Zinnia and Wren were very true to being young 20s competitive immature rivals. They were both very intelligent and had their own growth arcs where they became less self centered and more open with their emotions. I loved seeing them open their hearts to each other.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: mention of gaslighting doctor, endometriosis, use of magic to push couples together

Rivals to lovers, light academia and magical creatures!

This is a fun and cute story about to academic rivals who eventually admit their true feelings of love for each other.
The two characters are both adorable. You’re kicking your feet waiting for them to stop being silly and just get together already.

There is also some LGBTQ+/non-binary rep and think that’s fantastic!

I haven’t read the other books in this collection but after reading this I definitely will!

I really love this series, and I'm so sad it's now come to an end. The universe of Augury Univeristy is so interesting and vibrant, I could read so many more books based in this world. The writing is so well characters are diverse and very well written, and the story really keeps you interested. This installment was a good addition to this world, while also feeling a little different from the other books. This one felt slightly disconnected from the other three in that the characters are more acquaintances than friends with the previous MCs of this series for most of the story, while the others had been longtime friends before the series even began. That said, I still enjoyed the dynamics here. Wren and Zinnia were so sassy, and the banter was so much fun, and I loved seeing the friendships that grew amongst them both and the other characters of this series. I also really enjoyed the little treats we got from Wren when they discussed their identity. It felt really real and relatable despite being based in a fantasy setting. All in all, I really enjoyed this one and had so much fun, but I will say that I don't think any of the couples will be able to surpass Indy and Vega. Those two are definitely my favorites! Either way, this is so worth checking out!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rosa Santoriello delivers a delightful and engaging installment in the Augury University series with Setting Up Love, which centers around Wren, a non-binary half-demon who has always prioritized academics over socializing. Wren’s character is refreshingly unique, and their struggles with friendship and fun make them incredibly relatable. As they navigate the pressures of university life, particularly their rivalry with the ambitious Zinnia—who is determined to snag the title of valedictorian—readers are treated to an entertaining dynamic that is both competitive and charged with tension.

The rivalry between Wren and Zinnia is expertly crafted; their frequent arguments and banter keep the energy high and the stakes even higher. However, everything changes when a seemingly innocent bet leads them to spend more time together. As they collaborate on a project, the forced proximity intensifies their interactions, revealing layers of vulnerability and understanding that make their connection undeniable. Santoriello masterfully captures the enemy-to-lover trope, and the chemistry between Wren and Zinnia is palpable, culminating in moments that are sure to leave readers with flushed cheeks.

The pacing of Setting Up Love is perfect for a quick yet satisfying read, making it an ideal choice for Valentine’s Day or any occasion when you’re craving a dose of romance and tension. The blend of humor, spice, and heartfelt moments creates a narrative that keeps you turning pages, eager to see how Wren and Zinnia’s relationship evolves.

Overall, Setting Up Love is a fast-paced and delightful addition to the Augury University series. It’s a perfect recommendation for anyone looking for a light read with plenty of spice and tension. Rosa Santoriello has crafted a charming story that showcases the complexities of friendship, rivalry, and love.

4.5⭐️. Fairly quick read, well done novella! It’s just a tad bittersweet as this is the last book in the Augury University world and the world building throughout all the books was wonderful and unique. It was fun to expand on some areas and revisit others in each book. Although you can read each book separately, I highly recommend reading them all!

Wren and Zinnia are fantastic rivals, both vying for valedictorian. They have fun banter and even more fun ‘hate spice ;).

Accepted and respected non-binary rep is so positive to see (as it should be).

I am looking forward to reading what comes next from this author!!

My favorite out of the four!! I loved Zinnia and Wren so much! The dynamic between the two was amazing (in and out of the bedroom) Very well done academic rivals (since HS) to lovers. Again I have loved how the author has done such unique pairings for each book with this one being two of the students attending Augury University. As always with a book 4 in an interconnected series it’s so great to still see storylines of previous book characters continue on! Very well done, very worth the read. Great world building in such small packages. <3

This is like a 2.9 because I just wish this book was longer! The story was good but everything felt so rushed that plot lines started only to end a few pages later. I feel as if this greatly would have benefitted from having an extra hundred pages.

