Mark Vincent, spy with the Washington Bureau of Intelligence and Security, has become the lover of Quinton Mann, spook with the CIA. With what's going on in both their organizations, can two such diverse men maintain any kind of relationship?
Mark Vincent and Quinton Mann have finally kind of, sort of, exchanged promises. Mark has returned from an assignment on the West Coast, and he’s looking forward to spending some quality time with his lover. After all, it’s the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. What could be better than a little beer, a little corned beef on rye, and Quinn in his bed?
However, on Monday it’s back to the grind—this time to an almost empty department: Matheson is away on assignment and Ms. Parker, Mark’s secretary, is taking sick time, something she never does. But these aren’t the only signs of something unusual, well, more unusual than normal, going on. Gradually, Mark uncovers a series of events going back to the previous spring and involving not only his senior special agent but Theo Bascopolis, a former rent boy who is Mark’s friend.
While Mark unravels the threads of the Gordian knot the WBIS has become, he realizes how deep his feelings for Quinn have grown. But can a spy like Mark ever hope to be “the one for a spook like Quinn?
7th re-read January 2024 __________________ This was told from Mark's POV and I missed hearing Quinn's thoughts. Still 5 stars and have I mentioned I absolutely love these two? Because I DO!
Sexy-sociopath Mark Vincent and his equally divine sidekick Quinton Mann are back in another highly-anticipated Men Mann of My Dreams episode with some cute cast additions..like Mark's new f'ing kitty 'Pita.'
and..I always wondered how such a great f'ing writer comes up with these huh? kinds of titles. But very classy cover. Hope it's not recycled. That would burst my f'ing bubble.
I could literally spend all my reading time in Mark's twisted head and conversations..because that beautifully-twisted sentimental-mother-f'er is hotter than hell's hinges. Of course not outranking Quinn..cuz he's in a can of splendid..all himself.
I can't get enough of their contrasting personalities. It really speaks megawatts of volume of this writer's talent. Their intensely-individual traits really mix up a great chemistry-cocktail for a dynamic story presence. I fully expect these bad-ass mofo's to be living out some flesh-filled lives somewhere off-page.
The sex felt a tad subdued in this one..or perhaps just more comfortable in their continual erections connections. Still f'ing lovely..minus some minor off-page moments. Hmph.
Maybe this episode wasn't exactly to my personally-ordered-specifications. But to really appreciate their shit..you have to embrace their evolving story in its entirety.
And. I do. Because to know em..is to love em..and all that shit. Fortunately, this writer really makes it easy to do so every time.
Consider this my special-order request on the next episode-Mann of My Dreams: Xtra-f'ing-heavy-whipping-cream on the libido-strong portion. Thanks!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I'm pretty sure by now, people know how much I adore these characters and this world. Mark and Quinn are one of my favorite book couples of all time and their story is one of my favorite stories too. I've always enjoyed reading about these guys and I will continue to enjoy reading about them until Tinnean decides they have reached the end.
If You're Going Through Hell Keep Going is Mark Vincent's book. Don't get me wrong, Quinn is in here, but it's told entirely from Mark's POV, which is a little different. But this isn't the Spy Vs. Spook series anymore, it's now called Mann of My Dreams, and this is the first book in that series. I would recommend you start with the Spy Vs. Spook series and continuing on into this series, because you really need to read the other books before reading this one or you might get a bit confused.
This is Mark's book, which I stated above, and it was so amazing. Mark might be my favorite character in this series, kinda, maybe. Well, I love both guys, but there is something about Mark Vincent that really made me fall in love with him in the first book. And here, while he has changed a little, he is still the same lovable guy he was in the other books. Here, I think he grew because of Quinn and his love for Quinn helped soften him a little. It was nice to see that side of Mark again, and I think it really was needed in this one.
There are things I don't want to spoil because you really want to not know before reading, but the ending of this book was really, really wonderful. And it was such a relief when Mark and Quinn finally got to that stage. But it also broke my heart a little. Mark said what he said and he believed what he believed, (this is so hard to mention while giving nothing away) and it was so nice to see Mark a small bit vulnerable, at least that's what I thought he was.
Overall, this was a really great book to continue on with Mark and Quinn's story. It's the beginning of a new phase for them in their relationship. Honestly, I'll never tire of these guys and I'm really looking forward to the next book, which will be Quinn's story. And I highly recommend this to those who love Mark and Quinn like I do.
