In the horror show of Gods and Monsters, Eden Ryel was the star. Conceived of her mother, a Merovingian--a direct descendant of Christ--and her father, the half-human son of a fallen angel, her very existence had prompted The Great War. Prophesied to be the Keeper of the Balance, Eden struggles to realize her purpose.
Levi, the overconfident and charming half-human son of Lucifer takes nothing seriously. Not even when he finally meets the young woman who is destined to end his existence. A common bond is formed under the pressures they face from both sides, but their respective religious texts predict opposite outcomes. Either way, they must choose: war, death, or love.

2.5 stars actually. I guess I'm the only one confused with this novella... I reached the end and thought my eBook missed some pages but no,that was it...
What was that??? What was that thing with Cynthia(Nina's mom)??? Or what was the thing with the previous life and having aa second chance now??? A chance to do what exactly??? And sorry but I didn't feel the love between Eden and Levi... I couldn't understand their past so I couldn't feel their attraction in the present... And I'm the only one who's wondering who Allison is??? Bex's love interest apparently but what was the point of mentioning her by name only??? And don't let me start about the end??? Is was that the end??? Ugh...!
I'm sorry, but I have to very strongly disagree with all the rave reviews. This felt hastily written, and crammed way too much into way too few pages. There was no room for plot development, let alone character development. I understand the message about balance and choice, but the delivery was way off. Everything was way too jumbled - who is Allison? Why even put that bit in there at all with no explanations or details? It served no purpose at all to the story. Neither did dropping the random bit about Cynthia's lineage. It raised a million questions from barely a mention or two, and neither served nor answered anything. It served no purpose. I felt that way about a lot of the things that happened in this novella.
the relationship between Levi and Eden had no development and barely enough explanation to understand it. I felt no connection to them or their story at all. If you are going to pack that much punch into a cliffhanger, you need to properly develop the material for the punch to be effective. And on top of all that, I'm supremely disappointed and even angry that you would do that to our beloved Jared and Eden. Seriously.
There is a HUGE lack of continuity here also - how is it that they could kill hundreds of shells, with gunfire and even grenades, in the last book of the trilogy, to get to the Sepulchre with no consequences....yet somehow Jared shooting someone who is being shelled by Satan himself and is actively beating the hell out of his family members, would "upset the balance"???
The whole thing seemed sloppy to me. The material was deserving of an entire book on its own to expand and explain everything. Making it a novella really hurt the story.
I really hate to say this, because the Providence trilogy is one of my favorites and I have read it several times over the years.....but this was so not worth the $3 I spent on it, or the two hours I spent reading it. Very disappointing.
This isn't so much a spin off - more like book 4 in the Providence series. I had to go back to refresh on the main characters (Bex, Claire, Jared etc). I didn't get into Eden's plight. It was too rushed and I didn't get to identify with her or get deep enough into her character to care about why she is the great balancing force or her purpose between good and evil.
I love Jamie McGuire but I struggled with this one. It felt lacking to me. Even the love story didn't have enough depth to make me believe in it.
I first read the Providence series a couple of years ago and fell in love with the Ryle's and their story. I couldn't put it down! From the moment I finished Eden I wanted more! When I heard that Jamie McGuire was writing Sins of the Innocent I was like a little girl waiting for Santa to come.
Sins of the Innocent is the story of Nina and Jared Ryle's daughter Eden and the son of Lucifer, Levi.
Eden is the balance of good and evil and every move she makes she considers this. No demon can touch her but boy do they want to. She has trained her whole life for an ultimate fight that they were never sure was going to come or not.
Levi, is the son of Lucifer and it had been proficiency that Eden would destroy him or he would destroy her. But Levi left everything he knows for Eden. Because he fell in love with her.
Eden was once an arch who fell in love with the son of satan and he fell in love with her. Because of that Eden was punished and was put to death. But God decided to give her a second chance and send her back to earth in human form, the daughter of a half angel and a human. But she was stronger then them all.
In the end Eden sacrificed herself to satan to save a friend and in order to keep the balance.
Eli, the angel of destiny, promises Levi that he shall she her again. Hopefully Jamie will give us more to this story so we know what happens when they do.
Oh PLEASE give us more Jamie.

wow! The providence series is my favorite series I've read.. SOTI wrapped it up beautifully. Eden is spunky like Nina, it's hard picturing little Bex all grown up and almost 30. The book is everything I coukd have imagined,
only thing I would like to know is who's Allison? I know Bex cared/cares, I wish that story could have had a page or three.
As all books by Jamie McGuire thisvleft me needing/wanting more..
This is a Providence novella, you need to read the trilogy first. This time we have the story of Levi and Eden. We have Eden as a POV narrator. Eden is Jared and Nina's daughter. They are the protagonists of the main trilogy.
