The Class 1-A students were able to choose their hero names!
I thought it was hilarious and made a LOT of sense that someone kind of ‘approved’ their name (or didn’t approve in Bakugo’s case).

After that, the students start their internships!
I wish we saw more of what the other students were doing, more than the 1-ish panels we got.

I LOVED the addition of Gran Torino! He helped Midoriya in a way that All Might couldn’t.
I just laugh that a frozen microwavable fish was the thing that helped him in figuring out his powers.

You could see it helped in his fight with...the Hero Killer! That fight had me hooked the entire time.
The speech bubbles did get a little confusing, specifically when Todoroki was talking to Ida. It was a great speech though!

I also liked that Todoroki’s story was addressed. It would’ve seemed a little weird to have had the last volume (basically) be all about him and his family drama and not have at least mentioned it in this one.
It was done in flashback format - which didn’t help my confusion in that particular section of the chapter.

Something else I really enjoyed was how much Ida had changed from the by-the-book, cliche nerdy guy we met.
Of course what happened to his brother affected him greatly and to see that was really cool. I can’t wait to see how this experience changes him!

With the way I’ve sorted out my reading list, I can’t read the next volume quite as soon as I would like but I’m definitely excited for it!

SO GOOD.
Thank god Deku’s finally found a way to use his power without hurting himself. What a quick learner he is. I’m so proud.
GRAN TORINO. Tiny, funny and badass. My hero.
I’m kinda worried about Iida. Please, man, get a grip.
TODOROKI!!!??TEAMING UP!!!??WITH!!!??MIDORIYA!!!??
(Todoroki ? I’m adopting him)
Stain. I get it, he’s a villain, but I like his motives and his quirk is cool (although disgusting. I wonder how he even discovered it. Ew.)

So I stopped reading this series for a couple of hours to watch tv and play some video games but now I'm laying in bed and ... whoops, read another volume. I have a feeling I'm gonna binge the rest of what's available tomorrow.

The high quality of each volume's story is a rare thing to come across. Especially with a shounen title.

A much needed breather after the overwhelmingly intense previous volume. The peace doesn't last long though, as yet another villain shows up and causes trouble for the students of UA High. Another strong volume that ends on a big cliffhanger, making me crave for the next book right away. Damn, this series is addictive!

It's good to be moving in a new direction. New training, BETTER training. The other way was just sooo self-destructive.

And it's also good to start working on the other character arcs, too. What does it mean to be a hero, as seen through the eyes of villains. So interesting. :)

By far one of the coolest story arcs yet. Not only do we get to see more of this newly-introduced villain, the Hero Killer, but we also learn so much about his vision on heroes. In fact, the rules he abides by are extreme, yet so interesting. His character easily became one of the coolest elements of this series and his effect will definitely be resounding for the remainder of the series.

I also love that we find out who this Gran Torino dude is and what he's capable of. The story does accelerate a lot in the training department, but the development is way too epic to criticize.

What you get in this volume is one of the coolest fights yet in this series.

Once again, another brilliant addition to the BNHA manga series.
It just continues to get better and better and I LOVE IT.

Things I learnt from this volume:
-Manga Hero Killer is a lot creepier looking than anime Hero Killer?
-Todoroki is precious and he FINALLY has some friends, I'm proud of my son.
-Midoriya is officially one of my favourite main characters of all time.
-Gran Torino is literally Yoda.
-I want to protect Ida with every fibre of my being.

Volume 7, here I come!

PLUS ULTRA!

Epic. Same goodness as always. Really cool fights going on here. I will now go back to being depressed about not having the next volume QnQ.

I'm going to talk about my thoughts on specific things since everything about the story has already been said in my past reviews.

I remember that in the fourth volume (or whichever volume it was where we started learning more about Todoroki) I didn't really like him that much. But then in the last volume he wasn't bad at all so I had an acceptance of him, I guess. My feelings towards him moved more towards "like" than "dislike". Then in this volume... I felt very conflicted (and still do...) about my feelings. I don't feel like I like him super much, but then I do a little but it's complicated whatever.

Ida's costume is pretty cool, I like it a lot.

Ida's costume
(This was taken from a fan-translation, the official translation has him saying "... Because... I... Can never forgive him." Support the official release by buying the volumes!)

I've always thought that Midoriya's bunny-lookin-ass helmet is lame af, and still do. Whoever approved that design needs to be fired. I know the "ears" are supposed to be "horns" shaped to mimic All Might's hair, but they just make Midoriya look like a damn bunny. Uraraka's boots are too obnoxiously huge, and Momo's costume is too obnoxious for... Other reasons. If you look up her costume you might get why. *Edit* Momo's costume actually gets explained in Volume 8, so I ain't even mad. I originally thought Bakugo's grenade gloves were waaaay to obnoxious and I didn't like them, but seeing him fully suited up again in this volume I thought he looked pretty cool. All this bitching aside I generally like seeing the kids in their costumes.

Also, the kids chose their hero names in this volume. I have some spoilery thoughts about that.

Merry Christmas!!!! I started my Christmas off by opening presents and then reading this manga before bed, a truly wonderful present. Even though I didn't get it for Christmas. Also now it's past two in the morning. Help.

Please consider giving this review a "Like" if you've made it this far, it helps me out a lot! And follow me if you want more!

We have a nice little break after the sports festival for the kids to come up with their superhero names which was downright hilarious! I wonder what Bakugo actually landed on because “King Explosion Murder” wasn’t cutting it, lol.

And Yoda’s a superhero now, lol! Gran Torino really reminded me of him and how he helps Deku out better then All Might has so far, haha (sorry, All Might, but it’s true). Also continue to love how Deku’s always one step ahead in his planning and moves and how that talent of his always impresses people. Not to mention it was super helpful in facing the Hero Killer.

