If he can't have her nobody can..And so a love/hate relationship of some sorts starts.. Straight away your pulled into a scene from the likes of #pornhub It’s beyond hot and definitely sets the stage for what’s to come.
This will test your boundaries so be aware of that before you dive into this, depending on your triggers it doesn’t sugar coat things.
These two pushed and pulled until one of them broke and combusted over a leaked tape which was the catalyst of where it all really kicked started things off in this story. It was hard to connect with these two (this is my opinion) mainly because I felt it focused more on their sexual awakening than their actual connection which is where it lost a few stars for me. I didn't get why they hated each other as much as they did? And that alone made it really hard for me to connect with them. Even when she went through a life changing event I still in that moment never found that connection I was hoping for.

March 17, 2022Did I read the same book as everyone else? Where are all these glowing reviews coming from? Like I'm genuinely curious. I was so excited for this book and it's been a hot minute since I've read this author, but there was no story. No plot line. No angst. No chemistry. No love. It was all sex, and that would have been fine if I had just felt SOMETHING for these characters, but there was nothing there. Colt was a borderline psycho with daddy issues, who thought he was God's gift to women. And Raylee.. well, I did actually like her view that women shouldn't be called sluts & whores just because we dare to like sex as much as men, but that's where my feelings stopped for her.
And I'm not dogging on their kinks, especially since we all like what we like, but the degradation kink got old fast. Add to the fact that he degraded her every second he got when they were actually clothed (which wasn't much) it just didn't work for me. And the fact that they were both fucking around with others -- I just couldn't do it. There was nothing romantic about this book.

Ok. Let me explain. I read this book way back at the beginning of last year and it was one of my first dark romances (I know I know I'm dumb as a rock but anyway). And I didn't appreciate it for what it was. Rereading it now I feel like I could not get enough. I am finally in a place to fully appreciate this book and boy did I appreciate this hot toxic AF book.

Raylee is the definition of that badass girl that walks away from a burning car in an action movie (because that is literally a scene). And she keeps playing games knowing the consequences. But boy does she love those consequences. And she will crawl back for more.
"But no matter what happens, I find myself crawling back on bruised knees to beg him for more. And he's more than willing to give it to me."
"I never learned how to not be a smart-ass. It comes naturally."

Colton is toxic AF but don't we love them that way?? He has "hated" Raylee ever since she became his stepsister. And he will not let her go. He will not stop tormenting her and honestly it's the dark romance equivalent of a boy pulling your pigtails and I am honestly here for it. As toxic as it is, the man knows his job!! And he has no problem proving that to Raylee every single time.

The fact that this book literally starts off with a group sex scene…� I thought the H was supposed to be possessive/Jealous, over the top H so I was a little bit surprised knowing that they have been fucking for YEARS and he lets his friends touch her…�.
“You are to please them. Only I please you. Understand?� They know how much I hate her, and they also know I’d kill them if they ever touched her behind my back. What can I say? I’m a complicated man.
Yes you are a very complicated man indeed.
He does admit that he hates her being with other men but he doesn’t want her to know.
I’ve never let them have a piece of her before. If I’m being honest with myself, I hate the fact that she fucks other men. But I can’t let her know that about me. And this is about my control over her right now, not the other way around.
Personally for me, when I think of a ”possessive, over the too H�, I think of Christian from the maddest obsession, who literally killed a man just because the woman he was obsessed with said she would sleep with him.
So I didn’t like how the book started off, years of physical/emotional relationship that was just mentioned in the passing. The hate and lust, I wanted to read how it started and that journey to the moment they become obsessed with each other, that no matter what Raylee always came back to Colt for more and vice verse.
Another thing, the reason Colt releases the sex tape is because Raylee starts dating a guy named Nate and he doesn’t like it and now decides to make her his “slut� forever. But then still proceeds to have sex with OW 🤔
Now I’m just horny, and Amy wasn’t doing it for me. But the moment I saw Raylee standing at my door, I knew exactly who would. I didn’t even finish. Once Amy came, I was done with her. Raylee has ruined me for any other woman. They’re boring.
I did like how Raylee retaliated by burning down Colts car, that was cool 😂
Any woman can allow a man to make her go insane. The point is to stand out—be remembered and feared for your toxicity—but look fuckable while you’re doing it.

