After the prologue, I was prepared to write off Donovan (Donny) Pate for the rest of the book. No way was this guy going to be able to redeem himself in my eyes. And, to make matters worse, Sofie Martin, who Donny had treated so abysmally, seemed to be the perfect doormat for him. This was not going to be the poignant, emotionally searing story I hoped it to be.

But it was. Try as I might, I couldn't hold onto my grudge with Donny. Nor could I continue thinking of Sofie as spineless and weak. What I first thought as weakness in her turned out to be kindness and innate sensitivity. What I believed to be cruelty and selfishness in him was only a mask to hide sadness, despair and self loathing.

It's a pretty great story to move me so gently from one extreme to the other emotionally. I didn't want to like this book after that prologue, determined that I'd just get through it. How wonderful that I ended up really liking Donny, Sofie and the story.

"She loved him. Loved him. Still.
He hugged her close and buried his face in her neck: 'Thank you'."

There's a reason why Jessica Lemmon is one of my favorite romance authors. Even more so, if possible, since the first book of this series and now after this incredible second book.
Her characters are real. They've had a bad childhood, so much stuff thrown at them and they're still up and fighting. Even if they feel like they don't deserve it.

I wanted to hate Donovan after the first few pages. I did. But as the book progresses you get that he's not the villain in this story. The villain is life and the cards he was dealt from an early age. Yes, sure, he could've handled it differently, or not at all, but the fact that he is flawed makes this book even better somehow.
Sofie is the sweet girl, who gives him his virginity and then has her heart broken by him. It would be easy saying this scarred her, but it actually scarred them both. And, as the blurb says, not all scars heal, and not all scars are bad ones.

This is a perfect second chance story. Donovan's story broke my heart, and Sofie healed his along with mine throughout this book.

It makes you believe love really is out there, even if you're messed up, if you think people are better off without you, and if you're not willing to believe you deserve to be happy. Because "Love is about getting what you don't deserve."

What an amazing book.

Coffee dates with Rescuing the Bad Boy.

First date:We learn about the first time Donovan Pate and Sofie Martin tangoed. Let us just say Donovan didn’t make the nice list and it changed both of them.Now we fast forward to the present and Sofie has created a wonderful business in town. Donovan has returned after his grandmother passed leaving him her estate. He plans to sell it and learns the house has been contracted out to host a charity event. Um, guess who is handling the event. *hehe* Yep, Sofie and oh how the sparks that fly when these two are in the same room. Right away, I am in lust over Donovan and looking forwarded to seeing these two tango.
Second date: I love how Lemmon weaves in secondary characters and already I see the promise of another romance with Sofie and Donovan’s friends. I already love the dance Lemmon is providing in Rescuing the Bad Boy but then she introduces a dog to the mix making me fall further. I loved the old estate and the youth group who is the recipient of the charity event. Friends and banter had me giggling. I laughed so hard at moments and was grinning from ear to ear. Donavon and Sofie cave into their needs and I suggest you get some oven mitts because these aresome of the sexiest, hottest scenes. Did I mention Donovan has tats? The story behind them will make you turn to mush, so grab a tissue and truffle.
Third date:The author does a wonderful job of fleshing out the characters and sharing their backstories particularly Donovan. He may be a bad boy, but it is all a façade and seeing what lies beneath will have you adding him as your latestbook boyfriend. I love second chance romances and on this last date, we faced a few bumps as our characters experienced growing pains but Lemmon more than made-up for it with a wonderful epilogue.

First off, it was a privilege to read this book. To say that I loved it would be an understatement of MASSIVE proportions. I was hooked from the very start. The opening was hot and sexy, and then heart breaking. The ability to pull this off is remarkable, and I found the whole thing to be brilliant. Jessica nailed it from the opening line to the sweet and incredibly sexy ending (because DONOVAN...that man has all the sexy).

As per usual Jessica had me laughing one moment, and then tearing up the next. I loved Donny. I loved Sofie. I loved Dog. I loved it all.

I hated this book! It starts out completely horribly, and I just couldn't get over it! Donovan was a complete, pardon my language, asshole! I couldn't understand why Sofie kept wanting to be with him when he treated her has shabbily as he did! The author used the guise of wanting to understand him, but honestly, if he treats you that badly on your first sexual encounter, then considers you nothing more than an inconvenience when he does return to town, then he's really not worth wasting your time on! This is the second disappointment for me by this author, but thankfully it will be my last. I'm deleting the books from my Kindle Library, and I don't think I'll continue with the series.

This one was better than the first one and featured a hero who had an abusive childhood, had the heroine inked on her and had been celibate for 7 years. I liked the h/H together and how we see them grow closer. The epilogue was a plus too.

Major spoilers ahead. Read at own risk.

I've been dying to read this book ever since I read Evan's book awhile back and it provided the prologue for this story in the back of Evan's story. Of coarse, I read it, and immediately wanted to pick this up and read about the love story between Donny and Sofie. In that prologue I was immediately intrigued and could see lots of potential in this story with lots of drama, angst, emotional highs and lows, and just overall intensity, which I absolutely love in romance. The prologue was the perfect set up for Donny's and Sofie's story, and I loved everything about it, and I wanted to read it. Unfortunately it took me months before I actually acquired this book. When I finally got it, I immediately dialed in and dove into the story.

Now this is part of the review that may seem a bit contradictory and it is but it was just the feelings that I had while reading it.