Like, yikes, this guy is insane! I was genuinely worried Deku and Ida were going to die because this guy isn’t messing around nor is he as petty minded as the previous supervillains they faced before—SOOO relieved when Todoroki showed up! Though I don’t know how just the three of them are going to beat this guy… ??

??Content??

Language: suck; gah, what the heck; hell; what the hell; freaking; darn; crap; geez; half-ass; pisses; bastard; damned; damn; dammit

Violence: injuries and blood (PG-PG-13); fighting with weapons, superpowers, and hand to hand (PG-PG-13); a character face plants in a wall; a character’s shoulder is cut/stabbed (PG-13); a guy licks blood off his blades/other people (PG-13); a man is smashed through the side of a train

Sexual: a teen guy is a pervert; a girl’s shirt opens in the front all the down to her stomach

Other: superheroes/supervillains/superpowers; a character has an extra hand on his face; monster like beings with “brains” outside their skulls; a gross monster looking guy

4.5 stars!! Such a good volume. We get the Hero Killer Stain in this one and his unique and interesting quirk. We get to see Ida at his lowest and I love how he was drawn! This volume also is the start of the work studies. Which also means it was hero name picking time! Some of them are great, others not so much. Seeing Deku meet Gran Torino was fantastic. Having Deku learn about how to use his power by frozen fish was perfect.
Also was interesting realizing that this was when the anime was first starting to get announced.

More absolutely incredible character work in this volume, specifically with Ida and the introductions of Stain and Gran Torino. Horikoshi does a great job at writing all of these characters and I don’t know how he’s able to keep the quality consistently good with them!

3.5! One of the most superhero arcs so far.

World: The art is getting really good, the fights look great, there is a bit of overly scratchy at times but it's pretty great. The world building here is solid. After the stuff with the tournament it's good to get back to a larger scope and to flesh out the society and the world as a whole and this internship part of the world is nice. The addition of further some pieces of the world with character origins is also great.

Story: This arc is really superhero comic booky and it's great. There is the training which is pure manga but also the moral idea of revenge and how it drives people over the edge which is pure comic book. I love how the story is tied together with character development and Iida and Todokori are both a part of it. The action is great, the pacing is fast and furious and the emotions really well done.

Characters: Iida is center stage here, he gets a lot of time and a lot of story from what happened last arc with his brother. It's a nice little cliched take on moral compass and revenge and the meaning of being a hero. It's really comic booky and that's great. The further development of Todoroki is also good, it's not a lot but I'm starting to really enjoy this character. Then there's Deku and his continued training and his evolution as a character, it's going to the archetypical timeline but it's still good. A good villain is one with a fun power and also a conviction that sound somewhat messed up but also reasonable and Stain is exactly that, he's solid.

Solid arc!

Onward to the next book!

Another excellent volume!

The artwork in this one was brilliant, especially for the new characters introduced. Stain is a brilliant villain with a great but twisted idea of what a hero should be and how to deal with all of the “imposters”. Stain has an excellent quirk too which perfectly fits him and his agenda. I only hope we get to find out his backstory!

I really enjoyed Gran Torino coming into the picture to oversee training for Midoriya. I think he is harsh enough to get results from Deku. Speaking of our MC, Midoriya did exceptionally well in this volume utilising 5% of his power to achieve certain goals.

I liked Ida’s passion displayed to avenge his brother too and hope that he can make good on that passion by becoming a pro hero. I like his determination and his quirk is a classic power.

I really want more League if Villains and enjoyed what happened in this volume. I’m hopeful we’ll be seeing more of the Nomu as the volumes progress.

It’s just a shame we saw next to nothing of the other heroes but then I guess this was specifically focused on Stain and Ida’s promise.

8/10 stars

Slow beginning but exciting ending. I like the way Horikoshi shows heroes and villains divided only by a thin line of moral values. In the old Roman tradition of "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes" ("who watches the watchmen") we can once more appreciate how, in the face of tragedy, easy it is to forget your values and to turn into the very thing you despise. Stain is a compelling villain, much more so than the childish Handyman from the previous arc.

Todoroki's growth is remarkable; his relationship with Deku reminds me of the friendship between Gaara and Naruto. I also like the addition of Gran Torino, the Yoda-like ancient sage whose appearance belies his skill. Good to see Deku developing his skills in a less self-destructive way. All in all, pretty cool!

Fuck yeah! I love Stain. Although, he totally looks like a corrupted teenage mutant ninja turtle. I still love his design lol. God, Todoroki is so badass too. What a good battle. Ida kind of annoys me, but like I get his thinking. I think this arc made him a more interesting character for sure. I also totally forgot what a big old child Shigaraki is.

Honestly I really like Stain. He's super interesting and his character design is pretty cool.

Now the UA students have mentors and it was fun to see which agencies certain characters picked. Excited that the league of villains are back and now working with the stain? Shoto continues to be my favourite character, but Dekus mentor may come to claim that soon. Fun, fast paced, action packed and great series, with unique and 4th wall breaking chapter pages. Looking forward to carry on to volume 7 soon.

With the sports festival done, the students of Class 1-A starts their next assignment: their internships with superheroes. Midoriya is surprised that he’s interning for Gran Torino, the one time mentor for All Might. Meanwhile, a new villain plans to unleash his powers that bring a lot of action and fright. - I have a feeling that every volume from here on out is going to be a 5 Star. The amount of character development that we've had over the last few volumes has been excellent. Seeing Midoriya finally figure out his quirk was great. It's also been nice seeing everyone's backgrounds.