I had this book on my tbr since so long but i truly wish I would've kept it there for much longer. the book have a lot of toxicity , so less of a storyline and A MAJOR degradation kink which i found a little unbearable. The humiliation was just way too much and honestly there was nothing consensual here ; it just felt like some huge ass manipulative rape to me ; fmc could legit fool herself for all she want. I have read a lot of dark romance and nothing EVER grossed me out like this one did.
It had stepbrother/stepsister trope but there were no scenes of them sneaking around , trying to hide from parents etc etc again lack of storyline just made it boring and plain. Instead there were just endless , boring sex scenes and OH did i mentioned this book starts with MFMM scene which I found absolutely irrelevant and pointless 🤦🏻♀�

I always forget my kink is when the hero calls the heroine princess. 🥺 Also did not know this was a story set in the Lords universe� love it!! I need more stories in this world. I LOVE THIS! 😭😭😭 Sorry not sorry for repeating myself. 😇 A coincidence that I read this after Lily White’s The Five. Both *amazing* books featuring the slut heroine. While The Five had more of an exploration in femme fatale mystique, this was celebrating your inner slut.
Shantel writes smut on a level with Trent Evans. I’ve tried to finish other works by her but nothing compares to her Lords universe.
If you’re not into humiliation kink or smut, this won’t work for you.
This makes me very excited for The Sinner which is recently released and set among Lords.
Some further notes:
1. I enjoyed the simplicity of this story where it all starts from the hero publishing a clip of him and the heroine together. After the hero achieves what he wants by releasing the clip, I eye-rolled at the hero telling his friend to delete the original clip, as if people might not screen-record or in some way save the clip on their phone.
2. I would have loved a longer story to this couple because I'm actually very curious about how the Lords society works. The hero and his friends are recruited to be lackeys. They are lords, in a sense, but they don't interact with the likes of initiates like Ryat etc. However, I also think the story that we got was just perfect. I think the commentary on sluts is bang-on, where I also really appreciate the objective portrayal of CNC and humiliation kinks, and the juxtaposition between the hero giving the heroine what she needs versus the big bad guy.
3. We need more books like Shantel Tessier's Sabotage where it is an exploration into women's sexuality in the terrain of slut/femme fatale/nympo/hot mess. I like that the heroine never feels ashamed about herself, aware of society's hypocrisies. The only thing that is particularly messy is her hate/love relationship with her stepbrother, but I loved reading about their toxic relationship.

My first book by Shantel Tessier was the Ritual and I LOVED it! I adored Ryat. I loved how protective he was of Blakely. I loved how he was so OTT J/P over her! Like no one could even LOOK at his Blakely without him freaking out! So when I saw Sabotage recommended on a Facebook group, I was expecting more of the same. The T/W section says that Colt was supposed to be OTT J/P, so I was EXCITED!
What I love about the OTT J/P trope is that the guy can’t stand to have anyone near his woman. No one can touch her except for him. She is HIS and his alone. Someone is going to have to explain to me how Colt was J/P when the prologue starts with him sharing Raylee with his two other friends, videotaping the whole thing and then posting it on the internet for the whole world to see! It made no sense! Like� you’re so jealous and possessive, but you’re going to allow your two BEST FRIENDS to fuxx your girl?! You’re going to allow the whole world to see her naked?! 🤨🧐
Also, this was REALLY heavy on the degradation and humiliation kink. I read the TW and didn’t see this listed as a trigger, and I think it should have been because this level of humiliation and degradation isn’t for everyone. While I don’t mind it in small doses, this was just WAAAAAYYYY too much for me.
Aside from that, the plot was kind of mess. There were gigantic plot holes that made no sense. The epilogue was really unsatisfying. It was just another chapter in the book. To me, a good epilogue shows what happens to the couple in the future. I LOVED the epilogue in the Ritual, and I was expecting something similar. I was at least expecting to see how Colton and Raylee’s parents dealt with their relationship. I feel like the book ended with a lot of unresolved issues.