In the beginning, I was pumped for this book and so ready for it by this time that after I reread the prologue again, I went into the story. I was a little disappointed in the beginning if I am honest, it just was a little too drawn out for me from the point where they were reunited to the point that they finally kissed again after seven years. I was expecting a little bit more angst and fritiction between the two. Sparks flying, you know. And even though the attraction to each other was there, and it could be felt, there was less intensity than I expected especially considering their history. There was really no back and forth between them. Push or pull or anything like that. It was more of a denial of their feelings for one another and kind of keeping up this wall around one another so the other couldn't penetrate. The wall was there, but at the same time it wasn't a firm wall, meaning it came down, at least on her part, a little bit too easy even though he treated her like crap during their first time together. Cold. An ass really. I don't know how she forgave him so easily for what he did to her, but she did. I just thought there could have been more of a struggle on her part, which would've created that delicious tension and intensity that I was looking for and expected after reading the prologue. I believed he would have to do a lot of groveling and making it up to her for what he did in the past, and he didn't for the majority of the book.....

Until the end, then my mind got totally swayed about this story and really just flipped my view point of their love story and them as a couple on its head. I changed my mind because of the one scene where he finally did make up for his bad behavior by giving them a redo of their first night together. It was freaking beautiful and awesome, showing me that he truly did regret what he did and knew he had to make up for it. It was Donny's own version of groveling, and it was great. I loved everything about that scene. It made me swoon. It changed my opinion on Donny because he finally let go and showed that he did in fact have a heart and his heart belonged to Sofie. I wish more of the book was like that, but I understand why it wasn't. It was to show Donny's transformation from the first time they are together to the end when he realized how important Sofie was to him and how she helped changed him with her warmth and sweetness. She made him feel like he was at home for the first time in his life. She was the light that extinguished the darkness from his life, and he realized that she was it for him. He had to give to the night that she so deserved all those years ago. That whole scene just was a game changer for me and made my enjoyment of the story increase tenfolds. Everything just came full circle.

My expectations for this story were the biggest problem and nothing to do with the book or whether it was good or not. Because it was a very good book and enjoyable. It wasn't boring, or something that I was just skimming to get to the "good" parts. It was very well written. Just I wished they kissed a little earlier on then maybe pulled back after that. Get the action going. But it was still good.

Problem was that once again like Connor's book, I was comparing this one with Evan's, which I absolutely loved. I can't put my finger on why I loved Evan and Charlie's book so much but I did, and I wanted both Connor's and Donny's book to be just like that. That's unfair though because each book was their own entity with Connor and Donny being very different men with their own traumatic pasts that they had to live through which shaped how they related in their story and to their girls, so of coarse they would be different, but I don't know just Evan Downy did it for and set the bar high for those two heroes. Not that Connor and Donny didn't do it for me, but just Evan took the cake. So that kind of tweaked my feelings as I was reading along in the story.

I just thought that Donny and Sofie's history together would have taken more of a spotlight than it did. It did, but it didn't. I know that doesn't make sense. I think I couldn't understand why Sofie gave into him when he showed no indication that he had changed from their first time together. He used her, and her sweetness to make himself feel better, and I felt, at least before the scene where he groveled, that he was doing the same thing again. That he was just using her for his body's pleasure and nothing more. Okay, granted he had been celibate for seven years and hadn't been with another woman since the night with Sofie, but I still felt like he just wanted to get laid and to hell with consequences knowing full well that he was going to leave her behind again. It was selfish of him to do that to her.

She wasn't completely without fault either. What peeved me was that she allowed him to do it to her again with out really acknowledging or apologizing for what he did to her seven years ago or how he treated her after her first time. Okay, she loved him and wanted to be with him anyway that she could, but she could have at least had him fight for her and not make it so easy. As soon as he touched her, she fell apart and allowed him to do what he wanted to do. Okay, she was completely willingly, but she could have protested a bit more and not just weakly like she did.

I wanted more of the tension between them because of their first time. That butting of heads. That back and forth that would have created more friction and intensity between the two until there was an explosion between them (there were explosions between them, but I'll talk more about that later). He would have to fight to get near her and "win" her over again until she finally fell back into his arms again. That's what I wanted to see happen, and just seem him fight for her. But she made it too easy for him I thought.

However, that was part of her personality. She was very forgiving. Sometimes too forgiving I thought because she gave more than he did. He took. She gave him everything of herself while he allowed nothing aside from his body and again she allowed this to happen. But that was what made her a sweet and likable character at the same time. I felt for her, and what she was going through and just how giving she was. I don't think a lot of women would have allowed Donny back into their arms so readily after her treated her cruelly during her first time, not without groveling at least, but Sofie did. It showed her character and her strength. She never held a grudge against Donny even though she was in perfect right to do. She had more than enough justification, but she didn't. Once she decided to give into him, she did and with open arms never expecting more than the moment that they currently in. She gave to him. She gave him her sweetness. She gave her heart. She gave everything to him. She was there for him. She soothed him especially learning of the abuse he faced as a child, and then because she knew about the abuse she began to understand him and understood where he was coming from that day they were together. She never blamed him. She was never mad at him, and never treated him like he was beneath her or treat him horribly at all. She may have tried to remained guarded, but that was about it. For the most part with Donny she was an open book with him, giving everything that she had. And that was really endearing I thought, and I liked watching her on the page and her interaction with Donny. She was very likable, and just an enjoyable character. I think if she was anyone else or portrayed in a different way I don't think I would have liked her as much. I would have called her weak, a sap, or just get what she had coming to her after knowing that Donny was only giving her his body and nothing more. But because Sofie was Sofie, I liked her. She had more strength in her body than so other characters couldn't even imagine having. She was setting herself up for hurt, but she knew that and she went in with Donny all the way asking nothing in return except to be in his arms just for a little while and have that semi-closeness even though she wanted more. She was so kind and sweet. I loved her, and I just felt so bad that she was setting herself up for that hurt and going nowhere good. I was glad though that she got her first time redo because she deserved it. Actually she deserved a lot more.