So happy that Mann and Vincent are back in this series and more is being revealed about all the deceptions in both the WBIS and the CIA.
I enjoyed this one. This was a very Vincent driven book. You don't get a lot of him and Mann in this one. It's told all in Mark's POV. He's basically cleaning house in this one. Anyone who crosses him or his close friends that he considers family end up not breathing for long. He is just as deadly as the previous books and has no problem with putting people down that threaten the small group of people he has seemed to have collected as his own little family.
In his quest of cleaning up his department he comes across a sweet kitten he names, PITA. Pain In The Ass. I think it's adorable. I also think the way he is with the kitten is adorable. It was just another glimpse that this deadly character has a soft heart where it matters.
Although I enjoyed all the mayhem and chaos of Vincent getting back into his field work a bit and seeing him be the deadly man I loved so much from the previous books, I missed him and Mann. There isn't much of them together. But even through the phone calls between them you still feel the strong connection they have and the relationship between the two is never in question of how much they care for each other. I just love these guys together and I wanted to see more of them together on page.
I got this book;D I got this book......And I got this book now:D Me, all excited when I got this book....
Me, all excited while reading this book...
Me,a bit speculative after first chapter
Me,throwing tantrum after I finished it... B'coz I love Tinnean's Spy and Spook series and Mark and Quinn are my favorite. So to read more of them was awesome but this book was more of outside incident than Mark & Quinn.I was a tad disappointed. This was more a brush over story which jogged my memory through all the characters and events that took place in Spy and spook series with some additional perks. So now I am left with nothing of Mark and Quinn and have to wait for the next book.
Ok, NOW after those observations, let's talk about... MARK!!!
This story is the first self-published of the series, and I NOTICE the difference... this is the most romantic of all books! It's unusual, read a book from just Mark's POV, and a VERY romantic Mark. I was used to see the smart ass Mark, the ironic Mark, the angry Mark... but complete and totally in love with Quinton Mann NO! It's something new. AND I LOVED IT! Of course there is romance also in the previous books, but not in such details as this book!
Beside the romance, it's also a novel full of action like the previous 3 books? Yes and no Sorry, I must answer yes AND no because it's both... there is action, Mark is having serious problem inside the WBIS—Washington Bureau of Intelligence and Security. It's his responsibility deal with it... and for the first time I read a book that pick facts from some other books (I'm talking about the spin-off, the Ligh in your eyes series. Highly recommended, but not need to read it to understand Mark's story). I adored how this book was attentive to details, how Mark and Quinn's story intertwined with Theo and Will's. To fans of both couples this book will give a huge satisfaction!
Overall, what is my rating to this book? It's a 4 stars, not 5, for just one little fact... I miss all the humor of the last book (). Mark is serious, when he must be, he is a sicko, always (yeah, not just when he must be an agent... but he is an adorable sicko!)... and he is hilarious. But in this story he was so romantic and tired, dealing with all he crap in the WBIS that he didn't had the time to his twisted, but adorable, sense of humor during the narration. I missed it. I reeeeeeeeeeeally love this book, but missed all the jokes from .
Do I recommend it? Oh hell YEAH! After the Spy Vs Spook books you MUST read more. Mark is a sicko, the best agent WBIS, the man worried with his ex landlords, BUT most of all, he is Quinn's man... and that's why you can't stop reading... things are getting serious... and now... now we must go nuts, waiting more of them.... knowing Mark and Quinn WILL have to make serious decisions...As the world keeps spinning round and round, Mark must hold Quinn... his lover, his unmovable rock.
It was okay, but rather than focusing on Mark and Quinn , the book has so many different short tangents and doesn't have a concrete main story . So to me, rather than the continuation of Mark and Quinn's story, the book seems more like the author brainstorming opportunities for future volumes and spin-off stories.
As for the writing, some parts are extremely repetitive (a reminder every time Mark shut down his computer and put in the CD, spelling out every link to actions taken in previous books and repeating said links all throughout the book).
Overall, it was nice to get reacquainted with the series, but it was also a somewhat annoying and unsatisfying read.
I loved this book as much as I did the others in the first series. We got all of our favorite characters back and a chance to see Mark and The Boss in action a bit. I can't wait for the next couple of books as well. I was very happy with the progression of Mark and Quinn's relationship and am definitely looking forward to more! A must-read for Mark and Quinn fans!!!!
