Two Nights with the Duke

Rate this book
A runaway bride. A duke with a sinful reputation. Can she trust his offer of love and protection?

Malcolm MacRae, Duke of Camborne, is one of the ton’s most sought-after bachelors. But when his latest scandal is too much even for him, he decides to return home to Scotland to contemplate his rakehell ways. However, a broken coach wheel strands him in the seacoast village of Arbroth, where he secures accommodations at an inn for the next two nights. What he does not expect is to find the loveliest lady he has ever set eyes upon fast asleep in his bed. Is it a sign? Is he ready to reform his rakish ways? And when Lady Jocelyn MacRaine can only be saved by finding herself a husband, will he step up and offer her marriage?

Lady Jocelyn had no idea being a runaway bride could be so difficult. She is now short of funds, cold, hungry, and stranded in Arbroth—quite a fall for an earl’s coddled daughter. When she overhears two maids at the inn discussing one of their guests and learns he is not expected to return for the night, she convinces the innkeeper’s naïve son that she is the guest’s wife. She falls asleep in the comfort of his bed, intending to leave before he returns—and is then rudely awakened when the impossibly handsome man returns early. What is she to do now?

This has been an enjoyable series, about three friends who happen to be called the Silver Duke’s. Who have all been avoiding marriage.
This was a nice story.
One run away bride 👰 and a Duke contemplate his life style.
Malcolm goes to his room to find a lady in his bed. Jocelyn has been running away from her betrothed for 3 days. Tired and hungry, and hearing a maid say the room was empty all night. She decided to pretend to be the wife of the man, who’s room it was. Only for him to come back early and catch her in is bed.
He agrees to help her, not knowing the problem that are ahead of them
Good characters, but both are insecure in their feelings for each other. Due to past experiences.
I thought this was the last book in the series. It looks like there is probably another 3 books to come.

While I didn't look closely at the insta love thing in the other two books, this book was too much. I understand why and I did enjoy the romance, but it was too farfetched for me. Maybe it's me and my love for slow burns. I can understand instalust but instalove not so much hehe

An age gap historical romance with a runaway bride and a Silver Duke.

Two Nights with the Duke is the third installment in the Silver Dukes trilogy. Malcolm Camborne, the Duke of Camborne, is a Silver Duke, and the ton knows Silver Dukes are unattainable gods. They are only to have fun with and never to marry. Except Camborne is bewildered when he meets Jocelyn, a beautiful spinster, in nothing but his t-shirt and asleep in his bed. Jocelyn is in dire need since she ran away from her wedding to an awful man. Will Camborne help her?

Each installment can be read as a standalone.

What to expect:
🩶 age gap
🩶 runaway bride

Spoilers mentioned ahead. Please avoid if you’re interested in reading.

My thoughts:
I adored the premise of an age gap historical romance of a runaway bride overcoming a few villains. How fun! The romance and the main characters were slightly charming at parts, but overall, the writing fell flat for me since some of their issues were repetitive. I have to admit, I did fall asleep twice while reading because I wasn’t connected to the story.

A couple of notes:
I feel like the ending would’ve been more satisfying if Jocelyn did her daily “I love you report.

After almost being shot in the heart, Jocelyn saying Camborne’s love saved her instead of the locket was a bit cringey to read.

This was the first Scottish accent that I didn’t mind reading. It wasn’t exaggerated or butchered.

The Silver Dukes toasting to their wives at the end was adorable. “To these extraordinary women who tamed the Silver Dukes. “Hear, hear.

Overall, Two Nights with the Duke was an okay read, but I wouldn’t shelve this under my ‘historical romance favorites.