Donny. I kind of stated what I thought about him above, but I want to say that I did feel for Donny and all he had to endure as a child. The abuse he faced at the hands of his father. I could understand why he was emotionally handicap and why he used other things to distract him especially that night seven years ago. He just wanted to pain to go away just for a little while. He had many scars both physically and mentally and Sofie was really the one to help heal them, which was beautiful to watch. He came to realize that and by the end he more than made up for what he did during their first time. I felt sorry for Donny, but at the same time there were time that I wanted to kick him in the seat of his pants too especially what he did after the redo scene that didn't make me happy. I also thought he was taking too much from Sofie without giving anything in return knowing how she felt about him, but at least he did acknowledge him. So I was a bit fifty-fifty with Donny. Sometimes I liked him and sometimes I didn't. But again he acted the way that he did out of the thick wall he built around himself so he wouldn't get hurt, which I got.

Gertie. Love Gertie. She was so adorable. Wished she was in it a bit more because the mutt truly touched my heart as did she touch Sofie and Donny. I just snuggle up with that dog. It made me weep at the thought of her being abused just like Donny was abused. I liked how Jessica Lemmon used Gertie to show similarities between the dog and Donny and how abuse manifested and how Donny understood what happened because he went through the same thing. I loved how he took her in and gave her a little TLC even though he didn't believe he had it in him. Him taking in the dog and soothing Gertie was a part of Donny that I liked.

Now let's talk about the sexy times. Oh my goodness, there were a lot. It was a fire that wouldn't be put out between these two. As soon as they both decided to go for it, they went for it, and for it hard. There were on every imaginable surface in that mansion, or so it seemed, because they couldn't keep their hands off of each other. Now, for Sofie it was clear that she was acting out of love while Donny more or less it was or lust, or that was the part he was willing to acknowledge I will say, and at times he seemed he was just getting his rocks off, but it made the encounters no less passionate or sexy. I mean they were boiling hot together. It put in a sweat. And did it a lot. That honestly was where they book picked up. Their chemistry exploded. It was intense, and all that sexual tension was released. It was good. They were good together, and even though they had some steamy, hot scenes together that were fast and furious.

My favorite scene, as mentioned above, was the whole redo scene. It was passionate yet sweet and tender. This was the first time where I could that they both had an emotional connection to one another. It was intimacy at its finest, and it was beautiful. Like I said this whole scene made me change my mind about the book completely. It was a needed scene not only for the characters, but for as a reader because it was so much more than just time between the sheets. It was emotional. There was forgiveness. And it was finally the time when Donny made up for his bad doings from their first time. He made up for his wrong doings in that one scene and acknowledged how wrong he was, but all in that scene he became more vulnerable and emotional and kind of stripped back the layers and let Sofie really see him for the first time, and I absolutely loved that. That scene just worked really well and pulled the story together. It was beautiful. I loved it. This scene just made the book a winner in my opinion.

I enjoyed the epilogue and glad that was included. It was cute to see Sofie and Donny's future together and how much in love they still were with each other. That connection and bond with them was still firmly rooted and it was really nice to see. I wish there was a little more, but the glimpse was worth it.

Overall, I really did enjoy the book. It started off a little bumpy for me but then just gradually went up as they got closer and closer together as time went on. It was less about the physical and more about the connection that they shared. By the time they got to the do-over scene I was hooked and sold. The whole book made sense after that scene. I wished there was a bit more tension and butting of heads in the book where Sofie would have fought Donny more before finally giving in, but that wasn't her as a person, and she never would have done that to him. She wouldn't have tested him and made a choice to follow her heart see where it lead her even if it was heartache. I respect that. I wish she didn't have to go through heartache, but that was just who she was, and I liked she was this strong, independent woman that was making choices for her and not based on anyone else. And she chose to open her arms to Donny and give him her love even if he didn't want it. She took what she could get. But I would have liked to have seen the back and forth because I think that would have increased the intensity between these two even more and that would have brought it to a different level, I think. But the book was still really good. I got through it very easily. I didn't quite expect that story that was being told, and I thought it would go a different way especially having read the prologue all those months ago, and having read Connor's book not too long ago, which that book comes after this one, but it didn't make it that less enjoyable just didn't quite earn my love. My intense like, yes, but not my love.

Still love my Charlie and Evan the most, but that could change with book number four featuring Gloria and Asher. I can't wait to read Asher's story. I hope I am not disappointed and my expectations are met. They tough shoes to fill, and I am expecting a lot. Just saying. The bar is set. They just have to meet them.

After reading the first book in this series last year Jessica Lemmon went immediately on my must read author list so I was more than happy to read and review Rescuing the Bad Boy. I really appreciate authors who when writing a series can surprise the readers by changing the tone of the books within the series. This book had a much more serious feel to it than the last book; the hero had some big time baggage and scars from his childhood, the heroine was still reeling from an encounter they had 7 years prior and on top of that they pretty much had to figure out a way to work together as she was planning an event that his late grandmother had sponsored prior to her death. This was a highly emotional story but it was also one of acceptance, change and learning to not let the past dictate your future. It was one man's journey in learning to appreciate the friendships he had and believe in the love he didn't think he deserved. It was one woman's journey of letting go, of staying strong knowing she was fighting a battle she might not win and being the one person who saw and accepted everything inside the man she loves. This love story was a struggle; at times it was hard to watch, at times it was fun but in the end it was so very satisfying to know that everything they went through paid off in spades.

For a good portion of this book I was not a fan of Donovan Pate and his alphahole ways; I'm just going to put it out there the man was an ass when he was younger and he starts this book off not much better. As his story unfolds it becomes obvious that he acts the way he does because it is the shield he's built around him to protect himself. I'm not condoning some of his behavior but I can better understand it and so it was pretty damn satisfying to watch as his friends and the woman he hurt years ago begin to chip away at that shield and make him see life a little differently even if he does so kicking and screaming.

