Peep: A Dark MM Romance

Rate this book
Jahmar:
He's a terrible hunter, silently stalking but too afraid to pounce. There’s nothing I’d like more than for him to sink his claws into me. But Anders is practically a lion cub. He's as cute as a button and a bit of a hot mess–my kryptonite. I know he’s watching, and sometimes I put on a show. As much as I’m enjoying this game of cat and mouse, I have secrets, and his greedy little eyes have seen too much.

Anders:
I am not a stalker. Well, not a sinister one. I merely observe my surroundings and the individuals in them. Stalkers are vicious and cruel. They’re obsessed. I am not. I'd never hurt Jahmar; it's a line I wouldn't cross. But he knows I’m watching and lures me in like prey. Even knowing what he’s capable of, I can’t seem to look away.

*Peep contains adult content and deals with dark themes. Please check my website for a list of content and trigger warnings. These can also be found at the start of the book.

He’s up to something. I can feel it in the marrow of my bones, and even if he isn’t, he’d be so pretty to watch and I do love to watch.

Lucky for him, Jahmar likes to be watched.
Peep was a fun & smutty romance with dark themes. A voyeur/stalker and a handsome doctor with a sinister secret.
Okay, I said fun and I swear I enjoyed it despite my complaining that you’ll see in a sec, but maybe fun is not the right word.
Spoilers ahead.

No fucking way. Anders, who just told me to keep it ‘professional, is a pervert and potentially stalking me. That makes me smile more than it should. Shit, I think I’m swooning.

These two were unhinged and weirdly perfect for each other. The romance was very sexy and surprisingly sweet, given the plot setup. And that juxtaposition kind of threw me honestly, feeling that jarring disconnect between the romantic moments and the somewhat gory & horrific storyline. It felt like reading two separate stories.

“I’m sick of watching, Anders growls. “Come and get me then, little lion.

To no one’s surprise, I really enjoyed the smut. The voyeurism, the toys, Anders toppy energy it was very very hot.
EXCEPT for one scene that just didn’t need to be, why the f (spoilers) (I don’t know why I’m saying it again, they’re under a spoiler tag lol, today is gonna be a chaotic day)

So apart from that, the romance and the spice mostly worked for me.
There were some elements of the story that felt a little off though, that could use some tweaking, maybe more depth. I also don’t know if I liked how the heavy themes were handled, and the plot felt a bit too unrealistic, especially the ending.

We’re not perfect; if anything, we’re a train wreck in the making, but there’s no one else I’d rather wreak havoc with.

Since my rating system is a mystery even to me, this was still a solid entertaining read despite all my ramblings and I enjoy this author’s writing style. Bonus points for the kinks.

I’m going to hell, he purrs, eyes hooded, flashing a dangerous smile. “That’s fine, as long as you take me with you. I wink.

4/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Content Warnings for book: Stalking, violence, forced drug use, nonconsensual medical surgeries, kidnapping, strangulation, discussion of rape, incest, and sexual assault, detailed flashback to sexual assault of an MC, vomiting

Kink: Voyeurism, sex toys, D/s vibes, JOI, phone sex, dimple kink, med-kink

I was given an ARC, and this is my honest review.

I was a bit of a clown and didn’t realize beforehand this had my one thing I usually avoid as a CW but 🤡 that was on me. I persevered and perhaps just like when I made myself like horror movies I can learn to get past this too.

Anyway, let’s talk about Peep!

Femi (a side character) as they state in their content note, was written using Jamaican Patois. The author’s father is Jamaican (and speaks this language), and I’m going to assume that the author also identified as Jamaican even if they don’t speak that language (?). Anyway, so that’s that as far as the context of representation being written. I’m not Jamaican or black, so I can’t attest to what is “authentic.

Femi, Sage, and Cameron are all great side characters. They felt like they had unique personalities and of course, general representation across the board. Sage’s non-binary identity was handled well. I really want to read a novella of Sage/Cameron tbh. Love me a himbo.