If you enjoy constant hate smut and a lot of degradation/humiliation, like verbally and physically then you may gobble this up. I think I could have enjoyed it if there was a little more of the subplot, but this was a decent read overall. There are many TW/CW so definitely read the authors note at the start or ask someone.

What I first want to say is, every other book of Shantels I absolutely loved. They are all five star ratings for me. This will NOT hinder me from future books she writes and I will continue reading her books. With that being said, I’m so disappointed this fell flat for me. I really wanted to rate it a two but I can’t get myself to give that amount of stars to an author I’ve come to love so I went with three.
If someone was going to give me $1,000,000 if I could tell them the plot of this story.. I would be out of $1,000,000 because I couldn't even tell you. I have no idea what the entire book was about except for their absolute hatred for each other, and even then.. you don’t know why? Yes, it’s a step-sibling enemies to lovers but the “I want you but I can’t have you because it’s forbidden� hate is never as toxic as what they had with each other. This sounds horrible but I’m honestly shocked someone beta-read and edited this book and said “Yes, this is perfect.. publish this as-is�. I would have rated this a solid five if it was an erotic novella.. but this was a standalone book.. that was supposed to have a storyline, character development and conclusion to said storyline. The very few things that were in the questionable plot we didn't even get a conclusion / answers too. You finished the book and thought, "That was hot sex but what was this book even about?".

That being said, I LOVED the smut. Shantel can write an amazing sex scene and it never disappoints.

- The secret society seemed very random to me since they never mention the society as a whole and just a few times they met up to kill people. They even had a scene where Ryat from the Ritual was introduced to the guys and before you even blinked he was gone.. it was so random.
- I did not feel a connection with literally any character. Colton was so narcissistic it wasn't believable he had a caring bone in his body. Raylee just casually cheated on her boyfriend Nate constantly with Colton (but i thought they hated each other with a passion?) Nate seemed like a really nice guy at first and then all of a sudden when he saw her after the breakup at the party he turned into an abusive psycho ex who was going to make her pay?
- The only thing I got out of the book was the sexual attraction between the characters and not a legitimate emotional connection.
- also.. “branding and knife� kinks are consensual.. not carving your name in someone while their in a sex induced high and find out the next day.
- At the end of the book, Colton said he was going to tell their parents about them as a couple and we don't get their response to it.
Again, I feel really bad making a review like this.. this book trope was absolutely my cup of tea. All of the dirty and taboo trigger warnings are my jam, but the book just wasn't. I devoured this in less than 24 hours, and, yet again, Shantel Tessier continues to push my boundaries in the form of kinks.
What I loved:
1. I loved the heroine. She is straight up crazy, but I loved the vehicle that she becomes for the theme and the fighter she becomes.
2. The hero. What can I say? He is not going to be for everyone. He degrades the heroine but they both get off on it. It’s consensual, while I personally would punch him but they both loved what he did. I did love his possessive nature.
3. I love the guy group. I wouldn’t be made to have more.
4. The steam is HOT. From page 1.
5. The whole thing was consuming.

I devoured this in less than 24 hours, and, yet again, Shantel Tessier continues to push my boundaries in the form of kinks.
What I loved:
1. I loved the heroine. She is straight up crazy, but I loved the vehicle that she becomes for the theme and the fighter she becomes.
2. The hero. What can I say? He is not going to be for everyone. He degrades the heroine but they both get off on it. It’s consensual, while I personally would punch him but they both loved what he did. I did love his possessive nature.
3. I love the guy group. I wouldn’t be made to have more.
4. The steam is HOT. From page 1.
5. The whole thing was consuming.

The fact that I was able to read this out in public with a straight face is honestly remarkable, especially with that prologue

Well, this is super dark... This couple is wild, to say at least.
The thing is I liked the first part way better than the second half, then it gets too much even for me.

Colt and Raylee are step siblings. They’ve been having hate sex for 5 years. It’s another book with D/s trope. Raylee is feisty though outside of their sexual encounters. It was a short read and held my interest.
