Learning the art of seduction has never been so much fun.

Lane Davis has never had time for love. Hard work, dedication and focus got her through uni and now she's a successful economist with qualifications in all areas - except the bedroom.

When a colleague airs those bedroom sheets in public, Lane decides it's time to upskill. She's always studied her way to success, so why not hire a teacher to help her out now? It's just a business deal - three months of private tutoring, no strings attached. Easy - or it would be, if the lessons didn't make her weak at the knees . . .

Her proposed teacher, Adam Quinn, has his own agenda. His sister - one of Lane's best friends - wants him to scare Lane into giving up her crazy scheme. But once he meets Lane, he can't quite bring himself to reject her.

If Adam's going to teach Lane just one thing, it's that love can get in the way of even the best intentions . . .

This is a fun romance that won’t stretch your brain cells too much, and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing because sometimes that’s exactly what you need in a book, a little bit of light escapism.

The contract, as mentioned in the title, is for the hero to teach our heroine how to be good in bed. Therefore, to be honest, the whole book is basically one sex scene after another. All the sex scenes are well written, consensual, and sometimes humorous, so again, I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing!

I didn’t notice the book was marketed towards young adults until after I finished it and I must say I don’t think it fits into that genre*. I suppose I was reading Mills & Boons under the covers probably from the age of 14 or so but Obviously I’m an old prude now and would recommend for someone at least 18.

It might explain the new cover which I thought seemed to be too ‘young for the actual book when I saw it.

I wonder if the writer actually altered the characters ages after her initial draft to fit in with the publisher’s desire to make it young adult, because most of the time I was thinking the whole plot would have worked much better if the leads were at least in their 30s.

I love the Australian setting and the fact that we have that setting without a farm for once. Given that, the American spelling on my version was a little distracting at times, but I will assume my copy is what will be published there.

Really there were no major flaws in the book though, and these are all minor gripes. It was a quick fun read and I’ll definitely be reading more of Ms Tremayne’s books.

4 out of 5

* Call me stupid, but I've just found out the difference between young adult and new adult. Yes, I'm dumb and too old to fall into either category. So, I assume advertisers might be aiming this book towards the new adult market and it would suit.

The Contract

The story was hilarious, I laughed all through it. I enjoyed it immensely.

Lane Davis has never had time for a serious romance before and the one time she managed to make time it did not turn out well. It was very bad as the male in question told everyone how bad it really was. I mean come on, seriously, it takes two. That guy really needed a smack upside his head. Now Lane has her eye on someone new but her confidence really needs some work. She comes up with what she thinks is a brilliant plan. She plans to buy some one to be her sex/relationship instructor.
A brother of her best friend is picked to be her sex guru. He is supposed to scare her off this idea, but one meeting with her and his interest is piqued. Then it gets funny, she is expecting instant sex lessons and he is taking his time. He wants her aching and begging. They sign a contract specifying how often and where these encounters will take place. He breaks all the rules. She is very innocent and the author did a great job of letting her come out of her shell. She has lots of self esteem issues and it is nice to see that Adam treats her like a real woman.
I thought this story was one of the best I had read in a long time. It had the perfect amount of story and sex. Her friends added a great deal to the story line. I thought the sex scenes and the sexual build up and frustration was well done. I would rate this story a 5/5 and would definitely read more by this author.

In The Contract by Avril Tremayne, Lane Davis hires an expert to give her private lessons on how to impress in bed after her first sexual encounter convinces her that she needs help in the bedroom department.
TConLane’s best friend is not convinced by her crazy scheme and wants her to drop it. She takes the help of her brother, Adam to play the role of an “expert and be awful enough to convince Lane to give up on her crazy scheme. But once Adam meets Lane, he is not ready to reject her so early. The thought of another man taking advantage of that makes him a little bit crazy.
As for Lane, she makes the uncomfortable discovery that her carefully composed contract doesn’t cover everything. Her goal was to seduce a banking executive, but it turns out that she kind of has a thing for Adam. Maybe it’s time to renegotiate
The Contract is a steamy adult contemporary romance with an amazing chemisrty between the main characters. Chemistry and steamy scenes are the main reasons I enjoyed the story so much. Both Lane and Adam are attracted towards each other and after a while their feelings turn out to much deeper than they originally thought.