Anders and Jahmar were interesting. I enjoyed that Anders was a little off, a little obsessive, a little too interested. Throwing him in with Jahmar who already decided Anders was his, we have that “I can make him worse energy even if it was never intended on his end. I don’t want to spoil much, but I think some things were a little too easy like if Anders is an accomplished stalker and such, he got caught pretty fast. Jahmar’s own secret is interesting, a little twisted but ultimately appeals to a moral fantasy for some people. This isn’t the place to discuss the ethics or philosophy around the idea, though, so I’ll leave it at that.

The biggest reveal? Good lord. I won’t say anything, just good lord. I felt awful for everyone involved.

In terms of their actual relationship once things settle - it’s sweet. We have some hot scenes, cute cuddling, and the snark between the two that is nice. I was rooting for their issues to be smoothed out.

Writing wise, I love me some metaphors using horror tones and vibes. Yes, cannibalism as a metaphor for love is my fave. The writing was well done, I didn’t notice any glaring errors.

Overall, I think this is a good read! It’s a dark romance but it’s not that intensely “dark between the MCs. They’re morally grey but have some depth to them.

I decided to dive into this story mainly because I knew I was going to have a great time. And I did!

It's a quick read. The plot is completely ridiculous, and yet it strangely worked, because I couldn't put this book down. Basically, Anders, who's a peeping Tom, starts to watch and stalk Jahmar because he's very suspicious of him. The thing is Anders found him quite interesting too. Weird and sexy shenanigans ensue.

Jahmar and Anders are an atypical and crazy couple. Everything I love! They were cute, and the spice between them was hot too.

However, even though the author managed to captivate me until the end (and let's be honest, the humor was well done), a few things bothered me. By the end, I had mixed feelings. So much happened in such a short frame of time, I think I would have preferred to read the development of their relationship with intimate scenes that hold important meaning, rather than stolen moments barely condensed in several lines. It seemed that the two protagonists' relationship was based on sex...rather than feelings or trust.

Anders is the character I found the most ambiguous. I didn't connect with him as much as I did with Jahmar. From one chapter to the next, I felt like I was following two different characters. Some of his actions were touchy. I'm not talking about the stalking. That was probably one of the most interesting things he did (I'm sorry). A shame because he had the potential to be such a cool character, but he wasn't fleshed out enough, in my opinion.

I also didn't like his reaction to the big reveal (for the record, I guessed the plot twist...). Even though he blamed himself, and tried to make amends, I didn't like the way he approached things. At the end, it was mainly Jahmar who apologized. I'm not saying Jahmar wasn't in the wrong either (both were in the wrong), but I don't know.

Jahmar was very funny and entertaining, though. Again, I think his personality and behavior could have been better developed, but I liked him a lot!

The dynamic between the main characters is one of my favorites: smaller/younger top and bigger/older bottom. There, I said it. I'll never stop shouting that in my reviews. I love when authors break stereotypes, which I appreciated for this story.

Peep was my first read by Rianne Elizabeth. I really liked her writing, and in general, her characters. I'm curious to find out what the author will write next.

Somehow the first book I’ve read in March and man, I love these two deranged cuties 🥰 idk if I can even describe how intrigued I was with this story, I love when there’s a sizzling connection from the beginning. And this book was funnyyyy, like I had so much fun reading even while I’ve been slumping.