Thank you NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Malcolm MacRae, Duke of Camborne, is one of the ton’s most sought-after bachelors, he & his two friends are known as The Silver Dukes. When his latest scandal is too much even for him, he decides to return home to Scotland to contemplate his ways. However, a broken coach wheel strands him in the seacoast village of Arbroth, where he secures accommodations at an inn for the next two nights. Lady Jocelyn had no idea being a runaway bride could be so difficult. She is now short of funds, cold, hungry, and stranded in Arbroth. She falls asleep in the comfort of his bed, intending to leave before he returns—and is then rudely awakened when the impossibly handsome man returns early.
The third book in the series & another delicious romp. I loved both Malcolm & Jocelyn, both at a turning point in their lives. He’s now in his forties & whilst not ready to settle down he does feel his life could have more meaning. Jocelyn is in her late twenties & has decided to marry the next man who asks but when push comes to shove she can’t marry the despicable man & runs. Of course the pair are discovered & there’s only one solution so they marry just before her parents & jilted betrothed enter the church. Both Malcolm & Jocelyn have their insecurities but as they grow closer the trust & feelings deepen. A very well written romance with a lovely mix of humour, romance, blackmail & secrets. The banter is witty, the attraction sizzles, the characters have lovely depth, the pace is good. Did I love it? Yes & look forward to more Silver Dukes

Scotland will never be the Same

I rated this book a five because I loved the characters in this story, the bad guys were typical and truly worthless beings and the two star crossed lovers finally figured out each other. I will search out the book one and two to read too. Enjoy.

Two Nights With the Duke by Meara Platt is a Silver Dukes novel and a good one it was. A reader can always count on Meara Platt for a good read. Lady Jocelyn MacRaine had run from her own wedding. She hadn’t particularly wanted to marry but got sick of hearing about it so she choose one-a husband, and chose poorly. He was not only a cheater but he was kind of disgusting and probably only after her dowry. She got as far as she could, but she hadn’t planned wisely: she was wearing inappropriate clothing (her silk wedding dress) and she had no money. She tricked her way into a room an an inn when she overheard one of the maids say the owner of said room would not be returning to it tonight. The maid had been wrong and now there was a big, burly Scot, perhaps a little drunk, wondering what she was doing in his bed. They managed to work things out but he was not going to sleep on the floor, so she had to trust him. She did. He proved trustworthy. The next morning she explained in detail. Turns out he was the Duke of Camborne. Well, she could see he had earned his moniker as a Silver Duke.

This was an entertaining story about a man at loose ends. The universe had seen fit to send him exactly what he needed. It took him a while to understand that, and it took her longer to believe in him, her opinions of men not being very high. Her parents arrived with the errant groom, the Earl of Ballantry. Then things really started popping. By then Camborne had married the lady and so all he could offer was a settlement, which was good, because all Ballantry really wanted was money. As Camborne was arranging things, he discovered all her accounts, including her dowry account, were empty. It was a struggle, but it all came around right for two fabulous characters. Good plot; good premise; excellent characters, even the bad ones.

I was invited to read two Nights With the Duke by Dragonblade. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #MearaPlatt #TwoNightsWithTheDuke

If this book were a dessert, it would be a rich Scottish shortbread with just the right hint of scandal and a sprinkle of hilarity. Meara Platt delivers yet again with her signature charm, this time throwing us into the delightful chaos of Lady Jocelyn and the irresistibly rakish Silver Duke, Malcolm MacRae, the Duke of Camborne.

Lady Jocelyn, runaway bride extraordinaire, finds herself cold, hungry, and stranded in Arbroth - a plight that would be dire were it not laced with comedic gold. In true HR heroine fashion, she commandeers the bed of our dashing hero, Malcolm, who returns to find his sanctuary unexpectedly invaded by the loveliest woman he's ever seen.

Then the plot thickens as the honorable duke insists, they tell everyone they are a married couple to avoid more scandal. Enter a drunken sot who discovers them at the inn and rushes off to inform her ex-groom and parents. It doesn't take long for Jocelyn's worried parents and her irate (and frankly, disgusting) betrothed, who only wants her for her dowry, to show up at the inn. This scandal-ridden escapade turns out to be full of danger, blackmail, and lies; but also, cheeky cat-and-mouse games and witty banter that turn into sizzling attraction and genuine affection.