This is a fun and sexy romance story of Lane a 23 year old redhead who is unlucky in love and inexperienced in the bedroom and seeks the services of a man to teach her the art of seduction. Lane signs up her best friend's brother Adam to be her teacher. Then the fun begins!

This story starts similar to Fifty Shades Of Grey in regards to signing a contract for sex, but that's where the similarities end between these 2 books. This book was really entertaining, funny and well written.

Lane and Adam fall for each other but neither will admit it. I loved the fast paced sexy goings on in the book, but towards the end I was wondering how much longer I could stand them being in love and not admitting it. I'm glad it was quite a short book as the story didn't evolve much from the two characters and the contract.

This book also contains the best line I have ever read in a book ..... "She'd embarrassed herself enough for one night, oozing at him like an overripe Camembert cheese". Being a cheese lover I found this absolutely hilarious!

I recommend this book to chick lit fans that like their romance with some hot and steamy loving thrown in and for men who'd like to learn a thing or two about seducing a woman!

What do you do when you need, uh, instruction in the art of love and you've got no time and no options? Hire the services of a professional?!?

This is Lane's story, unlucky in love and inexperienced in the bedroom, doing the most logical thing she can think of. Hire Adam (her best friend's brother) who has been touted as, ahem, a good teacher.

A brief and short nod to the sex contract premise from Fifty Shades Of Grey notwithstanding, this gives you an entertaining, funny and well written romp (pun intended) through a "the way to hell is paved with good intentions" scenario of the emotions that cloud that very logical contract.

Lane and Adam fall for each other but neither will cop to it. There's a lot of steamy encounters that reinforce the passion and highlight the falling...though very little in terms of character development...there is certainly relationship development.

Spine-tingly read (in a good way) and definite page turner.

Lane hasn't been able to have a serious relationship, her last sexual encounter didn't go well or end well, the man she was involved with told everyone how bad the sex had been, this dented Lane's confidence, so now she has her eye on someone she thinks she needs help in the bedroom department, so she comes up with a master plan to hire someone to help her.

This is where we meet Adam, Adam is the brother of Lane's best friend, he was supposed to put Lane off the idea but finds himself drawn to her and to the idea of helping her. So they draw up a contract detailing the Where and When's.
Will it be as simple as Lane thinks it will be?
Will they both stick to the contract?
And will feelings from both sides come out to play?

I enjoyed this book it was a nice simple read, only one small detail niggled me and that was loss of communication between Lane and Adam but that was made up by the bucket load of chemistry the pair shared.
I would definitely read more by the author.

What can I say? I liked Adam and Lane's chemistry a lot. Good chemistry can make or break a book.

What I didn't like:
Each one's ignorance of the other's feelings was frustrating to the end. And there was an icky, thin line between their agreement and prostitution. (But she's paying him for LESSONS and he doesn't really NEED the money. Hmmmm.)

What I did like:
It was a very quick, easy read. I thought they were hot together. And there were some really sweet scenes. The frustrating bits didn't trip me up in my reading. So yay.

Final point:
This read way more like an adult contemporary romance than a New Adult. Yeah, they're in their 20's, but they both have established careers. If I didn't see "New Adult" on the cover, I would've never categorized it as such.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish, but often became frustrated with the characters not sharing their feelings with each other... which was exactly the reaction the writer wanted to evoke. I was engaged in the story. I loved the strong hero qualities of Adam, and his sensitive side., and the fact that this started off being a desire to stop Laine from continuing down the path of hiring a man to teach her in the ways of lovemaking. Then when there was no turning back, something changed, and he was protective of her before he fell for the naive and emotionally fragile young woman. A lovely story, with relatable characters who were not too over the top "wealthy" or over the top "gorgeous". ... although I did think Adam was both gorgeous and delicious.