Anders is prickly, distrustful and somehow a stalker? The irony am I right? 😂 I love a prickly bby that only softens for his partner and this was the perfect character to do the job, he tried fighting it at like 10% effort because he was totally gone for Jahmar from page one. The depth of his character was shown in how understanding he was of Jahmar’s…extracurricular endeavors and the meaningful relationships he had with his family and friends. I loved Sage and Cameron, they were actually the perfect besties 👯 Femi is amazing and the star of the book tbh 🥰

I was in love with Jahmar from the start! What a cheeky lil brat with a heart of gold 🥹😏 I loved being inside his chaotic delulu brain. He was more than just chaos though, what he went through was horrible and I cheered on every moment of his delicious revenge. Even though he was a lil cray he was my lil bby 🥰

This was such a fun wacky story, I had a great time reading. The story was really interesting and different from the start and that plot twist? Damn I did not see that coming 🤯🤯 Just go read it!! 😛

TW - stalking, hidden cameras, invasion of privacy, forced drug use (between the MMCs), physical violence, kidnapping, strangulation, illegal / forced medical surgeries incl castration, mild gore, flashback / mentions of rape and sexual violence (stories recounted from the MC and scs incl broken bones, familial assailants, victim shaming, power imbalance, workplace), hospitalised sc (lung transplant), parental death (mentioned, heart attack), sex in the presence of an unconscious person, infidelity (scs), breaking and entering, alcohol consumption, weed (sc, mentioned), panic attack, migraine, domestic violence (scs, mentioned briefly), sc with cystic fibrosis, parental abandonment (mentioned), vomit

CW - exhibitionism, voyeurism, toys, cum play, light D/s, public play, spanking, very light degradation, edging, felching

Tropes - obsessed, jealousy, vigilante doctor, dark, grumpy x sunshine

Representation - Black MMC, Jamaican rep (sc), MM, queer rep, NB sc

Argh, this was really cute!

Anders (MMC) works in an apartment building where Jahmar (MMC) lives. Jahmar is obsessed with his little lion and, while Anders tries to hide it, he feels the same way. So much so that he puts a secret camera in Jahmar’s ceiling pointing directly at his bed 🤪

They both have secrets and both have to come to terms with each other’s extracurriculars but some things (invasion of privacy) are easier to accept than others (vigilante castration).

Rianne is a new to me author and I added Peep to my tbr solely based on the cover but then I saw the tropes and was locked in. Glad I picked this up, I had a great time reading it.

"Peep" was such a fun and steamy read, but with a little bit of a dark twist that I loved. The grumpy/sunshine pairing in this book? Absolutely perfect! These two characters, despite their differences, just fit. It's like they were made for each other, even if they don't always realize it right away. They're definitely a match made in heaven, even if their journey to get there is a little... unconventional. 💀

Yeah, the MCs are a bit morally grey, so if you like your heroes squeaky clean, maybe this isn't for you. But if you're into a hot romance, a little bit intense, and where you can totally see how these two broken people somehow complete each other, then you have to read this. 🖤

Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a steamy and slightly dark romance where you'll be rooting for these two to find their happy ending (because you just know they're meant to be!). Anders has voyeurism kink and Jahmar has exhibitionism kink. Plus, they're so freaking into each other, they're willing to do anything for one another. If that's not a match made in heaven, then I don't know what is. 🤷🏻‍♀

P.S. It's called a Dark Romance for a reason. Like it's literally on the cover of the book. Check the CW/TW before diving in or even check other readers' reviews first. Don't just jump in and then whine about it being true to its claim. Ugh! 🙄

These two! THESE TWO!!! Cuteness overload!

I loved how calm the story was at the beginning and how it gradually became very steamy, twisted and eventually dark.

Trigger Warnings:

Plot: 5/5
POV: 2

Main Characters:
5/5 Anders Erickson, petnames: Little Lion, Sweetheart, Little brat, 28yo, cis-man, he/him, works at Emerald Building as a concierge (where Jahmar lives), has freckles, is a grumpy pants, very observant, a smartass, always blushing (only bc of Jahmar’s sass), has an unpredictable temperament.
And as Jahmar perfectly describes him: “Underneath that grumpy little frown and air of indifference, there’s a sweet, fluffy marshmallow just waiting to be chomped on.