There is so much to like about Sofie Martin and so much of it has to do with her can do attitude and her very upbeat and sunny disposition. I really think anyone would have a hard time not liking Sofie. I have to admit I loved the way she stood up to Donovan when he reentered her life and put up such a strong front even when she was breaking inside. I also felt for her as she tried to resist the fact that despite many years being near Donovan brought forth her strong feelings for him and the fact that despite her best efforts she couldn't stay away.

It was really interesting to watch these two go through the months with Donovan working on the mansion for sell and Sophie getting it ready for the big fund raiser his late grandmother had planned. The tiptoed around each other a little, they tried not to talk about the past too much but it was there and they fell into a sexual relationship that they both knew had an expiration date but all the while they were learning so much about each other and those pesky feelings got in the way. I loved that their friends were there for them when they needed someone to help them through a rough patch, when they needed a shoulder or just to give them a good kick in the a$$ because after all that's what friends do when you are being stupid. I won't lie and say that I wasn't disappointed in Donovan's behavior at times because I was but I also enjoyed watching him figure out the mistakes he'd made discover that he had the power to change his life for good.

A completely engaging story from beginning to end with characters that leap off the page and grab hold of your heart; this is a romance worthy of a Lifetime movie just like it's predecessor...so Hollywood if you are reading this take note!

The Second Chance series by Jessica Lemmon is one that, once it gets its hooks into you, it refuses to let you go. The first book in the series, Bringing Home the Bad Boy, was a solid 4 Star read that I had a few minor issues with (mainly that I wished the titular bad boy was more deserving of the moniker) but what made me anxious to read the follow-up novel, Rescuing the Bad Boy, was a need to discover if the romances that had been teased between various supporting characters would come to fruition. The romance between protagonists Donovan Pate and Sofie Martin was one I was particularly intrigued by and Rescuing the Bad Boy did not disappoint. Within just a few pages, my stomach was erupting in a swarm of angry bees and my eyes burned with unshed tears. I figured if just the introduction to the two main characters could evoke such a powerful reaction from me, then the rest of the book would be just as heartbreaking, if not more so and I was right.

I wanted a bad boy and I got my wish and then some with Donovan, to the point where my initial reaction was to despise his character. Donovan's mind was a dark and twisted space to inhabit but the more I got to know his character, the more I understood where he was coming from. This book tackled a sensitive subject one that shaped Donovan's character, not excusing his bad decisions and standoffish behavior, but providing insight into his thoughts and actions regarding Sofie. Second Chance is a perfect title for this series because this book is about giving Donovan and Sofie a second chance at realizing the magnitude of their connection.

Like its predecessor, Rescuing the Bad Boy is a character-driven narrative, with the romance between Donovan and Sofie at the heart of the story. The author forges such an intense connection between these characters, dragging their feelings so close to the surface that I keenly felt the impact of their emotionally-charged exchanges, from the anger and resentment stirred up within Sofie upon Donovan’s return to the pulse-pounding excitement of them finally giving in to their mutual attraction, and to the gut-churning fear of history repeating itself. The two have a palpable chemistry that results in several sizzling encounters, but it’s their emotional connection that tugged at my heartstrings and fighting back the improbable combination of angry, sad, and happy tears.

As much as I enjoyed Bringing Home the Bad Boy, it was missing that indefinable spark that makes you want to devour a book in one sitting because you can't go another minute without knowing what happens next. With Rescuing the Bad Boy, my eyes were glued to my Kindle screen as I followed the progression of Donovan and Sofie’s tumultuous relationship. The prologue, the epilogue, and everything in between were nothing short of amazing beautifully written, emotionally-gripping and thought-provoking. The intensity of my reaction to Rescuing the Bad Boy took me completely by surprise, but I enjoyed every minute of this emotional roller coaster of a book.

5 "Straight through." Stars

Jessica Lemmon has quickly become a favorite author of mine. Sitting down with one of her titles is like soothing away any worries. You're able to escape in the richness of her prose consumed by the beauty of her story. Rescuing the Bad Boy is a feel good contemporary romance told from the third person POV. It's the kind of love story that makes readers feel everything for the characters. Her recipe of hot, brooding, alpha male coupled with a strong, fiery female thrust together after seven years of not seeing each other forced to work together for a charity that touches both of them well let's just say the story will make you smile, laugh, and just feel really good - romance perfection.

As the second book in the Second Chance series it can definitely be read as a stand alone since the two main characters are different. I wouldn't personally recommend it because book one is equally as awesome and on my must read list. The star of this show this bad boy, Donovan Pate, has been gone from Evergreen Cove for 7 years after a tumultuous and tragic upbringing. His escape meant from the Cove his only refuge in a bleak life no matter the cost. Sofie Martin has been living with his ghost in a sense for those same 7 years. His sacrifice of departure was Sofie whose proverbial scars never fully healed. When Donovan returns to the cove these old hurts are unwrapped from their tightly sealed bandaging as the two navigate the still present, extremely fiery passion between them. Lemmon writes their banter, their chemistry, and their vulnerabilities with such precision you feel all of their emotions.

This author excels at romance story telling. Her story structure remained solid throughout the book never lingering on unnecessary details. She doesn't create angst for her characters but rather provides a safe place for them to grow together and explore the undeniable connection between them where the angst and conflict naturally flows. Their personalities compliment each other so well and with much to overcome. That's where the natural conflict stems. And the way they do that is organic, sweet, and vital to the enjoyment of this story.

If you love contemporary romance you don't want to miss this Second Chance series by Jessica Lemmon. Her writing and story telling prowess will leaving your reading hearts beyond satisfied. If you're a Kristen Ashley lover or a lover of awesome alpha males and strong feisty heroines you don't want to miss the titles of Jessica Lemmon. Rescuing the Bad Boy introduced me to a new alpha I can swoon over, a heroine I admire, plus expanded upon the cast characters from Evergreen Cove I grew to love in book one. I can't wait to continue on with the rest of the series.