I loved the characters and I'm not usually one to consume spice in books but I enjoyed it here. We need more femme doms in books tbh.

I don’t get to read as many paranormal stories as I’d like to. After reading this short story, I know I need to read more. This takes place at a magical school on Earth after something called the Convergence, where magical realms merged with Earth, mixing creatures from multiple realms with humans on Earth. The main characters are two different magical creatures who have been academic rivals for years. Not only is this a paranormal story, its an enemies to lovers story. These two have no bigger enemy than each other. One thing that drew me in to this story is the massive amount of representation in this story. There LGBTQIA representation, with not only same sex couples but also a main character that is non-binary. There is disability representation, with one of the main characters talking about their autism and the other main character’s ADHD. One of the main characters also suffers from crippling endometriosis. The amount of representation is outstanding for a story just over 100 pages.

These two main characters are are simply amazing. The fact that they spend a large portion of the book competing against each other to see who will earn valedictorian just builds the tension between the two. They even decide to make their own competition to battle it out. They go back and forth, trying to one up each other. But underneath there is an attraction that neither want to speak out loud because the can’t be distracted from their end goal. I adored Wren. I am always fond of when an author does such a good job writing a non-binary or trans character. Wren was truly non-binary and my favorite part was when Zinnia called them dude and they spoke up for themselves, letting her know that they didn’t like that term.

This novella was such a fantastic short story if you want to dabble in the world of the paranormal. There is definitely spicy times, some fun scenes between the two. This book was well written and I appreciated the representation it presented. And I have to say that my favorite part was the dedication. 😉

🌶️🌶️🌶

Setting Up Love follows two academic rivals from childhood that now attend the university and are hoping to become valedictorian. There's lots of fun and witty banter between them as well as a competition to help feed their need to best each other. This one was cute and fun with lots of different representation. I really enjoyed this conclusion to the universe and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series since I've read them a bit out of order 😅

If you enjoy:
-Cozy monster romances
-They fall first (Enby)
-Unique familiars and magic
-Endo & Autism Rep
-Rivals to lovers
This could be for you!

This was a sweet, hot, adorable read. I plan on reading the other three books in the series ASAP. I loved that I could jump into this world without reading the other three but was caught up in it enough to WANT to read the others. I was impressed that the author did enough wold building and explanation of the magic without making it the whole story! In my experience that is hard in short to medium length novels and it was done perfectly here.
First the author ticked my primary box for reading this type of story. I usually am hesitant with magic school stories. They either blow me away or leave me feeling squicky. I have found my preference is a University setting instead of a private academy or secondary school.
The two main characters were not flat or uninteresting. They had depth beyond “two gifted kids trying to outdo the other. And they both were given plenty of space to grow into their relationship. I’m a sucker for the rivals to lovers trope, and the author caught the struggle of two “gifted kids trying to be the best only to find something that means even more. I will not spoil anything but the joy both feel at the end is one of the things that cinched this story as one of the best magic school stories I’ve read.
I love good queer rep in a story. For me, seeing a queer relationship grow beyond chemistry and heat to be carried by genuine affection and love without losing the spice was perfect. And I need to give the author a personal shout out for including NB rep right in the central relationship of the story! It was refreshing and I loved it.
Also, actually talking about things like endometriosis and how debilitating it can be without dumbing it down was nice to see. Obviously I personally have never experienced it but several people in my life have and it gets ignored by so many for how brutal it is on people who suffer from it.
Overall, this was a fun read. Spicy where it needed it and heartwarming where it fit. The rivals to lovers arc made sense, if you’ve ever been the “smart kid in a class pitted against someone else you know how quick it can change from animosity to friendship or more if you get to know the other person and I think the author wove that masterfully through the book. Another book I can comfortably highly recommend from an author I will be looking for more of their catalog to read immediately.