The author always finds a way to put ink to paper and create humor with heart, crafting characters who leap off the page and pull you into the story. Her impeccable storytelling and clever dialogue make her an essential part of the historical romance genre. The book is proof of her unmatched ability to blend laugh-out-loud moments with tender romance, making her a favorite amongst HR fans. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A lighthearted romance with runaway bride, reformed rake, fake marriage turned into real and close proximity tropes, some banter, secrets, villains, a touch of suspense, a few mild love scenes and very likable characters who complimented each other perfectly. Camborne is a notorious rake but honorable and still haunted by his losses in the past, and Jocelyn a forward, kindhearted and a tad prideful heroine. I liked how they felt connected from the start.

Malcolm MacRae, Duke of Camborne, one of the infamous Silver Dukes, has returned to Scotland to reflect on his rakish life when he finds a strange woman in his bed at the inn on the way to his fishing trip. He is surprised by her arrogance and impudence, but decides to help the runaway.
Lady Jocelyn MacRaine has a reputation for being a harpy who scares off her suitors. To avoid ending up as a spinster, she accepts the marriage proposal of a womaniser and fortune hunter, but when she realises that he is already cheating on her with countless women before their wedding, she leaves him at the altar and runs away. She finds shelter in a supposedly unoccupied room in an inn, but this is a mistake and she finds herself face to face with the notorious Duke of Camborne. But instead of having her thrown out, he is prepared to pretend to be her husband and help her. However, when she is recognised, the two decide to marry in order to save Jocelyn's reputation...

All in all, an entertaining instalove story with endearing characters, that I am happy to recommend!

When a book opens with a runaway bride sneaking into a duke's bed at an inn, you know you're in for a delightful ride! "Two Nights with the Duke" has an intriguing premise and delivers some entertaining moments, though it doesn't quite reach its full potential. Malcolm MacRae, one of the notorious Silver Dukes, finds himself stranded in the seaside village of Arbroth while fleeing his latest scandal. Enter Lady Jocelyn, our resourceful (if slightly desperate) heroine, who "borrows" his room for the night. Their meet-cute is one of the highlights of the book - nothing like finding a beautiful stranger in your bed to kick off a romance!
What worked for me was - the initial set up, banter between Malcom & Jocelyn and decent pacing throughout the book. While this is book 3 in a series, it stands well on its own - I hadn't read the previous books and had no trouble following along. The romance has its charming moments, and both leads are at interesting turning points in their lives, which adds some depth to their characters. While not groundbreaking, it's an enjoyable enough read for historical romance fans. It's the kind of book that makes for a pleasant afternoon's entertainment, even if it might not leave a lasting impression. If you're looking for a light historical romance with some fun moments and decent banter, this could be worth picking up. I would actually give this 3.5/5

The stars are for the reunion at the end and more bets to see if the Silver Dukes and their wives can manage to see more couples fall in love!
I was a little on the fence about “Jocelyn MacRaine, the Earl of Granby daughter! She bragged so much about her wealth it was annoying especially as events unfolds with her father!
But it was like a millionaire in the face of a Billionaire compared to the wealth of Duke of Camborne. Jocelyn has been labeled a harpy and there were certainly times that reputation was well deserved! She demanded things in situations she had little it no control over or in!
Jocelyn was prepared to marry a man so womanizing he seduced the wife of the vicar that was to perform the ceremony! This was apparently the last straw and she ran away with little or nothing to her name!
Lord Ballantry odious philander is not going to let her get away Scot free!
Her reputation is quite ruined but everyone knows Silver Dukes don’t marry or do they?
Can these two have a HEA? Jocelyn seems to mellow out a lot when she’s getting a lot of heat on the bedroom but her inquisitive nature may reveal some ugly truths about her father and her own pride!
There is never a dull moment as these two embark on the greatest adventure of a lifetime! Love and how desperate people do desperate things! Bravo love this series!