I have really enjoyed Jessica Lemmon's books in the past and was looking forward to another "bad boy" story. Bad boys seems to hold a special place in my heart, so when the opportunity arose to read Donovan and Sofie's story, I jumped at the chance. Rescuing the Bad Boy is a book about second chances. Sofie and Donovan knew each other when they were younger and she had a huge thing for him. He was always drawn to her, but knew she was a "good girl," and he definitely was anything but good, so he stayed away. One night changed everything for them, ending on a very bad note. Because of his past, Donovan has been a runner, and ran away from the town and family that had done him so wrong. Now, 7 years later, Donovan is forced back into town on family business and right back into the path of Sofie Martin. A charity event forces them to work together and the attraction that Donovan felt for Sofie 7 years ago, is even stronger than he remembered. Donovan broke Sofie's heart all those years ago, so she is determined to stay away from him, a feat that proves to be much easier said than done. As these two work together, they get to know each other better and Sofie learns about Donovan's past and the reason why he is the way he is. Still oozing with sex appeal and hottness, she finds herself once again falling for this bad boy that she also would love to save.

Rescuing the Bad Boy is fun, romantic, and proves to be one of those stories that you just want to curl up into your chair and relax with, tuning the world and all its goings on out for a few hours. Jessica Lemmon has done an excellent job of taking a story concept that is far from new, adding her own twist while creating memorable and engaging characters that you just can't help but love. She hen mixes it with humor, romance, chemistry, and some serious issues as well, creating a fresh and entertaining story that contemporary romance fans will love. Definitely add this to your TBR list.

"Rescuing the Bad Boy" was truly amazing and I completely fell in love with the storyline and characters from the very beginning. I honestly didn't know if I would enjoy the second book in the Second Chance series as much as I did the first one, but Jessica Lemmon managed to blow my expectations right of the water. I absolutely loved reading every minute of it, and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. I completely fell in love with Sofie and Donovan, and I loved their personalities and chemistry together. They were a perfect match and I am so thrilled to have been able to read their incredibly heartwarming and romantic story. I definitely had a lot of feels in this book. :) I loved Ms. Lemmon's writing style, and how the book was told from both Sofie and Donovan's alternating POV. I also thought the secondary characters were wonderful, and I loved seeing some familiar faces from previous books/series by the ever-so-talented, Jessica Lemmon. The ending was perfect and I thought the epilogue was the icing on the Devil Dog cake. ;) "Rescuing the Bad Boy" was absolutely phenomenal, and I cannot possibly sing enough praises for it. I am completely in love with the Second Chance series, and I cannot wait to read Faith and Connor's story in "A Bad Boy for Christmas!"

Seven years ago Sofie Martin's heart was broken. She knew better than to fall for bad boy Donovan Pate. So after losing her virginity to Donny and him promptly leaving town, she all but gave up on finding the right guy for herself.

Donovan Pate left Evergreen Cove seven years ago, leaving behind memories that left scares both physically and mentally. What he never expected was Sofie Martin. The one person who had reached out and shown him she cared, really cared, and that scared him to death. Now he finds himself back where he never wanted to step foot again, the house that holds bad memory with a hellish childhood and dealing with the one person he never meant to hurt...Sofie.

As the two are forced to work together for a charity event, the two start to reconnect in ways that neither of them thought possible. Will it be enough? Can old wounds be healed?

Donovan and Sofie are both broken and as they open up to each other, you see the healing begin. The only problem is that Donny doesn't feel he's worthy of Sofie and her love.

Full of hurt, passion, love and redemption, Rescuing the Bad Boy will take you on a journey of finding one's self while learning to give yourself away. My heart was happy for Donny and Sofie after finishing up Rescuing the Bad Boy and can't wait for more from this series!

3 Stars..!

Good plot
A little Predictable
Good Heroine( Its soo hard to find not a frustrating one these days..! )
Great Premise
Loved a little more Evan and Charlie

BUT,

I really didn't understand all that fuzz over a one night stand. I mean it was like he bailed on ten year relationship or something.
I think the hero had a much more intimate relationship with Denial than our heroine.
And, the end was not-so-grand.
Frankly, the book was like opening a champagne. All that good fuzz and then it just fizzles out.

I expect a lot more from Asher and Glo's story.... Damn it! I deserve a good one..!!

I am obsessed with this series! Solid sequel and the Bad Boy, Donovan Pate, is lust worthy. He's a jackass but Sofie managed to reform him.

This was my first Jessica Lemmon book. As you know, I’ve become a huge fan of Shannon Richard’s and since she and Ms. Lemmon are besties I was easily persuaded to try out Rescuing the Bad Boy. And, of course, I’m glad I did.

Sophie would love nothing more than to forget the night she lost her virginity. It was amazing and horrendous. But the horrible outweighed the good and, seven years later, not thinking about it is completely working for her. But then Donovan Pate walks into her office and the past comes crashing back.

Donovan Pate wants absolutely nothing to do with Evergreen Cove. He’d rather not live in the home and town where his late father abused him regularly. When he inherits his family’s estate, his plan is to go to town, sell it (he already has a buyer) and then moving back to his life in New York. What he doesn’t plan on is an annual charity dinner that is being planned and the event is at the house he so desperately wants to get rid of. A charity dinner that not only raises money for a group home for abused kids but is also planned by the local event planner. The never forgotten (no matter how much he tries), Sofie Martin.

Even thoug Donovan would love nothing more than to cut and run, he can’t, in good conscience, put a stop to supporting a charity that he fully supports. That and an iron clad contract won’t let him. So he agrees to hold off on selling the house until the charity dinner is done. Over the next few months Sofie and Donovan skirt each other at the Pate Mansion. Sofie planning a party and Donovan cleaning it out and fixing it up for its new owner. Of course, skirting each other doesn’t really work and soon they are openly fighting their attraction to each other.