Gleeful Goblin Review: As someone who grew up with the JKR books and abandoned them because of the author being an awful TERF, this book feels like a balm to that hurt AND a spicy adult addition to my life. I may have daydreamed about owls bringing me an admittance letter but now all I wanna know is where I can send in my application, essay on why I want to attend Augury University, and pray they accept FAFSA because holy cow would the student loans be worth it!

As someone who favors the gender void side of the spectrum I can't even tell you how thrilled I was with Wren and how SEEN I felt in this story. Not to mention I also connected pretty hard on both anxiety and academic validation like Wren has: "As I watch my classmates introduce themselves and perform their tricks, anxiety digs its claws into me. I have no idea what to perform. It doesn’t matter, because this silly icebreaker doesn’t have any effect on my academic performance, but it will create a perception of me. I’d like to say it’s enough to just be smart, but a large part of me also wants to be perceived as smart. I’m sure a therapist would describe my need for academic validation as unhealthy, but it’s all I’ve ever known."

That competitive fire blazes strong in both Wren and Zinnia and is a focal point for this story. Because it's a cliche but still true saying that the line between love and hate is a thin one. These two have been rivals for YEARS before making it to Augury University so it's only to be expected that all it takes to move over that hate/love line is a little... inspiration. And that inspiration is in the form of a competition to create couples! It's hilarious to see these two fight their own chemistry while creating it for others, all the while secretly fighting being drawn to one another. It's a perfect balance of tension, sarcasm, and witty barbs but still stays low angst. Simply outstanding reading experience. 5/5 Stars

Small Business BookTok ARC Reviews: “Setting Up Love by Rose Santoriello

Note: This ARC was given to me for free by the author, and I am reviewing this book voluntarily.

Augury University is THE university for learning all things magic, and students Wren Elric and Zinnia Featherfields are neck-in-neck in a competition to secure a spot as Valedictorian and a possible Augury educator! The competition starts to backfire, however, when they soon begin to realize that the loathing tension between them is possibly more romantic than they first realized!

Rose Santoriello is at it again with this new installation in the “Augury University series! Set in a Fantasy Futurism backdrop where many monsters, elves, and other mythical beings thrive, this narrative is a fun romantic romp that incorporates strong Neurodiverse and Chronic Disability Representation while also providing a fun Rivals-to-Lovers dynamic reminiscent of and inspired by “Gelphie, (Elphaba x Glinda), from the 2024 musical film “Wicked! If you need a feel-good read now more than ever for Valentine’s Day, then don’t miss out on this book when it hits online shelves on February 14, 2024!

Rating: 5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Spice Meter: 5/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

Tropes to Expect: Rivals-to-Lovers, Pining, F/Enby, Neurodiverse and Chronic Pain Representation, Academia Narrative, Monster Romance, Endometriosis, Anti-Valentine's Day Competition, Witty Banter, Cute Animal Sidekicks, and Cambion x Satyr.

Trigger Warnings: Relationship Anxiety, Discussions or Perfectionism, and Brief Moments of Communication Conflict!

I truly enjoyed this novella! I have never read a book with a female Dom so that was a first for me. This was also the first book I read with a nonbinary MC which was really cool and I'm so excited to have had the opportunity to diversify my bookshelf. And it's a monster romance, which if you know me, is ALWAYS a plus! I found the world and story to be absolutely adorable and totally fun - I was able to read this all in one sitting which was great, too. I went with three stars because while the story was entertaining, and the world was well-built, I struggled with the characters. I had a hard time finding the characters loveable, relatable, or at the very least endearing enough that I could connect with them. I was annoyed with Wren's selfishness and Zinnia's fear of a relationship with Wren disheartening. With that set aside, I really appreciated and LOVED the representation and the world! And I genuinely felt like I learned the "proper" way to respond to someone if I accidentally slip up or use a gendered word often use in slang that makes them uncomfortable without realizing it. Again, I couldn't be happier that I got to experience this story!

“You are both the most frustrating and the most captivating part of my universe.