As always with this author, one can expect a delightful romance with strong characters, meaningful dialogue, and some suspense. Two Nights with a Duke is no exception and I found myself engrossed from the opening pages. Lady Jocelyn is a young lady who finds her way around problems, albeit in an unconventional manner, which is how she ends up in the Duke of Camborne's bed. Malcolm may have a wicked reputation, nevertheless, he is a man of honor and does not take advantage of women in any way, even if they have purloined his accommodation! Upon questioning Jocelyn, Malcolm becomes protective of her and is determined to keep her safe by pretending to be married. Regrettably, both Jocelyn and Malcolm are recognized by an unsavory character, and their cover is blown, leading to a chaotic marriage ceremony and tense moments for both of them. Malcolm is thrown off kilter when he realizes he has developed feelings for Jocelyn, but persuading her that he does not intend to ditch her at the first opportunity takes some hard work. Ultimately, love saves the day and the couple finds that they are perfect for one another. I received a copy of this delightful romance as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Lady Jocelyn is an entertaining heroine! Though intelligent she makes some seriously stupid mistakes that end up with her in the Duke of Camborne’s inn bed while she is on the run. I think readers will agree that one of her endearing qualities is being able to turn things around quickly with a positive spin and her kindness.

Malcolm MacRae, Duke of Camborne, a silver duke, is not interested in marriage or love but he for all his faults he is honorable. He makes it quite clear that he only does relationships with mistresses or married women so finding Jocelyn in his bed throws him for a loop.

What follows is a fun time for the reader as Camborne tries to keep her safe and protected without being too involved emotionally. For added drama there are some purely evil people in the story and lots of drama so the reader will not want to put the book down till they get to the last page.

I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

THIS IS ROMANCE. So sweet, so swoony, so tender.

One of my best HR reads for 2025. And oh my, the MMC, Malcolm? Och, be still my heart. He is so manly, a generous lover and just such a sweetheart. One of my best book husbands.

Ughhhh, such adorable and loveable characters who really deserves all the love they can have and so they truly deserved each other. I love how kind, generous and tender they were with each other. I loved the way they loved each other and understood each other. The romance and chemistry was roof high. I so love miss Meara Platt's writing and I have religiously read the previous books in this series and everytime another book in this series gets released it just seems to top the one previous to it, it is also the case with this book. I was surprised with how the series is getting better and better and even more romantic each time so yeah I just can't wait for the next books in this series. Likeee, I am so so highly anticipating it right now and oh my if I could only have an ARC for the next book😭.

So allegedly the final book in the trilogy but I can see more coming based on the epilogue in this book.

Jocelyn is the daughter of an earl, known to be a bit of a harpy she's managed to remain single until she's twenty seven, when she allowed her family into accepting a proposal, in spite of right clauses in his behaviour, he needs every woman he can, and Jocelyn waits until her wedding day to runaway and admit she's made a mistake.

On her second night away she overhear s that the occupant of the best room in the inn will be away so she sneaks into his room, orders a bath and a meal and sneaks into his bed. Hours later Malcom,Duke of Camborne returns and finds a young woman in his bed. Even when she finds he's one of the disreputable silver dukes she won't leave the bed, so Malcolm joins her. The first of the two nights.

Of course her betrothed and parents find Jocelyn with the duke, and all sorts of secrets are exposed.

Still not quite Farthingale standard, but readable. 4.5*

Two Nights with the Duke: A Recency Historical Romance (The Silver Dukes Book 3) Meara Platt

One disaster after the next caused her to leave an evil womanizer, that just wanted her dowry, which was used by father to invest in a bad market deal. A Silver Duke who found her in his bed at the Inn, but fortunately was so surprised by her in his bed, while he was drunk. After telling of her escape from this evil Earl, felt sorry for her and let her stay. A mystery of evil does, an innocent Joselyn, A handsome Duke Malcolm McRae Camborne who is a former rake but now a good guy, and all the others make for a very interesting and exciting story. Everyone should enjoy. You will learn about what it means to fall in love, understand what it takes to care for another person, open you heart, progress through the peerage, Diaries etc. I loved this book!!!