No matter how much the two of them try to protect themselves there is no denying the connection between the two of them. A connection that is much more important than either of them want to admit. They each have to decide if they can overcome the past in order to have a future with each other.

At first there was a part of me that had difficulty understanding the residual angst between Sofie and Donovan. It had been seven years since they had seen each other and they had both moved on with their lives. But then I realized they hadn’t really moved on at all. Sure, Sofie is succeeding in her career. Her family is a bit crazy but she loves them. And sure, she’s had her share of relationships. But none of them have worked out long term and she is completely honest about the fact that she hasn’t had a connection with anyone like the way she did with Donovan Pate. Then there is Donovan. On the outside he’s moved on. Moving away from Evergreen Cove and making a name for himself as a mason worker. But dig a bit deeper and you find out he’s made some pretty drastic changes to his private life after that night he spent with Sofie.

All of a sudden it wasn’t so hard to understand all that underlying tension between the two of them. It was there and it was REAL. On top of that there is Jessica Lemmon’s story telling abilities. She has a way of pulling a reader in. Even if I had never understood the lasting angst, I would have been drawn to these two main characters. The chemistry between them positively leapt off the page.

Needless to say, this was a great introduction to Jessica Lemmon’s writing and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series as well as her backlist.

"It's okay to look like a fool. It's okay to hope against hope. It's okay to put yourself on the line, go the extra mile, even if it's futile. It's okay to see potential where everyone else sees failure."

Rescuing The Bad Boy follows the story of Donovan and Sofie. Seven years ago, Sofie and Donovan shared what was supposed to be a special night for Sofie. Sofie gave Donovan a piece of herself that she never shared with anyone. However, Donovan's head was not in the right place. He just wanted to loose himself in Sofie and was not at all prepared for what she gave him....

Now, seven years later, Donovan has returned home. He wants to sell the mansion he's inherited. However, the sale will have to wait a little while, because Donovan will have to uphold a contract that was already made for a charity fundraiser. This charity fundraiser will bring Donovan and Sofie together again. Donovan broke Sofie's heart all those years ago. She vows that she won't let him get to her. She will work on the fundraiser and keep things professional. However, the more time these two spend together, the harder staying professional becomes. Will Sofie be able to stay away from the bad boy? Will Sofie risk her heart and once again fall for the bad boy?

I really enjoyed Rescuing The Bad Boy. I liked the idea of the story and found it to be captivating. I wasn't the biggest fan of Donovan in the beginning.I hated the way that he treated Sofie. But, as time went on and I got to know him, I began to understand his actions. Donovan's life growing up with anything but easy. He was treated so badly and endured things that no child should have to. Those things left some pretty deep scars and made Donovan feel unworthy of love and nice things. Sofie was a game changer for him. She made him want and feel things that he never did before. It messed with his head, confused him. Made him make some really dumb mistakes. And Sofie....just as sweet as ever. She has the biggest heart. She's so forgiving and so hopeful. She wants to hate Donovan for the way he treated her. But, as she discovers more about Donovan, she discovers things aren't as black and white as they appear. That sometimes maybe the things that hurt us are worth the fight.

Rescuing The Bad Boy was a quick and easy read for me. I thought it was a wonderful second chance romance. The characters were fun, and easy to relate to. I loved the angst/drama and romance. This is the second book in the Second Chance series and can be read as a stand-alone. This is my first book by Jessica Lemmon, and it won't be my last.

I was introduced to Jessica Lemmon's books by Anna over at Herding Cats and Burning Soup, and loved the first book in the Second Chance series, Bringing Home the Bad Boy. I have been eagerly awaiting this next book in the series.

Donovan had to left Evergreen Cove seven years ago and had planned on never coming back. Not even for his grandmother's funeral. But she got the last word in, because he couldn't sell the family mansion until after a final commitment to use it's ballroom for a charity event. So he was back, just long enough to squash that that deal and make sure the house was ready to be sold an turned into a Bed & Breakfast. Except he didn't plan on running into Sofie.

Sofie had loved young Donny, and had her heart broken by him, all those years ago. She had moved on, but he still held a special place in her memories and heart. Sofie planned on maintaining a cordial, yet distant relationship with Donovan. But seeing him through adult eyes, she sees things she missed all those years ago. Things that completely change her perceptions about the boy he was and the man he is today.

Donovan, though mentioned, was not in the previous book, which I found interesting. Normally when a series is linked by characters, the next book is someone introduced in a prior book. So I was expecting this to be the "billionaire rockstar" bad boy's book. Instead we got Donny, a man who uses rocks and stones to create, had a hellish childhood and has a more tender heart than he wants to admit. When he tells Sofie about his tattoos and scars, and admits to why he got the infinity symbol, my heart totally melted into goo.

Evan and Charlie were in this book, and it was nice being able to catch up with them and see them through different eyes. At this point, I believe we have now met all 4 of the 'penis bandit' bad boys and I can't wait to see who the author pairs up in the next book. Whoever it is, I am sure will be another awesome read. I really enjoyed the depth and facets of these characters and gave this 5 stars.

Thank you to Forever Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review the book.

A Second Chance Romance done right! Jessica Lemmon takes you on an emotional journey of seven years lost between these two slightly broken characters, and makes you believe that everyone has a lid to their pot!

Donovan is the broody guy that Sofie had a crush on, who "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am's" her and leave's town. Only after the death of his father and grandmother, does he come back to fix up the old family mansion and get the heck out of dodge.

