Cleo is to die, her death threatens the stability of all who survive.
Cyrus doesn't want to like Cleo, but, maybe she's the one who can warm his heart and calm his storm? Would he need to kill her to satisfy the killing of Chaos's descendants?
I did receive a free ARC Book Copy. I am freely leaving an honest review.
This is hands down the best book I've read this year thus far. It was also my first by Rachel Van Dyken. As I type this, I continue to be blown away by the complexity and brilliance of what I just read. I'm still processing my feelings and the impact of the story.
As I started this book, I was a bit overwhelmed by the avalanche of information, which is not uncommon with a Fantasy series. There are a lot of characters and a new world to familiarize yourself with, but I'm thankful the author did not rush this part. I did occasionally feel as though I was missing something or maybe there was a previous book or introduction I missed, but no. However, around 35% into the story I settled in and could not get enough! The forbidden aspect, the angst and conflict of the ultimate decision, and the struggle between right and wrong kept me transfixed and yearning for a solution for Cleo and Cyrus. My heart broke for the characters as their pain grew and their reality was accepted. Their unconditional love and sacrifices moved me to tears. I was NOT expecting that ending though! I still have whiplash!
I would love to read stories for each of the characters so I could better understand their journeys, challenges, and decisions. I still have so many questions. But for now, I will now anxiously await the next installment in the series!
The first in a new series called Dark Olympus, this story follows Cleo as she searches for her brother who disappeared while working on a weird island in the Puget Sound that has Egyptian antiquities on it. There’s all these interesting characters like Cyrus (her brother’s former boss and now her new boss), Anubis, and others who claim they are deities of old mythos. Cleo doesn’t realize that she is the last sacrifice for Cyrus to ascend to rule Mount Olympus, so when emotions and feelings start surfacing between them, is all hell going to break loose?
Read this for: - Greek, Roman, Egyptian myth blending - FMC who is a little chaotic - PNW setting - found family of deities - weird little town - quick timeline - dual POVs
My thoughts: I enjoyed this book, it took a little while for me to get into it, but that’s because I was reading it before bed and kept falling asleep (totally a me thing), but once I got to 25% in, I was invested and read 50% of the book in a single sitting, before finishing the rest the next morning. Cleo and Cyrus are interesting characters and I liked getting both perspectives to understand their individual motivations and the questioning that arose between them when feelings developed.
Recommend for those who like loose modern takes on myths and who want to see more Egyptian myths in books.
Let me start by saying I am not a fantasy reader. It’s not a genre that I read often. This book was recommended so I decided to give it a shot. It’s hard for me to say too much without giving things away so I’m going to bullet my feelings/thoughts
1. The book is very well written 2. There is a lot to it so the beginning is a bit slow IMO 3. It’s a mythology retelling, but it mixes several types (Egyptian mostly, Greek, a little christian) 4. It takes a bit to get into it, you really have to jump in with both feet and keep reading 5. It ends on a cliffhanger, you’ve been warned 6. There are things that seem important but aren’t, and things that are important but you might miss 7. I would give this book a shot, but if you aren’t a fantasy person, you might have mixed feelings. 8. I am not sure if I plan to read book two or not but not because I didn’t like the book, more because I am not sure if I was connected enough to the characters to be invested.
Overall, if you are a fantasy girl who likes mythology, this is a book you should read, if you don’t like a slow burn or you aren’t open to just reading and seeing where a story goes, it’s probably not for you.
I absolutely love mythology books and reimagining of mythology. This book did not disappoint. Though the beginning was a bit rough for me, this pulled through big time and I literally CAN’T wait for the next installment! Yes, this is a cliffhanger.
Cleo is looking for her brother, her twin. She heads to the last place he was know to have been. And luckily enough, his employer is glad to hire her and help her search for him. Not suspicious at all. Cleo is immediately drawn to her new employer, Cyrus.
Cyrus is the Immortal God Ra (the sun). And his trial, to get back to ruling on Olympus and to save humanity, is simple really kill (sacrifice) every last child of Chaos. Its been centuries, and Cleo is the last, only this time it feels different.
This was definitely a jump right into it, fast-paced by the end, type of book. I loved Cleo’s strength and courage. She worked so hard at showing Cyrus his human side. And Cyrus is so resolute in saving humanity but now he is starting to question if it is even worth it. I couldn’t put this book down and I will be impatiently awaiting the second. One-click now you will not de disappointed.
Seems like I need to make a disclaimer here. I’m not much of a fan of romantasy. Fantasy isn’t real life. It takes us further away from reality. Clearly the goal, but not what I prefer in my romance reading. However, this crafty storyteller might be changing my mind. She's one I trust implicitly with my romance-reading heart, and this one left me thinking, “What if?
Cyrus, our stoic, grumpy, hero is swoon-worthy, but I especially adore our heroine, Cleo. Her only goal is to find out where her brother is. And then she gets caught up with this group of…well, they appear to be gruff, hot, alphas, but there's more to them than meets the eye. They’re as eternal as time itself. And they’re trying to show Cloe the impossible is reality.