I do so love this author’s storytelling. The chemistry she weaves between the hero and heroine just make me tingly inside. Camborne has never felt love. Jocelyn loves fiercely. This whirlwind of a story will keep you on the edge of your seat. Watching Jocelyn breaks through his walls was exciting and seeing Camborne’s fiercely protectiveness towards her made my heart melt. I adored their willingness to be honest with each other and could feel the pain when they could not. Just when you think things settle down, the author gives another surprise that is beautifully done. I adored the epilogue with all three Silver Dukes and can’t wait to see who wins what wager!

I received this story for free and these are my own views.

Lady Jocelyn absconds from her wedding at the very last minute. Pride and stubbornness had made her keep to her betrothal even though she quickly realised it was a mistake. Unfortunately realising she couldn’t go through with it so late meant she had no plans and no money. After two nights sleeping in cold churches, she appropriates a stranger’s chamber in a comfortable inn when she overhears that he will not be back that night. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately as he helps her) he returns before the night is over. A lighthearted romance with a honourable rake, a spirited lady, parents with secrets, and two villains.

5+++++. I adore this series so I'll start with if you haven't read any of these, read one and get hooked like the rest of us into all of them.

This author writes with astonishing cleverness, drawing the reader into the lives of people from another time and place. Her humor is sprinkled throughout so you have both drama and humor tied into the story, just as we do in real life. Her characters are impeccable with depth and creativity. I could go into each character but others have written a clearer overview of both Jocelyn's departure from her horrible fiance and well as Malcolm's astonishing discovery of her in his bed. The Silver Duke's series takes us to the slightly older dukes allowing, us more mature readers to still dream. Worth every minute to read and enjoy, so don't miss out.

I stumbled upon this series by accident and immediately fell in love with the Silver Dukes and the women who tame them. In this book,

Malcom, the sexy Scotsman stumbles upon the woman of his dreams while fully awake and slightly inebriated (but we won’t hold that against him). Jocelyn, a runaway bride, takes refuge in his rooms when she hears that they lay empty for the night. What happens next is a series of events that has these two strangers, pretend to be man and wife, actually become man and wife and then fall head over heals in love. All, in a way, that is both sweet and sexy.

I loved everything about this. It was a fantastic read from start to finish! I’m giving TWO NIGHTS WITH THE DUKE the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!

A Charming and Lighthearted Regency Romance
What’s a runaway bride to do when she’s out of options? Why, impersonate a duke’s wife and sneak into his bed, of course! Jocelyn thinks she’s found the perfect hiding spot when she hears the guest of a room won’t be returning—but things take a turn when Malcolm, the duke of the hour, comes back early.
Instead of scandal, sparks fly. Malcolm may have the reputation of a rake, but he’s also a man of honor. When Jocelyn shares her predicament, he’s determined to protect her. Together, they face off against a villain or two, but the real question is—can protection and honor blossom into love?
This sweet and whimsical Regency romance is the perfect treat for fans of historical love stories with a touch of humor and heart.

The more I read from Meara Platt, the more I fall in love with her writing. Her prose is full of emotion and flows easily, making it a fast read.

This story gripped me from the beginning and held my attention. Actually, I didn't want it to end.
The romance is tender and believable. I loved Camborne! He is the ultimate hero and a wonderful book boyfriend. His protectiveness towards Jocelyn was heartwarming. I enjoyed the progression of their relationship and how they handled the hurdles. Instead of suffering through a third-act breakup, they persevere and become stronger in their love.

There are love scenes, but they are not too descriptive. The language is suggested, but no curse words.

Violence: Punching

This is the third book in a series. Because each book deals with a different silver duke, you can read them on their own. Our hero this time needs time on his own in the highlands to sort his head out. Fate has other ideas.

Our heroine is a runaway bride. The Ton has knicknamed her as a harpy. She is about to cause a lot of chaos.

There are a lot of emotional moments, a few giggles, and even some danger for our characters to face. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the books in the series. Each one has fascinating and very different characters. I look forward to reading some more.

Great fun.

