Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she's seen it all - and knows that her survival depends on her instincts. And she's going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and suspect in Eve's murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it's up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.
Glory in Death
The first victim was found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second was murdered in her own apartment building. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas had no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provided Eve with a long list of suspects -including her own lover, Roarke.
Immortal in Death
She was one of the most sought after women in the world. A top model who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted - even another woman's man. And now she was dead, the victim of a brutal murder. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas put her professional life on the line to take the case when suspicion fell on her best friend, the other woman in the fatal love triangle.
J.D. Robb is the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series and the pseudonym for #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts. The futuristic suspense series stars Eve Dallas, a New York City police lieutenant with a dark past. Initially conceived as a trilogy, readers clamored for more of Eve and the mysterious Roarke. Forgotten in Death (St. Martin's Press, September 2021) is the 53rd entry in the series.
I can't help it. I could read Robb's In Death series over and over. It's romantic, it's sci-fi, it's got mystery and action, and it's funny with great characters.
I adore how Roarke counters Eve in his caring, his loving, and his coping(!). His humorous approach to Eve's hard edges makes me laugh while Eve cracks me up with her terror of the feminine and the unknown realm of relationships. It balances her dogged pursuit of the bad guy.
The quirks and foibles of the people she works with make them so human and easy with whom to relate. I love the cool gadgets available in the future although I'm not too sure about the fashions...it's rather fascinating to try and imagine actual people looking like this...
This series is brilliant.the characters enchant you and the setting, a little futuristic to entice you but not going over the edge. The books are easy to read, meant in a positive way.You can't put them down and look forward to the next one. They have something for everyone, romance, intrique, murder and humour. Well placed on my favourites shelf.
I’ve read this before but am trying the audiobook this time. The narrator Susan Erickson has done a fantastic job bringing these characters to life. I will be following her for now on.
J. D. Robb is Nora Roberts' pseudonym, and this series is now many novels long. She writes one to two a year for this series alone, as well as more under her author name, Nora Roberts. I love this series and collect them all as they are published. I've read them all several times and enjoy them every time, though the first is the best! If you enjoy futuristic novels with strong leading women, where the plot is twisted and never lets you relax for long, then Eve Dallas and company are a good choice. Lt. Eve Dallas is a member of the New York Dept of Police and Security beginning in the year 2058. There is the requisite love interest (You never meet men like this in real life!), but the books are about the mysteries. I can't rate these any higher!
I have probably read ALL of Nora Robert's books & all of these under her pseudonym, JD Robb. I HEART Nora! I know it's fiction, trite and romance in some cases, but she does it very well. She makes it believable, and you care for the characters & are whisked away from your troubles for the duration of the book..who cares if the stove is on fire? ;) Great books all of hers. I don't know what the titles are of hers that I've read, just know pretty much all. My husband reads them too, and that I think is saying something, that a man will read a romance novel & he's a big big big Stephen King fan.
I love reading and re-reading anything in the In Death series! While I haven't gotten around to reading the most recent releases (the past six or so) I have them (or my mom has them...) and I hope to read them soon! These books are definitely worth a read if you like mystery with a bit of romance. I am not a big fan of romance but the fact that it isn't a main plot point of this series, no matter what other things Nora Roberts writes, makes these books a joy to read.
I am so adicted to the In-Death series from J.D. Robb/aka Nora Roberts - I'm on book 16... Great fantasy, mystery, crime, romance, excitement and adventure all rolled into a series with characters who pop off the page.
Like all ways her books keep me going I cant stop reading then when I start I have to read all true the night I cant put it down until I finish it I love all of her books . great stories I have read 22 of her books as JD Robb and as many of Nora Roberts I love all keep then coming .
The first 3 books have similarities, Eve was chasing and pushing the wrong suspects until the real killers tried to kill her in the end. She almost died each time.
I do, however, like the love story and development of it. Story about Roark as a billionaire (this was published in 1995) was more fitting - read latter books you will realize that in real sense he became a cop, spending most of his time doing grunt work for Eve's investigation. At least in the first 4 books he was doing what a business owner of all things in the whole universe is supposed to do, yet missing some senior management teams running the business with him. The part that Roark was gorgeous and excel at doing all things is too good to be truth.
To me, the sense of humor in In Death series is the most intriguing part.
Still one of my very favorite in this series! I NEVER tire of reading and/or rereading this series! It s the characters, their natural development and reasonable, believable realism, even though the setting is futuristic (2058). As a hopeful romantic, you can FEEL the love in the relationship of the main characters and when they are intimate, they "make love" with ALL the tingles, moans and extras that hopefully accompany that type of solid, thoughtful, caring, relationship! May we ALL be so blessed to find our own "Make Lover (not just Sexual Releaser [although that s not a necessarily bad thing if that s all you have!] HAHA
It was a good plot but I like to learn stuff that I read like more in depth of police procedurals and crime scenes descriptions and new technologies, interesting background l, otherwise, I move on. In this book I was listening to while doing garden work and didn’t have a good backup book to listen to.
Actually, this is a re-read of the first 3 "In Death" series books. I absolutely adore the narrator Susan Ericksen. I wanted to go back to the beginning of Dallas and Rourke's meeting. All of the J. D. Robb books are great but if you ever get a chance to listen to the audio version? So good!
This is a great introduction to the characters of Eve and Rourke. They are such complicated people with backgrounds that have impacted their personalities. How they work together to solve murders is an enjoyable read.
Darker then I thought it would be as Eve Dallas works on solving a crime. Overall the story was well told and told well. I had a tough time with some of the subject matter.
I completely am in love with this series! My only regret is that I can't find them all at my Libraries that I have access to! Specifically I'm looking for them in Audio books as I'm in my car a lot of the time in the day. I have one in my car, and I have a different one I listen to in my bedroom!
This series is the type of romantic suspense I enjoy reading.
Eve unwittingly catches the attention and help from an unlikely source, Roark, a confidence man who’s consistently two steps ahead of her. Despite her objections, he’s right behind her, guarding her back and breaking her fall.
Both admit they don’t trust each other, but the conundrum makes room for bedfellows.
To read an "in Death"... is to love the characters. Its best to start from the begining and grow with them. You actually start to think of them as friends. Roberts is by far the best writer of this century. Keep them coming.
Great start to an incredible series! These books grip you from the start. Very intriguing characters that can't help but root for. The chemistry between Roarke and Eve is hilarious, passionate, and forever bonding. Love these books.
Roberts never fails to give her reader's a character to enjoy, love and appreciate. a good read, entertaining, touching with a bit of humor to balance the dark theme of murder. another piece you won't put down till you've read the last page.
In Death series is the most excited and best crime novels I have read. Love Eve Dallas and her mysterious husband Roark. Part mystery, part sci-fi, part romance - these books have it all! one of my guilty pleasures!
I've read Naked and Glory so far and they're good. Easy reading-you can finish one in a day or two. Pretty good mystery too. I haven't figured out either one until the end.