5/5 - Jahmar Walker, nickname: Jay, ~ ~ 28yo, cis-man, he/him, works at the hospital as a nurse, always has a big smile on, charms your pants off, has a dark secret, hides beneath a mask, has a guiche piercing and an addiction to smutty vampire books. As Anders says: has a “…chirpy disposition and shameless flirting.

Anders always blushing because of Jahmar’s relentless teasing was adorable. They have the best chemistry ever, truly "a match made in heaven" as Jay says.

I wasn’t expecting to laugh so much while reading this book. Anders' crankiness and his terrible stalking skills, paired with Jay’s sassiness, were hilarious.

This book was super funny, cute, dark, packed with mystery, secrets, and MAJOR twists. I devoured it!

One of the things I loved most was the cat-and-mouse game they were playing.
Jay is the sweetest, persistent in conquering his little lion’s heart. Like me, he's an attention whore, so Anders peeping on him was a dream come true.
The peeping fool was very reluctant to give in, but in the end, he couldn’t fight it.

I love these two so much. After everything they’ve been through, I just want to give them a big hug. This story feels so original. It's incredibly kinky, so prepare yourself.
Ugh, I loved every minute!
Very well-written. I’ll definitely come back for more from this author.

Peep is a standalone novel from author Rianne Elizabeth. Here’s what you can expect from Jahmar and Anders:

📷 MM dark romance
📷 First person dual point of view
📷 Guaranteed happily ever after
📷 Questionable doctor
📷 Voyeur/exhibitionist
📷 Grumpy/sunshine
📷 Hidden cameras
📷 Morally grey main characters
📷 Vigilante justice
📷 Toys galore

As always, ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings and triggers may be incomplete. Please take care of yourself while reading.

If I let my guard down with him, even just once, he’d eat me alive. Skin, bones, and all, leaving nothing but scraps. Yet, as worrisome as that may seem, I can’t help wanting to be his favourite snack.

Rianne has outdone herself with this dark romance! From the dark yet humorous story to the plot twist to the gorgeous cover, this book was, without a doubt, a five-star read for me. After reading the blurb, I wasn’t sure what to expect with main characters Jahmar and Anders. They’re both described as morally grey characters. Jahmar is a “questionable doctor and Anders is a possible stalker (although he doesn’t love that description, he just likes to observe). I ended up loving both of them by the end of the story! Although they are morally grey, they were written in a way that endears them to readers. I know that Jahmar, in particular, will have lots of new fans when this book is fully released. When we learn the motivations behind his actions, a lot of pieces of the story fall into place. I love his sunshiney disposition, and he’s definitely a little bit unhinged, but I think it only makes me love him more.

Anders is Jahmar’s grumpy opposite. He’s very closed off at first, but he can’t seem to stay away from Jahmar. He thinks there’s something lurking below the doctor’s charming personality (and, well, he’s not wrong) and he just wants to watch him. I had such a blast getting to know these two and watch as their unconventional relationship developed. Although this book definitely has many dark themes (always review your content and trigger warnings), I found the humour and snark that Rianne infused into it balanced the story out nicely. Anders and Jahmar were truly characters that I’ve never read before, and overall the book was a very refreshing take on some classic and well-loved tropes. There’s also a small element of suspense to the story, and a plot twist that was really fun to try and guess. There is a small third-act “breakup, but it’s resolved quite quickly and worked very well with the conflict thrown at Anders and Jahmar. And the spice in this book. Phew, it was spicy and I loved every minute of it. Anders and Jahmar’s dynamics and natures worked so well together, and the way they engaged with toys and different aspects of voyeurism/exhibition kink was just perfect for them.
He fulfills me in every way possible. Anders fills my heart and my hole like nothing else. He’s it for me.

I highly recommend this book, and it’s a great standalone romance with elements of dark storylines and balancing humour. I enjoyed the side characters, and the plot was engaging and kept me guessing. You don’t want to miss this one!

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I feel like I have waited forever to read Anders and Jahmar’s story, and now that it’s finally here, it was everything I never knew I needed! They’re were so much fun, had me laughing my 🍑 off, and the spice? Well it was absolutely hot as heck. Delicious. So filthy.