This was fun and exciting and I so so missed Mark and Quinn! This is a continuation of the author's Spy vs Spook series. This felt like coming back to check in on some fav guys, and i ate up every page!
I enjoyed this book but didn't love it, too much telling and not a lot of Mark and Quinn together. This story was mainly Mark's story and was told from his viewpoint. Loved the snark as usual and found myself chuckling quietly especially in the first half of the book
Mark and Quinn are one of my favorite couples, and I was so anxious for their exchange of some special words... and finally, finally, that happened, and I couldn't be more happy!!!!
This story is nearly 6 yrs old, but the story itself is new to me. I’m very glad I discovered it, since it’s very good and I enjoyed it.
It’s one of several books this author has in the same universe which is the only sticking point with the story. It relies heavily on previous books, references past events and characters from others books pop up constantly. I was lucky because I did read Houseboat on the Nile, which is part of another series, but it it’s chronologically before this one. That series is not republished yet in its entirety and I would definitely recommend reading it before this one.
Otherwise, I had a blast with the book. It’s fast paced, dialogue heavy and believer in instant gratification, as in, the bad guys are dealt with swiftly and decisively.
The whole story is in first POV from one of its main characters. Mark Vincent works for shadowy Agency and is unapologetic about his worldview. He is willing to do everything for his friends and those he trusts, and his enemies tend to have radically shortened lifespans. It’s simple and ruthless worldview, and the reason why everyone else in intelligence community considers him a sociopath. It also makes his fumbling on romantic front even more endearing. The romance story is more of a background, as he and Quinn are in established relationship. Mark has no problems risking his life and killing others, but he is shy when it comes to asking his lover to move in with him. It’s sigh worthy and now I’m curious as to what will happen in other books of the series.
Sincerely recommended, but I’d suggest reading other books in this universe first. I think it will make this one even better!
First of all, I kind missed Quinn's POV in this book. I know I complained about the shift in perspective and time in the previous books, but I did miss seeing Quinn's side too.
Secondly, in this book Quinn and Mark are finally feeling secure in their relationship. Which makes them less scorching hot together, and more sweet. And I felt that the chemistry between them was less evident in this book.
Since Mark and Quinn are now committed to each other (more or less), that puts the focus of this book less on them and more on the internal power struggles inside the WBIS that affects Mark. There's also a little mishap in Europe, with Pete and the Division, leaving
When in Europe Mark and Quinn also finds out that
I did enjoy this story, albeit a bit less than the previous three. But I will definitely be continuing Mark and Quinn's story...
First, if you have not read the other books in the Spy vs Spook series, DO NOT READ THIS ONE. Read the others and then come back to this one!
Love these two MCs, Mark and Quinn and all the supporting cast as well. They are complex, intelligent and entertaining characters. This book is all from Mark's POV which is a change. I enjoyed being in his delightfully twisted mind. I wish I could quote him but I was so into the story that I did not highlight anything. I can say that the pages light up whenever Mark and Quinn are together. This is chemistry. Even with a good well-written plot, the story just goes to another (wonderful) level when these two guys are together or just talking on the phone. Did I say that I love Mark and Quinn?
Never make Mark your enemy but if he is your friend, you are one lucky person. I won't say anything about the plot as I do not want to ruin anything. Just enjoy.
This will appeal to fans of the Spy vs Spook series who want to see more romance between Mark and Quinn.
While I missed the spice that the intrigue from the previous series had, I definitely enjoyed this continuation their love story. It was definitely time to see more of Mark and Quinn's relationship at this stage.
I loved how all the series were linked to each other (Spy vs Spook, The Light in Your Eye and Mann of My Dreams). While each series can be read on its own, there is an added appreciation that the reader will get if they read the books in publishing sequence.
This story really satisfied my craving to see more of the spy versus spook couple. I got to see a more tender side to their relationship. I also enjoyed seeing Mark's work life in more detail and how he dealt with his changing role in his organisation.
I don't know guys. This felt totally different then the past series. Maybe it's them being together flute a year now, or we didn't get Quinn point of view this time around. I liked the story don't get me wrong but I feel like this was two different gentler gentlemen then I'm used to. Hopefully book two is better.
I highly recommend not reading this book if one has not read the prior series.
This will be a 1 to 2 stars in my personal ratings. I rounded up on GdRds to the 2. This was due to there being a prior series - that I have not read, and maybe that made a huge difference. But, I had so many issues with this book I'm afraid I will not remember them all.