Good things: * Eden is much more likable than her mother. Wow, she was a great protagonist. I almost wish we had a whole spin-off series with Eden as the protagonist. She's an angel and we discover she is the angel responsible for Balance. * Levi, he's our hero. He's great. I love his mysterious, bad-boy persona. He's a softie for Eden though. Eden is his everything. He's Leviathan, a Cambion. The son of Lucifer and a human woman. It said his mom sells life insurance in Miami. That cracked me up, so funny 😂 * I like Levi and Eden as a couple. This is only a novella so we didn't get a whole lot but what we got was worth it. There are some parallels between their story and Jared and Nina's story. Levi and Eden having met before but she didn't remember. Levi stalked Eden for a whole year before introducing himself. They go on a date to the same cafe that Jared and Nina went to. And the whole prophecy of them destined to be together or not. Oh, we also got a bit of a love triangle similar to Ryan, Nina, and Jared. This time Ryan would be Morgan. * Ryan and Claire are married! I was so happy for them. They still don't have kids though. * Bex. He is an amazing side character as always. He has a love interest that was only mentioned: Allison. I was so curious about her and why they couldn't be together. I'm sure they can make it work. * Cynthia (Nina's mom) is a Cambion. That just came out of the blue. Cambion's are the offspring of demons and humans. I always felt there was something off about her in the main trilogy but I thought it was just her personality. That explains a lot of things actually and validates the feeling I had of her hiding something. * Jared and Nina are so sweet. Nina is also more tolerable and less selfish I guess she matured. She's 39 years old so it was about time. Nina and Jared have been married for 18 years now and going strong. * Morgan (Eden's best friend). Morgan has feelings for Eden but Eden doesn't reciprocate. At least she never led him on like Nina did to Ryan, and she never ever felt anything for him and always let him know that. * At least Nina still feels bad over Kim's death. That was a low blow from Bex to remind her of waht she did but she had it coming if you ask me. Turns out Nina goes to Kim's grave every year on Eden's birthday and it's still hard for her because she knows she was the reason Kim is dead.
Not so good things: * As a Ryan stan there was an inconsistency that bothered me. Eden says this regarding Nina and Ryan: "That kind of love had stopped existing sometime after I was born." I'm sorry this contradicts the trilogy. Ryan got over Nina in the second book and was head over heels in love with Claire. Now this book says "He'd still look at her a certain way but not the same as when he looked at Claire." Tf. No! Why? He shouldn't look at her in any way and Ryan got over Nina when he went to the Army about two years before Eden was born. This is bs. * "Dad and Uncle Ryan always had a strained relationship" Jared and Ryan need to get over it tbh. Is this because Ryan still looks at her a certain way? Why is this necessary? * I don't like how the Hybrids and angels are always fighting and destroying Cynthia's house. I don't know I feel a little bad for her. She doesn't seem to mind much though. * I don't like that Morgan feels so possessive over Eden and makes her choose. He said, "me or him" (Morgan and Levi). And Eden said 'you'. Levi was not even upset 😂 he's just so chill and sure of Eden's love, although he can get a bit insecure. I don't blame him, Eden doesn't even want to call him boyfriend. That upset me a bit not going to lie. She meant Morgan as a friend btw. * Claire is still mean to Ryan. I guess that's their kind of love. I think Ryan deserves to be treated better.
A little summary of the whole book, full of spoilers: Eden has just turned 18 and is about to graduate high school with her best friend Morgan. He's in love with her but she doesn't reciprocate. She gets bullied in school and is a loner. She notices demon activity is high but her family doesn't want to tell her why. Later she meets Levi. Levi is the son of Lucifer and a human woman. A Cambion. There's a prophecy that says they are going to kill each other. Eden gets a feeling she has met him before. Despite the prophecy, she can tell Levi doesn't mean any harm. Eden graduates and spends her days training with her aunt and uncle or going out with Morgan. She got accepted into Brown University and Morgan is going to a different university.
Levi tries to get closer to Eden despite her reluctance. She starts to have feelings for Levi. He says he loves her. They go way back but she doesn't remember. Levi is willing to tell her everything so she will remember. He takes her to his place. Turns out Eden is the reincarnation of the Angel of Balance. As such she was tasked with maintaining the balance and she couldn't take any sides. Some eons ago, she fell in love with Leviathan, since Leviathan is allied with Hell. She was disturbing the balance and God punished her. She was sent to a limbo where she spent many years. Levi struck a deal to free her and give her a second chance so she was reborn as Eden. Levi now has a mortal life too, like Eden. Levi turned his back on his father and is no longer allied with Hell. So if Eden loves him it doesn't disturb the balance. Lucifer is upset his son left him so he wants to kill Eden so Levi goes back to Hell.
Lucifer possesses Morgan and is trying to force Eden into killing him to disturb the balance. Her family wants to kill Morgan but she tells them not to do it. In the end, she makes a bargain with Lucifer. He can take her if he lets Morgan go. The Archangel Eli appears and basically confirms this second chance was given to Eden so she would sacrifice herself. In the final scene, Lucifer kills her and she turns to ashes. The End... it continues in the novella titled 'Sins of the Immortal' so fear not. I feel so bad for people who had to wait seven years for the continuation!