Anders knows something isn’t right with one of the residents at the Emerald Building where he is a concierge. He knows Jay is a shameless flirt, and he has zero boundaries, (especially when it comes to Anders dimple 😂) and that he has some secrets. Anders is determined to get to the bottom of all of it.

Anders likes to watch. He’s not a stalker or anything.. definitely not. No. He just has a *slight* voyeurism kink, and Jay? Well he’s an exhibitionist. Match made in kinky heaven.

These two get hot and heavy really quickly, and Jahmar is happy to finally have his man in his bed and in his arms. But if he finds out he isn’t who Anders thinks he is, will he lose it all forever?

Jahmar is a vigilante for people who need someone to advocate for them and serve justice to those who deserve it. He’s doing a public service. And he just has a couple jobs left until he can hang up his scalpel forever.

I loved watching these two explore new kinks (THAT DAMN DIMPLE! I LOVE !), I loved watching them fall in love, and I loved watching them have FUN together. They really became one of my favorite couples that I’ve read in a long time. Their side characters in this book were so fun too. They’re really added to the story and to this relationship in such an easy, fun way.

I can’t wait to read more from Rianne, and I’m going to need ALL the spicy art copies (if there are some) because OH. MY. GOD. They were spicy. We’re talking like SO MANY jock straps, and 💦 in places there should never be 💦 and fun with toys and reflections. Oh. And saunas. Good times 😉

Thank you so much GRR for the arc!

This was a dark, but humorous MM read that was quite enjoyable.
If you know the premise, you will have a pretty good idea of the fun and absurdity of the plot.

A surgeon who cuts up rapists and a stalker who installs a secret camera in his obsession's bedroom?
Jahmar and Anders are messed up people, but they fit together perfectly.
Isn't that what we all hope for? Someone to see us for how we are and love us despite that? 😆
There's also a nice dash of humor in it, keeping the read fairly light. Obviously don't give it a go if you're squeamish, but there isn't much gore involved.

I liked the story, the two had an instant connection, and Anders was such an enjoyable little grump. I wish they had more romance though, besides just sex.
The read went by quickly, and I feel like so much was squeezed into a story that was just 260 pages. The pace was good and it didn't overstay its welcome.

ARC review

I loved this book. The whole voyeur thing was so HOT.
I loved Jahmar, he was so sweet and so vulnerable. After what happened, he turned it into an outlet and offer other people the change to exorcize their demons.
Anders was a peep and they both got off on it. He was happy in the life he lived but Jahmar just completed it and made it whole.
They both loved each other so much that they would do whatever it took to not lose the other

"Hopefully."

Gahhhh!!!! I freaking loved this book! Not what I was expecting at all! Jay is a vigilante doctor, with a past that drives what he does! And Anders is an adorable peeping Tom 😂 and they make the best couple! And the spice in this book 🥵 holy hell hot! Jay is a Shameless flirt!

The whole story flowed beautifully and was engaging the entire way through! I couldn't put it down! I really wish I could read it again for the first time!

Interesting little book about a doctor and a guy who works in his apartment building. Stalker, voyer/exhibitionist, grumpy/sunshine themes. Had a few cringe moments, but overall a cute book. Jahmar and Anders really are adorable and perfect for each other. Enough suspense to keep you interest, decent spice, and good storyline. Little predictable but despite that was enjoyable. You won't be disappointed reading it.

I loved it!

Anders is honestly the cutest little perv ever. He’s a full-on peeping Tom and it’s hilarious. Good thing Jahmar loves being watched. But he has his own dark secret and if their relationship is going to work, Anders has to accept it.

This was such a fun dark romance! The characters are adorable, the story moves fast and it’s super entertaining. If you like your dark romance with a bit of humour and a lot of spice, you’ll probably enjoy Peep.