* I was given a free copy from Netgalley. All comments are my own.

This was actually a pretty nice read. The story centres around Lane, who is trying to get rid of her reputation of being cold in bed. Being a perfectionist and control freak, she draws up a contract and "hires" Adam, a brother of one of her close friends, to teach her the ropes. Her aim? To be able to snag a guy she's been eyeing at her office.

Adam is well-known for being a "no strings attached" type of guy. Perfect for the mission right? Wrong? Especially not when they both realise that sex does lead to feelings, especially when you spend a few months together.

A fun read and pretty funny in certain parts too!

I really enjoyed this story it had me laughing when Lane decides after a bad experience with her first sexual encounter that she needs a teacher to teach her how to, after she decides that she would like to get involved with a guy from work her friend Sarah helps her with the perfect male Sarah's brother Adam who Sarah is convinced that he will not go through with the teaching and also that he is has a commitment phobia and he can be trusted but of course neither plan for what happens in their teacher student journey that will have you turning the pages and smiling and grabbing for the tissues it is a very sensual story and my recommendation read this one don't miss it.

Fun book about a nerdy, gawky woman who has no idea about having a fling and an experienced man. Lane contracted Adam to teach her about being a sexy woman and seducing a man. He was convinced to help her because his sister is best friends with Lane. At first he found Lane to be cold and frigid. She was the opposite of his type of woman, tall, lanky and clumsy. However, the insecurity that comes through her dealings with him start to interest him, and make him strangely protective.

The book is a fun romp of misunderstandings, when she takes things literally, and treats sexual knowledge like it were science. That makes her cute and Adam can't resist. The book was entertaining and funny.

Loved this book! Lane decides that in order to win the attention of a man in her office, she needs to learn how to be a good lover. So, she pragmatically decides to hire her friend's brother to teach her how to seduce a man. Adam is resistant to signing the contract, but when he sees her determination to take this course of action, he signs on the dotted line thinking he will be protecting her from another man who would take advantage of her. Of course, he can't hold back from temptation for too long. Overall, I recommend this good read!

Took me just a few hours to read this book, I was so addicted. The heroine is very relatable and I could not help but fall in love with Adam instantly. If you like the alpha male falls in love unexpectedly scenario and love steamy intense scenes, then this book is for you. A must read.

An Australian romance story without a farmer - or woman in a hat - in sight! Well, I am not sure "romance" is quite the right word. Maybe "rom-com" would be a better description for this story - there is plenty of laughs in this book to keep the tone light and easy-going.

What I really did enjoy was the set-up. Lane gets the idea in her head that she needs to learn about intimacy and seduction and goes about finding a teacher. She does this willingly and of her own free will - could have been creepy if she had been talked into it, or made to do it - so I have no issue with that. The humour was appreciated as was the realistic dialogue. I felt "Australian" written all over that. Also, I liked Lane - although she started off a little awkward, she did develop somewhat throughout the story.

What I didn't like too much was that this was basically a book that was a running sex scene. While some people appreciate that stuff, I thought it was probably a little overdone. Made Lane look like she needed to have sex to have some value as a person. Also, the romance between Lane and Adam just took too long. The book is less that 200 pages and their "will they, won't they" storyline just dragged for me. We all knew what was going to happen - could have done something a little different to keep the story fresh.

Overall, though, a fun romp that will sit well in any library of romantic comedy novels.

This is well-written book in that it flows well, the dialogue is believable, and the characters sympathetic. It fell down for me with how focused the book was on the main character learning to be attractive to men, with limited focus on on her innate worth. That's completely my failing given it is apparent from the blurb what the book's focus is. However, given this author writes well, I had hoped she might include some thematic development.

I was really looking forward to reading this thought ah a feel good romance I will enjoy but I was disappointed. I didn't click with the main characters and felt the last 50% was them pining for each other but not saying so and constantly getting their wires crossed.
will probably remember this but not for the right reasons