Sofia happens to be in contract to use the mansion for an upcoming fundraiser for abused children, and the cause is close to Donovan's heart (and past....so sad). And Gertie...Donovan's pup....they are two lost souls that found each other...and they both fall for Sofie!

The sexual tension could be split with a knife, and the journey these two take together is a little bit magical! I kind of love this series and all the characters that have romances that are next in the series!

I think it's time for you to do your OWN Binge Read of the Second Chance Series!

Loved! This! Book! The story is incredible and the writing is spectacular! Rarely can an author make me loathe a character so quickly and have me love him so deeply at the end. Donovan who appears to be the baddest of bad boys turns out to be one of the most loving and caring men around. Now Sofie just needs him to believe it. This is a great read and everyone needs it on the must read list. I highly recommend it.

Summary

Donovan Pate, has returned to Evergreen Cove, a lake town but also a place that is packed full of bad memories that he is going to have to face if he wants closure...he plans on sticking with his motto "Straight Through". Donny hates what the memories have done to him when his grandmother's estate needs to be sold, Donny knows that he has little choice in returning, if for a little while. But there is a catch, his grandmother made a contract with Sofie Martin to run a charity fundraiser at the mansion, a charity for children struggling with abuse. Donny knows he can't refuse and he can't resist Sofie Martin and what she has always meant to him despite the horrible way he treated her seven years ago. Sofie is a event planner and has been working hard to make sure this charity fundraiser goes off without a hitch. But when Donny returns home, she is full of mixed feelings. Her first time had been with Donny and at first it was beautiful and then it ended up being the worst night of her life. But both Donny and Sofie will have to go Straight Through the bad memories and create happy ones, and they find rebuilt trust but will their love be enough to create their own future and not the one fate designed for them?

The Hero
Donovan Pate suffered from horrible abuse at the hands of his father. His mother left them when he was young, and his grandmother never did anything to help him. Over the years, his body is covered in tattoos to cover the scars and the horrible memories that still haunt him. Donny left Evergreen Cove as soon as he could, and built a life for himself in New York, even if its a bit of a lonely life. When it becomes apparent that he will have to return to the one place he despises, he decides to just stick with his motto "Straight Through" and he will be able to overcome anything that still haunts him.
But he wasn't one to avoid the monsters lurking in the dark. He preferred to deal with things head on. Cheaper than therapy.

But as he starts to work on getting the mansion ready to be sold, every room reminds him of the bad times, of the horror and the pain he suffered as a little boy. Donny is a hero that just about broke my heart. He is tough and has done certain things to protect himself since no one ever protected him when he needed it most. At first I really didn't like him, because of the way he treated Sofie at first, but as the story progresses, you see how much suffering he has been dealt and I was won over to just love his character. He has that "tortured male" going on and it definitely appealed to me. I love a character that is tough and strong and willing to face the bad in order to get some of the good in life.
The Heroine
Sofie was a virgin seven years ago, when she saw Donny and he took her to the library in his mansion, and she always thought that there would be some positive memories for her first time. However, once he realizes that she is a virgin, he practically kicks her out the door. Sofie still after this long time, is hurt by what Donny did to her because she fell in love with him that night and despite her pain, she still does.
She couldn't afford to love him. She couldn't afford to give him another single part of her. Not after he'd taken the part she hadn't realized was precious until she'd trusted it with him.

Sofie is an event planner and has made a prestigious business for herself. She isn't as close to her family as she would like, but she is a 'daddy's girl' and that relationship does play a part in this book. Sofie is strong and independent, but she also is lonely at times and wants to find love again. What I liked most about Sofie was how she stands up to Donny. She is zesty and spirited, and I loved how she stands firm on what she believes in and doesn't let his bad boy attitude change anything.
Plot and Story Line
Rescuing The Bad Boy is the first book I have ever read from Jessica Lemmon, and dang but it was superb. At first it started out a bit slow, but it picked up pace pretty quickly and I was hooked within a couple chapters. It begins with these two meeting and having sex, and not exactly a night to sing about but it really sets the tone for the story and helps the reader understand what happened seven years previous and I enjoyed this aspect because it really adds more of an emotional tune to the story that I felt is needed if you want to delve deep into this one. At first when these two meet again, they have sparks but they are at opposite ends of the argument and neither wants to back down from the fight. I really enjoyed the "second chance" romance trope that is found in this story, and from what I can gather every book in the series has this theme. I was really captivated by the connection that these two have with each other. It isn't an easy one or light-hearted one, its full of tough emotion, but this is the part of the book I loved the most. I couldn't help but fall for both of these characters, both have healing to do and we see how it happens with them working together on the charity event. Now I want to talk about the chemistry these two have going...which boy is it hot.
Donovan ignored the warnings in his head. Now that he was drinking Sofie in, her warm half naked body pressed against his, there was no stopping. There was nothing he wanted more than to taste her, to feel her against him. There was only Sofie and there was only him and the scorching heat burning between them.

They definitely have some great sparks, and they don't struggle with each other too much to just let it happen. I had a jolly time seeing them work through their issues and stumble a bit, but they get right back up and fight. I felt the supporting characters really added some more power to the story and livened it up more.
His friend's eyes cut past him. "Giant mattress."

"Huge"

Connor gave him a shit eating grin. "You bought her a bed."

"Piss off. I bough A bed."

"To sleep with her in."

Donovan was sick of fighting one structural impediment or another. He wanted to lay her down and take the time to do the things he wanted to do to her.

And there were a lot of things.

"Lotta room to groove," Connor put in.

"Don't you have something to mulch?" Donovan grumbled

"Yeah, yeah," He turned to leave.

Donovan followed, but before he flipped off the lights, he studied the big, spacious bed again. And thougt of Sofie on it.

Acres of room to groove.