Such A Hilariously Dark Romance 😈

I've been going through some personal stuff and this was the BEST book to help take my mind off of things. Isn't that the greatest thing any book or author can do and bring us? 😘

This was my first read by Rianne and I'm so happy I chose to do so because it was 🔥🔥💥🥵😈. Devilishly amazing. Oof.. I love some morally grey (if I'm being real I also like some dark) characters and this hit that spot so well 👏.

Jahmar (Jay) and his little lion (Anders) were absolute perfection for one another. I loved how all their ragged edges came together so perfectly, and the Voyeurism 🫠 holy, I LOVED every scene together but the ones where Anders watches Jay are sooooo deliciously amazing 😍.

This entire book had to me in a chokehold, and that's symbolism right there since both Jay and Anders had a chokehold on one another 😈.

Even with the amazing spice, the plot was also so very well done. It had literally gasping at points (iykyk 👀🫣), laughing along with their antics and the romance had me swooning 🥹. At the end of the day, this is a love story, and the way Jay brings a softer side to Anders and in return Anders gives Jay a safe space, it's so beautiful 💜.

That being said, please mind your triggers because there is some heavy content in this book and as always, your mental health is important!

You definitely don't want to miss this book when it comes out tomorrow! Trust me, I wish I could read it along with everyone again for the first time 🥰😈🔥.

"Are you sure you won't get bored? Forever's a long time."
"Forever isn't long enough."
"Forever it is then. Because for you, I'll never stop putting on a show."

God, how I love them. I'm in love with them. Seriously.

These two are absolutely PERFECT for each other. An exhibitionist and a voyeur? Well, that's a match made in heaven, or h3ll, whatever works for you.

Anders is grumpy, always frowning, basically the definition of a bad mood... except... well, except for the fact that he's a lil marshmallow who just needs lots of love and attention. Attention that he gets from Jahmar, in spades.

Jahmar is a doctor. He is always joking, always wearing a smile on his handsome face, always joking and flirting with our lil cactus, Anders. But... what does he hide under all that cheerful exterior?

That's for you to discover.

Their story starts in an unconventional way, h3ll, it's unconventional through and through, but d*mn if it's not simply amazing.

I had so much fun reading this book. I laughed out loud so many times it was like I was at the best comedy show, BUT... it's dark. Don't let yourself get distracted by the fun and all the HaHaHa going around. It has sensitive topics, a dark theme, and the TW should definitely be checked and taken seriously.

It was my first Rianne Elizabeth book, it will definitely not be my last.

Ah, another thing that I loved, the fact that set in the UK, we have Queens English. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THAT. OMG, AND THE BRIT JOKES... YEAH, this made the experie of reading this book 100x better for me.

10/10, highly recommend.

What the hell did I just read? No,seriously what did I just read? Because what was this?
Ten percent into the book, I knew it was going to give me the ick. I kept thinking Authors need to understand that dark romance needs a plot. There should be a story. The way they described Jamal killing people made it sound intense, like something truly horrifying. But for what? Just for him to be removing their balls 😏The writing made it seem so dramatic, but in the end, that’s all he was doing?

And then there’s Anders. The push and pull, Not sexy. Not even a little. You cannot put a camera in someone’s house, invade their privacy and then do the whole stay away from me act. What even was that And don’t get me started on the fact that these two ended up together. Jamal apologizing for almost killing Anders brother was wild like, are we forgetting that he’s the victim here, The way this book tried to justify things was a mess. An absolute mess.

Anders beating Jamal for drugging him? I mean he only drugged him. If anything, he should have done more cut off his hand or something. Because what was that? Does he think cutting off his brother was enough That’s some crazy logic.

And to anyone saying, Oh, but if Anders had reported it, Jamal would have gone to prison there were so many other ways the author could have handled this. And honestly, the book didn’t even need a happy ending.