I was late to the party for The Dark Ones series, where some of these characters first appeared, and I need more. It's time to dive into that part of the back catalog while I eagerly, impatiently wait to see what happens in the rest of Cyrus and Cleo's story. Even if you’re like me and not much of a fan, give it a try. You might find yourself pleasantly surprised and falling for this world and these characters.
adventurous, emotional, tense Plot- or character-driven? A mix Strong character development? N/A Loveable characters? Yes Diverse cast of characters? Yes Flaws of characters a main focus? N/A 4.25
I enjoy reading retellings of mythology stories, and this one is no exception. Immortal Sun is Ra - the Egyptian god of the sun story. In this story, he is also known as Cyrus and the human Cleo.
Cyrus is trying to rule Olympus and get humanity back. The way to do this is to kill all of Chaos' children. It so happens that Cleo is the last living human child. She is looking for her twin brother, who has disappeared. Cleo only knows the last place he was living and working; this happens to be for Cyrus.
Cyrus and Cleo are attracted to each other when they should be enemies. Can Cyrus follow through on killing off all of Chaos' children, or will Cleo make it complicated for him? Will Cleo learn the truth about her brother's whereabouts?
This story is a fun read. It started a bit slow, but the characters are pretty entertaining.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Great world-building, Twisted, Unpredictable
Immortal Sun by Rachel Van Dyken is a gripping blend of mythology, romance, and suspense that pulls you in from the start. The story follows Cleo’s desperate search for her missing twin brother, only to uncover a destiny she never expected—one that ties her to the enigmatic and powerful Sun god, Cyrus. Their slow-burning, push-and-pull dynamic adds intensity to an already high-stakes plot filled with twists, secrets, and betrayals.
Van Dyken crafts an intricate world where gods, humans, and supernatural beings collide, keeping the reader intrigued with its layered storytelling and emotional depth. While the pacing starts slow, the second half delivers in full force, making it impossible to put down. The mythology woven throughout adds richness, and the side characters bring extra intrigue to an already compelling narrative.
With an ending that leaves you craving more, Immortal Sun is a thrilling, emotional, and addictive read. Fans of dark fantasy romance will love the chemistry, tension, and immersive worldbuilding. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next!
Immortal Sun by Rachel Van Dyken is full of twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat as I wondered how things would unfold.
Cleo is searching for her twin brother, Jake, who is missing. He has been working for Cyrus and as Cleo learns more about the city where her brother has been, she realizes it is anything but normal. Everything she is seeing and learning is leaving her unsure who is trustworthy. What Cleo doesn't realize is there is a bigger reason for her presence and it is very much destined.
If I'm honest these types of books are not normally my first choice, however I really enjoyed the previous series by RVD that was set in this type of world, The Dark Ones. In my opinion, this one was very difficult to get into as I felt like there were so many characters and I was trying to make sense of where everyone belonged. Once I finally got a ways into it, things settled and it became a lot easier to digest. Overall, I did enjoy it.
**I read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
When I first got this book I sat on it awhile because I knew that within its pages I was going to find a story that was going to rip my heart to shreds and I was not wrong. This Dark retelling of the Gods on Olympus and Egyptian lore is one that has my heart in a vise. Although I’m now beating myself up for taking so long to read because it’s a story that captures you from the very start and becomes an obsession the further you read.
This story weaves the most beautiful tale of love, sacrifice and the healing that comes when you finally find your other half.
It does end in a cliff hanger and though I’m dying for the next book I do need time to recover because that ending..INTENSE! I can’t wait to see the war that will Rage in the next book because Cyrus is a man on a mission and love is his fuel!
This book is set apart from the Dark Ones series but you do hey graced with some familiar faces if you read and loved those books. I can tell this is just the very start of another series that is going to blow any other books away!!
3.5 This is book one in this authors New series and is a retelling

Cleo is searching for her twin who is missing and was working for Cyrus. She also finds out they are the last living descendants of Chaos and she had no clue that this was her destiny too. Being in the city where her brother last was has her learning so much and she's definitely seeing things for what they are and everything is definitely not as it seems. Cyrus is the Immortal God. He has a hidden agenda and a mission to complete.
The way this author created this world is awesome and this story will at times pull on your heart strings. The characters have great chemistry and This story has some twists to watch out for. This storyline flows throughout and is full of secrets, lies, suspense, control, power and much more and ends on a cliffhanger that will have you screaming for more.
I did feel at times the story did slow right down and was a little to slow to hold my attention at first but it does pick up speed.
I have read several books by this author. PNR and Fantasy are my go to reads. This one sounded interesting to me. There was some unique world building. Cyrus is a god trying to get back to Mt Olympus and Cleo is looking for her brother so she heads to his last known address and meets not only Cyrus but all the other lesser gods and fallen gods that live there.