And the dog..."Gertie" she totally won me over. I do love it when authors implement animals into stories, and it added that touch of sweet to help balance the story out in a harmonious way. Definitely can't wait to read the first book now.
The Cover
Is that men drool worthy sexy or what ladies? I mean, I am not all for tats unless they are done just right, but boy that man I would take any day or night!! He definitely makes that shirt look yummy!!
Overall View
Rescuing The Bad Boy is a stunning romance that just had me craving more....I loved the bad boy, the feisty heroine, the sweet "Gertie", the lively friends and the kids. A tale of love, redemption, and healing. SIMPLY FANTASTIC!!

He was inside her, wrapped in her from head to toe. And right now, she was everything he needed.

Yes, this bad boy is definitely good

Though, at first meeting I hardly thought so. Donovan Pate, on the surface, is the epitome of the bad boy. He is young, brash and all the ladies are attracted to his beautiful smile and sexy banter.

Sofie Martin is not immune and when they work together at the Wharf, sparks fly during every encounter. Despite his nonchalant attitude, Donny is hiding a lot of anger and pain which comes out in, to put it mildly, unproductive ways.

Driven apart, the two separate for years before reuniting in the town where it all began. Forced to face his childhood and the bitter memories he holds, Donny Donovan also must deal with what happened with Sofie. Together again, sparks continue to fly as they both look back and deal before moving forward.

I LOVED this book which I devoured in one sitting. Donny was dealing with horrific childhood memories which shaped everything about who he is now as an adult. A feeling of self-worth is something he continues to struggle with and can be seen in every relationship he has.

“Gentle. Caring. Soft. No wonder he’d freaked out.

Hearing his story had me totally gutted in spots and only liking him more as his soft, caring side peeked through. I loved how Sofie didn’t let Donny off the hook for his behaviour but at the same was this loving, compassionate person who heard with her heart.

Oh yes, the heartstrings were tugged in many spots as the author also threw in rescued puppies, incredible children and supportive families to the mix. Despite the serious theme there was also laughter and love in equal measure.

There is a large group of supporting characters in this book, in this series, so I definitely will have to go back and read what I missed. The hunky gardener’s story is also coming soon I can’t wait. This was definitely a misty, funny, sexy, shining five-star read! ~ Diane, 5 stars

~~~
So apparently I need to move to Evergreen Cove! They have a surplus of super sexy, bad boys just waiting to find their “one and I am ready!
Rescuing the Bad Boy is the second story set in the Cove and focused on Donny and Sofie. It was such a sweet, steamy, funny story, one I thoroughly enjoyed!
After a horrible one night stand between Donny and Sofie, they are thrown together again seven years later. The chemistry between them was sizzling then, continued to be years later and neither could deny it.
“His gaze was like a caress, like a hand physically touching her skin. It’s always been like this between them. Always. Even when she tried to resist him.
This story was full of so much emotion. Donny had such a horrific childhood and watching him figure out how to let anyone in, how to love, how to feel deserving was incredible. And Sofie was such a kind-hearted, caring person, full of so much hope and belief. She was a perfect match to Donnie, even when he pushed her away.
“Love is about getting what you don’t deserve.
I loved that we were able to see so many of the secondary characters from the first book; Evan, Asher, and Charlie as well as some new ones, Connor and Faith. Their friendships are amazing!
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry, cheer and love, look no further. Jessica has a way of making you feel like you are part of the crew. I look forward to Connor’s story next! ~ Tiffany, 4.5 stars
*I won an ARC of the book from a giveaway*
Having a sneak peek of Donny and Sofie on the first book was a delight. But being inside their story was all kinds of hot, gripping, fun, and inspiring! Jessica Lemmon certainly knows how to keep a reader interested because I cannot put this book down when I started reading it!
He'd fractured her heart seven years ago; now he obliterated it.
Donovan Pate was back in town for business, not to revisit his dark and painful past. But when he was reunited with Sofia Martin, he was reminded that not all things about his past were dark and painful. One of them was a hot-as-hell-brunette with the best a** in the world.
Donny appeared to be a brooding and uncaring hero on the start of the book. He appeared not to care. He appeared stodgy and serious all the time. But as the story progresses, I came to see how much of a lovable character he was. He cared a lot, helped a lot, and was such a softie. I was so drawn to his back story, and savoured every little moment when Sofie uncovered every story drawn in his body. I loved the mix of dark and lightness in his character. The author did a wonderful job in balancing his charm, wit, heart, and heat.
She couldn't afford to love him. She couldn't afford to give him another single part of her. Not after he'd taken the part she hadn't realized was precious until she'd trusted it with him.
Sofie Martin rarely gave in to her wants. There was only one moment when she allowed herself to want something...someone...so fiercely, passionately, wholly. And she ended up with a broken heart. Now that bad boy was back in town. And the moment he entered her shop, all she thought of doing was losing her heart to him all over again.
Sofie was an easily likable character. Her genuine smiles and her sunny attitude made her irresistible. But like all of us, she shared her own insecurities and irrationalities that made her character more real and relatable. She loved with all her heart, worked hard more for the people who depended on her than for herself, and she was always ready to help others. No, Sofia Martin was not a weak and delicate heroine. It just so happened that her strength was her big heart, full of space for understanding and love. Something Donny badly needed...
“They say war is hell. So is love.
The flow of this story was so flawless and pleasantly stimulating. From the start to the end, I found no scene that made me want to skip. Every page was essential, every scene gripping and poignant. The character chemistry was instantaneous, and covered hot and passionate throughout the whole book. Miss Jessica’s writing prose is gentle and easy, but the story was poignant and contained more than just the depth of love but also the depth of the characters and their lives. It made me feel a lot. And God, do I hunger for books that make me feel.
I was held captive by this book for hours, not knowing what it was to stop, completely seized by the story, the characters, and the wonderful prose of the author. Jessica Lemmon sums up everything I love in a good romance!