Thank you to the author for the ARC, I am reviewing this voluntarily!

Starting with the dedication: FIRE. This was such a sweet and spicy academic rivals to lovers novella!

I enjoyed reading another part of the Augury University series and hanging out with its magical beings again.

We follow two students, Zinnia and Wren, competing to become valedictorian. They decide compete in a personal competition and end up in all kinds of fun shenanigans. I had a fun time seeing them fail and succeed in front of each other.

I especially loved the nonbinary AND endometriosis representation in the main couple. Both were done great and we didn't shy away from the harsh realities of how awful endo can be.

The spice was great and kinky and I loved it!

A fast-paced, spicy rivals-to-lovers Monster Romance novella

Zinnia and Wren have been competing since before high school, and now that they’re both at Augury University, their rivalry is more intense than ever. From stupid bets to sabotage attempts, they’ll stop at nothing to outdo each other. But no matter how hard they fight, they can’t seem to stay away from one another

💗F/non-binary pairing

💗ٲ/䲹Dz

💗Neurodivergent characters

💗Endometriosis rep

💗Lots of banter

💗 Light academia

💗Cute and/or creepy familiars

💗Dual POV

It was sweet and funny. I loved the magical university setting, the Halloween-meets-Valentine’s vibes, and the ridiculously hot MCs

Bonus: This book comes with a playlist, a fantastic dedication, a glossary, a map, and a list of TWs

It’s the fourth in a series—guess I’m reading the rest now! As always, check the TWs

I was really excited for this book and was a little disappointed. It was a cute story and a fun quick Valentine's Day read. I wish the story was longer since some of the time jumps were a little confusing and didn't allow for as much character development or to see the relationship change and development. I was also a little confused about the point of their competition. It was an Anti-Valentine's Day competition but they were trying to set a bunch of couples up to fall in love? That seems like they were supporting the idea behind Valentine's Day. I did love the representation in this book and being able to see the previous characters in this book and the progression of their stories.

Setting Up Love is such a cute, spicy story. Wren and Zinnia have spent their entire academic careers as bitter rivals. But when they agree to an anti-Valentine's competition they discover that under the rivalry there's growing threads of something MORE.

I loved all the diverse representation in this story: LGBTQIA, chronic illness, neurodivergent, etc. I'm kind of sad that this is supposed to be the last Augury University book, because the world Rose Santoriello created is so delightful. I have enjoyed ARC reading for this series so much. ❤️

Thank you Rose Santoriello for this eARC.

This was a cute Valentines themed monster romance that is perfect for the lead up to Valentines day! It takes place in Augury University and we follow Wren and Zinnia who are two academic rivals as they realise they probably like each other more than they hate each other.

I loved all the characters in this book and I wish I could see where their relationship ends up. The nonbinary and Endo rep were done really well. The spice was just what I wanted from a book this length and was suprising but exciting!

I'm sad this is the last in the series but I am looking forward to Rose's next book!

I really enjoyed this, I’ve never read the other books in the series but I loved the setting and the characters. The university world setting was fun and exciting and gave Harry Potter vibes except accepting of different pronouns haha. The stakes were pretty low but the academic rivals tension was sooo good throughout.

It’s bittersweet seeing this amazing series come to an ending but I absolutely loved every second of it and this last book was no different.
Back at Augury University it follows Zinnia and Wren as they are academic rivals. They have been competing against each other since the day they met. So they decide to get into a little anti-Valentine’s magic competition. The more time the spend together the more they realise they actually quite like each other but will school get in the way.
I loved Wren they were such a cool character. Zinnia really brought out the competitive side in Wren and I loved seeing them compete.
Thanks to Rose Santoriello for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was truly a Rivals-to- Lovers, it was so fun to watch them fall in love throught academic banter and a little of sapiosexuality. Wren & Zinnia were so entertaining to read cause they were so smitten with each other and they didnt even know it.
Also I thought I knew who was going to be the dom in the relationship, but I was wrong and I LOVED IT. Totally didnt see it coming. And uff🤭 it was so hot🔥