That is about the gist of what I understood, I started reading and felt like I was missing some information. I was re-reading parts. I could not get the attraction between Cyrus and Cleo. It was not chemistry to see them argue back and forth with each other.
There is a lot of history thrown in and I think it muddy the waters a bit. The book did not keep my interest for very long. I did muddle through and finally at about 75%, I gave up.
I do love this author's works. This one is not a favorite. I don't think I will read any more int he series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Things started off a little rocky for me I am a mood reader and I just had a hard time finding a groove with this one. But once I did I couldn't put it down. Cyrus and Cleo boss and employee, not friends. Cyrus and Cleo adversaries, not necessarily enemies. (At least in my opinion you can decide for yourself.) Cyrus and Cleo immortal and human, or just a man and a woman. Cyrus and Cleo The Sun and the sacrifice, or the creator and his savior. This is a complicated tale of good versus evil, of finding one's purpose in life and knowing that purpose and destiny can change. This world moves in many directions so be prepared this isn't one genre it's all the genres. If you love mythology just know it won't be just one region's deities, it will be many. It's smart, it's playful, it's dark, there is mystery, danger, death, other worldly creatures and right before you reach the cliff we have descended into the underworld. Can't wait for book two. I have voluntarily left this review.
I love Rachel Van Dyken’s books because her range in writing is so vast. I’ve read most of her books ranging from Mafia to troubled rock star with found family and vampires to a crazy love story with a guest starring goat. I know I’m guaranteed a good time and good read. I received this ARC to provide an open, unsolicited review.
I’m going to say that I was a little bit confused and overwhelmed with all the names of the immortals/people introduced because I didn’t know who would later on be important. I really did like the relationship between Cyrus and Cleo. I like the pull they have towards one another and can just feel their emotions.
I don’t want to give any spoilers but all I can say is that this books will take you for a ride and you’re going to love it! I would recommend this book especially if you have read her previous “Dark Ones series but it’s not a prerequisite or need. I can’t wait to see where the rest of the series takes us!
Immortal Sun is a new fantasy romance from one of my autobuy authors-Rachel Van Dyken. I have been waiting for this book!!
Immortal Sun creates a whole new world for readers with legends and magics that blend with reality. Its a little bit of Greek lore mixed with Egyptian lore set in Washington. Cyrus is the Sun God and is working to complete his destiny. In order to do so, he needs Cleo. Cleo is on her own mission to find her twin brother who seems to have gone missing. His boss-Cyrus! It is difficult at times to like Cyrus because he is kind of a narcissistic jerk. His goal is oddly destruction of people (he is the god of creation....). This pits Cyrus and Cleo at odds, so we certainly have a bit of suspense happening!
I really enjoyed this book! The writing was great, the blend of myth and reality was interesting, and the characters were GREAT! I do love a grumpy/sunshine vibe, and Cyrus and Cleo have that going. I am a bit taken aback at the ending though...
Immortal Sun is completely different to RVD’s usual genres of writing and it’s definitely got me intrigued.
The story of Cyrus and Cleo is steeped in Egyptian and Sumatran lore with immortal gods, vampires, fae all mixed together.
Cleo goes to work for Cyrus after he promised to help her find her missing brother who supposedly was on an archeological dig and disappeared. When she gets there it’s not what she expected at all.
I enjoyed the banter between all the characters and that Cleo was different to all the others that came before her. She stood up for herself and gave as good as she got. Cyrus is basically a bully who has one purpose and that’s to win his trial so he can ascend to Mt Olympus.
This book wasn’t exactly easy to follow at first but by the end I couldn’t stop reading and needed to know what happened. I definitely wasn’t expecting the cliffhanger or the massive plot twist but now I can’t wait to read the next book.
Ms. Van Dyken creates a new and unique world in Immortal Sun. Loved the mix of humans and a variety of different creatures and entities. I liked both the Cleo and Cyrus. Cleo is looking for her brother. Who she hasn’t heard from for a few weeks. Cyrus is the owner of a nightclub. Where it just so happens to be where Cleo is starting work at. But nothing in the story is coincidence or haphazard. I loved the twists and turns. I love the mystery and intrigue going on behind both the characters. It is not a what you see is what you get. The banter, the push and pull between Cyrus and Cleo is building on something I expect to be explosive. It’s a slow burn between them. But good things come to those who are patient. And I’m expecting freaking fireworks and magic with them. I’m loving the story and I’m excited for the next book.

Main character: Cleo and Cyrus
We are introduced to a world full of myths and legends. A story of hidden mysteries and destinies.
Cleo’s twin brother is missing. He occasionally of disappears for work but this time seems a little different. She starts working for his boss and things are definitely off. She slowly gets enmeshed into a mystery and learns her true destiny.
Cyrus is the sun God. He has a mission to complete. Cleo is the last obstacle to fulfill his destiny. It was easy to lure her and get things in place, but things aren’t as easy as they look.
The story is simple yet complicated. Well written, the twist and turns keep you emotionally invested.