First, absolutely no where was there a warning in the blurb or reviews that reading the first series might be integral to this one. I have started in the middle of more than one series and not felt as "WTF?" as I did at the beginning of this "off shoot" series.
2nd issue - All the characters - if I had not been reading on my Kindle, I would have DNF this book. There were too many characters from the start. I'm sure they were from the previous series. But without that background, it was overwhelming and confusing - they'd be briefly mentioned in some reference to the past. And then when they came up again, I'd have to do a Kindle search of the book for their name. This was so I could see what had briefly been previously said about who they were etc.... For some, it was like I was already supposed to know who they were and no prior mention was given. One in particular, I had to make an assumption based on the context, and later learned that it was not completely accurate. I then still had no idea the connection or history of that character. It wasn't particularly relevant or important to the overall story, but enough references were made - that I really felt I was missing something. Nearly 2000 books read on my Kindle; I've rarely used that search icon for inside a book while reading. I bet I used it 7 times at a minimum during this reading and likely it was more.
3rd, I feel I have no idea who Quinn is as an m/c. Nothing was through his perspective. We saw nothing of his job. We were told some stuff, but all he did was cook and have sex plus meet with his mother. I felt I had a better idea who she was than him. There were large parts where he wasn't involved at all except for maybe a phone call. "The Boss" had a more integral role.
How does a huge crisis start at 95% and wrap up before the end? What was even the point? Which brings me to my 4th issue, the rate of incidents that would happen - just to be dealt with in a few pages like they were nothing. Most of the time we were being told what happened and only on occasion actually shown.
At the 95% major crisis, the previous crisis had barely wrapped up, and very little was done by the m/c. The references to Quinn's Uncles were vague. I was confused by what at first appeared to be our m/c's hostility toward them being there. I had very little idea or understanding about them - especially the references to a brief Ex wife who still lived on one's property with her new husband? Huh? Again, what was the point?
5th, I can't remember a book where I was told 85% or more of the time what happened versus shown. Of course, I guess that is how you start a major climax at 95% and wrap it up by the end, or try to cram all these characters into a new series that already have a history.
6th, The world building was seriously lacking. I was confused by the time period this was taking place. Floppy disks? I had No idea about various agencies or factions mentioned outside of the CIA. I eventually got somewhat of a handle on the WBIS, but who funded them? What was there actual purpose? Are they just an agency of "cleaners / assassins"?
I do not understand the purpose of starting this as a new series. Were there even any new characters other than the cat? (Which by the way, was the best part of this story.)
If one has read the prior series, maybe this book would be a good read as the reviews seem to indicate, but as a newcomer it was immensely frustrating and difficult to stay in the flow.i was constantly thrown out of the story and often felt "out of the loop".
Was it me, or did Quinn seem "girly" in this one? I mean, it's OK to be girly... and I love that he is a "mama's boy", I have one of those myself... but, where was my Quinn from before? I don't know, maybe it was just me... *shrugs shoulders*
Any whoo... Mark was there with his usual bad ass, in your face attitude with just a bit of his usual insecurities about his and Quinn's relationship... will that man NEVER learn? *headdesk* Bullets flying, knives welded, and not just by Mark and pants pissed... yep, just another day at the office! *grin*
I will be honest, this one felt more like Mark telling us stories from the past with a few new situations added in... but, that was OK, I enjoyed looking back and getting a few more details from the past!
This one cleaned up some messes, his boys just can't seem to stay out of trouble though through no fault of their own! It introduced some new characters that look to be a promising addition to Mark and Quinn's life and NEVER let it be said that Granger isn't all man, even when he is wearing a dress... he has been a busy boy in this one! ;p
The return of Mark and Quinn and some of the feelings I had from the first book which delighted me. It's gotten its humour back and with it some of the beloved characters such as Theo and Paul, which I'd like to see more of because they give a whole other depth to Marks character.
He doesn't want kids but he looks after the former rent boys as if they were his own siblings or children. A protective mother hen. And it's endearing to read about, even more so with the new addition of Pita, which I of course hope he will keep rather than gift away in the end.
Most of the book is from Marks point of view, but Quinns take on things returns in the next book. I liked the action and Mark and Quinns interactions, though I wish there would have been more. But I am greedy and in this book they have very little time together as everything surrounding Mark seem to blow up at once.
And with the introduction of another trio, this time in Marks company, it was the icing on a very enjoyable book.