An Enjoyable Steamy Read

I really enjoyed this steamy story about Jocelyn and Duke Malcolm. It was quite fast moving, in fact this comment from Malcolm says it all - " We’ve experienced more excitement in these few weeks of marriage than most couples have in a lifetime.. There is deception, fraud, bribery and attempted murder all together with frequent steamy scenes. I liked how Jocelyn was determined to be kind. Her father was weak and annoying because he did not show any good qualities. Malcolm was strong and surprisingly kind for a Silver Duke. This story is an enjoyable read.

Awesome. Marvelous. Spectacular.

Two Nights with the Duke is an absolutely beautiful story of love really at first sight. Although it took 16 days for him to realize Jocelyn was the love of his life. He had to first forgive himself and open his heart. She fell immediately for his honor, loyalty and his promise to protect her. They overcame the money hungry man she left at the alter and her father’s misuse of her funds.
Like the first two in the series Meara Platt draws the reader into the story making you feel like the characters are dear friends! Can’t wait to see what is next.

Desperate to avoid a terrible marriage, Jocelyn jilts her bridegroom on their wedding day and runs away. Silver Duke Malcolm never expects to find a virgin in his bed at the inn and does his best to be a gentleman and help her. When they are discovered and forced to marry, Jocelyn feels sure Malcolm will come to resent her. Though not able to say the words, Malcolm repeatedly shows her how much he cares for her. Is it enough? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

Lady Jocelyn MacRaine is a runaway bride. Her money ran out at an inn where she over hears the maids talk of an empty bedroom for the night belonging to Malcolm MacRae. Malcolm, the Duke of Camborne finds a young lady in his bed. Once he hears her story, he vows to take care of her. As the Silver Duke tries to resist love, Jocelyn isn't afraid to give him her heart. Insecurities on both sides create a lot of conflict throughout the story.

This was really great! Sometimes a girl just needs to read a low-angst, lighthearted, lovey dovey book; this DELIVERED. I loved Malcolm & Jocelyn both as individual MCs and as a couple. LOVE the way they get together, how they get along, and how quickly they work through any conflict.

Also I just want to say - I would also risk it all for Malcolm within hours of meeting him🙂‍↕

This was a very enjoyable read🩷 and I’ll definitely need to go back and read the rest of this Silver Dukes series!

Who's been sleeping in my bed?

Jocelyn finagles her way into Malcom's room, thinking he would not return for the night. Only, he does. That's how they meet. Malcom takes pity on Jocelyn and then he decides to protect her and maybe keep her?
Malcom is a silver duke, with a reputation for hooking up with mercenary women and he uses them for transactional sex. But, he is getting on in years and Jocelyn, 27, is on the run from an overly rutting fiancé.

Over the course of sixteen days, Malcom will feed Jocelyn, clothe her, share a room with her and maybe end up married to her.

Malcolm MacRae, Duke of Camborne, is one of the Silver Dukes. He has the rakish reputation to go with that designation. However, he does not know how the young woman in his bed at the inn got there. Jocelyn is a runaway bride. She had grown tired after running for several days from her father and a man she did not wish to wed, so she took advantage of Malcolm’s empty room by claiming to be his wife. Now the fun begins. Malcom becomes protective of the precocious entertaining woman, and promises to help her reach her destination. It isn’t going badly until a ne’er-do-well recognizes them and decides to cause trouble. Jocelyn keeps Malcolm on his toes. Malcolm’s feelings about marriage undergo a change. This is wonderfully fast-paced romp, complete with a fake marriage, a sopping wet wedding, trouble from a scorned suitor and his minion, true love, and an awesome ending with a big surprise for the Silver Dukes. This is the last of this trio of Silver Dukes. I wonder what happens next.

A lighthearted romance with just the right mix of scandal, desire, villains, angst and witty banter. A runaway bride and her sinful Scottish silver duke make for an enticing and delightful read. Malcolm had me at hello! He's such a strong and empathetic character with past trauma and Jocelyn is the perfect opposite ready to give him all her love. A story of love and protection that takes them to a wonderful happily ever after.
