How long is a second? Can you count a minute? What is a decade? How many years are in a century?Me Counting Time can show you! From a second to a minute to an hour to a day and all the way to a millennium this playful introduction to time helps children understand the many measurements of time and how they’re used in everyday life. Easy to read and easy to understand, Me Counting Time makes learning a fun time for every child.
I think all of these ME series books are amazing. It starts off with small concepts of time and builds into longer time periods. So well done for small children!
A useful book for learning the context of time, but the cover is misleading: this is not a book that teaches how to tell time on an analog clock. 4.5 stars
My daughter and I have really enjoyed two other books by this author (Me on the Map and Me and my Amazing Body), but we did not enjoy this one. Unlike the other books, I felt like time wasn’t explained in the simplest or most logical manner. It may be that my daughter’s age (3) influenced our perception of the book and perhaps this would be more enjoyable for an older child.
Good for: -a good introduction of time -defines words: time, seconds, minutes, hour, day -talks about time as a measurement
Activity idea: Use sentence strips and have student draw what happened 1 minute ago, hour, day, week, month, year..... On the front and write sentences About it on another sheet
As a teacher of mathematics,I could easily integrate this lovable children's book into a lesson about time. I could have my students complete the above activity after reading the book together as a whole class.
I chose this book because it was very informational about time, days, weeks, the different months, and a bunch of different things that children would need to know. I would definitely recommend this book to children who are in need of learning this type of information. Even though it was a children’s book, I was still interested on how they would explain the different things and I am sure students will be too.
mom likes that the book attempts to explain seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, and millenia, but she thinks it's still a little too abstract for a 5 year old.
"Me Counting Time: From Seconds to Centuries" by Joan Sweeney This book is about a young girl that is turning 7 years old. She explains the different measurements of time, like how you get from one to the next. She uses many examples to demonstrate the amount of time each one is. I chose this book, because it is a good book to do a lesson with. It is very good with describing the measurements of time. With every measurement, she uses pictures to describe them. Like for one hour, she gave the example of baking a cake in this time. For a second, she said it was how long it took to blink. I would highly recommend this book for any teachers getting ready to do a lesson with time measurements.
