Filled with passion, suspense, heartbreak, and hope, Calder Storm is an enthralling story about an unforgettable American family as bold as the land they love.
Janet Anne Haradon Dailey was an American author of numerous romance novels as Janet Dailey (her married name). Her novels have been translated into nineteen languages and have sold over 300 million copies worldwide.
Born in 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa, she attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska before meeting her husband, Bill. Bill and Janet worked together in construction and land development until they "retired" to travel throughout the United States, inspiring Janet to write the Americana series of romances, where she set a novel in every state of the Union. In 1974, Janet Dailey was the first American author to write for Harlequin. Her first novel was NO QUARTER ASKED.
She had since gone on to write approximately 90 novels, 21 of which have appeared on the New York Times Bestseller List. She won many awards and accolades for her work, appearing widely on Radio and Television. Today, there are over three hundred million Janet Dailey books in print in 19 different languages, making her one of the most popular novelists in the world.
Janet Dailey passed away peacefully in her home in Branson on Saturday, December 14, 2013. She was 69.
This is Trey Calder's story. Trey falls heavily for Sloan, a photographer. They marry quickly and Sloan is introduced to Calder ranch and the multitude of Calders living there. However, there is a problem when Trey discovers Sloan is Max Rutledge's ward. The Rutledges and Calders have been enemies forever. Rutledge would like nothing better than to destroy the Calders and if he can use Sloan he will. All this comes to light as Sloan discovers she is pregnant.
Sloan and Trey must battle through distrust, innuendos and spite. Neither seems to be able to directly confront the other.
Dailey has again killed off a major character, albeit not one as well liked this time. I just do not see the purpose of this death unless it is a way of dealing with too many characters. The romance in these books is getting a little formulaic.
I keep getting suckered into reading Dailey's books. They all sound so good, but then I remember why I promised myself I would never read another one. HER WRITING IS BORING! Seriously, I have never thought someone could make a intrigue novel filled with murder, lies and romance an absolute snooze, but every one of Dailey's books manages to put me to sleep.

This sequel was not my favorite. Trey and Sloans story was a bit too mushy, but it turned interesting in the end. Some parts were poorly edited, a double shame considering .Ms Dailey is such s terrific author. Reviewed by Heide Katros, Winter Haven News, Florida
Owned print book from shore. Determination plus challenge read.
Haven't read this author in years but having read this book when I read some of the series years ago I want to know more so I hope to go back and read other books in the Calder Saga.
The Calder Family can’t seem to catch a break, especially after there is a new bride and a new Calder heir. But once again the family over comes the problems.
First and last book I'll read from this author. Not a romance fan but it wasn't bad enough to not finish it. Reasonably well-crafted story, mediocre writing, ridiculous characters.
Trey Calder meets and falls in love with a free-lance photographer, Sloan Davis. Sloan, orphaned as a child, had a grown up under the guardianship of Max Rutledge, a Calder nemesis. She is already heavy with child before the family discovers who her Uncle Max is. They all believe she was either in on the decpetion, or should have known about it.
She did not believe her Uncle Max was capable of the sinister things Trey claimed. She knew he had lost his son, Boone, but had never questioned who or why. Finding out it was a fellow Calder, she questions her uncle but believes his tale of just wanting her happy.
Finding out Trey and Sloan are having a son, Max decides to replace his lost son with theirs and procedes to sabotage the marriage. Sloan believes Trey to be cheating on her, when it is all made up by Max. In the end, their love wins, but would trust really survive?
At first I really had a problem with Tyler.......he falls in love quickly but yet is jealous of her career as a photographer. He gets annoyed that she spends time doing what she loves. They both fall in love with each other and as time goes by things change. The characters are young but they are faced with alot of obstacles. Ended up liking the book and the characters.
This was a very enjoyable book full of mystery, romance, intrigue and family dynamics. The romance between Trey and Sloan was a fast and furious one that makes people envious. But, there were some troubles between the 2 that made Sloan question whether she belonged or not. Uncle Max was a very unlikable man!
Very straightforward. Book divided into 3 parts. Part 3 was, by far, the most interesting. The book has some mystery and suspense, but is focused mainly on the relationship between Trey and Sloan (a light romance). More suited to the female audience.