This is he couple's profile in the author's website: it has quotes, facts and a playlist for the book.
My jaw is on the floor and there are tears running down my cheeks!! Sins of the Innocent completely blew me away and was better than I ever imagined! SOTI follows the story of Eden Ryel the daughter of Nina and Jared Ryel from the Providence series as she struggles to fulfill her destiny. Her story is filled with all kinds of twists and turns that make her journey both amazing and heartbreaking. Jamie McGuire knows how to entertain her readers and keep them on the edge of their seats. SOTI had me laughing, crying rivers, and left wanting more, but I know we will see them again. Well I hope at least. LOL FIVE STARS FOR SINS OF THE INNOCENT!!! Read it NOW!! It's AMAZING!!!
This novella left me with more questions than answers, and I HATE that. The ending would of been alright if we knew that there was more to come, but as it stands now this is it. Considering that right now there is no followup planned, the ending was terrible, and that ruined what was a decent story.
I wish some background was given on the characters, it has been a few years and hundreds of books since I read the Providence series, and a refresher would of been nice. And who the hell is Allison? She was mentioned more than a few times, and I don't know who the hell she is!
Overall my life would of been just fine if I would of never read this.
I finished this book days ago. I needed a couple days to process it before reviewing. At first, I was sad and depressed while thinking "Whoa! What just happened?!?! NOO!!!" Now that it's sunk in I feel good about it. It definitely shocked me but I understand it and the story was just right and beautiful. I truly enjoyed Eden's journey! It was great that we got to see her as a grown up and mature young lady. I also loved that we got more of Jared, Nina and all the beloved Ryels. I missed them and Providence. I hope for more Providence novellas in the future!!
Whoa. What just happened!?!? Jamie McGuire never disappoints. I absolutely loved the story of Levi and Eden. I'm going to say it's not the last we see of them. Better not be! I'll have to go all Misery, lol! Wow. I'm still speechless about this book. It's one that will have me thinking for a while! The Providence Series is one of my all-time favorites, and I can't wait for MORE! I need more! Must read Providence Series before this one, just fyi.
Seriously, Jamie McGuire NEVER disappoints me. She sure knows how to write a damn great novella just like this one. I won´t tell you much, just that you should really, really read this one when you enjoyed her Providence series. 5 big fat stars.
Wow, I hadn't ever read a Jamie McGuire paranormal before and now I'm about to raid Amazon for them all.
Sins of the Innocent is a beautiful and quick story about love. It's a very entertaining experience. I smiled, I smirked, and I cried. Tears were definitely not expected when I began this journey.
I'm also mildly annoyed, angry, and possibly spitting nails in Jamie McGuire's direction. I am feeling deprived. The ending served its purpose but I need more!!!!
I would have been happy with the ending if the story had an epilogue, but because it doesn't have one I hate the ending. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Ok, so wow! I'm not sure what I was expecting. I had ideas from the original trilogy about what was going to happen, but I wasn't quite prepared for the ending. For me at least there are still more questions to be answered and I know that there is still more of this story to be told. The book was awesome, and a really quick read. The feelings are real and raw, and as more of it unfolds and the heavy feeling in my gut grew I found myself unable to put the book down. The ending is heartbreaking, and absolutely beautiful. I also know that it's not the end. A love that has endured lifetimes, traveled through realms, been lost and found again, one that deep doesn't end that way. I look forward to more!!
I really like Jamie McGuire's writing and I have to say I enjoyed this even though I have not read the Providence series. That says a lot because this story involves a lot of mythology with demons, archangels and the such. The main character was likable and you were interested in seeing what was I store for her.
At first, I didn't exactly understand what exactly Levi's purpose be in the story apart from a love interest but I enjoyed the fact that it was further than that, beyond that.
Really liked the cliffhanger of an ending too!!
Now where's the Providence series? I have to get my hands on it!
2.5* What the hell just happened??? I'm confused.
The providence series was the first books I read by Jamie McGuire, and I loved Nina and Jared. Seeing that their daughter Eden have her own story is simply amazing. Just finished it, and I have to say I loved it. Eden and Levi are perfect for each other, but that ending though. Won't spoil anything but major cliffy. Hopefully there will be another book, crossing my fingers.
I should never have read this, this "ruined" the trilogy for me , seriuslly aweful!it was too much too soon and too fast, without a good explanation. This could have been a good sequel, a great book! But, no.
OK !!!!!! let me talk about that ending !!!!!!????? I died ... NO i felt like i was slapped on the face , I was reading , getting excited , things started to get interesting and suddenly , I saw this two words "The end." ... I don't know what to say ......
I wish I had skipped this novella. Instead of it giving me a sense of peace or an inside look at how characters developed it left me feeling let down and irritated. Skip this one, you'll be happier