I can’t give this more than one star. If zero stars were an option, that’s what it would get. But since ŷ doesn’t allow that, I guess it’s a one. Crazy.

first things first: reading the blurb, i was sort of under the impression we were going to get a cat & mouse i know he’s watching but guess what so am i stalker type vibe. instead we got a peeping tom [anders] who’s latest subject [jahmar] didn’t mind being watched & put on a show for him instead, all while keeping a secret of his own.

overall, i did enjoy this book because we sort of hit the ground running meeting anders & jahmar & the shenanigans they get into. it was also slightly comedic for the darker themes that were displayed throughout the story, and there’s enough suspense to keep you guessing & reading to see what happens next.

the only thing is i wish anders wasn’t so hot & cold in the beginning. he was snapping at jahmar because he was on edge about the camera. like babe if you’re gonna hide the cameras all over the building you gotta have a cooler head about it, yeah? lol.

also, i don’t think the bad guy got enough of his just due buuut i guess i can let it go for the sake of anders & jahmar.

would recommend. [and if rianne ever feels like writing a cam & sage novella sign me up 🙂]

thank you to grr for the copy!

4/5 stars 3.5/5 spice

This book has some dark undertones but I think there was more humour in it. Jay is a boisterous character who loves to get Anders riled up. He’s infatuated with him and plans to make a move once he finishes his ‘personal errands. However, once he discovers that Anders is just as into him to the point of installing a hidden camera in his bedroom, he decided to show and involve Anders into his ‘personal errands.

Anders is in for the shock of his life once he’s informed about who Jay really is. Only what he learns leads him to like Jay more than he already does. Anders voyeuristic nature fits perfectly in with Jay’s exhibitionism. Where Anders is a little grouchy, Jay is the sunshine putting a smile on his face. I loved their back and forth and how Jay had finally found someone he could trust with his mind and body.

If you love slightly dark, humorous MM story where the MMC gets off on putting a show for the man who installed a hidden camera in his bedroom, this is definitely the book for you.

Well this was disappointing. I feel like I’ve been sold a bill of goods.

I was promised a dark romance and this was sunshine-y yellow with only a hint of a cloud showing up for like 5 seconds.
This was nowhere in the vicinity of a dark romance mainly because it wasn’t even vaguely dark and the romance fell flat.

What would have been the “dark part of the story had absolutely no impact because there were no details, no hunting, no calculations, no fear, no angst. Everything was stated matter of factly and was given approximately 2 sentences and then was shoved a side for some cringey or repetitive interaction.

I didn’t like the character dynamics.

Anders is written weird and his motivations and reactions don’t make much sense. I kind of hated him and he annoyed me the entire book.

The secondary characters added absolutely nothing to the story

Lastly, I’m not okay with Jahmar, the victim, not being believed and then he is the FIRST one having to apologize! Anders throughout the whole situation centered himself and had the audacity to be pissed off😡 Actually, I don’t think Anders ever properly apologized TO Jahmar(I started skimming at this point so I might have missed it)

Oof, this book is utterly ridiculous but like, I’m kinda here for it? 😂

It’s giving will they, won’t they but also insta-lust on that heats up within a few chapters. It’s fun, it’s filthy, there’s a little slice of dark twist in there—and honestly? These two absolute psychos deserve each other.

Jahmar is a doctor with full golden retriever energy, and he’s so down bad for the black cat of a man working the front desk of his apartment building, Anders. Polar opposites in the best way—Jahmar’s cracking jokes, trying to flirt his way into Anders heart (and pants), while Anders is just out here mentally drafting ways to crack his nose. And I ate it up. I felt it lacked a few things but I think how it was written, it was supposed to be borderline crack-ish!

And I did NOT see that plot twist coming?? Hello 👀

AND I’m with my man, Anders, is it really stalking if it’s consensual?

Thank you GRR for providing me with an ARC. This is my honest review.

”I’m sick of watching. Anders growls. “Come and get me then, little lion.

This was such a fun story. I know it’s labeled as Dark Romance but it didn’t really feel like that for me. Yes it has some dark themes like torture and SA. But there were alot of funny moments between the MC’s. I absolutely adored Anders, his nickname soothes him. He really is a little lion, all growls and showing his fangs.

”We’re probably made for each other. Pair of psychotic, perverted monsters but he’s my monster.

Anders works as a midnight security guard in an apartment building. One of the residents, Jahmar is a doctor with a big secret and Anders knows something’s off about him. As a Voyeur, Anders loves to watch people. After he installed a hidden camera in Jahmar’s bedroom, he sees something he cannot unsee. Their interaction was hilarious and honestly they are perfect for each other.
Do make sure to check the TW’s for this book.

”We’re not perfect, if anything, we’re a train wreck in the making, but there’s no one else i’d rather wreak havoc with.

2.5 rounded up for the funny parts.

So, first and foremost the blurb makes it sound a lot darker than it actually is, so that was a huge disappointment as I thought it was going to be stalker murder-y vibes.

Second, it had a lot of cringey moments so that took me out of the story a bit. I knew how this book was going to go the second a certain secondary character was revealed so that was a bummer.

I’d say this is a romance but not necessarily dark but it does have some darker elements in it.

** ARC REVIEW **

3*

I would say that this leans more toward Erotica than romance (which can sometimes be the case with dark romance). It was very spicy.

Whilst there was a definite plot considering the nature of it, I would have liked more.
I would have liked more trauma from Jay, more on the vetting process of the guys he mutilates (I'm sure he has to check somwhow) he is obviously very smart so you know a back up blan would have been nice. A collection of incriminating evidence of the guys' crimes so they couldn't turn him in. You know typical psycho shit that was missing. I feel like this fleshing out of the story would have elevated it.

As it stood, it was fun and had some good banter. Anders was a bloody, grumpy bastard in an endearing way. I feel like the relationship between his two friends was unnecessary as it meant he was often third wheeling so we didn't really get the depth of character we could have watching him have meaningful interactions with people he cares about without sex tainting the air.

I saw the plot twist coming as soon as Jay started dropping hints about what happened and why he didn't work in a permanent job. It felt very much like a third act breakup and shock factor piece and less organic. Maybe if we had more of a connection to Chris through Anders, it would be harder hitting.

So I would recommend this for a light read. I pretty much read this is one sitting so it is easy to read and immerse yourself in and is a jolly time. Nothing too serious. It's almost dark-com (rom com but make it dark lol)

Oof, these guys are definitely menaces! Femi is a saint for putting up with Anders!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! When the reveal was coming I was dreading every page turn, like made my stomach hurt to turn the page! I didn’t want it to happen. And then for unrelated reasons I ended up hospitalized and very ill so I couldn’t finish for several days after I read the reveal. Talk about drawing out the suspense!
If you like people getting their comeuppance, stalking and a heaping amount of heat, give this book a try!

These two were hilariously •yummy and I had such a great time reading about Anders & Jahmar. 🤤❤️‍

Also, I KNEW IT WAS COMING!!! I { knew } it & I still wasn’t ready. 🫣

I wish we got to see them a little further out in time with the epilogue but that’s just a personal want. Overall, it was a great read. One that will definitely be added to my REreads list.

This was quite a fun and hilarious read.

Jahmar and Anders matched with each other so well. Their chemistry was absolutely amazing, especially with Anders not stalking (totally stalking) tendencies and Jahmar’s voyeuristic shenanigans. I loved their banter, which is always a plus for me when it comes to romance. You can expect to laugh quite a bit while reading. One of the chapters had me laughing for a good ten minutes.

But beyond that, it tackles a pretty sobering topic as well, allowing for a nice blend of comedy and deep emotion. Jahmar has some deep and painful secrets that altered the course of his life. And he handles the effects of those secrets in the only way he knows how in hopes of healing himself.

I received an advanced copy and this is my voluntary review.
